Plug it inbetween your guitar and amp and go! It's a simple wah wah pedal!

After reading some of the previous reviews I ask myself, "What were these kids on when they wrote!" First of all this wah is high quality and will hiss when you put crappy little fuzz junk in front of it! I feed either a '61 Strat or any number of Gibson V's or Kramer Metal neck DMZ's into a Boss DS-1 or Tube Screamer then into a Morley Wah into a Multivox MX-312 Tape Delay and then into either Marshall JMP's (Take your pick!) or Magnatone 460's.(Or Valco's or Vox's or take your pick on a quality vintage amp)I even use an old Boss Comp up in front sometimes and this set up is not noisy and even at full volume I can control the noise easily. And I don't even use an effect loop! I mean if you want absolutely zero noise then STAY AWAY FROM ROCK.....kids!!! Or at least try a noise gate...Geeez! I have used my first Morley for close to 26 years and tried just about every other type of wah I could get my hands on. I've kept a few Thomas Crybabys, and they do get a nice meaty tone (but keep those pots clean!!!), but if some kid thinks that a wah wah pedal is going to make his junk sound good then he should be investing his money into REAL equipment instead of his junker amps, toys and guitars.(All over priced no doubt!) The previous reviews must be on the battery operated black boxes 'cause these chrome 120 VAC wahs provide an intense hollow tone. I must admit I've never tried one of those! I mean, Did Aerosmith and Thin Lizzy sound like junk? Does Metallica sound like junk? Did Steve Vai win a bunch of guitar awards from sounding like junk? Did he not "wah wah" while with Frank Zappa or David Lee Roth? Did Robin Trower sound like junk on "Bridge of Sighs"? I guess that wasn't a wah wah Eric Clapton used on his solo material!(Junk?) Why were all these guys able to use Morleys without all the whiner problems the previous complainers wrote down?....AGAIN.....Brains!!!!!

These are high-tech pedals and should not be used by babys. I recommend that a true by pass switch be installed and these non-boosting wahs are perfect for that as there's even a plugged hole on the box so no cutting needed for this mod........just some brains!!!!

Not Rocket Science, push the button rock it around a bit push it again and you have a volume pedal. Any one with a calf muscle would not have a problem getting this thin to do something. the button takes a bit of practice to be efficient. otherwise you are stumbling around to activate the wah. All it takes is a bit of garage time practicing.

I play a fat strat through a fender amp and DOD effects. It is awsome on the clean chorusy effects. It has a subtle presence with heavy distortion, but i kinda like that. The nob is useless, and the volume sweep is not too broad.

Before I got this I played through a crybaby and vox. I had problems with them breaking down. This thing is reliable. It also acts a volume pedal, that is a plus. For my blues and rock style this thing is sufficient. I would buy it again.

First of all, I shouldn't loose time on this, but I bought one after having read some advantageous review on HC... And I don't want anyone doing the same mistake !
Using it requires no highschool studies. After I sold it for a Colorsound wah, I discovered that better wah or volume pedals are way easier to use to make music !

What sound quality ? When I threw it away, I noticed a huge improvment on my sound (Strat+any Fender tube amp). Volume was better than wah, but sweep ain't adapted.

Seems fairly simple; with the switch outside the pedal, it's far more difficult to accidently switch the wah effect off. The expression pedal moves relatively smoothly and doesn't slip or grate.

I have only purchased this unit today, though I have been playing it often in the store all this week. With a Fernandes Strat similar to my Squier, I got good sound out of it running to a Randall Bluesman. It seems a good idea to put any effects BEFORE the wah in the chain, because the Bluesman's internal OD wasn't affected much by it. It sounded good clean, as I expect it will on my Fender Champ (w/ a Boss OD-2R).

It seems very reliable; it has some case wear & tear, but it still functions perfectly. It appears to be an older unit (the CE marking on the bottom says 199-, looks like a 0 or a 4 but scratched out), but it sounds better tban a newer one of the same model I played.

I have had no opportunity to check this, but as an address is printed on the bottom of the unit, it seems as though they expected it to go through several hands without damage.

I think I got a deal. The used shop where I bought this unit had 2 Morley PWVs, this one and a newer one. This one is easily identified as the older of the two first by the scratches in the paint, second by the logo font ('70s-butterfly-ish, as opposed to the late model's standard font), and third by the unpainted metal underside. Clearly, the Morley Sound Enhancements company has gone downhill, because the old box is structurally and sonically superior (and consigned at the same price as the newer one). The newer box, while structurally similar, does not have as good a mechanism for the pedal-to-resistor interface, and so I had trouble getting the pedal to stay put. Also, the sound from the newer one was weaker. Don't forget to put it later in the effects chain, because you'll be fluxing volume on your already-generated signal instead of fluxing volume into the signal-generation process. This was far better for me than the $49 used Crybaby I tried; why would anyone put an effects switch inside the rocker pedal? You'll turn it off half the time! The only minor complaint I have is that the pedal squeaks a little bit when you rodk it, but that can be corrected. Thus, bottom line: IF YOU BUY A MORLEY PWV, BUY THE OLD ONE! It's got a surprisingly beefy wah-tone, and it holds up rather well. The new model deserves poor reviews; I think that may be what happened to the people who have been disappointed.

I'm posting again on this pedal. Since my last post I picked up a Hughes and Kettner combo, and this pedal is no longer the beast it once was, it's replacement, a new Dunlop 95Q arrived today :) It must have been a compatability problem, but oh well.

After playing it through a high calibre amp I see exactly where it lacks articulation. It still sounds ok, but not of Crybaby calibre on an expensive amp.

Not very user friendly,
For the volume pedal you can't really use it to change between rhythm / lead volume because theres no minimum volume, at toe up its got no volume and at toe down its full volume, so if you want a constant rhythm volume you have to put it somewhere in the middle and hope to find it again after a solo, also if you use a wah in the same song it will be on full volume no matter what.
The wah switch is located on the side of the expression pedal so its not very easy to suddenly change between a wah bit and a non wah bit.
Actually using the expression pedal is easy.

I play it after (yes, after) an ibanez smash box distortion pedal, for some reason, its hardly noticable before distortion, hence all the crap reviews for this product. The level knob supposedly changes the wahs output volume but it has little or no effect on anything. Its pretty much just got a high output. As far as sounds go, on clean it sounds really nice. On distortion the bass isn't really as as loud as the treble and it sort of fades in the notes but overall it sounds pretty nice. Works average for Hammett sounds, sounds a lot like 'bulls on parade' (RATM).

I play alternative, metal, rock, and it works fine for what I play. I compared it to an original crybaby and this one sounded a bit more modern. If it were stolen I'd probably buy a Bad Horsie because I don't really use the volume and I am a lazy bastard. I don't like the fact the switch for wah is on the side.

I love it. With the right adapter I have no problems. I don't know if they made a good batch fo these things or what..this thing beats the **** out of my frind Eric's VOX, and definatley better than my old Crybaby. With my lame little Park amp and a good arsenal of guitars this thing does wonders for me. I've had no problems at all with the Volume function, could be a little more linear i guess.

Great pedal. I use it for my Kirk Hammet impressions with my Jackson USA, for Blues with my Amer. Std.Strat and for goofin around with my Samick SG. It serves all of my guitars well. If it were stolen(it won't be lost!) I will track the scumbag down and beat him senseless(with the pedal). If can't figure out who it was, I'd stick with MORLEY but buy a Bad Horsie so I can just step on it and go nuts.

After paying $80 for this pedal and being very dissapointed in it, I felt it was my duty to inform everyone that this pedal is a total piece of crap! The wah switches on and off by a seperate switch next to the foot pedal. Acts as a volume pedal when the wah is off.

Here's the problem: you'd expect a volume pedal/wah pedal to be pretty simple to use, but it just isn't because of the idiotic engineering that went into this pedal's pathetic design. First of all, you need to push a button to turn the wah on, otherwise the pedal acts in its volume function. The stupid part lies in the necessary positioning of the pedal. Usually, I'd leave the pedal in its fully-pressed state, with the volume at its max, and only use the volume pedal funciton for fade outs and the like. So at its normal state, the pedal is pressed all the way forward. The problem is that the pedal is obviously still pressed all the way forward when you use your right foot to switch to wah mode, and if you're using distortion, it produces the horrendous squealing feedback that you'd normally avoid by not rocking the pedal all the way forward. Basically, the way the volume and wah coexist, one is compromised by the other; if you compromise the volume mode you lose massive tone by leaving the rocker halfway up and then blow your ears off when it's on full volume in wah mode, and if you compromise the wah mode you get hideous feedback whenever you activate the wah. Blaghhhhhh. I can't even give this category a rating because it's not a question of being difficult/easy to use, it's more a question of being humanly possible to use..."Can this pedal ever be used successfully?" is more like it. My experience says no.

The volume is basically volume, so whatever. My sound gets louder and quieter, fantastic... too bad it sucks tone like hell. As for the wah, it has to be the weakest piece of equipment I've ever heard. At least most bad effect announce their presence with a hideously obvious "I AM A BAD EFFECT" sound; the Morley's wah is so subtle that it's almost aurally invisible. I bought this because in the music store it sounded smoother and less harsh than a Crybaby and was more affordable with a Vox, and I've regretted the purchase ever since. I traded it in shortly after purchasing it, bought a Crybaby instead, and placed a distortion pedal before the wah, and that made all the difference in the world... the sound became smoother than ever and the wah was actually noticeable in my sound. This category gets a 1 because I bought it primarily as a wah pedal and the wah effect sucks, big time.

:

Doesn't look like it would break. Then again, a solid chunk of granite wouldn't break either... but it also wouldn't help my sound in any way. I might even buy a solid chunk of granite before I paid for another Morely wah pedal. At least the granite might have aesthetic purposes.

I play mostly rock and funk, with some hardcore and metal in there too... I don't think that matters too much, though, because I can't see this pedal being useful to any musician. The switching mechanism is absolutely ludicrous, and as for the pedal's sound, it functions fine on volume but terribly on wah. If you want a wah, like I did, go get a Crybaby (or a Vox if you have the extra cash), and don't make the mistake of thinking "Hey, an affordable wah with a volume effect thrown in too, cool!" I did it, and, like me, you'll end up paying for an affordably useless example of engineering ineptitude. Ick.
