I got this defective at a pawn shop, it needed a chip replaced. Got it replaced and now I use it as a kind of fuzz box. With the compression all the way up and the output low, I get a nice throaty kind of Marshall preamp gain out of it that tends to feedback and sustain slightly as well as give my signal a little boost to get the lead over the other instruments. Cool!

I'm one to try everything regaurdless of price or hype. I've found some real gems that no big star ever played that still go cheap.
This is NOT one of them.

This is THE WORST guitar compressor & ever tried. More like a reverse noise gate. Harsh extreme squash for notes & lots of his when you quit playing. Not natural AT ALL.

My goodness it's BAD! Do yourself a favor & try a different compressor. Maybe an Analogman Juicer or an old MXR but whatever you do put the $40 toward a more musical compressor cuz this one is really bad.

I use an ESP Vintage Plus Strat and an ESP MH-200(the older good one not the newer cheap one)through a Marshall JCM 600 (HEAD), Marshall 2X12 1936 Cab, Fender Hotrod Deluxe, Budda Superdrive 30 (Head), Crate Vitage Club 50 3x10(Older Blonde Model), Crate Vintage Club 50 1x15(Older Blonde Model). This pedal is clean. It gets a little noisy with distortion but not as noisy as most other compressors. I've owned all but Ross and this one kicks the poop out of them all. Even the Tech-21 Comptortion the reviews on it were great but it ticks if you hold a note long enough. This morley is clean and fat. As stated in previous reviews it chicken picks great very defined notes. I don't think its true bybass if you go buy the definitions of guys like analog man but it doesn't seem to load my signal down at all. I use a pedal board got rid of all that digital rack crap and went back to the warm heaven of analog pedals.

I found this one in an old nusic store in New Mexico. The guy wanted $75 bucks for it but when I tested it the bybass didn't work the switch seemed fine so the guy let me open it up. The wires all looked like someone tried to repair it but they couldn't solder for s&%$. I talked him down too $55 knowing what it was. I was pretty shure I could fix it.

When i got the unit home I replaced the switch. I keep Carlin DPDT switches in stock. The switch didn't fix it. I e-mailed morley and recieved a response the next day from Bill Wenzloff (Engineering/Special Projects Coordinator) he also sent his card with phone number in the mail. He said in the E-mail Morley no longer repaired this pedal it was too old, but he would send schematics all he wanted was my mailing address. I recieved the schmatics today (5 Days from last E-Mail). The switch was wired wrong. I re-wired it and removed the two 9 Volt battery leads. I use a pedal power 2 so I don't need them. It now functions perfectly. Its built like a tank its a fricken leathal weapon its that heavy. . This is the way customer support is supposed to be. I didn't even have to pay for the stamp. You just don't get customer support like this anymore! If I could give an 11 rating I would.

I've been playing Blues, Rock, and Metal for the past 19 years, man I'm gettin old. If it were stolen I doubt I'd find another to replace it but I orderd all the major componets from Mouser(transistors/Ic's) today and I have the schematics so I would build another one.Its just a good compressor that does what its supposed to do very well. Its not over engineered but it is probably the best built pedal I own other than my fulltone pedals and my maxon delay (the expensive big purple one not the little one).Like I said better it sounds better than every other compressor I've used but I have never used or even heard a ross. If you find one buy it you can't go wrong.
