Very clear set-up and display. If you are at all familiar with filters, it is a piece of cake. I use it with both guitar and bass and it makes both sound incredible! Analog made easy. The envelope follower is cool as hell, you can do some really funky stuff with it(best on guitar). I make funk, hip-hop, and rock and this thing makes my world go 'round.

Sound Quality : 9
Overall it sounds friggin sweet, brings the warm analog sound out of anything. It kills any digital processor. I wanted to give it a 10 of 10, however, being completely analog and not shielded, mine tends to occassionally pick up a little electromagnetic interference like buzzes and radio stations. This can be solved with either positioning it in a different place in the room, or I have read in other forums that it is easy to get shielded. I hope to do the latter eventually. Otherwise it is a beast of a filter with amazing resonance. I will soon pick up a Moog EP-2 to plug into the frequency control, which will make it the coolest wah-wah ever, especially with the envelope follower on top of it all. I have already played with the knob with my toe and it is awsome! For bass, it kills any unwanted 60 cycle humm (single pick ups) and leaves the lows nice and warm (eg. earth shattering low end!) Buy it and you will never regret it!

Reliability : 10
Built by the masters of analog at Moog, I see no reason this thing would ever crap out or even screw up at all. Shield it and it will be good to go anywhere!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I hear they are personable, but I have no need for help yet.

Overall Rating : 10
It is the most I've ever spent on a pedal, but nothing can give you this kind of filtering and warmth. I have used it for like 5 months and it is increds. It makes even a piece of sh*t guitar (eg. squire strat) sound funky, just imagine what it does with a real guitar like a Les Paul. And for bass, man!, it makes my P-Bass sound soooo full. Shake the whole apt. complex with warmth. I swear if I'm not careful I will break windows with this thing. Tune the frequency while the resonance is up to 8 and boy does it sing. If it is lost or stolen I would freak out, then save money to buy another because I can't live without it. I never plug in my instruments without it! nuff said.

Very Simple. At the moment that you switch on the effect you must take a few minutes for set all control and have good sound, but the first time you must have time to understand this pedal. Is important to read all manual, you can use the effect also whitout read the manual, but is very interesting, ensign many notion theoretichal (no other manual is like that).

Sound Quality : 10
I have no words. This effect is amazing. I play JazzBass '78 or MusicMan Stingray-->CryBaby 105Q-->MF-101-->overdrive ODB3-->Super Comp MXR into a SVT3PRO with SVT410HLF. The MF-101 is a little noisy when you put up the Cut-Off and the Resonance, but is not bad. I love this effect, the sound is very Space-Funk, you have infinite solution to have many many different sound. For have top operation, you must to have a strong input-signal to open hard the filter. I think if you play keyboard or drum machine the effect is more perceptible, but is realy good too with bass. MF-101 enable to have tipical envelope sound like Bootsy Collins, but more synthetize, realy funk old-style, but if you take resonance afther 8, MF-101 start to oscillate, and you can fly into the space!! Fantastic! If you turn resonance after 9, you have permanent oscillate and is good to make intro or outline riff, but i recomande to take this fabulous control after 8, before 9.

Reliability : 9
Very strong case, vintage style, good.

Overall Rating : 10
I play prevalently Funk-Rock and the MF-101 is perfect beacouse he joins the mellow bass power of low pass filter at the Super-Funky-Killer sound of envelope filter. I played the bass for many years and i have tried and own many many envelope filters (my favourite effect: EBS Bass IQ, DOD FX25B, Q-Tron+, Meatball. Lovetone Meatball is considerd the best evelope filter in world...but is very very expensive have so many unusable sound and can't oscillate...but is realy good too, the MF-101 and Meatball are king of envelope filters.
Personally, with MF-101, i have found my definitive envelope filter.

This is a very easy pedal to get sounds out of. The manual does a good job of explaining as well. You can't save any patches.

Sound Quality : 10
By itself the MF 101 produces a nice funky envelope generated wah. It's very good at sculpting tone. It also has quite a bit of output gain, making it useful for some overdrive. To get the most out of the pedal one would need at least one exptression pedal to modulate some of the parameters. But it really comes alive when using other Moogerfooger's CV for modulation. By itself some might find the pedal uninspiring. Guitar players might not be too impressed, but bass players would appreciate it more. The envelope is triggered by the dynamics of the instrument. I'm a guitar player and liked it, but loved it when I added other MFs and patched into their CV outs.I've been using it mostly with MF 102 (Ring Modulator) and the MF 103 (phaser). These have been going directly into a mixer with a Line 6 Echo Pro and a Lexicon reverb processor. Together this produces some unearthly sounds.

Reliability : 10
Seems well-built and very reliable. I would not feel I would need a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have never needed to call customer support.

Overall Rating : 10
A great warm sounding Low Pass filter that really is a great start for a system of Moogerfooger pedals. I am using it mainly for ambient music. I would have to replace this if stolen. When used in conjunction with other MF pedals the MF101 really comes alive and the Envelope Out CV creates some great modulations for other MF pedals. For the guitarist or bass player, the MF101 really is great at producing funky wah sounds. One of my favorite features is the CV out. If you don't want to buy another MF pedal right away, then make sure you get a decent expression pedal or two or three to modulate the parameters. For the build and the analogue sound, the price makes this a very great value.

ok first off, this is a review for bass players, second, the pedal is really easy to understand if you know how to use a moog synth. if not you'll need to read the manual, and mess with it a while. if you know how to use it, it rocks!!!

Sound Quality : 10
the sound is killer. i use a jazz bass, with active pick-ups > boss tuner > mini-Q-tron > boss octave > moogerfooger > GK400rb > 4 10 cab, and some times a 1 15 cab too. the pedal makes no unwanted noise. this is one of the pedals Dan Kurtz of the new deal uses. you can get that sound for sure, and many others.
ok, if you really want to make this pedal scream...you got to get an octave pedal, and at least 1 CV controller, id say 2 for it. one for the "cut-off"(most important in my mind) and one for the "resonance". set the "amount" to whatever you like i set it around 7 right now, but it depends. the "mix" is usually from 7-10. the "cut-off" is just below the second notch under 250. the "resonance" between 6-7. once you go over 7 on the "resonance" the pedal starts to oscillate, so be careful not to hurt your speaker. ok, now plug a CV controller into the cut-off. remember that when the CV is all the closed...back. its at the ponit you set the knob too...2 notches under 250. from there when you rock your foot forward it increases towards the 5k ponit. so work each note(s) you play accordingly. experiment with being a knob jockey. adjusting the pedal as you play really opens the doors to what this pedal is all about.

Reliability : 10
so far so good, ive had it a little over a year

never used it, dont think i will either. ive got a guy who does all my amp, pedal work for me. gary at The Ampworks in belchertown, Ma

Overall Rating : 10
i play "space-funk" in a band called NBFB. this pedal is prefect. its funky as hell, and can throw down on electronic jams, and can kick it in the rock songs as well. if it stops working, ill get another. the only thing i dislike, but its no big deal, is that you cant adjust the drive with a CV controller. that'd be hot if you could! all in all, you and the pedal just need to come to an understanding. when to use it, how to set it. it really is a great piece for your rig.

took a little while to get good sounds, but after reading manual and spending a few hours i got really cool sounds from it. controls are really sensitive to each movement, and can drastically effect the sound by just a little movement.

Sound Quality : 9
here is my setup:
fender jaguar > furman 31 band rack eq > voodoo labs superfuzz > marshall jcm 2000 dsl 401
amp effects loop: send: Moog LoW Pass > MXR Phase 90(1978) > EH Small Clone > Boss GE-7 > Boss DD-3, Boss RC-20 > Boss NS-2 > BBE Sonic Maximizer > Return

The moog is true bypass, but the drive knob will affect sound even when turned off. the sound quality is great, i tried it by it self first and then with all my other effects and both times it sounded great. you can get some pretty wierd sounds from this pedal, i like to loop a riff and then play with the moog to get crazy sounds.

Reliability : 8
so far so good, only have had it for 2 months.i would depend on it for sure.
paid 200 for it, so i couldnt really afford a backup, would like one though! moog is a great name, probably will last a long time.

Customer Support : 7
havent talked with them yet, no need. but i am sure they are very helpful

Overall Rating : 9
i love this pedal, at first i thought it only made a few sounds, but then i learned how to use it. i can get lots of different sounds and lots of stuff i really like. we play funk/jam rock and this helps to create weird and crazy noises, as well as help with solos and such. if it were lost or stolen i would like to get a new one, but they are pretty expensive. i wish i had an expressiion pedal for it, they are only 40 bucks, so i might get one. i love this pedal!!

MF-101 Lowpass filter used with a Kawai 4 string, and a Warwick Thumb-b5, through a SWR Workingman's 300 and SWR Triad Cab.
For all of you who are looking for the super funky bass sound and you can't afford a lovetone meatball, this is your pedal. The MF-101 has much range to fool around with, which is great news for multiple bass users. The n2 basses I use are night and day to each other, but the MF-101 can be quickly reset to find the right resonance to funktify. Run it through a boss octave and you are unstoppable, the women will line up at the gate.

Reliability : 9
At this point I feel I can rely on it, so long as it is taken care of properly(case, bag, neatly wrap power cord)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Hasn't been an issue, manual was very helpful and easy to read.

Overall Rating : 9
The sound can be tweaked in many ways to suit your bass properly. With other envelope filters and auto wahs the sound coming from the bass is usually overdriven or just plain crappy. The mf-101 is clean and easily tweaked and VERY funky, I was happier with this sound over any boss product, Q-tron, and cheap digital crap like guyatone.

Ease of Use : 8
Easy to use...a lot easier than the other moogerfooger pedals. It does have more than your average lowpass filter so I give it an 8.

Sound Quality : 9
It really sounds wonderful. It is the classic 24db resonant moog filter found in the original minimoogs. I have a moog rogue that allows for an external input and I must say that the moogerfooger sounds better than the filter in the moog rogue! It has a lot more variables to tweak and sounds more watery. This is a must if you are looking to get the whole moogerfooger set...which i HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!!!!! Somethimes the pedals sound kind of dull on their own but when you hook all the moogerfoogers up together (my favorite order is ringmod, lowpass, phaser) you can really get some great analog synth sounds out of whatever you play them through. Truely amazing!
The only reason I give this pedal a 9 is becasue I have heard that the lovetone meatball is a better pedal...I just dont have 500 dollars to check one out. Really 250 is too much to pay for a pedal and twice that is insane. Don't be an idiot and buy a lovetone...no effect is worth that much unless your last name is Trump.

Reliability : 6
I give it a 6 because, although it's never broken down on me, it does not seem as sturdy as some of my other footpedals. Having said that, I rarely use it as a "footpedal." I find that during concerts it's nice to have my moogerfoogers up where my hands can tweak them. They really wont do you justice sitting on the floor.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never talked to them so i dont know.

Overall Rating : 9
I love this pedal...but I do hear that the lovetone meatball is better. Oh well, I'll never know and, in the meantime, I'll be having too much fun messing around w/ my lowpass!

Ease of Use : 8
Extremely easy to use compared to Lovetone meatball!!! A little more difficult than a mxr. Anyone should be able to get there brain around it though.

Sound Quality : 8
I do not personally own this unit. Tonight a friend of mine who does own this and i did an extended comparison between this unit and the lovetone meatball.
I have been using HC for a long LONG time, and i have never felt so compelled to write a review. After several hours of switching out basses (we were playing on an eden rig which remained constant through out the whole session) and listening to the lovetone against the moogerfooger, One thing was very VERY apparent. The Lovetone is a much better filter. It didnt really take that long to hear it, but we tried to let the versitility of both pedals show through.
The Moogerfooger does have some good points. (1) It is much easier to use. As i could get most of the sounds i was looking for out of it quite quickly. whereas the lovetone still suprises me from time to time. (2) It is not hard to make this pedal self oscillate, which is very very cool sounding. On the other hand it is pretty hard to make the lovetone self oscillate. In fact the only good ways i have been able to achieve that is by putting things in the Lovetone fx loop. Which is one thing the Moogerfooger does not have (3) the Moogerfooger has control outputs for all of its key functions, whereas the Lovetone only has two.
But in the end, the Lovetone just totally won out. My friend is now tring to buy mine off me, since i dont use it very much (as i am a guitar player infatuated with delay.) But the Lovetone has a LOT more sound sculpting options and SO much more depth to the envelope.
In all fairness the Lovetone did cost me twice as much as the Moogerfooger cost him, But if you are looking for the best envelope filter, There is no question in my mind! Unless you need something that is either simple to work, or will self oscillate easily (which is especially cool on drum tracks.) But if you are looking for deep, rich, watery, funk, then you need to lovetone it, or do yourself a favor and NEVER listen to one after you buy a moogerfooger, which is a sweet pedal in its own right.

Reliability : No Opinion
Looks sturdy, But i have no idea

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never Delt with, However i do know that Lovetone's customer support is horrible, as, lovetone went out of business. And while Vlad (the designer) is still around, he only answers emails about buying things.

Overall Rating : 8
I play anything from jazz, to funk, to radiohead. I love all sorts of music in one way or another. I have been around the block with tons of gear and honestly i still havent found the perfect gear for me. But i do know one thing, Lovetone makes the BEST envelope filter i have ever heard. Before tonight, i had hoped to be able to sell my meatball, buy a moogerfooger and keep a little cash on the side, but now i know that that would be a crazy mistake. If the lovetone was lost (what a ridiculous thought) or stolen then i would get another (they can be had for around 450-600 depending on the time of year.) But if i had a Moogerfooger stolen i wouldnt mind to much, i would be bitter yes, but i wouldnt kill myself getting another.
Bottom line is... The best envelope filter for your money is then Lovetone Meatball, but the moogerfooger is a cool alternative to tide you over.

starts out pretty hard to work with. many people get frustrated BUT have patience and start by using the settings that are listed in the book. this will give you an idea of what kinds of sounds you can get out of it. without the manual i would have been lost but with it its pretty easy to use. with the right knowhow you could easily upgrade or make additions to the pedal and it shouldnt be hard to get schematics for it. incredible pedal!

Sound Quality : 10
i have use it with, bass, guitar, synthesizers, vocals. this pedal sounds great with EVERYTHING. realy cool swirly sounds, to funky wah sounds, to SCREAMING theremin sounds. i used it to make PIERCING frequencies to hurt peoples ears. it sounds a lot like a theremin when you use it to create its own frequencies. it seems to have somewhat of a built in overdrive that you cannot bypass without a bypass pedal. when adjusting the level of the pedal keep in mind that you will be adjusting the overall volume of your output. for this reason i usually place this pedal either first or last in my massive pedal train (about 14 pedals). that is my ONLY complaint about this pedal and it is a relatively easy fix.

Reliability : 10
NEVER had a problem with it and i have been gigging and recording with it for 3 or 4 years. amazing pedal!

Customer Support : 10
they are easy to talk to and very helpful. they sent me a new manual for FREE when mine got torn up by a dog. really cool guys ready to help. i havent asked for schematics yet so i dont know how easily they would come up off them but a great company and an incredible product.

Overall Rating : 10
i play everything from poppy, peppy rocky, to reggae infulenced pop, to synty pop, to straight forward rock n roll. this pedal goes from just being a serious volume pedal, to making some of the funkiest wah sounds to making its OWN frequencies that are very theremin like. it sounds best with my synthpop style music adding a lot of color and demension to both vocals and synthesizer sounds. its THE best low pass filter i have ever used. if it got stolen i would cry and save up money to buy a new one. everything i have ever gotten (except expression pedals, they are a WASTE of money) from this company has been excellent. their theremins are amazing and of course old moogs are the greatest. if bob moog makes it chances are its quality. the only problem is the expression pedals (of which they suckerd me into buying TWO) only lasted about 4 months before they totally got scratchy as hell. ive done about everything imaginable short of replacing the pots which i assume i will have to do. if you have pedal knowhow, build your own. but buy EVERYTHING ELSE that this company makes and you WONT be dissapointed.

A blind monkey could use this thing!! There's not much to control here; it's a simple 2- or 4-Pole 24db Low
Pass filter guys!!

The knobs are nice and fluid, the rocker switches rock, and the wood panels are a nice analog touch!! Only 5
knobs to control, CV input jacks, 2 rocker switches, and a foot/on-off switch.

Sound Quality : 10
Yummmm....

Reliability : 8
Err... I'd like the on-off switch to be a little more reliable: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But I
think that this is just my unit being squirelly... I should get it looked at!!

Customer Support : 9
Damn these guys rock!! Didn't need support per se, but I emailed their support department to ask a few
questions, and they've been quick to respond.

Overall Rating : 10
If it were lost or stollen, I'd hunt down the person who took it, and beat them to a bloody p---..... Then I
would have to get another one!! =D It makes my filterless synths sound phat, and sounds just great with a
guitar too....

Glad Dr. Bob got the name Moog Music back too!!!
