Again, I've had this for a long time. periodically I put a touch of grease on the nylon chord, where it touches the edge of the guide holes. No problems for many years.

This is an old Morely volume pedal which was made sometime in the late 1970's or early 1980's. I'm pretty sure they don't make it anymore as the only volume pedals they put out now are active (require a power source). This one's completely passive.
Now then...this is quite easy to use. It was broken upon purchase but in the sense that the cord which moved the volume slider inside the unit was broken. For a cool $20, I bought it and stuck a B string in place of the cord. The guy I bought it off has another one, but with a nylon cord inside. I prefer the guitar string, believe it or not, because the volume pedal slips less now. Much easier to control. In short, this is easy, easy stuff, and terrific for doing volume swells. Plus no batteries. How much easier could it get?

Amazing how an old thing like this can sound as good as it does. Very quiet, with no noticeable noise added to my effects chain. It doesn't crackle at all, though that's probably because there's very little which can go wrong -a quick spray of some canned air into the volume slider control inside cleans it up quite nicely. The sweep is fairly good on this, too...very natural, lacking the "jump" at the midpoint (which I've noticed is rampant in some newer Morley volume pedals).
My only reason for giving it a 9 here is that you can't use it to boost your signal further than it would be without the pedal in line, but then I'd probably need an active pedal for that.

This thing's old! It looks quite funky and it's possible that whatever one has as the cord for connecting the actual pedal to the volume slider can break -particularly if you're using a guitar string like me. However, I would gig with it as I've noticed that when the cord breaks, the slider inside doesn't drop all the way to zero and thus you're not screwed if it "dies" mid-gig. Plus it's passive so you don't have to worry about batteries dropping out and stopping your signal cold.

I've never dealt with Morley and probably never will. This thing isn't even made anymore, so it's doubtful I could get any support. Nor would I want any. I've got a thing against Morley as their so-called "wahs" are pure crap "eh-eh" pedals. Even the "Bad Horsie" which they paid Steve Vai to endorse. Heh heh.

It does exactly what I want it to. Apart from the reliability issue, it's a great little piece of gear and quite useful. I've been playing for over two years and upon obtaining this piece of gear I've realized how much it can improve my playing -no more fumbling for my volume knob and blowing a lead! Plus I can do volume swells and all that good stuff. If it were to be lost or stolen, I'd be very distraught as I'd have a hell of a time finding a replacement. No wishes for this thing. It's just absolutely great. If anyone spots one of these, I recommend offering a low price -some fool's probably going to part with one for cheap at a garage sale without realizing what a useful (if purely functional) piece of gear they've got.
