The clean channel gain setting is underneath and you have to use a screwdriver to set it. So it takes some trial and error. Has no on/off switch though it seems like it should, so you have to unplug it if you don't want it on all the time. BIGGEST PROBLEM USING THIS LIVE: The bypass switch fades the signal in and the lag is about 2 seconds! If you were bypassing the v-twin to get a clean and then expected to stomp it in for overdrive or serious distortion you would be let down by the lack of speed. However, turning the bypass ON is instantaneous, as is switching the channels once the thing is already running. I gave up on using it as a stomp pedal and ended up just using it to go direct and never stomped on it at all, just set it and forget it.

Sound Quality : 9
The point of this thing is to go direct, everything else is BS. It sounds great direct! The bass is NICE. The eq is subtle but usable, and between the clean and the blues channels you can get most classic rock sounds. The solo channel is nice and smooshy. It's not noisey at all!

Reliability : 8
Has been left on quite a bit. Still works fine, stomps are very high quality. Only one cheap button, and that's the clean/blues selector pushbutton on the top, and it still works alright as well(it should be a 3rd stomp switch but it isn't). The PSU has a nice long cord but the cord did start pulling out of the strain relief on the transformer so I had to glue it in there. It stays there now.

Basically a great way to get a decent recorded guitar sound without a microphone or amp. Recording direct is a joy if it sounds ok. Recently started using it as my practice amp (with headphones)! I run it to a mackie board and throw a couple sub 100ms delays on it panned around (same for the vocals). Instant palatable headphone practice sound! Without the delay it is as boring as vacuuming. I used the clean sound mixed in with my mic'd amp on the song "the battle" on this myspace:

It will probably be used for a lot of stuff on our upcoming album. Just don't try and use it live!

Not very hard to figure this pedal out. One thing I hate is that it has 3 channels but only two footswitches. if you want to switch between clean and blues you have to hit the little black button in the middle. I don't understand why they did that.

Sound Quality : 7
I am playing an esp miii w 2 Hotrails/ esp ltd viper w EMGS/ and a gibson standard sg silverburst (w seymour sh-5 custom) into the v-twin and an Orange 30R crush amp (solid state). I actually think the clean sounds great, way better than the orange crush by itself. I bought this pedal because the distortion on the orange sounded horrible. The distortion on this is not as loud as I expected. Individual notes still sound clean on the highest settings. This is not a metal pedal in my opinion. I listen to bands like Melvins and Pig Destroyer. You can't get anywhere near crushing tone with this pedal. Overall I think the distortion sounds good for what it is, better than any solid state distortion, but not the sound for me.

Reliability : 10
It is like a small tank. I don't think it will break. The light indicators did though. Also, the plug falls out very easily. You will have to tape it there.

I've only been playing about 2 years, and I've had this pedal most of that time. I'm glad I got it, because it inspired me to play as long as I have. If I had to go on the solid state distortion all this time, I would have quit. That being said, if it were stolen I would buy a different pedal. This one just doesn't cut the mustard for me. It's not heavy enough.

I had a hard time trying to get good sounds out of it .. very bassy and mushy ! ... I'm not sure the tone controls even worked on the pedal !!

Sound Quality : 2
I didnt like the choice of channel options nor did i like the fact all 3 channels share the same EQ !! The clean is clean and nothing but .. the blue channel is nice for blues to rock but the red channel is just high gain bassy mush !

Reliability : 3
built solid but always worried about the tubes

I don't usually take the time to give reviews on gear but, I feel I should on this V Twin pedal since it has been one of the few pieces of equipment that has never let me down. Very simple to use in front of an amplifer. Has Red channel and a Blue Channel( The blue can be switched to green for just a clean sound) and a by Pass . All foot switchable. Though it is made to use either in front of an amplifier or direct into a mixer or head phones. I have no use for it except in front of an amp. as that is where it does it's thing the best.

Sound Quality : 9
This pedal gives you very usable meat and potatoes overdrive/ditortion sounds.I very seldom use anything but the red channel on it. Big thick overdrive that is pretty darn controllable. I can get Billy Gibbons, Eric Clapton , Santana, Gary Moore tones out of it and even a little David Gilmore with some Delay and Chourus added. It has a good crunch rythm sound when you roll off the guitar volume and then a more saturated sound when you pull up the volume. I have used this pedal with various amps. It sounds best through a Matchless amp. S, DC, or HD30. I have used it in front of a Fender Vibro king and a bassman 50 head with very good results too.
It really sounds it's best in front of a Divided By 13 FRT 37 reverb Channel. The worst sound I have heard was through those Fender Blues amps, (The Blues Deluxe, a Deville) But I don't like those amps at all anyway. As far as hiss and noise, Well it is a HI-Gain over drive so, there is a tad bit of hi gain hiss and noise. But not near as much as a Tone Bone or a Bogner XTC red channel.

Reliability : 10
I have had this pedal for over eight years. I have gigged with it the whole time as my main overdrive pedal.Six nights a week in most cases.Never had any problem with it at all. Never changed either or the tubes. I have another one that is still in the Box as a back up , but I never have had to use it yet! That is why I am submitting this review. This is one of the most reliable piece of gear that I have owned.

I have delt with Mesa/Boogie a few times over the years as I used to use thier line of amps. They are very good at taking care of thier product users.

Overall Rating : 10
I play variety music. Rock, Blues, Country etc.I have been a full time musician for 27 years. The Boogie V Twin is an excellant Overdive/Distortion pedal for working musician. Sounds great with any guitar and almost any amp. ( And it could be used as a weapon if need be! Damn thing is made like a Sears/Craftman tool box!) Why did Boogie quit making these ? Could be that this pedal pluged in to any amp decent amp will sound as good or better that the stuff Boogie is making now. I wish they would make a simpler one that just has the red Channel. They would sell a million of them I'm sure.
