Four controls, Distortion and Output level (which are standard in their use), and Mode and Level (where mode sets a "style" such as mid boost and level defines how much it colours your tone). The Mode/Level take a little getting used to , but offer fantastic range of tones. The complexity is definitely offset by the increased control this system offers.

quite easy to use, choose mode 1-6 which ever sounds best with your amp and dial in desired distortion and spectrum (enhance) level Has Six modes of Spectrum and level for how much enhanced signal blended in. First few modes are metal type sounds last modes are clearer and better sounding to me. There's a bit of variety in the sounds and exactly the ones I like

sound is great for real nice mild distortion/overdrive up to full Smashing Pumkins style fatness. Barely any noise, I use Maton Mastersound MS 500 with humbucker/splitable pickup variety of amps, sounds awsome through Fender Super Twin, subtle and edgy or strong and full sounding depending how much distortion dialed in, can get alot of sounds I like (fav bands are At the Drive-in, foo fighters, pixies, interpol, Trail of Dead, the mars volta

I like indie style music and fat clear distortion, played for 8 years, previous pedal used for distortion was BOSS OS-2 which i used to think was alright but comparably sounds too coloured and synthetic. now I want another Pearl for different settings. If you can find one buy it.

Four knobs, a little tricky, level, obvious. Distortion, pretty obvious as well. The other two are a little tricky and the deal with the spectrum. One selects 1-6 a tone, 6 being the brightest, and the other selects 1-10 how much the spectrum affects the overall sound, 10 for a large mix, 1 for a much smaller. It should be noted that the 1-6 "click" into place, so it is a slector more than a knob. The manual is pretty useful as well.

Very good distortion, and you can get some really wicked sounds out of ths thing. I've been able to imitate most band's distortions with this box, just cuz you can get a lot of sounds. If you want a grunge sound, it's not the best, but, it's there, if you want a metal sound-it's there. If you want just a mild effect-you guessed it, it's there. Two things keep this from a 10. First, it's a little noisy, but not too bad, and second, the level knob makes a huge boost, and I mean huge. I have it set at 1, and it still boosts the output a lot

I got this thing for nothing, cuz the guy who gave it to me said it didn't work. I took it home, put a 9V in it, and started playing. At first the LED wouldn't light up, so I took it apart, looked at it, put it together, and it worked. I've had it go out on me twice since then in 2 years, but it seems to work fine know. I'd probably use it w/out a backup, of course three times, I've had to reconnect the negative battery terminal wire.

Love this pedal. I play anything from blues to rock to modern rock, and a little metal. Like I mentioned above, I've gotten some really wicked sounds out of it. I'm not an incredibly skilled player, but I took it to my frien who is, because he didn't believe Pearl made a distortion pedal, and he loved the thing, and he told me, "Yeah, I'd hold on to that". Some of the sounds he was getting were sweet, and i could tell that if I had wanted to sell it, he'd have been on it. This is the one pedal I wouldn't sell, trade or give away for anything.
