I use it with my Ibanez RG w/ EMG's.
Pedalboard:
Morley PWA II > Ibanez SM7 > Boss SD-1 > Boss CE-5 > Boss PH-3 > Digitech Synt Wah > Ibanez LF7 > Danelectro Real Echo
The pedal is not noisy, the "clear-tone" is good (like truse-bypass).
I love the optical design, much better than the others.
I owned an Ibanez WD7 before and i tried a CryBaby and i have to say this is the best wah i ever used. I really love rhis pedal. Simple and great!

This is for owners info:
I really like my wah, but cannot help myself when it comes to tinkering.
I changed resistor: R1 - 100k to a 33K and found this narrowed the sweep so the thing worked much more like a crybaby. So the thing was more in the mids range at both ends of the sweep.
I am an amateur at electronics and honestly was just seeing what it would do. I know how to modify crybabys to tailor them( info all over the web), so I thought I would have a go at the morley. So it seems to my ears that R1 affects the "Q" value.
I have now settled on 68K like in the original Mc Coy wahs. This just smooths off the top end of the wah.
I believe the 100k gives a really wide sweep - which is ace for modern sounds and high gain stuff. I play using more vintage tones with a strat thru a fender amp, which does not need any extra cut in the top end, so the 68K resistor works for me as I now can flatten the pedal without going "too far" for my guitar/amp setup.
The 100K however is ideal for dirty marshalls and other high gain applications.
So - sorry Bill W - thanks for the info on bending the LED. I did that, and still wanted to tinker. Now I am happier than ever.
The morley pedals are great products - it is just there is no info on modding these things to taste.
Tinkerers could go one stap further and add a 100K variable resistor, and get the sweep to suit them, but I have not tried that.
I have modidied and unmodified my crybaby and vox pedals to the Nth degree and just want to add that the Morley in in a different league as far as clarity and function.
Next thing will be a true bypass mod - although the bypass buffer on the morley really does seem to work beautifully. I am just being a solder geek....

i tend to use an epiphone explorer with a marshall 100dfx. i think that the sound is very good but there is alot of background. when the wah is turned on but pedal not pressed down the tone changes alot, this isnt a major problem but annoying. it provides alot of feedback when the wah is left open and nothing played but does give a nice lead guitar sound

its very reliable, i have never took a back up as i only own one an see it pointless to have more, i have never had any major problems, although with exessive use mine has began to sqeek but that was easily fixed. the power supply can become annoying if plugs behind because the input is right below it so you have to lie your power supply cable infront of it, which can make it very short, but can probably get longer ones. it is built like a brick and id be very shocked if it broke

US Strat Plus. Fender Hot Rod.
The by pass on this is clear as a bell.
Thw wah sound is heaps wider and ruder than a cry baby (which I replaced).
When it first arrived, I found the top out on the wah to be too trebly for my taste and the roll on the pedal was too touchy. I emailed Bill at Morley who emailed right back with directions on "customizing" my wah. So easy- bend the LED and Reciever away from each other a bit, and you get a more mid rangy sound. -Exactly what I wanted. Try a/b ing with a standard pot style wah. There is a huge difference. Bloody Marvellous.

Solid, Die Cast housing. Built like a tank. The electronics inside are really neatly done. However, I wouldnt want to slip and bend the level pot. Still - it is as solid as you can make it.

Wasn't happy with the sound out of the box. Emailed Bill and got a really quick reply and a sheet on tweaking my wah. So I tweaked my wah using one screwdriver and now it sounds A1! Really helpful. I will never get an upgrade because this unit is spot on.

I play blues & jazz. The wah is eq.d for (I think) metal sounds, but is easily adjusted to fatten it up for rootsy music using the LED. Bloody fantastic. Plus the optical sensors will never wear out or go scratchy like the pots in most other wahs. So cool. The boost feature is really cool too. Just set the wah at whatever point you like and use the pedal as a mid boost- great for woman type tones, or bassy for fat jazzy leads. Lurve it.

THIS IS NOT A CLASSIC WAH! nor does it sound very vocal-like. so if you want a wah like that, don't get this.
This is for a "modern wah" sound. For anywhere from Alternative to Hard Rock.(It sounds good clean too)
No noise is produced in my setup.
Effects sound great. If you slightly tilt the wah you can get a "flange-like" tone which is great with distortion. Only if you want it though, otherwise its just a wah.
Can I get the sound of Clapton? Probably not. don't want to.
Can I get the sound of Tremonti? YEAH! He uses a Morley.

I play Dearmond M-65c > morley wah > Hughes & Kettner edition silver > Korg toneworks ax30G (in loop)
I think it sounds very good. People shouldn't say the sound sucks because it isn't a classic wah sound; it's not a classic wah! I like it with distortion a little better than clean. It works very nicely even with lower notes as well as chords, on very high notes it seems less effective, but maybe I'll consult Morley to try and fix that. The sweep is just right for me, and what's very important, it is not noisy AT ALL and doesn't take off high frequencies. I borrowed a crybaby from a friend once and I was disgusted with the amount of tone and volume that thing sucked when the wah was off.
I also tried the bad horsie in a store because the switchless system really appeals to me, but I liked the sound and sweep of the pro series II better, so I bought that. Sound is more important than ease of use.

Very easy to use this pedal. I got it from another guitarist who did'nt like the sound of the pedal. No manaul was included, but got it of the Morly website. Basicly like any other pedal exept the on/off switch on the side of the pedal you have to get used to.

The previous owner did not like the sound at all. That why he sold it to me. My first reacftion was the same; The pedal reacts totally different compared to a cry baby or a vox.
That's why I contacted morley by email: that made things very clear. One of the tech guys explained that the position of led inside the pedal can be moved. It actuaaly influences the frequencys effected by the pedal. Very helpfull people at Morleys!
My setup is as follows: I don't use a lot of effects:
Boss Delay en Chorus into the parallel effectloop of a Marshall 6100 head. Mine is the EL34 version. The head goes to a JCM900 (4*12) cabinet.
The guitar goes into the Morley and from the Morley direct to the guitar input on the AMP. I always plug my guitars directly into the wha.
I use it with various guitars: Custom shop strat, American standard tele, Japanese Craftshop Jazzmaster '62 reissue and a Ibanez Talman with lippstick pickups.
Not noisy at all. When switched offf, this pedal does not 'f*ck up your sound. When switched on, it will influence your sound depending on the position of the level pot. I always have it in the lowest position possible.

Like everyone else says, simple to use... it's a wah. I personally like the on/off switch better to the side rather than under the toe. However, i do get tired of stomping buttons.

To me, the sound quality was great on the top 4 (d,g,b,e) strings when you stay below the 12th fret. However, when i played past the 12th fret, on any string, the wah strength disappeared. On the bass "E" and "a" string the wah response isn't quite as strong. I ran a strat style guitar through this wah into a korg ax1g multi effects pedal, and then into a DOD grunge pedal. With the distortion pedal on the wah doesnt cut quite as much as I was looking for. On clean the sound quality is great, though.

I will definitely stick with morley products, though, because i love their stuff. once i get my mark-1 wah, i'll submit a review of it so check for it if you're interested.

Very easy to use. Plug in, play, same as any other wah. The kickswitch thing is a bonus though, because I heard the Dunlop range have a push thing, so you can't accidently knowck this one on. The manual for it is pretty much useless, but it's easy enough to get your brain round anyway.

At the moment, I'm using a Line 6 FM4 Filter Modeler, a Boss DS-1, a Digitech X-series delay and this Wah pedal (not in that order) and all into a Carlsboro GLX100 amp....oh dear lord that amp kicks arse, but anyway...When the level is on high and you push the wah down all the way, you get a windy hissy noise, but I'm not complaining...our band uses it on one of their songs, so I don't mind it. The wah is superb on clean, you can really hear the tone altering drastically whatever level you have it on, but on overdrive, it's less prominent. It's still good if you use it properly, but it's harder to get a full sweep across the range from bass to treble and back.
Reliability
:
9
It's dependable. I gig it without a backup, but that's just because I have no cash to buy another one. It's probably best for you to not jump all over it, but since I'm a relatively sedate player when I'm near my oh-so-precious effects, it doesn't matter to me. You're supposed to rock a wah pedal anyway, not destroy it.

The music I play is Radiohead mixed with Coldplay, but with King Crimson and Rage Against the Machine effects. I do all the effects, and I find this pedal gives good opportunities for soloing, long sweeps and just basic texture control.
It compliments my other gear very well, and it helps me to get that "not guitar" sound that I find intriguing. However, I have been known to use it for more conventional stuff too, and I find it's pretty easy to use for Hendrix songs, Cream and most other classic bands that use wah.
If it were stolen, I'd probably get another, but it might be worth that extra ten bob or whatever to invest in a Dunlop one. Especially if you are a semi-pro.
What would go really nicely on it was if it had an anti-wah sound on it...My FM4 is supposed to have that, but it only works if you play it through the stereo channel, which is not at all practical for use in a band. What I mean by an anti-wah effect is like two wah pedals going in the opposite direction to each other, but since that is on none of the wah pedals I have ever heard of, it's not at all a fault in the Morley one.
It helps me to add that extra whatever to my sound, and although I don't use it generally to write riffs or sounds or anything, it often helps me cut through the mix and then sink back in whenever I want to, which gives the music I make an interesting "Is that a solo? Oh no it's gone" type thing.
Overall, this is a good long lasting piece of equipment, and if you use it with many other effects, it's true bypass function is immeasurably valuable. It's circuitry (so I've been told...I wouldn't know for sure, as I have only had it a year) won't wear down as fast as other wah pedals, so I bought it mainly on it's better than average sound quality and it's durablility. I find also that batteries last practically forever in it, but when they are finally on their last legs, they give your amp a really annoying clicky buzz type thing....but that's just an indicator to get another two quid battery...no big deal really.

Really good, sounds similar to the bad horsie, but this one can actually sound like a Wah, not a lot of treble, not alot of bass. Well Balanced. It sounds dirty on the clean channel though. But I never tried to get it to sound good... so I'll see when I do it. I could sound better if the distortion was created before the wah on y rig, cause I use only my amps distortion (marshall vs230). My teacher a bad horsie, and he said they sound the same, but mine sounds more like a wah than his. great pedal

My name is Bill Wenzloff. I work in the Engineering department at Morley. I frequently read the reviews here in an attempt to get a feel for peoples opinions and to help us to continually improve and evolve. Poor sound quality can come from a number of factors. I am here to help people with those problems. I have noticed that whenever anyone writes a negative review, they never leave an email. This does not allow me to contact these people and help them. I guess what I am saying is, if you are unsatisfied with a product (ANY product not just Morley), call the manufacturer and get help first! Then write your review. You'll be glad you did (when you're dealing with Morley that is). I can be reached at 800-284-5172 ext 12

I play a squier strat through a Boss OD-2R and this wah, then to a Fender SS amp.
I have to admit that it sounds like shit on dirty channel of the amp, but that's normal for a wah, as the distortion is created after the wah. However, with the OD-2R on it sounds amazing, and it has the biggest sweep (especially on the bass strings) than any other wah I've tried (Dunlops, Voxes, Danelectro, etc...). It doesn't really add any extra noise to the signal, and it can sound like a vintage wah (Hendrix-type), or like a modern wah sound (like John Frusciante's wah).

It's perfect for funk and rock, and for blues it sounds great. It has a better sweep and is cheaper than any other wah I've tried (and I've tried all the dunlops, a vox, and the danelectro one), and was also a lot cheaper.
It sounds wonderful with a distortion/overdrive pedal in front of it (like my Boss OD-2R), and it's sweet on the clean channel too. I'm very happy with it, and I would certainly buy it again.

I just bought an Ibanez JS100 today as well as this pedal because it was recommended by the music shop. Worst mistake of my life. It sounds NOTHING like the wah in the Joe Satriani song "Love Thing" - not even close. I told the shop owner that I had #90-#100 to spend on a Wah pedal - and I was after a nice sounding, expressionate one.

Like some 99% of all guitar players my main styles are rock, blues and pop. Think Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Moore and a little Satriani. I've been playing for 12 years now. Besides the Morley I use a Boss DD5 delay, a Boss CE5 chorus, a Boss BF2 flanger, a Boss BD2 overdrive and a Boss GE7 equalizer. My guitar is a lefthanded Charvel 475, my amp a Carvin MTS3210 combo. The Morley doesn't do the job. It lacks the deep, sharp wah sound you can get from a Cry Baby or Vox. So if it got stolen, I wouldn't buy another Morley. I think I'd go for something else.

At some settings, very nice, but not a very 'vocal'-sounding wah. Works great on a clean setting, but not too good with distortion, and horrible with low notes. Anything on the two bottom strings suck. Needs more of bass-y sound at the nadir of the pedal. A Crybaby pushed to the front sounds like this Morely pushed to the absolute middle. A crazy, sustaining, harmonic tone can be found when the wah is pushed almost the whole way back. The wah will also make it quite easy to get feedback.

Who cares about what setup I have? This pedal is a big piece of shit. Man, was I ever stooped into buying this. It was in my more inexperienced guitar shopping days. It was a wah pedal, it sounded really cool (because it was the first one I tried out). The sound that comes out of this is very weak. It's not even really a wah. It goes wah, but it doesn't. It sounds more like the noise a flanger makes.

It's a shitty position to place a switch for a wah. Going into solos I occasionally almost break my ankle trying to switch to wah...
What function does the level knob have? I've turned it hundred times around, but the sound hardly changes, maybe thats because I play in combination with the Zoom 505...
Sound Quality
:

My setup is: Fender Strat into a ZOOM 505 into the Morley into a Marshall 8040 Valvestate 40V. With some effects on the Zoom, you hardly hear the wah, with other effects there's too much wah. (Switching the setup changes, but that takes too much time on stage).
As a volume-pedal it's too sensitive, as a clean pedal(volume at the top) it's nice, as a wah with a clean effect on my 505 it sucks 'cause the wah brings distortion with it.
It has a great range, larger than a Vox or Dunlop.

It's reliable, but I wouldn't go on stage without a distortion pedal (but that's just a taste of style, I don't like solos without distortion).

I've been playing for 5 years now, this is my first wah, it's pretty good although I don't use it very often. I love the range, I hate the freaking knob, I like the design; it looks solid and stable. I wish it would have had a fuzz or distortion mode, but then I should have bought another one, I know.

Yes, indeed when you turn it on, it does add more treble to the sound. If you want the perfect sounds, you have to keep the pedal on all the time and then adjust your bass/mid/treble settings.. but as for the actual sound quality, it's hard for me to say, because I have a small Yamaha amp which is not good either in sound quality, so I don't know how much the Morley wah makes any difference to it :)

Well. I've been using this one for some months now, and I've noticed a few problems. First of all, after just a few weeks the pedal mechanism started to squeek like hell .. have to grease it with cooking or gun oil, every now and then. And, the rubber pedal holders which are glued to the bottom of the pedal have fallen off.. not very nice if you have a wooden floor..:/
But technically, it's quite reliable. I've still hadn't have any technical problems with it altough I've greased it a lot.. :) After all it's a heavy pedal and it feels very "stable" (well, if the rubber holders had sticked to the pedal..).

I give it a 7. I play with Epiphone's Les Paul Custom and mostly psychedelic rock, like Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Kingston Wall, Pink Floyd etc so I can get some pretty nice underwater sounds with the pedal (and even better if you add a delay effect into the sound too).
Maybe I have just gotten used to it's sound but I'm satisfied with it. No need to complain.
But unfortunately if you want the "Voodoo Chile" kind of wah sound, this might not be the pedal for you. Somehow the wah sound that the Morley pedal produces is different.. maybe that's why some hate it. It's a bit more "90's" sound after all (yeh, maybe it'll sound better with a tube amp :)) and I think it was designed for hard rock/heavy players.. A good idea would be to try it before you buy it.. compare it with Vox or something and make your decision. After all, this wah is something different.

I play an Ibanez which sounds great through my amp (Laney LC-15R) and my awesome distortion pedal (Boogie V-Twin). However, the wah absolutely . . . beware, incoming cliche . . . SUCKS TONE! The wah effect sound itself is just fine, but plugging my guitar into it changes the basic tone so much I almost have to make sure I'm playing the same instrument!
My amp has a very bright, clean Fender-like sound, which completely disappears when I play through the wah. It becomes very flat and lifeless and loses all the dynamics. It's almost like running a cheap compressor and having an EQ in the loop with the bass emphasized and the treble almost shut off.
After a few weeks of trying everything I quit using it. I hate to spend the kind of money required for a wah with true bypass (like a Fulltone), but I may have to if I want a wah I can really enjoy using.
Maybe if you play with heavy distortion you'll have better luck.

I run a Epiphone LP through a Mesa Dual rectifier. This pedal was the worst rip off I ever bought. I'm just glad I bought it before I really knew what I was doing, or I'd really be embarrassed for getting. The only time this wah would be good is if you wanted you wah to go "wish-wish." I bought an original crybaby recently. 400% better than the Morely.

c'mon, it's a wah, if you can't figure it out...
i think it's an old/discontinued model (i think it first came out in '93). i don't like the way it's horizontal when on the bass end (heel) and then on the treble (toe) end you press further down (so that the toe is lower than the heel). to fix that i simply proped it up against the edge of my effects board. i also put a foam or rubber ball in between the pedal and the chassis becuase the treble is a bit harsh and also so that i have some "spring action"

i play a piece of shit yamaha strat (eg112-6 months old and already has cracks on the finish and 2 pickups are not functional-go figure) -> boss compression/sustainer -> dod overdrive/preamp 250 -> dod sustainer -> morley wah -> dod delay -> dod chorus-> (1) shitty yamaha combo amp 8" 10 watt (2) microsoft digital 80 computer speakers (satellite and subwoofer system, it actually sounds better than the guitar amp) the level control doesn't have much effect. it's not particularly noisy and any hissing noise sounds like wind (like in the first part of call of ktulu). on my setup it sounds really harsh on the treble. i think that it's a combination of my distortion pedals (which add too much fuzz) and my amps sucking. you have to turn it on with a switch on the top of the chassis at the lower right side which isn't horrible for me and since this is my first wah i dont have to adapt to it like crybaby users do. i wish that it had a little more midrange honk. it works fairly well with distortion but you cant quite capture the guitar on say bulls on parade (but i'm no tom morello...)

i like to play all sorts of rock (alt, hard, classic, metal, etc.), blues. my fave bands are the smashing pumpkins, metallica, ratm and so it's a pretty good match. i've been playing for over a year now, in addition to the gear i mentioned in also have a yamaha acoustic. if it was stolen i would be pissed and i'd get that shit yamaha and break it over the dood's head, hopefully i could break both head and guitar. since this was kind of a one time deal at guitar center i doubt i can find it again. if it got stolden i'd consider vai's bad horsie also by morley. i didn't really bother to compare it with other wahs b/c this wah was 40 bucks, others are usually double. i'm quite happy with it and i hope it'll hold up for a while, which it seems very capable of doing.

Very easy to use - just turn it on and go! On/Off switch next to pedal instead of under it which I prefer but some dont. Has level control which doesnt have enough range but its alright.
Uses optic sensor (instead of a pot) and has true bypass circitry.

I use a mexi standard fender strat into a Laney Tube fusion. Sound is very different to Cry baby. It seems to say "Wee Wee" instead of "wah wah" (sought of!). Not an instantly brilliant sound but once u get used to it, its quiet good. Is best to sit mainly on the back end of it. It squeals a lot when pushed all the way forward (not good on the ear drums!). Its also a very loud peddle and even though it has a level control u cant turn it down (only up!). Not a great peddle for clean funk but sounds good for a high gain lead sound. Thats a good thing for me cause I mainly play 80s style hard rock/shread (Vai, Satch, Van halen). The only better sounding peddle (that Ive played) is the Cry Baby 535q but thats a heap dearer!

I been playing for about 3 years now and as ive said I mainly play shread and for a High gain sound this is very good. If u mainly play clean I would probably look else where. If u are a traditionalist then also look else where. When shoping for a wah I was mainly looking for true bypass circitry (It doesnt make any noise by the way!) and optic sensor instead of a pot. I compared this to a Cry baby standard (doesnt have true bypass and uses a pot), George Denise switchable (sounds a bit crappy distorted) and CB 535q. The 535q sounded better as I said but is to expensive for a cheap skate like me! I also got this for $140 (AU) which is $60 (AU) off! If it broke or was stolen I would only buy it again if I could get it for the same price. Otherwise Id save my dosh and get a CB 535q or have a look at a bad Horsie (cause Im lazy and dont like having to change pots!)

My setup is:
Fender American Hardtail Strat loaded with seymour duncan rail pickups (hotrail in the bridge, cool rail in the center, vintage rail in the neck) into a Boss LS-2 Line Selector seperating a shlew of like 12 other Boss pedals into a Mashall MG15-MS ministack (a kick ass little amp). The amp has no effects loop, but the LS-2 line selector has two, I tried putting the wah in every possible place of my pedal chain, in both loops (one's clean, and one's for distorted effects), even tried putting it straight into my amp. The pedal in my *opinion* is too quick, too weak, and it added dstortion to my clean channel. You step on it, the wah doesn't go all the way the length of the pedal stroke, you miss the whole sound if ya step it too quick, the wah (when ya do hear it) is too nasily and weak, and when ya push the pedal past the wah, opens up a static sound. the only thing I liked about it was it gave my overdrive more of a metallic tightened sound, but the whole point of the pedal was for wah...and it does a shitty job in that category. I bought this pedal without trying it out...like a stupid ass would...I bought it on the name. In my opinion...get a dunlop...I'm much happier with my dunlop 535Q wah...the morley makes an excellent doorstop or perhaps a paperweight.

Easy enough to use. on/off switch is next to pedal, not under it, so it's a little tricky to hit i-but a lot of other wahs criticized hard to turn on/off when placed under the pedal....so...you choose.
manual is minimal.
it also has a level knob - for the wah output. this allows you to adjust the wah output to match the clean level.

i'm using the PWA II with a US-made Squier Strat (circa 1990) and a (circa 1989) Fender 65W solid-state. i also use a bunch of other pedals, mostly Boss. All my pedals are in the amps fx loop, except the wah which goes up front. [guitar-to-wah-to-amp]
the wah sound is good with clean or (amp) overdrive; but it loses a lot when i combine it with my Boss DS1 distortion. i played with different configurations-but nothing solved it.
the PWA II is not noisy in itself. it does get very trebly with the pedal pushed way down, but has a nice mellow, bassy sound in the pedal way up or mid position. with the optic control, the pedal is rather sensitive..little movement can produce a quick wah (some may find this annoying, some desirable).
one of the main sounds i was trying to reproduce was the wah/DS-1 Joe Satraini sound (a la Crystal Planet) - but can't do it. think he uses a Dunlop Crybaby 535Q.

i got this on sale (new) from Daddys Music. couldn't pass up the bargain. it lists for like $145 - often goes for ~$100 or more in stores. since i'm on a limited budget, i went for it. this price was even cheaper than used Crybaby's or Vox.
i was real tempted to return it, but decided for the price, to keep it for now. it'll do for some time to come. i'm hobby playing, no gigs, so its not that critical.
if it were stolen or if i came into some $, i'd look into Dunlop or Vox.
i never played a wah before this, annd didn't compare to the other wahs, so i can't make a comparison. i've been playing guitar off & on for over 25 yrs.
i wouldn't recommend it for serious gig or recording players (unless you don't use heavy distortion); more for lower budget hobby players like me.
