10 You cannot find a better octave pedal than this monster. It actually preserves the fundamental signal of your instrument and creates the octave with it. It sounds insane plugged in after a fuzz face distortion. The fuzz of your guitar becomes thick and burpy. Noise is minimal. Could be my vintage set up? Sounds better through vintage circuitry by the way. I've played it through new guitars and basses and you can instantly hear the difference. I play it through a '69 Marshall cabinet fired up by a fender dual showman reverb head. And the guitar is a '73 fender hardtail strat. You can sounds like bootsy on bass and Jeff beck type distorted guitar.

10 Has never failed in the two years I've owned it and I don't think it could to be honest. It's built like a tank. I would defenately gig with it. It would be my secret weapon.

Never dealt with the company since it went out or buisiness in the seventies but I own almost all of their other products including the rare and coveted Mu-Tron flanger and I can say there are no better analog effects for an instrument on this planet.

10 I play all styles and this thing is super versital and can be appied to all kinds of music. I've been playing for 17 years. If it were stolen i would instantly replace it at any cost. I love this pedal because it ads to your creativity and it will make you play your instrument differently according to your reaction to how it sounds.

This effect is S-U-P-E-R STANK FUNKY (quiet too). Nails the Bootsy thang to a T. Combined with a Mutron III, Your in poopity nirvana. This is clearly the best Octave effect I've ever used. Can you say DEEP ?? I'm currently using Fretted and Fretless Musicman Stingrays > Mutron Octave Divider > Mutron III > EBS Fafner...These Mutrons are THE BOMB !!!
I use a true bypass loooper so signal degradation is not an issue...still, it's dead quiet and does not effect your signal.

I've been playing for 25 years and play all styles of music. My first love is da FUNK which this box seems to be made for. Poop supreme!!
Also good for soloing in any context. If it were stolen, I'd file an insurance claim and use my other one...hehehe
I love everything about this box. The Stabilizer makes the tracking flawless and follow the decay down to nothing, The Ringer adds a cool octave up ring modulator and the Bass Only will loosen the bowels of even the most uptight audience. I played the EBS Octabass and is is mucho sterile compared to this organic wonder.
I am a Mutron Freak !!! Yippeeeeee !!!

Just plug it in, and start playing with it. The tone and mix knobs can give you many variations. The rocker and foot switches are simple and easy to use.

I play a Parker nite fly into a Fender Deville with a Digitech RP-3. Sounds awesome! The effect can be dialed in from subtle to strong and the tone is so syrupy and liquid. Sounds great with many different effects, but best with some fuzz and an envelope filter.

Has worked every time I plug it in. Although it's too rare to gig with, I have giged with it before. Did not need a back up. Hard wired and super strong box. The designers built it to withstand a drop off a building and still work.

Great pedal! Digital effects just don't even come close. If it were stolen, I would be beside myself. So rare and so superior to anything else, that I'll probably never sell it.

There is no gain control on the unit, so its pretty easy to get started.

The sound on this effect is by far the best. The tone is a rubbery fat warm and beefy. Most other octaves I have tried are thinner, and synthetic sounding. If you put this effect before a Mutron Envelope filter, you can use the Envelope Filter's gain to stabilze the output. Its almost as if the Octave was made to be coupled with the Envelope Filter, together they make a variety of sounds that constituted a portion of Jerry Garcia's sound. The Envelope is heard on "Estimated Prophet", "Shakedown Street", "Playin in the Band", "Ruben and Cherise", etc. and the Octave Divider is heard on "Uncle John's Band" jam, "Cats Down Under the Stars", the end of "Terrapin Station", "Hey Pocky Way", etc. I use the effect in one setting only: Mix at 10am, Tone at 2pm, Ringer Off, Stabilizer On, Bass Only Off. The Stabilizer is what really separates this unit from ALL other Octave Dividers. The Octave is mostly a single note effect, meaning that you play it like a saxaphone, one note at a time. With the octave effect on, if you play a chord, the stabilizer inhibits the noise created as the unit tries to produce an octave note for each string in the chord. It seems the stabilizer decides which note to create the octave for, and reduces the volume of the rest.

The Mutron Octave Divider and Mutron Envelope Filter are a pair of effects that work well together. If you have one, you'll need the other. If you like the Grateful Dead, you'll need both

One tone knob, One octave control knob, a power switch with an LED, a "ringer" switch which adds a little high-end ring and a "stabilize" switch which when on adds a short and consistent delay to the tracking but then stabilizes the tracked tone, rather than when it's off the tracking kind of wavers around (if that makes sense...). Two foot-switches, one turns the effect on and off and the other cuts out the guitar and only leaves the bass end. Given that there's only two controls for the octave effect, it's not really a difficult pedal to get the desired octave effect that you want. I don't think that the Ringer does much and the Stabilizer is fun to fool around with. A bit of caution for first time users: when I first got this pedal I hated it and even tried to sell it for a while. I'm glad nobody wanted it though because after getting used to it i really started to love it. Also for anyone who uses older effects, the abundance of LEDs is a luxury.

Not noisy at all by my standards. The effects sound good, I like the MuTron's tracking better than any other octave pedal i've ever used other than a modern Boss Octaver. There's a little bit of fuzz there too. Before I got this pedal I was using a friends Boss octave effect for a synthy effect on leads. My favorite use for the MuTron though is on lower single string riffs. It sounds really chunky and fuzzy.

This is a solid pedal. Other than the plastic knobs and switches, I'm not worried a bit about it.

I'd buy it again, The one effect I am kind of picky on is an octave pedal and out of all that I've played I like this MuTron one the best. I Bought it from a fairly commercial music store and I would expect that I probably paid too much for it. The only thing that i wish it had is a level or boost control, but this isn't really a big deal. The Blue Box seems to be the octave of choice out there But I can't stand that little thing, so maybe like-wise if you like the Blue Box you wouldn't like the MuTron...Well at least what I can say is that the MuTron is worth checking out if you find one.

Excellent octave (one down) and tracking. Has blend and tone knobs Ringer switch(adds slight upper octave tone, like green ringer) Stabilize switch that does nothing. Power switch with LED. On/Off and Bass Only footswitch which cuts out the guitar signal totally. Both Switches have LEDs.
