A good thing going for it is that you can turn it on without having to always be in the toe-down position. It might take some getting used to, but I like the side button over the push the wah all the way down real hard technique.

10 I use a les paul vintage mahogany or an sg special through a peavey valveking 112. The morley is awesome and totally unique. The pedal has a ridiculously wide sweep so that you can modify what type of wah sound you want by not utilizing the full sweep. Also it is very clear and not noisy. I still like crybabies, but this does not ruin your tone.

DO NOT use the wrong power supply like I did. I had to resolder a new operational amplifier. So it really is higher than an "8" I just thought I'd defuse some of my stupidity. Really though, it is built extremely durable.

I play hard rock; this wah is great! At least for the price you can't go wrong, and I prefer it over my crybaby easily. Putting the wah level at 12 o'clock or slightly above suits me fine. It is not a perfect creation but it's the best wah I have encountered. If I ever lost it, I would probably get a mark tremonti wah. I know that Morley makes awesome stuff, and the Mark I sounds good on their website. It probably is better than this wah, while being a bit siimlar too.

This is a follow up review from my last review of this on 12/04/2001. It is much easier to get a good sound out of this than a Crybaby or something crappy like that, but as I stated in my last review you have to find the right "sweet spot" and rock the pedal around that instead of just going full forward and back. I really love the switch not being under the pedal. It just makes much more sense. That way you can turn it on in mid sweep and you don't instantly get this nasaly "what the hell" tone when it is turn on. The volume control is nice and it is easily controllable with your foot.

They need to quit asking that same question in this category "can you get the sound of your favorite artists?" I mean come on I am no copycat, and if YOU want to be this isn't the wah for you. But if you like great, unique, interesting tone it is the best wah there is. I love funk music, and what I play I like to call Funk Metal. You can get pretty close to the sound of a Q-tron + with this thing if you mute the notes just right and rock the pedal just right. You can make wah and other sounds that other wah pedals just dream of. I would like to get another Q-tron to keep (instead of selling on eBay like I do all the time) or maybe a DOD envelope filter to play along with it. Who knows what you could create with two filters going at once- especially ones as interesting as these. One thing that I think rocks is if you reverse the sweep. Rock the pedal down when you strike the note instead of up I guess that would be a AHW LOL. Just makes a very interesting sound. For the uniqueness of it, it deserves a 10. You can also aproximate a VOX sound with it, if you are careful with the pedal. It just takes some time to figure it out that's why It only got an 8 in the ease of use category, but for the sound category it deserves a 10 for sure.

Well it is a pedal that I have had for many years. I don't gig, but I have been stepping on this thing since at least the year 2000 I can't complain. There is no pot to get scratchy so that helps. The crybaby that I had that sucked, didn't exactly work all the time when I bought it brand new. That and the crappy tone is why I traded it for this one. Thank GOD the crybaby worked for those few minutes that I was doing the exchange. NEVER any problems at all with this one though. Oh, and you never have to worry about it doubling as a radio to-crybaby owners will know what I mean.

I don't understand how anyone can give them any less than 10. They give you FREE PARTS PEOPLE, just try not to take advantage of them, only ask for what you need. On top of this they answer emails promptly and everything much better than the other guys. Bill Wenzloff is the man he has been with the company since the early 80's. One time I emailed him to ask him a couple of general history questions and he gave a prompt reply within hours. See, my PWA has red Morley lettering, while others seem to have white, I just had to ask him what was up with that. The way he explained it is that the older (pre '95 I think) PWA's have the red, and the newer, but recently discontinued ones have white. He said that the tone should be similar, but I noticed that he didn't say the same. I would be interested to try out a white one just to see if there is a difference.
Another time I e-mailed them to ask how to modify the sweep on this pedal. There is a way to do it, and I suggest that you e-mail them for it to get it right.

This deserves no less than a 10. This wah could almost be used as an instrument in and of itself. The other products that I considered (or have owned) that are similar include the Dunlop Crybaby that I traded for it straight up-couldn't have got a better deal, I basically stole the MORLEY- and a Q-tron that is nice, but not as diverse, and I couldn't resist selling for $140 for the pocket change that I bought it for. I would also like to try out a DOD Fx-15 wah volume I hear that they are extremely unique also. This wah is right up there with the rest of them if not far above. Morley's current lineup is just as good I am sure. I don't think that it would be possible for them to make bad pedals. Now if only I could get them to bring back the ACV so I don't have to spend $200 on eBay for one. Oh, and by the way, these wahs are only like $20-$30 on eBay and a much much MUCH better deal than a Dunlop Crybaby that goes for about the same price. Fantastic Value for sure

Mine is '92 model, made in the USA.
Just a wha... This one is easier than many, because it is heavy, very large adn has a separate on/off switch. The 'level' button adjusts the volume when the wha is on, a vey good tool

This pedal is very very sensitive to the hardware. The circuitry doesn't use any inductance (no red or white fasel or anything...), just resitors and capacitors and an integrated circuit. Indeed, I think it acts as a "oha" pedal, rather than a "wha". It lack bass response, while the high end is very strong.
But this also give it a strong personality. After a few testings, and depending on your hardware (single coils or humbuckers ? neck or bridge ?) you can get a sound - or not. I played it on a marshall MG15DFX (transistors, integrated effects, I like it a lot for jaming alone) and a peavey classic 50-410, full tubes 4x10" speakers. Using the same guitar and no extra hardware this pedal always sounds good on the peavey and "not so good" on the marshall, due to its bass lack. I guess this is because the marshall itself lacks bass response during the 'w' phase of the 'wha' cycle.
Finaly PWA "pro" series means "pro" sound on "pro" hardware with a "pro" player ? There I would agree !! :o)
Anyway, regarding the sound when played on a good amp using the right guitar (humbuckers for riff of singles for funky) it sounds so good. This is why I give it a 10, the overall sound is creative an unique - any "pro" should like that. You will never get that sound from a Dunlop or a Vox, excepted maybe the 535Q.

Morley shows the circuitry online, this seems incredible so I guess they are very open minded. Doesn't bring anything to us guitar players, excepted maybe the feeling that they believe in their products.

I have said so good things that I can't tell more. Here below is a link (in french - sorry but I'm french) which explains 2 mods - (please Harmony Central moderator keep this link active, it's a good value for PWA owners). The first mod is used to reduce the pedal range (in order to lower that high end response, and also adapt it to a bass guitar).
The second mod is intended to change the overall frequency response, in order to get a "fat" wha sound. It use an optional switch on the pedal, to choose between "fat" and "standard".
I DID NOT YET TRY ANY OF THOSE MODS - but I will.
Finally I give it a 10 beacause I like its look, the way it sings and also - overall - the sound I get with the right hardware and the right playing.

I play a '96 american strat to an Ibanez tube screamer, P.O.S rocktek delay unit, Boss Bf-2, and a 120 watt crate amp. The Pedal fit right in my set-up, and off the bat sounded great. I initially went in to the guitar shop to pick up a crybaby, and tested a few, i liked the sound of them, but i was looking for a crisper, cleaner, wah sound, and the tech brought out some morleys. I wouldnt really use this pedal to reproduce the sounds of jimi, or srv, but it can do things most wahs cant. I like to play a lot of 311, dispatch, grateful dead, phish, and this pedal nails their sounds.

It was great on clean sounds when I first got it, but as many here say, the effect disappeared with high gain. I have one of the highest gained pedals on the market (Boss MT-2 Metal Zone), and I can still get a GREAT distorted wah out of it. It's all in the EQ. My setup is Epi SG---> Wah---> Boss MT-2 Distortion---> Boss CE-2 Chorus---> Boss DS-1 Distortion---> Fender Stage 112SE. The only reason I give it a 9 instead of a 10 is b/c I had to mod the pedal to get the sweep I wanted.

ok here's the thing, and it goes for ALL morley pedals. No matter what you get from morley (wah pedals), you can always send it to their tech to have them adjust it to ANY sound you wish it to have at NO cost other than the shipping. Their customer service is THAT good. I have a NSW and a few others. ALL are adjusted to EXACTLY how i want it. That is plain AWESOME. For this reason alone, no one should criticize morley's tone. If you just take some trouble to send it up or have them teach you how to adjust it, a morley wah can do anything you ask it.

I'm using it with a a Jackson Dx10D with stock pickups into a Crate solidstate amplifier. It is noisy in wide open position. It's a bit weak pedal, but it's a part of my sound and sounds perfect to me.
I've heard alot of guitar folk who hate the pedal and I'm not suprised because it has alot of teble and a small mid sweep sweet spot, but if you're like me and want cut from their tone, mettalic sounds, bulletproof consruction, and a dandy price to boot, then I think this baby's for you.

I play Crude Speed Rock (live hard rock performance inspired by thrash that comes off oddly as punk). The pedal compliments my sound because I have a rather bright tone and love metllic overtones, which the pedal gives me. It's ease of use is a plus, it gives me peace of mind and allows to focus on making music.
I've been playing for 11 years and've had the pedal probably no less than eight. If something bad happened to it, I probably buy the same pedal. I use it for a few of my older tunes and when I require a lead boost.
My fave feature is it's sound. I chose this pedal way back because I didn't know anything about pedals and just liked Morley's logo and bought it on a whim (glad I did). It helps me get a signal enhancement when I do leads sometimes which is what I seem to use it more for these days.
IF you're looking for a wah wah pedal with max treble, ease of use ,ruggedness, and just modern wah tone period (without trying to find tone of the gods), try it in a store, then possibly see if you can gig it then make a judgement call.

I play "stoner-rock" as I mentioned earlier. Kind of a cross between grunge and 311 and any given indie rock band. I haven't even been playing a year. I use a Washburn wg208 guitar into the wah which runs into a DOD classic tube distortion pedal into my zoom 505 into a marshall 10w practice amp. The wah works great for what I play. The only thing I hate about it is it looks like a gas pedal for a school bus. I don't know if I'd replace it if it was stolen as I'd like to try out other wahs to see whats out there. I picked this one because I wanted to try out a wah and it was either pay $40 for this or over $100 for a crybaby. My only wish would be that it wasn't so damn large.

I am using an Explorer through an Ibanez TubeScreamer => Morley PWA Wah => Ibanez DE-7 Delay/Echo => Ibanez CF-7 Chorus to a Kustom K25-2. I also run it through a Fender Twin Reverb as well. It sounds very clean and works well with the distortion in front. However there is an annoying high end sound if you go to far. Great sound for the price, but I think it should have a wider sweep and less of a high end. Also will drain the tone when switched off. Still has a very solid sound.

It could use some minor changes with the tone sucking problem, but usually if you have a wah in your chain, you are going to use it. Better sounding on the clean channels. If it was stolen or lost, I would probably get a new one or go with the Pro Series II from Morley. Great Value!

this is easier to use then a dunlop crybaby, u cant accidently "rock" it on, the switch is on the side , it also has a level nob on the other side (effects how much of the wah is blended in with the sound. great easy to use simple little (actually its big for a wah, but not too big) pedal.no patches, got it used, so no manuel, dont need one anyways. u can "upgrade this pedal if u do not like the "sweep" unlike most other pedals because morley uses optical lasers instead of pots. all u do to upgrade it is take off the bottom plate and move the red light inside up or down, changes the "Sweep".

im using an ibanez rg270 to a boss hm-2 heavy metal to this pedal to a peavey bandit, when u get the level too high it seems to get a little bit distorted sounding in a bad way, but as long as ur level on it isnt all the way up then u should be fine. this pedal is liek most wahs, it soudns great with ur tone on ur guitar all the way up, because if its all the way down u wont hear much of a change from high to low, but if u know what ur doin with all ur eq settings then im sure u will know what to do, but it isnt weak like some other people said, u can easily get all those great wah tones, if the stock "sweep" isnt it then go ahead and modify the optical laser till u fine what u like, or mess with ur eq's that realy helps.i give this pedal another 9 because its so versitile

I play any style of music, but mainly rock/metal. It's my first and only wah, and works good for what i need it for (home practice and the ocassional gig). I would probably buy it again if it was lost. Its very straight foreward and simple. I wish it had more sound modification tools, The best feature is the fact there's no pot to get scratchy like the CryBaby i tried out in the store! Good pedal for the money.

Not easy to use. It sounds best through a 3 single coil strat using the neck pickup. Tried regee and Hendrix stuff. It comes close. I think I just don't know how to use it. I have had this pedal for 4 years and havn't used it much. I guess I should try reading the instructions.

Horrible if used on clean settings. Ok with distortion, but it seems to dislike high output humbuckers. I realy doesn't like my Seymor Duncan Ivader. Kirk Hammett and SRV inspired me to buy one. I have yet to cop their sound. I think they use Cry Baby wah's or VOX. Chorus sounds good. I can get a 311 type of tone. Like I said before, I need to learn to use it.

I play everything as far as 80's Metal as well as early to mid 90's grunge and punk and then on to old school punk, ska, 70's rock to KoRn and beyond. I have been playing for 19 years. I have had alot of equipment, but never a wah pedal. I never wanted or needed one until I started playing alot of leads. I have always been a rhythem player and some lead work. Now I can't get away from leads and a wah is esential. After reading these reviews I think I have a better idea about how to use it and will try as soon as I hit the submit tab on this review.

Lemme start by saying this... Guitar Center is great, but not to my dad! God, this is the second time they ripped him off. My dad got an amp for $600, when he could have got it for about $300. And now this wah. They sold it to him for over $100, but now they sell it for $40. OH well, both were worth it. This is easy to get a sound, just rock back and forth. It takes skill for a really nice wah effect though. The manual is good, but you should figure it out by looking at it. I upgraded my unit to make a bigger range. So now it is even better than before.

I use a Gretsch New jet guitar with a PAF in the neck and a Tone Zone in the bridge. It is plugged into this, and then a Metal Zone(MT-2) Boss distrotion, and then my amp(Fender Super 112). I really like this kind of setup, and with my Shure wireless unit, I just run around and have fun. This is really kool for solos and Incubus type sounds. Only noisy when the toe is down and distortion is high. You can get Clapton, Hendrix, all the greats.

Let's see.... I'm gonna drop it outta my window(I live on the second story) of my house and plug it in. Back, yeah it works. It only got a few paint chips, and the input thing is a little loose. Oh well. Oh by the way, the input and output jacks are tight so your cables don't slip out if you step on them, so don't complain about that. This is sturdy steel, and I always use it on gigs.

Bottom Line: This pedal kicks ass. I love a wah that has the switch on the side, so you don't accidently turn it on or off. I've been playing for almost two years, and this is the perfect match of the music I play. I am gonna make music with this, and if it were stolen, i'd be pissed.

This pedal is not the most easy to use pedal in the world. It's not your normal rock and go wah. You can't just rock it full forward, full back and expect that to be a good sound. This pedal is best if you find a good spot and rock just a little bit each way. If you do rock it full forward, full back, it's going to sound like crap. I wish Morley would tell people that that way more people would buy their wahs. You can also change the sweep on it b/c of the electro optical stuff, if you call Morley, they'll tell you how. The level control is great and easily controllable with the foot. The switch on the side is a much better idea than having it on the pedal for someone like me that likes using a wah as a filter sometimes.

My setup is guitar (Washburn BT-3) to DOD Fuzz, to Ibanez powerlead, to Rocktron Rampage, to DOD FX-50 overdrive pre-amp (made in 1977), to DOD FX-10 Bi-Fet pre-amp, to boss HR-2, to Dano Reverb. My amp is a Laney GC-30. Then from the send for the effects loop, I put this awesome wah, and that's it. This thing is the best clean sounding wah I've ever heard. It's also one of the greatest distorted wah's that I've ever heard. For those that think that this sounds week with distortion try putting it after your distortion pedals will you? I used to have a Dunlop crybaby and this thing wipes the floor with it all the way around. This thing has it's own sound. The standard sweep on it is amazing. The way the pedal comes to you is with the sweep as trebly as it can be, but it still gets ballsy heal down (if you wah down there and don't toe it that much as stated before). I made it just a little more bassy, but kept the nasalness of it. I think that I found the right spot when I changed the sweep. This thing sounds much better than a pot wah. The feeback control is amazing with this thing. People say that the Bad Horsie is better, but I don't like the switchless stuff.

According to the date on the circuit board this thing was made in 1997, and it's still rocking 5 years later. I haven't had any problems since I got it a couple of months ago (unlike that fucking Dunlop Crybaby that quit on me after a fucking week, Damn fucking Jim Dunlop, I don't know who you are, but you are very lucky that I don't beleive in the death penalty :-). I take all of my pedals apart almost as soon as I get them, and this one looks like it will be rocking for a long time. The components look very high quality (unlike <caugh> crybaby).

Morley has the best customer support in the business. The guy (sorry man I forgot your name, and I know that you will be reading this) helped me change my wah's sweep and he was really cool. He also explained to me what the Morley was designed to be. I agreed with his statment, "We decided that the last thing the world needed was another Crybaby or Vox knockoff wah, we created our own sound that no other wah has." That pretty much sums it up (that is paraphrased it's not like I wrote the phrase down or anything.)

I play like a blues metal type of music, and I also like to make my own freakish guitar sounds (like Tom Morrello). I also love Nirvana's style of music, and some of my music elude's to Nirvana. The sounds that you can make with this thing are amazing. I have been playing for 2 years and no other wah so far has compared to it. It wipes the floor, the walls, the celings, and the stage with the crybaby. No Dunlop Vox knockoff is going to compare to this pedal. No wah sounds like this. If you like the classic wah sound better, get a Vox the Dunlop won't compare to a Vox either. If someone stole it I would fucking hunt his ass down and them beat him to death with a Dunlop crybaby (wouldn't want to get blood on the Morley would we?) if it didn't fall apart on the ride to his house that is. The best things about this wah are the sound quality, the fact that the switch is on the side instead of under the pedal, the amazing sweep, the volume control that I can use with my foot, and a buttload of more stuff that I will think of later. You can do things with this wah that you could only dream of with any other. (except maybe the Rodger Mayer vision wah, but who in the hell is going to pay $500 for a wah that's ridiculous)

Just want to point out some things i left out in my last review. the pwa's sweep feels much more comfortable than the original crybaby's. The dunlop has a really limited range. its sonic range is more or less the same as the morley, but it's very physically limiting. Also, my experience with the pwa was like this: When put in my signal chain,it sounded very vocal and not very extreme or harsh. the toe up position isn't extremely bassy, and the treble isn't normally too overpowering(depending on your amp settings). When put in the effects loop, however, it has and extremely muddy toe up and a toe down postion that will make your ears bleed. It's definitely a multi personality pedal. If you want vintage or extreme sounds(or both), the pwa is a great choice.

Ibanez RG120 w/super distortion into morley, Digitech RP100, Johnson 25 watt practice amp(solid state). Great sound. Ive never heard a wah that does clean better. People say the effect gets lost with distortion, but i found that boosting the highs on my amp and RP100 made the wah very easy to hear. Igot this pedal because im a hammett freak and people said it comes close to his sound. it does. Very vocal when used with the right settings.

I a/b'd this with a crybaby. No contest. The crybaby had no level control and i hate the toe switch. It wasnt as heavy-duty either. I guess if you can afford it, the bad horsie might be a little better distorted, but there is little lacking here.

OK here goes. When I got this thing it sounded like crap. With the stings muted and rocking it I would get this god awfull woooshing sound. This pedal made some nasty sounds from wooooshing to slidewhitsle to static.I play through a Blues Jr. with a Les Paul copy and a Fender Telecaster. My effects are DOD Mystic Blues and Grunge. The Mystic Blues worked good with the Morley, but with the Grunge it had no effect at all. After reading some of the other posts I decided to tweak the LED inside the unit before I went and ripped the guy a new one for selling it to me.Lo and behold,it is as quite as a church mouse now, sounds excellent, and wahs my grunge pedal great.I would rate the sound a 9.5 to 10 if I didn`t have to tweak the pedal myself or if Morley would publish this info for people. It`s sad I had to find the solution here than from Morley themselves. After reading some of the bad reviews here I wonder if they were suffering from the same problem I was.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard > Morley Wah > Peavey Studio Pro 112. Simple setup, Great sound, perhaps a little less intense sounding than I'd imagined from the Wah but still very good. It sounds close to Kirk Hammet's Wah. Good range but again a bit less than I originaly hoped. The louder you set the volume, the more noise.. but if it's not in use why leave it on?

A good Wah, and for $125 AUS, a great Wah. Much better than others I tested including the crybaby and various wah's on multi-effect boards. One of the reasons I like this Wah so much is it's simplicity and when turned off it doesn't effect the guitar signal at all. The only points lost are for the sound which, as I said earlier, is slightly less intense than I hoped. If I had more cash I'd probably shop around a bit more, test a Vox..ect. But a great Wah for the price.

Just to add to the positive reviews: People often have no idea where a WAH should be in the FX chain. People who say it has no effect when using distorion obviously haven't tried it on the other side of the distorion. IDIOTS. And if that's what you say about this unit, you'd have to say the same about any other WAH because they ALL WORK THE SAME WAY. The Wah pedal is put in front of the OD/Distorion for lighter WAH effect and after it for much greater effect. The best thing about all the Morley pedals, is that they are all QUIET. Most wah pedals add an incredible hiss - Not this one.

Duh...it's a wah...Rock it, get the tone you need. It's a square platform with an easy to use pedal on it. Rock it fowards and it goes "wah"...rock it back and it goes "ow". Has a volume control and an easy-to-see LED above the on/off toggle button. When I got it, it was larger than I expected. But that's not a bad thing. It's just me.

I play an Ibanez Ex140, or a Les Paul style with retrofitted pickups into a Crate GFX 65 and I sometimes add my DOD overdrive in the mix. Sometimes I mix the built in effects with the wah. First of all, let me say that the bad reviews in this section to me seem very ignorant. Almost any wah is gonna get trebly and cheesy sounding if you rock full fowards. Mess with the EQ, mess the the Wah level control, and just barely rock that sucker and you get plenty of wah...rock it lightly and it's more low end sounding, rock it further down and it gets more nasal...and I dont know what people are talking about saying it has no effect on distortion. When I first pulled it out of the box I was suprised how much effect it DID have...just keep a fresh battery in it and it'll wah like a cat in labor.
The sound is good. I just sit up in my room for hours playing solos with it... I love this thing!! One thing I did notice right off is that it seemed to favor my Les Paul style...especially in the treble position when I would switch it to high gain. The wah is especially prevalent in the high gain when I scoop out the mids. Sweet tone! I can make my solos get that "extra wail" that I'm looking for with this wah. Then gradually fully press it and you get kind of phasey flangy sound. The really high-fret-high-end soloing doesn't show the wah as much...but you have to be pretty high on the frets for that to happen. This thing can get a good sound from blues to metal. Light Distortion sounds very classic Rockish with the wah. Clean sounds like funk/R&B/Disco. All sounds are very good.

It does everything I would want from a wah. It's great. I messed with it, tried different guitars and it's still got a great tone. If it were stolen, I'd hunt down the theif, then use it as an excuse to save up for a crybaby 535Q.
Not because this is in any way a bad pedal...but because the 535Q has the "Q" dial, and I can get an even wider range of tones. This thing DEFINITELY helps make music. If you're thinking of buying this thing, do it..I don't think you'll be dissappointed.I got it from musician's friend for just 60 bucks. Great price, great sound...what more can you ask for? The only other thing I'm looking to get is a new guitar. ;)

it is easy to use. what can i say? it's a wah-wah pedal! rock it forward, get a treble-y sound, rock it back, get a sweet deep sound:) rock it back and forth, oh yeah, wah baby.... but for real, this is an easy pedal to use. when you want to switch off, just click the button on the side. i think it has a good bypass, which i think is good.

I use a cheap amp, which incidentally came out to be pretty good. i use also a korg ax1, which i think is awesome. i put the wah first, then the korg, then the amp, either through the effects loop or directly into the input in front. i prefer the effects loop. um, you get noise, but if you put your hand gently on the strings, the noise stops. umm, just don't play too close to the amp. but this is a norm for any type of amp you play. actually, the noise that is produced by the pedal is good because if you want to control feedback(a la hendrix) the wah will be a good controller to that. so i really like it. plus, the wah sound is real smooth. just tones down and up, like a wah should:) umm, to get the sounds of your favorite artist, just fiddle with the dials of your amp. i think most people think that any product is bad because you don't fiddle with the EQ of your amp! you have to do this to get that sound you like. for example, i wanted to get this satriani wah sound that you hear on crystal planet, track 8, all you have to do is set the high on about six, the mid on seven point five, and the low on 10, if you have a presence, put it on 9, and guess what? pretty damn close to the satriani wah i like so much:) so fiddle with your amp a bit. a wah is only a tone control that quickly moves that tone knob up and down quickly... the amount of wah you want is dictated really by what you put around it. so, in summary, this wah has a real good sound. very clear. real nice. no garbage coming out of your amp.

Easy to operate, like every other wahs on this planet... Switch it on and rock... there is a level knob that controls the level of the effect (it's a usefull and interesting feature...). If you want to get a good sound out of it, tought, you might have to mess with the optical detector's position (or something like that...) like i had to... Doing this, this ok sounding effect turned into the greatest wah on earth... (for bass anyways...).

I use this with a Fender American standard Strat into either a Marshall JTM 30 or a Marshall JMP 50. It works better with the JTM 30, although the sound quality is still not great. It can be slightly noisy when the effect is on but it is acceptable. The main problem I find is that it has quite a narrow sweep even with the level control turned up full. It works O.K. with a clean sound but with distortion it does not manage to have as much affect over the sound as, for example, a cry baby (which is what I now use).

I use two fender telecasters both loaded with duncan humbuckers in both positions one with a jb in the bridge and a 59 in the neck and the other with a hot rail in the bridge and a jazz in the neck, both can be tapped to get all possible combinations. i play through an ampeg ss150 head a marshall 1960 cab, and a home built cab with celestions in it, as well as a peavey duece combo and a bandit. this thing makes tons of noise, mine may be defective, but when ever i lose volume before it in my chain: ie: turn down guitar volume or volume pedal, it makes a terrible racket on or off, the noise stops when it is turned on and off again. It totally cuts the tone right out of my rig when its on. It may be deffective, but i know it sucks.

Very weak, Sounds close to Kirk Hammit's custom wah. Noticed alot of distortion when used in effects chain. I used it with a custon "EVH Frankenstein" a Boss BF-2, a Boss DS-1, MXR phaser, Boss CE-2 run into a Peavey 5150 combo. Seemed to work well with clean chorus but very poor with the distortion.

The pedal itself has a nice big sweep, so it's really easy to control. There's one knob to control the amount of effect. The only down is the switch on the side, so it's inconvenient to turn on and off in the middle of a solo.

I originall played it through
Wah >> DOD Grunge >> Peavey Classic 210
Let me tell you, it's like you have no Wah pedal at all. After I sold the whole setup and bought a Randall RG200, it sounds great. It's a smooth wah, and it doesn't bite or pierce and hurt your hears, and the control is superb. Basically, this wah HATES the DOD grunge and other extreme fuzz pedals. It sounds awesome with natural amp distortion or clean.

Basic Wah effect. I've read a lot of reviews on this site on the "Light Optics Vs Pot" debate. Personally, I don't really care what allegedley sounds better, just like the "valve vs diode" for amps ( I personally prefer all valve, but own a hybrid coz it suits those darker tones). Jim Martin uses a Morley, 'nuff said. No really, the best thing about this is the Level setting, allowing you to control the sweep the Wah effect has. Go from Oasis at minimal settings to all out Steve Vai at full tilt. No noise in Bypass mode (one of the few manufacturers that actually live up to the true bypas monicker)

Very easy to use. No manual with mine (secondhand), I haven't had any trouble with the switch or the action of the wah, it is all smooth and nice. Custom fretless bass -> MXR Blue Box -> Big Muff Pi -> Cheap Chorus -> Morley PWA Wah -> Trace Elliot AH250 head -> Custom 2x12 200w cab.
I am very impressed with the bottom end of this pedal. Most wahs cut the bottom end and they sound "quacky" for bass, for example most crybaby/hendrix wahs. This wah is silky smooth, the main reason for me buying it was the optical action. The sound quality is great with just the right sweep, although there is a slight lack of treble at the top which could be fixed by moving the LED inside the thing to allow more light through. I tried this and it made a slight difference. This wah has a unique type of growl to it as well, and it really brings out the fretless sound. As I have shown, I use the wah after all other effects, using either distortion produces a more synthy sound, with really pronounced vowelling, quite nice, and I thought the chorus would be better after the wah but it isn't. This wah does have a modern sound but then again I don't think I would want to sound livke everyone else, and its not as if someone is going to come up to me during/after a gig and tell me my wah sucks.
I would definitely recommend this for bass. I take one mark off because it doesn't quite have a super bite to it, but as I said, this is a stepping stone for me.

This pedal is not quite as intuitive as a Crybaby because you need to set the "level" knob to the right wah level. Many would say that having the switch on the side is annoying, but that's why I bought this thing, because there's no way to accidentally turn it off or on, and the sweep just feels good; different from a Crybaby, but only like how a Mercedez and a Jaguar drive differently. The battery compartment is very easy to get at, no screwing involved. You don't need to move your foot as far to get nice sounds, which is a good thing for some and not for others. This pedal, just like a crybaby or a vox, needs getting used to. To me it feels just right and I love it, but that's just because I've been playing with it.

I use this with my Korean 3-single coil pickup strat copy into a 15-watt practice amp with reverb. The pedal's switching is kinda noisy when you switch it on with the toe down, makes a pop, big deal, don't do it with the pedal down. This is an optic wah, so it always sounds very clean and will NEVER get scratchy or need to have a pot replaced, so it sounds very precise; therefore not identical to the wahs that EC and Jimi used, but same effect anyways, just cleaner sounding. Sounds great playing their blues solos. Placed before an overdrive pedal or the amp's overdrive circuit it sounds nice and creamy, and after any crunch effect it's really strong and computery, Steve Vai kind of thing. Have used this with a keyboard before, sounds nice. The wah level control lets you make the "toe-down" treble sound louder without really affecting the sound of the "heel-down" sound so that opens up some options so it doesn't just sound like a crybaby. Sounds very funky and clean porno-style into the clean channel, SHAFT. Many will say that this pedal's wah is almost killed by a really harsh distortion placed afterwards, but that's how wah works, there's no getting around that. It's great for lead work, not only wah solos but carefully controlling the tone through a passage, also accentuates the right part of the tone and brings out feedback when you want it, so you can dial into the right tone. If you have an optic wah, open yours up and plug it in, look inside at how it works, it's interesting.

I play blues rock and the odd bit of harder stuff, and this pedal is great for all of that. Overall this is one of THE great wah pedals of all time, there's the Vox, the Crybaby, and the Morley. It's the original photosensor wah, you won't be disappointed unless you've been playing crybabies forever, which most people have. It's NOT the same as a Crybaby, it can sound more or less the same, but it doesn't, it sounds like a Morley. Any wah pedal can be inspiring when it comes to making cool music, and this one is really good-sounding. As for where it switches on and off, if you're used to a crybaby, this will feel WEIRD. But if you're not, like me, it's totally natural and doesn't get in the way. You really have to do an A/B test with a crybaby to make your own decision, but I can promise you after owning one for a few years that if you choose the Morley you won't be sorry. By the way for those who like the sound but are ticked off by where the switch is, there are people who can move the switch for you, and even better, Morley makes a version with the switch in the normal wah place.

The reason I bought this wah was because it is so smooth- with most of the crybabies and such, you could push the thing halfway through it's range of motion before the sound started to change, then it happened all at once and the rest of the range of motion was dead again. Not so here- my foot isn't so agile, and I needed one to be smooth. This is it. One point taken away for the funky way you have to engage it (button on the side). It eliminates the accidental turn-off if you really wank it, though.

I like this pedal, especially because it uses an optical sensor (LED/LDR) and it will never get a scratchy sound. The big drawback is having the on/bypass switch outside the pedal instead of under it. I removed the battery compartment, drilled a hole under the pedal, lengthened the hook up wires, and mounted the switch under the pedal. I run it on a plug-in 9 volt transformer. I like the "level" knob feature. As designed, I don't rate it highly in this catagory. Placing the on/bypass switch where they did is just bad design. But once you mount the switch under the pedal, I give it a 10.

Sound quality is very good. The sweep is different than a Crybaby, but you adapt to it. I use it with Strats and a Ric 330 through a Fender BFDR-RI and Ampegs (VT-40 & GU-12). I'm using a Kingsound strat copy and a 15w amp. Other effects include two Boss pedals (OD-2R and MT-2) and a Zoom 505. I always use the PWA as the first effect in the FX row. Sound is really good, and there is no noise etc. The level control has not got a big range (not very much difference between min and max). I usually keep it slightly above mid (one o'clock). Most sounds are OK, but the wah effect gets weaker when using really fat, heavy, grungy or noisy distortions on the MT-2 or the 505. Using it with the OD-2R is really cool.

I give the Morley PWA Pro series wah-wah a low rating for "Ease OF Use" because I've never experienced a wah pedal that had to be pushed PARALLEL to the floor to make it work! What is this? It make playing the wah TOTALLY UNCOMFORTABLE! It hurt my ankle just pushing the pedal down that far! An effect SHOULD NOT be uncomfortable to use!!! Ridiculous. (Sorry for being so harsh, but it's true)
It also has a "Volume" knob that controls the volume of the wah. That is a handy feature but other wahs that I've used have a set level still sound "right" to me.
Sound Quality
:
5
The sound of the Morley was "HIFI" - it was very clear and pronounced, but also sterile-sounding to me. It reminded me a lot of Kirk Hammett's (Metallica)wah-wah sound which I can't stand!!! I MUCH prefer a Dunlop GCB-95 Crybaby or the Vox V-847 re-issue. (Which is my current wah pedal) The overall sound quality just isn't "my taste."
Reliability
:

The "Reliability" section is probably where Morley does the best. ALL Morley wahs I know of use an optical sensor which allows the wah to be used without ever wearing out or making scratchy noises compared to standard pots. Definately a cool feature. I don't know how the pedal itself will hold up over time. I owned the Morley for about a week and then returned it because I thought I could replace my Dunlop Crybaby (GCB-95) and never have the pot wear out was a bonus. Big mistake.

Overall, I think Morley has a good product even though I don't find this wah appealing to ME. I think it's very versatile to have a wah that doesn't wear out & get scratchy and that you have control over the volume - very handy. This is obviously a "modern" sounding wah, but it just doesn't have "THE TONE." Also, other Morley wahs come with cool features like using the wah as a volume pedal or distortion pedal. I think that's pretty unique for a wah.
I was disappointed by the tone of the Morley and the fact that you have to push the pedal down parallel to the floor as I mentioned earlier - it's insane. A major "defect." I would NEVER buy another Morley wah. (Or even Dunlop for that matter.) I have owned the Morley, 2 Dunlop Crybabys (GCB-95), and the Vox V-847 re-issue. The Vox blows the others away. It has THE TONE, it has the feel, is comfortable to click on & off compared to the other wahs, and it even has the "classic look". (Although that doesn't matter to me at all if it didn't have THE TONE.) I will only continue to use a wah that sounds as good as the Vox or better. I hear the Fulltone "Clyde" wah pedal is great. I plan on placing a Fulltone "Clyde" pot into my Vox. It lasts longer than a standard pot. The "Clyde" is expensive though - here in Canada I'm sure it's around $400 - $500. I don't see myself paying that much for a wah unless I got it for cheaper or won the lottery. :)
