I have the original 70s version of this pedal & it differs from the re-issue in a couple of ways. Firstly, there is no battery compartment, so it has to run from a power adapter. That can be a bit annoying at gigs. Secondly, the foot pedal controls the delay time & the mix control is on the side. I believe it's the other way around on the re-issue.

It's reasonably simple to use but takes a bit of time to set up properly. 2 foot switches, a power switch, 3 knobs, a Treadle pedal & good, bright LED's. I like the way that the LED pulses at the speed of the chorus sweep even when chorus is not engaged. That makes it easy to adjust midway through a song.

Sound Quality : 9
I generally use this in the effects loop of my Peavey 6505 because it sounds best there & also because it always lets a little of the effect bleed through, even when the effect is supposed to be off. I use high gain settings & if I run the ECV directly into the amp's input it tends to suck the tone a little & I get the effect bleed as mentioned above. Also there is always a little hum because it's connected to the mains. It's pretty quiet & unobtrusive though. These are very minor issues imo & otherwise, I can't fault the sound at all. The ECV has 2 outputs & can send the effect to one & bypassed signal to the other so you can have some stereo fun. Or, you can run it in mono & blend the signal.

The Echo setting gives a really lush, warm, vintage analogue delay. It doesn't have a massively long delay time (plenty long enough for my taste though) but I can get an almost infinite amount of repeats with the right setup. Also, the mix control allows the ECV to go all the way from about 99% wet to 99% dry. Basically that means that you can set the delay sound to be louder than your clean guitar signal if you want. However, a very subtle vintage echo can also be easily achieved. Adjusting the foot pedal while Echo is engaged will speed up the sound & shift the pitch up or down. This is the reason why I bought the ECV as I was sick of having to get down on the floor to adjust the controls on my other delay when I wanted some trippy noises. It's my favourite thing about the ECV & I've no idea why the new ones don't have this feature.

The Chorus setting is very different to most modern Chorus, Flange, Phase effects. It's very warm & does not really produce that high frequency 'swishy' effect. It's much more organic sounding. I generally use it in a subtle way just to give my guitar sound a bit more depth & character or for awesome oscillating feedback. It can be set to get some fairly crazy pitch Bending sounds when all the knobs are on full whack. Especially with the effect mix on full.

Vibrato is basically achieved by rocking the pedal all the way forward when in Chorus mode. This makes the pitch oscillate very quickly & you get a bubbly, watery sound very similar to the intro of Nirvana's Come As You Are. Back the controls off a little & there are a whole range of really useable tones available. Turn the controls up & it gets very spacey & psychedelic.

I bought my ECV for home & studio use but is sounds so good that I also use it live as well.

Reliability : 10
Morley stuff is very reliable. My ECV functions perfectly despite being over 30 years old & getting used heavily. I don't take a backup to gigs because this thing has been totally flawless & I'm sure I could make it through a gig even if it did fail.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed to contact them but I hear that they're very helpful.

Overall Rating : 9
I give a 9 because I'd like to be able to use batteries & the delay time could be a little longer. I use it for Doom & retro stuff & it totally nails that spaced out late 60's early 70's vibe. Looks amazing too because it's chrome & huge (totally dwarfs my Crybaby).

This pedal has some usefull tones. Best to use an adapter with it because it really eats up battery power. Overall I wasnt happy with the pedal. I owned one of the original ECV pedals. The original one allowed you to control the Rate of the effect with the footpedal. The "tribute" version DOES NOT. All the footpedal on the tribute does is determine the volume of the effect in the "mix". That gets boring real fast. I try to like the post Morley chrome pedals, but I cant seem to find any that sound as good as the old chrome ones. The Mark T wah is about the only new Morley that I like. The old chrome morley pedals have better features and the tones are a bit more musical sounding.

Analog Echo/Chorus unit. Echo times up to 300ms. When Echo is on, treadle pedal controls wet/dry mix. Echo has delay time and feedback knobs. When chorus is turned on, treadle controls chorus speed. Also has a Depth knob. Each effect has an on/off footswitch.

Note: Chorus effect footswitch toggles between echo and chorus. i.e. you cannot have echo and chorus on at the same time.

Sometimes the treadle is a bit hard to get into the sweet spot you are after.

I use this pedal with a few setups. Ash Strat Deuxe, PRS Custom 22, Rivera and Mesa amps. I bought it because I wanted a vintage sounding analog echo unit. It fills this role perfectly. Nice warm echos. I also have a reissue deluxe memory man and I find the Morley has a less muddy sound. The feedback knob does not go to extreme. You cannot make it go nuts like some units out there.

The Chorus mode is nothing special. It does an ok leslie/fast vibrato effect, but I find when the depth knob is set to a medium level, you can't really hear anything unless the rate is cranked up high.

The unit actually works well using it into the input and using the amps distortion. The echoes do not get crazy like my Memory Man does on the overdrive channel.

I give this unit an 8 for the echo and a 5 for the chorus.

It's a Morley pedal. They generally last a LONG time. I have a chrome unit and it looks pretty sharp. If something breaks on a gig, I make do without it, but always travel with spare tubes, adapters, strings, cables and an extra guitar. The show must go on.

Never dealth with them. It's a pedal, they generally are very rugged.

I play mostly hard rock and tend to like lots of preamp gain from my Rivera or Mesa amps, although I am getting into power tube saturation more and more now. It's a great match for any style really that requires a short delay unit. I own a Fender Deluxe Ash Strat and a PRS Custom 22. Mesa F50 amp, Rivera R55 and a Rivera Sub1 and have been playing for 18 years. I like equipment that sounds good to me and feels good to play.

I wish it had a longer delay time like my Memory Man, but I sounds great and can run off batteries. I wanted an analog delay unit for my second rig and most of them out there are overpriced as anything these days that says ANALOG or VINTAGE in it's description gets its price jacked up. I think this is an awesome value for an analog delay. I got mine on Ebay, New-Old-Stock, still in shrink wrapped box. I would definately try to find another if it was lost or stolen.

I think if Morley made this pedal with a fuzz it would be pretty cool.

First of all I'm lucky 'cause I got the Chrome One (wich were made in a limited edition of 300) and it's the reissue. I love it for the wet/dry feature being foot adjustable, and the speed of the chorus that you can change to a vibrato in the same way is really cool for adjusting your effect to the beat of the song... and we all know that it depends a bit on the drummer and that this fluctuate from day to day (well at least a little you know what I mean here) If it ever get stolen, I would try to find another one and I would nuy the standard one if I can't find my chrome baby.
