Monster Effects Mastortion

Pretty easy. Two knobs. They're not even labeled. Just play around and have fun. Oh, and it came packed with lots of ear plugs. Funny, but a good hint...

Using this with tube amps. An old Traynor Mk3 combo, and a tiny Vox 4 w combo. So the only way to describe this pedal is like holy ****! Completely open and uncompressed. Just pushes yer dertay (or clean) amp over the top. It's just insane. It sounds like the amp is just going to exploooode. Super punchy. The left knob controls volume and there's plenty on tap. The right knob is for extra grit, and this one's warm and fuzzy and huge sounding. You don't need to crank the knobs for the desired effect, but it's good at higher settings too. I'm saying that this pedal is super perfect on old, lower gain tube amps. I think this would give you a distinct high-gain sound. Definitely a new flavour of pedal. I can't imagine it would be that useful on a modern high-gain amp. Quiet enough too. Just totally fun. Wicked with all guitars - LPs, SGs, even teles. Just sends it. Oh yeah it does.

It's fairly new, so I can't say fer sure, but I'm sure it's built well. It's hand numbered and ****, so I'm sure it's backed.

Um, I waited a long time for this one to arrive, like I forgot that I was actually waiting for it, but whatever, it's different from anything else I have and not common at all, so I'm just happy to finally get my hands on one. I can forgive and forget.

So when I feel like playing loud and aggressive, this is the pedal I plug into. It's on the expensive side, but you only live once. I guess I should compare it to other high gain pedals....so in that category I've got a v3 OCD (a good version I must say), a couple of fuzzy Muff pedals (I think we all know what they do), a hot-rodded MXR distortion+ (loud and proud, but really noisy), and a CMAT Brownie (not too shabby, just a bit thin sounding imho). The difference between this and all others is that it's totally open sounding i.e. not compressed, and really loud and gainy and just obnoxiously ballsy. You hear other pedals being described like this all the time, but this one is king of that in my books. I just don't think there's anything like it out there for what it does. It's for the aggressive side of your brain though, don't be fooled. Not a subtle pedal. Like a hot-rodded hot rod. I love it, and my neighbours probably hate it.

Two knobs. Thats it. Plain and simple. Click it on and start killing everything.

This thing give AMAZING open ending overdrive. Sustain for days and the clarity of the amp itself. I run it with an '82 Gibson Sonex through an '83 JCM800 with the preamp all the way up and control the sweep with my volume on the guitar. It goes from a great smoothed out blanket of fuzz to sounding like the amp is about to blow up! PREFECT!

I have also used it with an early 80's Rickenbacker bass for recording and live and it gives a great thumping distored bass sound. Not too overdriven so you can stil hear the notes, but heavy as hell!

I have had it for 2 years. Use it at least 6 times a week for practice and have toured the country 5 times using it every night for months at a time. It has NEVER let me down!

I use a power adapter with it, so I really can't comment on how the battery life is.

John RULES. I wrote him back in 2006 about the pedal. He wrote back immediately and let me know how much it would be and how long it would take. A month later I have my pedal BEAUTIFUL as anything AND signed by Bill from Mastodon!

I can't rave about this pedal enough. It has become a part of my sound for everything. It truely is my "secret" weapon. It has no name on it, just a great emerald green. I love watching people lean over to see what the hell is making that sound when I stomp it on!

If it were stolen I would be devastated. I could only hope John would make me another one.

I have been playing for about 18 years and this really is my favorite stomp box i have ever owned.

Two knobs: Volume and Overdrive/Boost.

Using USA BC Rich w/EMGS, Les Paul w/Duncan Distortion, and Tokai Tele w/Duncan Broadcaster and Vintage Tele Pups. Amp is a Peavey XXX.

Pedal is not very noisy unless used in VERY high gain settings. Very quiet with the single coils.

With the BC Rich and Les Paul running the XXX in high gain settings is GREAT!!!! It adds a bit of chime/sparkle to your tone. Very open and organic, not compressed at all!! Sounds like the pedal is an Overdrive coupled with a Presence knob on an amp. VERY GREAT TONE!!! For you Mastodon fans, this pedal will add a bit of gain and sparkle to your amp (best you be using a high-gain tube amp).

On Clean channel w/the Tele: Adds a bit of low-end chunk and makes the notes a bit snappier, thicker, and all-around better.

Compared to: Fulltone OCD, DOD YJM-308, Ibanez Tube Screamer....Mastortion blows them all away!! Not tha the above mentioned pedals are bad, but the Mastortion is THE OVERDRIVE for ME!!!!!!!! Easier to get your desired tone, simple design and VERY INEXPENSIVE FOR THE PRICE!!!

ANYONE WITH A TUBE AMP SHOULD OWN THIS PEDAL!!!!! It will never leave my pedal board!

Awesome overdrive. Works well with different guitars and different pickups. Been playing for 13 years now, mostly Rock and Metal. This pedal is very me. I could see why the Mastodon boys use them. Great product at a great price.
