Ease of Use : 8
I use this Isolated ABY to enable me to biamp.By isolating the split signal it prevents ground loops which in turn prevents nasty hums and crackling. One channel is direct, the other is the isolated one.
Doesn't need a manual, it has 1 input and 2 output jacks and a boss type power socket. The outputs are labelled straight thru and isolated. I believe there maybe a stereo version in the pipeline.
It is recommended that you use an adapter to power it (it does have provision for a battery) so it gets an 8, although I'm sure the battery would last for a gig at least.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a 72 Strat with Lindy Frahlins, into Flying Fox, into (A)Analogman Bi Comp,Sunlion,Kot, Moonphaser, Blackbox Quicksilver Delay, Lofi Loop Junky into Budda Dual stage 30 4x10 combo. And /or (B)
Late 70's Mesia Zoom 1x12 60w All Valve Combo (Boogie mk2 copy).
I use the Flying Fox for my Psych/Surf/Prog/Space band. It's a three piece and I need a BIG sound that can only be obtained by using 2 amplifiers. The Budda copes very well in its own right but sometimes you just need that bottom end and girth that the 1x12 Boogie clone gives you.
I have always had massive problems biamping using a normal ABY due to ground loop hum. One rehearsal room I use has attrocious wiring which renders my second amp completely unusable. This is where I tried out the Flying Fox for the first time. OMG, absolutely silent- not a trace of mains hum or crackle. If it works here- it will work anywhere. After giving it a thorough testing at home, I can say that this isolated ABY is absolutely transparent, I can honestly not hear a difference between the two channels and my signal is getting through uncoloured.
I also use it For my Quicksilver delays' wet channel in stereo mode to isolate the signal to my second amp. I place the amps about 15 feet apart and stand in the middle.Fantastic Gilmore/Hillage/Precoda sounds.

Reliability : 8
I've had mine since November 2004 and have had no problems.
Seems to be built like a brick ****house, good quality switches and sockets, neat wiring and soldering. The only downside is that the battery clip seems to have been an afterthought and leaves the battery unanchored. This may have been rectified in later units, mine was a very early one.So an 8.
I would definately use without a back up.

Customer Support : 10
I had the first unit produced. The Isolated channel had a marked volume drop when used in front of any true bypass effects. I contacted Andi and he immediately took it back and rectified the problem. Monkey effects is one man company and therefore you get a first class service. Andi is a true gent and will undertake custom orders.

I've been playing and gigging for 28 years and therefore I hope I know my stuff by now. I have my own style but my influences are Link Wray,Beefheart,Steely Dan,Floyd,Gong/Hillage,Who,MBV,Gang of Four,Fairports.
I also own a Monkey TB looper and a Monkey Fuzz-also excellent.
I would replace it if lost or stolen.
It does what it says on the box.
If you're planning on using multiple amps you will need an isolated ABY box, full stop. Just because you get no ground loops at home doesn't mean they don't exist. At somepoint you will come across a venue where you will not be able to use your 2nd amp with a normal ABY. The only other fully isolated unit is the very expensive Lehle.
If you're looking at a multi amp set up I would seriously consider the Flying Fox Isolated ABY, in fact it's a no-brainer. It is amazing value for something that works so well, and you're supporting an independent UK builder- a rare breed.

Ease of Use : 10
There are 2 switches, 1 selecting outputs A or B, the other selecting whether your signal gets sent to both at once, or just one. It is very easy to use and understand thanks to colour coded LED's and clearly labled jack sockets.

Sound Quality : 10
Great. The unit doesn't colour my sound at all. I've used it with a variety of amps and effects and I don't get any popping or switching noise at all. There is no signal loss or gain and one of the outputs is buffered in case you want to run a fuzz after it, which works fine.

Reliability : 10
Very solidly built - industry standard switches and jack sockets in a tough case. It has yet to let me down and I can't really see how it could to be honest. I would, and have gigged without a backup, and if anything were to go wrong with it then Andi (the top monkey) would fix it for me.

Customer Support : 10
Brilliant!!
The first model I bought from Monkey FX popped when changing between outputs, so I contacted Andi. He simply said, send it back and I'll fix it. No questions asked or anything complicated like that. He duely fixed it and sent it back to me within a week. The new one didn't pop at all, so I'm a very happy customer. The fact that I can talk/email the designer of these pedals is fantastic. That they then fix MY pedal for ME is even better.

Overall Rating : 10
I went with Monkey FX because their pedal did the same thing as a Lehle switcher for a fraction of the cost and as an added bonus it is made here in the UK. I've never tried any other type of ABY pedal, but I'm perfectly happy with this one. It doesn't affect my tone in a bad way, it just splits it so I can have twice as much. Brilliant!
