Ease of Use : 10
I gig regularly and find the Monotaur a great choice which is very easy to dial in a nice organic distortion for both classic and modern tones

Sound Quality : 10
The sound quality is exceptional on the Minotaur. I have owned many boutique and high end units and this units really lets a great guitar and amp shine without coloration. I am currently using it with a 1964 AC/30 TB6 and it really compliments the amp when I need some extra distortion without raising stage volume to unmanageable levels. The germanium setting is perfect for amps with tube rectifiers including early Marshalls, Voxes and really pushes tweed and blackface Fenders over the top with arm, musical distortion lush with articulation and harmonics.

Reliability : 10
Top quality components! Don't be fooled by the compact chassis, this units is designed to survive the rigors of a professional stage environment

Customer Support : 10
If you ever have a question, Mythfx is a true boutique company with personalized service. Brian is an exceptional musician in his own right, as well as a gifted analogue engineer, and very knowledgable about guitar tone.

Overall Rating : 10
First and foremost, think of your best TS-808 combined with an orginal Fulltone Fulldrive (before they changed to the Fulltone 2). Very versatile from warmed over classic rock overdrive to full out "Green Day" distortion. Be advised that the Minotaur will bring the best out of a quality guitar and amp rig! The price is very reasonable considering the sound and hand crafted boutique quality build. The compact chassis is a plus. You must own this pedal if you are serious about guitar tone, it is an original design with its own exceptiona traits, It is not just another tube screamer knockff..

Fairly straightforward but more versatile than your typical OD or Distortion pedal. Thus, you want to take your time to experiment with various Boost and Gain settings for all three clipping modes (Germanium, Silicon, and Bypass). Lots of versatility in a very small package.

What drew me to this pedal to begin with was it's footprint. I wanted to add a high gain pedal to my board, but to do so, had to take something else off my board. With the Minotaur, it's on the board and nothing had to come off. Why don't other pedal makers make smaller packages? Most bars don't give us much floor space for huge boards of effects so I need to keep my boards footprint as small as possible. Of course, it had to sound good too or I wouldn't have bothered. So ease of use gets a 10 because not only is it easy to dial in a good sound, it's easy to fit with my other gear without having to rebuild and rewire my board or worst case, go to a bigger one.

I use mostly a Fender Strat as that is my main guitar and the Minotaur is fixed to my board. From time to time, I'll play an LP. The pedal is nice and quiet for the settings I use. Cranking the boost control past 3:00 or so can add noise, but they all do.

For a highly overdriven effect I like to use the Germanium clipping mode, keep the master volume at just about unity gain and add some hair to my signal with the Gain control. The pedal stays nice and quiet, but I can get nice useful feedback at reasonably low volume settings. The tone is clear and the guitar stays articulate. This is my favorite setting. Adding analog delay to this setting gets me in Red House territory.

For just a slightly overdriven effect, I just reduce the gain. With my LP, I tend to drift toward the Silicon if I just want to put a little edge on my sound. This setting works nice as the pedal responds well to a rolling volume control on the guitar. Even just holding back with picking attack, the pedal doesn't compress the signal upward as far as I can hear.

My main amp is a Dr. Z Maz Jr and I prefer the slightly overdriven sound I get with that using it's master volume control. I don't think any pedal can do what my Maz does. So the Minotaur pretty much stays in Germanium mode with Boost set to about 8:00 and Gain up around 1:00 to 2:00. I play in a cover band so the Maz by itself won't cover all the ground I need to. The Minotaur gets the nod when I need something heavy on my tone. At home, I use the lower gain settings on my little combo amp.

I recently discovered however, that using the Bypass mode with master volume up, Gain down completely, and Boost at around 9:00 can drive my Maz into crazy warm tone as a clean boost. Best part is my Maz keeps its jangly sparkle. I'm really digging this and might buy a second one and just leave one in Bypass set for a clean boost and the other in Germanium high gain. Heck - 2 Minotaurs still takes up less space than a single distortion pedal.

I own an OCD, TS-9, and the Minotaur. Right now I like using the Minotaur becuase it's so versatile and will probably by another as a clean boost. It's a better-sounding pedal (to me) than my Keeley modded TS-9 which is relegated these days to the bench.

Reliability : 9
I've had this pedal for a little over a month and play through it weekly at rehearsals, and at home through a little combo amp. It's always there when I need it so far and don't expect to see any issues at all. I don't expect to need a backup for it.

Customer Support : 10
I just ordered the pedal on line and got it in a couple of days. Otherwise, no need to contact them. Their web site has all the information I need about the pedal. Kudos to MythFx for hosting a site that truly delivers the goods about their product.

Overall Rating : 10
As mentioned earlier, my band plays classic rock and yes - the Minotaur will get you wherever you need to go. It's great tool for any guitar player who needs to cover the solo for Reeling in the Years, Spirit in the Sky, Argent, Rare Earth.
