Ease of Use : 9
As easy as it gets: one knob, one rocker switch, one footswitch. It only has one sound, but it is the sound I was always looking for and could not find without buying the large and expensive Mutron III, which takes a post-Bac degree to learn the ropes of. This is simplicity.

Sound Quality : 10
As I've said in other reviews, I reserve 10s and superlatives for Analogman and Mutron products only. So here it is: I own 4 Envelope filters, and three, including the EH Q-tron, are on a shelf in my closet, with no chance of coming out unless the MicroV dies (it is about 30 years old). This is the fat, Jerry Garcia auto wah tone, the Stevie Wonder "Higher Ground" tone(both used the Mutron III), which I searched for with other products but could not really get. This box does one thing, but does it better than anything I've ever heard. If you want to be Bootsy Collins, I'm not sure this is the right box (although it is supposed to be a one-trick version of the Mutron III that he used), but if you're trying to get the other tones I've mentioned, this is a fantastic alternative to the Mutron III which takes up way too much space on a pedal board, and the Qtron which has a serious volume boost when engaged. I have not noticed any volume or tone loss in the MicroV as mentioned in other review, but that doesn't necessarily mean it ain't there. It's sound is a 10 for me.

Hasn't crapped out yet and it's 30 years old.

I play a lot of styles, but I use it for those things mentioned above. I would definitely replace it, as I'm pretty sure it is the only Auto-wah I will ever use again. I think it is a phenomenal value and great for fitting on pedal boards. If you're trying to sound like Jerry and don't have tons of money to spend, I would seek one of these out on ebay, they usually come around about every other month or so. I would not by EH, even though the designer for Mutron designed the Qtron and Qtron +. I really don't care for the reliability of EH products, they are all oversized, and they have gain variability problems (I own 7 EH products). This is the only Auto-wah I'll ever need. I'll give it a 9 overall due to the lack of versatility and the absence of customer support.

The Mu-tron Micro V is a great envelope filter for what it's worth. Very simple, on knob for Range and a rocker switch for hi/lo pass. Can't be much simpler then that to get a good sound

Sound Quality : 7
For this pedal, i'm using a Ibanez soundgear bass through a ibanez flanger, MXR phase, tube screamer and morley wah, then into my crate/bagend stack. The Mu-Tron sounds great, especially with a Flanger going at the same time. A major downside to this is the volume and tone. It completely drains the volume, so your not nearly as loud. Also it drains the tone and definition out of the low notes. If you do find and buy one of these ( they're vintage), be prepared to buy an EQ and/or volume pedal or a MXR Micro Amp pedal.

Reliability : 8
I can definitely depend on it, its built like a tank. I would go without a backup simply because the sound is lacking when played with. I would just use my Flanger and Wah instead

Never dealt, last time i checked, Musitronics is long gone

Overall Rating : 7
Good for the price. It sounds like a Mu-Tron III, but there jsut arnt enough options to tailor your sound. If there was anything i wish it had, it would have to have a Gain Booster knob on it

For those of you that aren't familiar with the mighty Micro V--it is mini/budget version of the Musitronics legendary Mu-Tron III envelope filter. It is from the 70's and provides the basic Mu-Tron III touch-wah sound, but also has the benefit of being powered by just one 9V and measuring about a 1/4 the size of the heftier III. As far as controls go, it could not be easier: one range knob and one and rocker switch for hi/lo. BIG SOUND!

Sound Quality : 9
Excellent for guitar and bass. Not noisy. Gets that vowel-inflected "WAOMP!" sound to a tee.

Reliability : 10
If you know Mu-Tron effects--you know that construction is not an issue. Built like a tank and very small and portable...good when you want to carry a pocketsize effect and not have to cart a bunch of Mu-Tron shoeboxes.

Musitronics is gone, but I haven't heard too much about dead Mu-Tron pedals out there.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
It is a great companion to my Mu-Tron III and perfect for when I just want the basic touch wah sounds and don't want the hassle of my Mu-Tron III. It is totally set and forget. Envelope filters all have a different personality and I seem to find redeeming qualities in all of them. The Micro V is great for its simplicity and sound quality.
