What pedal is difficult to use? There are the usual three knobs, and the pedal comes with a manual that tells you how to set them.

I think this is the closer to the coveted tubescreamer than the re-issue (it has the right chip in it). It is very transparent, and the overdrive is very smooth. There is no true bypass, but there is also no loss I can hear to the signal quality when the pedal is off. Everyone uses this pedal for a reason; if you have a tube amp (say a fender) and you want a tube-like overdrive (not distortion or fuzz), then this is the pedal to get.

I've had this pedal for a while, and it has always been reliable. (I've also had some pricey US boutique pedals that have since died.)

There are two japanese analog overdrive pedals that I like. This one and the Boss Blues Driver. This one is better, but the Boss is much cheaper. I tried the re-issue tube screamer, but I didn't like it. If you want that sound, you don't have to pay $300 for the real thing (IMO); you can buy two of these for the same money, and you'll get the sound you are looking for.
