It's incredibly easy to get GOOD sound out of this unit, but it did take me a while to tweak everything to be where I liked it. I have no complaints in terms of usability here, I found the labels for the effects to be confusing at first, but then they simply became reference points for me.

I am primarily using this with a MIJ '75 RI Fender Jazz Bass with a Hartke HA4000 head into a Hartke VX series cabinet (4x10) and a Peavey BW equipped 1x15 cabinet. I play about 2 gigs a month, and use this with a band setting, and am very satisfied with the tone.
I have found that the unit is DEAD silent when operating, once I isolated the unit in the rack w/ some plastic rack isolators (there was a ground loop previously)
The effects are very strong and very adjustable, I primarily use the reverbs, but I have used the chorus quite a bit as well. I prefer some of my older chorus pedal effects, but for a live situation, it sat in perfectly with the band. The mix knob is awesome for being able to dial in an over-the-top sound, and bringing the original signal back into the forefront.
The reverbs are on par with other FX units that I've owned (ART, Lexicon and DOD) and with the analog style controls, I found them to be much more usable in terms of adjustments.

I do use this on gigs without a backup, altho it's easy enough to bypass, so I haven't really given it any thought. I know that I'm probably in the minority here, but I happily rely on ANYTHING made by Peavey, as I've owned a 1/2 dozen amps over the years that never let me down. I find this unit no exception, and being that it's always racked in a nice road-worthy rack, I find it to be completely dependable.

I've dealt with Peavey in the past, and find them to be one of the best companies to deal with for all sorts of things. Their website made it very easy for me to find a manual (mine was lost years ago) and their phone support is wonderful.

I play all sorts of rock, and find that this unit is really great for being able to make quick adjustments and dial in all sorts of sounds that I require.
I own about 10 guitars and basses along with 4 amps and have owned about 40 others, along with about 15 amps. I've owned dozens of effects pedals and several rack mounted units, and find that this unit is just as good (if not better in some cases) as any other piece of equipment I've owned.
I'm not sure if I'd replace it if it were lost or stolen, only b/c I'm a gear hound who loves trying different things, but I would definitely consider it. The units that I compared this to were other ones that I've owned (Lexicon and ART reverb units) and happily settled on the Peavey.
The only thing that I wish it had was a true bypass, b/c my main amp doesn't allow me to true bypass the effects loop. That's easily remedied with a bypass pedal, but it would be nice if it had that.

I have heard better, I have heard worse. I place this about middle of the road. This is NOT a guitar effects unit, it is made for PA use. A little too much hiss for recording, but I don't use it in my studio for that. This is my effects unit for headphone mixes. This way the vocalist can have all the effects that they want, and I get a clean signal to disk, a win-win situation!
And as for the reviewer that stated there are too many reverb's and that they all sound the same, wrong. Each one has a different "flavor" to it, bright, mid-eee, hollow, short tail, long tail-etc. I have always found one that the artist liked, and that fit their voice.
A decent older reverb that still has a use IMHO.

I have never had a piece of Peavey gear fail on me, and I own a lot. Wish I could say that about some of the other "brand name" items I have got rid of....
And use without a backup...I already do!

I use this with a powered mixer as a delay to run after the amplifiers. I have tried it in an effects loop of a my old Fender tube amp and another hybrid (tube in Preamp) but it wasn't what I wanted.

I like to run delay time based effects after the amps so I use it for that. I get a really nice clear sound from it on the bright delay.

All the effects have a use, you just have to play around with them to get the best settings. Used with a strat, and combined with a Zoom 505ii and my old faithful Peavey Renown, I have acheived some really cool sounds. At this price level, shouldn't really expect world beating performance, but on some of the settings, you get it.

Play varied styles of music, pop, jazz, blues, country and rock (no metal). Thats probably why I find this unit so versatile and useful. When combined with the other effects I use, it can produce some very interesting voices.

Using this thing is very simple. Turn it on, turn the knob to pick your type of effect and tweak two more to edit the sound to your liking.

The sound quality, however, is lacking. This was the first reverb unit I bought for my home studio (bought this about 7 or 8 years ago.) I got it because it was very inexpensive. Unfortunately, price and ease of use was all I was impressed with. The sound is very noisy, even with the level knobs turned all the way down, it still puts out a lot of white noise. Turn the knobs up and it just gets worse. The quality of the effects sounds is also lacking, but I attribute that to such low quality A/D and D/A converters. There are other processors that cost just a few dollars more that provide much better sounding digital converters. In fact I haven't used this unit at all since purchasing one of those slightly more expensive reverb units from another manufacturer.

Overall, I would say this is decent if you desperately need a reverb and don't have very much money to spend. It works well for live use where a little background noise is drowned out, but I wouldn't recommend this for ANY recording.

I only bought the deltafex to put in the effects loop of my XXX head for reverb, and it has quite a few to choose from, and they sound pretty good. I have heard better, but I've heard lots worse too. I'll occasionally use the delay as well, and it works fine for what I use it for. The other effects sound alright, but I mainly bought it for delay and reverb, so I'm not too picky about the other effects. I'll probably use it for recording later on too and I expect it will work well for that too.

Overall it suits it's role well, but keep in mind it's not specifically designed for guitar so it's not footswitchable and you can't combine effects(other than delay and reverb). You'll like it as long as you take it for what it is and don't expect too much from it.

Just to let the people here know, I don't believe this unit is meant to be used with guitars. More specifically, not for live guitar-playing. I believe Peavey made it to be a studio/PA effects unit, for running recorded tracks of vocals, drums, and yes, perhaps guitar, through. Considering Peavey groups their processors as studio/live (PA) units and not guitar units, I would redirect you guys to Peavey's Delta effects stompbox. That was made for guitars. I use the Max 100 preamp/MFX myself, and that was made for guitar. The Deltafex is not equipped for your purpose--so sell it to someone running a studio or PA, or use it for home recording. (Advantage of the former: to get money back to get the floor unit!)

I have several guitars, it sounds best with a Strat, it doesn't sound so good with my Les Pauls. It is pretty quite, if you turn up the equipment going into it rather than boosting the input on it it is dead silent, which is a good thing. Gets noisy when the input level is turned up past half. The delays arent great, Chorus not great, the rotary is good and the reverbs are good. I got a deal on it, I honestly wouldn't pay the new price for it, it does what I need it to do. I run through a Marshall, Johnson or straight to the mixer.

I got a deal on it, I am happy with what it does and the price I paid. Single FX pedals have alot more range and tinkerability than this unit has. Not a bad introduction peice for a beginer or someone that needs a decent to good reverb unit. I wish it had better Chorus, that's what I was hoping for but, I was disappointed but pleasently surprised at the Reverbs.

I must agree with the other reviews - too many reverbs. The rotary speaker, phaser, and flanger effects are quite good for a unit in this price range. I like the reverse reverb too. I must differ with the other fella and say that I like the chorus. I however use it in the effects loop of my amp (Peavey Bandit 112S) so I can use the amp's bypass switch for the amp. This unit should probably not be used as your primary unit, but when mixed with your other pedals, it can give you some good sounds. Currently I play a Epi Les Paul using a Boss SD-1, Zoom 505, & Dunlop wah. Strictly a rhythm player (Can you tell?) This unit is definitely screaming for some distortion. The reverbs help when using the distortion channel on my amp, however.

I play a little of every style (country, rock-n-roll, funk . . . .and the list goes on). Like I said you can get some pretty good sounds, you just gotta work a little; and it works best when mixed with other effects.
