The four band EQ is a kit which you must build yourself. If you are familiar with soldering and electronics, it's a snap. The kit instructions are very good. As for the EQ itself, it has four adjustable bands (somewhat overlapping) which you can cut/boost by up to 16 dB. VERY easy to use.

The boosts are high, and for overlapping ranges are additive/subtractive. It is extremely quiet.

I use it all of the time. No problems whatsoever.

In the past, I built other things from PAiA (mentioned below), and once I had a problem because I stupidly put a diode in backwards, but didn't realize it. These guys bent over backwards to help me. In addition, I asked them a million questions about their products, including trying to locate rare IC chips for a delay, and they went out of their way to help me locate these chips. They are also always open to helping you with modifications of any of their kits.

I would recommend any purchase through PAiA. I also purchased and built the Theremax (theremin) and the FatMan (analog synth) and have had no problems with either of them. As for the EQ, previously I had a tiny used Ibenez footpedal, and the rack systems I tried just weren't worth the price that I could get by building my own.
