Not a bad sound to be found, even when you crank the treble to ear blistering levels it's just as sweet, the eq is great!

I had to find out if all the other reviews were over the top, they're not! After hearing my brother's Vox AC-30 and saying WOW this is the sound I want, I decided to check out the Menatone pedal. Sure glad I did. I've cut a few tracks with it now. The most impresive thing about the pedal besides the great sound is the fact that it DOES NOY sound like a pedal. It sounds like an amp cranked up. It's so convincing that I had to keep taking my headphones off to make sure my amp was not too loud for the neighbors! No kidding. Never heard anything else like it. I use to have a tube box inserted into my FX loop to warm/fatten up the sound...don't need it anymore.
I own and have checked out a ton of overdrives, this one blows them all away (fulltone, Voodo labs, Ibanez etc...).
It is not noisy at all! Quietest gain I've ever heard.

I never heard of anyone having any kind of problem.
In fact when I went to check out pedals at Guitar Center, the salesman said if you want some really great pedals, call this guy,
and gave me Brian's number.

I play rock mostly.
Works great for what I do.
I would replace it immediately.
I am a big Meantone fan. The way these pedals are put together is waht makes a big difference. Point to point wiring, custom transistors etc... there's nothing else in the ballpark with these babies. I can't wait to try out some more menatones!
Brian Mena puts his heart into his pedals and you can hear it.

this is a very cool pedal that does what it says. i have a 68 fender twin reverb and i use this pedal to get that vox growl. when compared to my ts-9/808 with mid hump, the menatone really sings. it's like an awake ts with presence. and the treble cuts nice without being annoying. the only thing i didn't care for was that the volume is on 1 and it's still lowd, but this is great for people that wanna use it as a boost pedal.

gain treble bass volume, this is a huge upgrade over the red snapper which is a great pedal, but rather limited on eq, i had a few other pedals but this one is hands down the best of all i have tried. want to sound like brian may? this is the pedal, but there are many variations of that sound, this pedal has the biggest volume boost of any one i have tried. dime the bass and treble and gain and this is the fattest thing around. i have not tried the howie or the others, but this one doesnt sound exactly like a marshall, you would just have to take a listen. the other reviewers are right, i just cant see using any other pedal. it is a gem. worth the price in the long run

the way i am using this is very very easy, after some initial fumbling with it, i just barley turned on my amp, a 100 watt harry joyce head through 2 harry joyce 100 watt speakers. set the gain all the way up, treble all the way up, bass all the way up, and volume on the pedal just barely on. so you have a very high gain sound coming out of very big speakers. perfect for practise, not tinny, surprisingly full, and you can use the volume knob to back off and get a cleaner tone. now all you have to do is turn either the amp up or the pedal up and you can be heard anywhere, i mean anywhere. no tone coloring at all. i have owned 2 fulltones, some other pedals, an original vox tonebender, etc. a red snapper an others. now folks the fulldrive is a nice pedal but it has an upper midrange that, for me, just doesnt cut it. you cant dial that out. it also is limited on bass and treble, and i dont like the 2nd drive on it. you can dial anything in that you want with this pedal. fantastic versatile sounds out of this unit.

if youare wodering about this pedal, and are looking for something that wont color your tone, dont hesitate. i have seen some posts on this site about pedals that wont color your basic sound and there about 8 others mentioned, this one or the red snapper werent even mentioned. i am amazed at this. perhaps there are some better pedals out there.this is a rock pedal. i am sure you could tweak it for blues or other, but i think this is for a different slant. it has queen written all over it. one guy with a huge guitar sound. biggest sound i have ever heard. not just loud, the man that designed this one knew what he was doing. i am amazed at this pedal. i cant wait to hear this one recorded. a definite keeper pedal.

This is the single best overdrive unit I've ever tried, and I will never get rid of it. Mine is the first production type without the new "cut" knob. Bill Chapin uses one, as well, and he says he doesn't miss the cut knob. (for what it's worth) I don't miss anything on mine. Couldn't get easier to dial up great sounds! Many of them!

I'm using this with Teles, an Alamo Tonemonger Strat and an Ernie Ball/Music Man EVH through FX into a Carr Slant 6V 2x12. I've also used it through my Dr. Z Maz Jr. 2x10. Works like a charm. You can dial up great sounds for days. Want a chimey clean boost? How about an overdrive thick in mids? A Matchless type grind (reminiscient of crunch and lead tones heard on many new pop/rock and country albums)? How about a very transparent crunch that stays true to your tone and dynamics? Maybe a scooped crunch with plenty of chime without getting icepick-ish? The list goes on and on....it's all here.
This unit works wonderful with other pedals. I can honestly say that most people would find great and different enough sounds to warrant using 2 of these on their pedalboard. I play tons of gigs that range from country to jazz to rock to blues to some pop and top 40...this pedal covers all the bases VERY well. The knobs are EXTREMELY interactive, which is obviously the only way this pedal obtains all of those sounds. The price of admission may seem high for an overdrive pedal....it's not. The money you'll save in the long run instead of buying/selling others that don't work is tremendous. You owe it to yourself as a musician to get this great pedal...then you'll see what I'm talking about. I hate to...but I have to give this pedal a 10.

As I said before...the best OD on the planet that I know of. You need to try one of these. If you don't like it you can sell it for no loss on Ebay, I'm sure. I know you'll love it, though. I've never felt this strongly about recommending a pedal. I chose this one because of features and explanation of "the pedal's sound"...I'm glad I did. If you want detailed info. on how this unit will get certain sounds or how it works with various gear then email me. I'm glad to help if I can.

As easy to use and any other simple 4-knob pedal I've tried.
Easy to coax a good boost or a good gain sound out of it.

I play it as is and intend to keep it that way

It's truly is a great pedal. It sounded best through a fender twin. Not as good through smaller amps. So basically the pedal needs a nice size speaker and some good headroom to sound it's best. But when it does! Holy shit!
To me it sounds like a matchless when set high.....but better (played through the right amp.) I'm not lying. It really is an amazingunit and the reviewers below seem to agree. It has something very special, and I'm suprised it hasn't gotton more press. I havn't heard much about this little gem!
You must try one to understand what I'm talking about. I'll update this review in a couple months to let you in on any other secrets I might find within the belly of this simple gem stone. Pristine describes the quality of this sound.

WOW! This is the by far the best O.D/DIST. pedal I've ever heard.
I know that that's a strong claim to make, but if you like the sound of a pushed el84 Vox or matchless..this pedal is a dr4eam come true. As long as your playing through a quality tube amp...the sound is very soft-textured, but gritty and spitty, (as a reviewer before said.) It sounded great with my music man sillouette special (s.s.Humbucker) through a fender twin (non-reverb channel) The sound is soft and very three demensional without messing with the original tone at all. It's transparent, but not in a tube screamer type fashion. If you dial in the gain low, it offers a very chimey pushed sound, that I want to eat for breakfast. The pedal is so beautiful sounding that It is now the only pedal I would ever use. (P.S.- it's not for a marshall sound, or a super sustaining effect.) I think it's the greatest i've tried, and I've tried them, believe me.

Took a few minutes to get the hang of it, but it's a stompbox, so how hard could it be. The treble and bass controls are probably the most interactive I've ever seen on a pedal -- move one of them 1/8" and it affects the other in a major way. It's not a problem, but there are definite sweet spots and you have to search for them, at least with my setup.

This thing does sound very different from Mena's Blue Collar or any of the Tubescreamer type pedals. I haven't heard another OD like it. To my ears, with a Tele into an Allen Old Flame, it really captures that spitty, snarly, soft-textured, cranked Vox/Matchless tone. With the gain all the way up, I can get the corrosive sounding tone like the opening of Old 97s "Jagged," which was done on a Matchless. Nice. The other interesting thing is that it doesn't begin to distort your sound until the gain knob is at 10:00 or 11:00 -- below that, you get more of a clean Vox chimey sound. When you turn the gain all the way down, no sound comes out at all, which is a little weird, so the useful range for the gain knob is about 9:00 to all the way up (5:00). Again, the tone knobs are extremely interactive, with simply huge variations in sound. There is also a vast amount of volume boost available, especially at higher gain settings. The last thing I'll say is that this pedal sounds more like the OD sound is coming from the guitar and amp than most. To me, most OD's sound like the distortion is just slathered on the top of your tone, but this pedal (and especially the Klon) are exceptions.
