one button switches from wah to volume, the other engages the fuzz. Ka duh. optical sensor means no bad pots. fuzz increases as you toe in. the wah goes well below guitar range, but thats easily dealt with. I use a true bypass looper (keeley) and turn it on with that. many complain about how from swithching from full volume you must begin with retarded high wah, use a true bypass and both this and the tone sucking (when off) are not a problem, you can set the wah to a nice starting point and engage there with the switch.

Moog Theremin and powerhouse strat, BOSS giga delay, keeley RAT, Boss DS1, Big muff Pi(USA), Morley PWF, Boss DD6, Blackface fender bassman. this pedal respond differently but well with all of these for wah. The fuzz is harsh and assey. my trick? turn the intensity way down and use a big muff, sustain half up before it to fill it out. sounds like "spirit in the sky". wah and volume is way too noisy. to tell the truth, I should have gone for the non fuzz, but the fuzz DOES sound awesome on its own with the theremin and other synth instruments.

it's a freakin' tank man. Just look at it. I had to re tape the hood over the light sensors, and the screws need tightening often. replace the nuts with the kind that have little rubber things to keep it tight and you're solid.

I play 70's rock and noise and this pedal has become indespensible. get used to the curve of the wah and you can wail all day. this is a great pedal if you're willing to tinker with your setup and make the fuzz workable.

This unit is so easy to use. You can always get a good sound out of it. I use it with my bass, as I am a HUGE MetallicA fan. There is a manual for it as well as a price list available at morleypedals.com. I have found the manual for it helpful because of the troubleshooting guide for it as well as the standard mantennance for it. I have collected many of these pedals, and I now use nothing but a morley. The pedal uses a little light buld, no pots to replace. You get a better range and sound because of this. I say that the bulb needs to be changed around every 2 or 3 years. They last forever. You of course will have to tweak your fuzz sound to your liking. Even the fuzz sounds good. The volume funtion of it is the best I have ever heard. You can't go wrong with this pedal. I would also like to add that Cliff Burton did not use a Power Wah Boost. He used a Power Wah Fuzz. Jason Newsted uses a Power Wah Boost. And the last thing it has a on off switch to use it make shure it is on or you won't get any sound to come through

I have a '75 perscion, an Ibanez ergodyne 650, an '85 ibanez roadstar, and a spector euro. I play through an ampeg SVT. The pedal isn't noisy at all. The effects on this pedal and all my other effects come through the mix just fine, they always sound great. I use it with my ampeg like I said before. To get the exact Burton sound I use an Electro Harmonix Holy Grail.

I have spoken with Morley many times. They always take my call, are always very friendly and helpful. we once had a conversation about Newsted, and Burton and Zach Harmon for 35 min. I really like the way my pedal is so I haven't had it upgraded.

I play all styles really, but my specilty is classic 80's metal. Like I said before I have been playing for 14 years. I have so much gear it would take me hours to list so I will just give you my set up. Ampeg SVT, Spector Euro, Electro Harmonix holy grail, and Big Muff, Carvin compressor (rack mount) Korg DTR 2000 (rack mount) I mostly play with my fingers, but when I do use a pick I use a Tortex blue (1.0) triangle (same as Newsted's) and of course my Morley. I would definitly buy another one. My pedal is always very useful to me.

To get a 'good' sound out of it, just plug in and turn it on. Seriously. I haven't heard a noise out of this pedal that I couldn't appreciate. A power switch, two knobs, two footswitches, and a pedal. Pretty simple.
The manual is available from morleypedals.com - just dig for it. The manual is one sheet of paper (printed both sides) and is as informative as it needs to be - "You now own the finest pedal ever made".

Hohner PJ-F1 (four-string fretless)
Kasino Lounge-B (solid state 75-watt 15" combo)
The pedal is the newest piece of equipment in the chain other than the cords (which I built this year from vintage parts). The amp has it's own distortion when overdriven and this pedal meshes very well with it. My improv trio can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/bogtheband/
Powered on; no instrument signal : a faint hum (60Hz) can be heard with both effects on and the pedal 'toe-up'. With the pedal 'toe-down', an airyness (an effect of the photocell) is added. In other words, it's virtually silent. I'm thinking that the hum could be mostly eliminated by replacing the power cable with one that's grounded. It's not a big enough problem for me to bother doing it, though.
The fuzz+wah sounds a little thin when all the way 'toe-down' - that position is meant for lead guitar and I'm running a bass through it. So that's self-explanatory. It sounds great, though, and is a rather versatile pedal.

It's a big chrome box! You could probably drive a van over it and still be able to use it. It's practically indestructible in 'normal' use. I've only had two problems and both were easily fixed.
The glue on the gaffer's tape that held the 'curtain' in front of the photocell dried out. Half an hour and some fancy red duct tape later and the pedal's right as rain. It'll probably be another 25 years before I need to replace it.
Then the bulb burned out and it's NOT something you'll find at a hardware store (or anywhere else I looked offline). They are, however, relatively cheap and easy to find online. The GE bulbs are rated at 7,000 hours so you won't have to change them often but definitely have a spare on hand when gigging.

Morley put the electrical schematic online along with the manual. I know how to use a multimeter and a soldering iron; I shouldn't ever need to contact their customer service. It's cool that they posted the information they did, though. For that, they get a '5'.

The three criteria for Bog's music is that it be 'Slow, Heavy, and Loud'. This pedal fits right in to our sound. If I ever do manage to break this thing (or lose it somehow), the replacement cost would be well worth it. This pedal is a brick of sonic gold!

It's a wah. Hit the switch and move the pedal. The fuzz is slightly more confusing...hit the other switch, adjust the two knobs, and work the pedal a bit more. Have them both on and have this really weird sound, have them both off and it's a volume pedal. Pretty easy.

I'm using an ebay special Superstrat with an Alder body, maple neck, and Duncan pickup. This guitar hits an MXR 6 band EQ (the blue one) and then this pedal before going to the amp, a stock Carvin XV-112E.
As a volume pedal, it's very transparent. In A/B tests it was very hard to tell the difference.
As a wah, it's pretty good. Has a nice, thick, long sweep that sounds very good. There's this one dead spot, but everyone else mentioned that already too. Not even really a dead spot, just a bit off.
As a fuzz, it's really not worth it. But I never liked fuzz pedals anyway.
Now, with both switches on, we get to have some fun. Now, at this setting, it's going to feedback like a motherfucker. Even if you don't play anything, it produces feedback. With the toe all the way down the entire time, you get a tasty solo tone. If you hit a chord (or anything, really) and work the pedal, you get this amazing feedback that follows the pedal along with a clicking/growling sound. It almost sounds like an analog delay pedal that's self oscillating, except this doesn't really change pitch in the feedback. If you throw a flanger on top of it as well, it sounds amazing. I love that sound.
Overall, it's very solid. A 9.

I play mostly rock, with blues and shred on the side. I really dig this pedal. Whereas most wahs make you sound nasaly and trebly, this one makes a very pronounced "wah" while still maintaining your tone. If it was stolen, I'd probably get this again. Not because it's the end all be all of wahs, mostly because of that cool feedback sound that I use. How can you not like a pedal that is practical, insane, and reliable all at once?

Its good as a RHYTHM wah. It really picks up the low frequencies that my Cry Baby 535 does not. Its kind of thin on the top end, not "chewey" enough for my kind of leads (Shred and thrash stuff). there seems to be a dead spot in the middle of the sweep but its not TOO bad. Could this be from my EQ or is it because of aging lights in the pedal. over all it is a good sold wah

you can use it for a volume, wah, fuzz, or fuzz/wah. i use the fuzz setting on my amp for normal rhythm. if you are in the toe up position and toe down just a skootch, ittl give youre axe a little deeper sound and it tends to crunch and accent the palm mutes a little better. if you click on the wah, watch out for FEEDBACK! the only time i have this problem is when the gain is up all the way. since this is a 15 watt pedal, haveing the fuzz and wah on at the same time it could kill with feedback. the pedal tends to be noisy when both fuzz and wah are on. independantly however, they are both quiet as hell. on the fuzz, the more you toe down, the heavier and raunchier the fuzz gets. on a clean setting, this fuxx is DEFINATELY retro sounding. if you need that stones or beatles fuzz you can get it with this thing. the wah is straight out of Jimi Hendrix's rig dude. it sounds killer on voodoo child. 'nuff said

built like a freakin tank. only had one problem. therea a really long crew lookin thingy attached to the heel of the pedal and it somehow got loose so when i was toein up, it would hit the lightbulb mount on the inside and ground the unit and it would click off until (just for an instant) i moved it either up or down. it was a vert easy fix though. theres a little screw that needed to be tightened on the heel of the pedal. (if'n you are reading this and have the same problem, it takes a 1/4 inch socket/wrench to fix)

i play metal (mostly Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Diamond Head, Motorhead and Holocaust)through a crate GX-20M (20 watts, crate 10" custom 4ohm) and a Washburn WG-587 7-string. no doubt in my mind that this thing would sound even better on a half or full stack. in fact i played it througha crate BV150H half and it fuckin ruled with the KKV i was playin.
Good - sound and lots of it, wide sweep for a more accurate wah, its CHROME (very impressive stage presence big chrome menace with MORLEY on the front, operated by light no pots to wear out (ie crybaby)
Bad - volume isnt what i expected, its kinda wussy, fuzz/wah combo causes major feedback and minor noise
this was my first venture into effects/wahs. i bought it to use with my bass (hopeing to emulate cliff burton). i thought cliff burton used this pedal and i wanted to sound exactly like him. i found out that he used a power wah BOOST not fuzz. Reccommend it to ANYONE who wants a good solid wah and a bit more muscle in what theyre playin

Due to the long way from bass to treble it is not too good for fast funky wah licks but for slow phaserlike sounds it is awesome.
Also the Wah doesn't cut the bass as much as for example a Cry baby
and it is much smoother and more subtle as Jimi's choice.
Very warm sounding!
The fuzz in it is very noisy and in my opinion not good for getting a fat lead sound but it is perfect if you like weird sounds ala NIN or Sonic Youth.

Excellent!!!!!!!!
When my bulbs broke I wasn't able to find this type in Austria.
I just wrote a email and got some for free. They didn't charge anything (i mean it's quite generous to get bulbs and shipping via airmail from the USA to austria for free for a 25 year old pedal)
Thanks a lot to Bill Wenzloff at morley!!!

I just love this wah! I bought anotherone as backup if it was stolen or finally broke. I heard Morley released a new wah with the classic PWF sound but i prefer the old ones due to their fantastic chrome looks. I own three different wahs: a Ibanez Wau Wau Fuzz, a Dunlop Cry Baby and the Morley PWF wich i love the best (by far).
If you see one used give it a try!

The unit is simple. The jacks for both "guitar" and "amp" are identified. Has 110VAC power supply, so battery life is never a problem. Onstage, you need to run a power cord to the unit.
I've had this since I bought it new about 25 years ago. No manual, no patches, no firmware... who needs 'em.

My setup is 64 Gibson Firebird III-->PWF-->Music Man 100 RD with 212RH cabinet. It gets a little bit noisy at higher amp volumes, but what doesn't? The wah is by far the best available anywhere. It works on an opto-electronic design instead of a potentiometer.
That means no worn out pots to replace. I have a spare light source that I bought with the unit... 25 YEARS AGO. Still haven't replaced it.
The fuzz is mediocre at best. Not enough tonal range. It was good for its day, but too many other good distortion/sustain pedals are available. I get plenty of great overdrive sounds from the Music Man 100RD, so the fuzz isn't critical.
Using the unit as a volume/expression pedal is good. Does what you want in the regard.

No longer actively gigging, but when I did it was Top 40, Oldies, Blues, Classic/Hard Rock. The unit was a good fit back in the day.
I've played for nearly 40 years. I've got a homemade PA setup, mikes and stands. If it was lost or stolen, I'd look into some of the other manufacturers wah pedals, but probably replace it with the Morley Bad Horsie.
I compared it to the Vox Cry Baby, but preferred the PWF due to its design (no pot).
