easy enough. EQ is very versatile here since we have BOTH pre-eq and post-eq,something I dont really see on every preamp. Also, the post-eq is active, with an huge range.
Very fast to tweak around with, great for songwriting and recording where you plug in and go. Also capaple of both nice clean and great rock sounds

clean sound is nice and sparkling. Overdrive has a great big fat and juicy tone to it. It's not ultra-high gain, but the gain that is there is really excellent....a great brown sound,it also sounds very natural, more like old Marshall than new Mesa.
Then again, put a booster in front of it,even a boss ge-7 ,and you can get all the additional overdrive that you want, from the same preamp. Also is very silent. Great preamp

if you want a no-bullshit,no 3000-midi-channel crap,or even worse digital distortion ,and you are looking for a guitar overdrive generator ,be it pedal or rack, the TG Raxx is very highly recommended. You cannot go wrong with it's great big sound

Not very versatile on it's own, but very good to build upon with high quality analog effects. Great EQ and up front prescence. Use with a good power amp! Most people do not know that this unit is EXACTLY the same as the TB Raxx bass preamp. Download the spec sheets and compare! They've just labeled the knobs differently on each unit. Great way to leverage manufacturing costs towards multiple markets! Oh yeah this is a secret weapon, used in many studios as a vocal preamp. Try it!

I've never known Peavey gear to be unreliable. I have a 20 year old power amp which is still going strong!

great for all styles. Been playing for 30 years. I own everything. Solid, reliable unit. I wish it had more gain, but that's what good pedals are for anyway. These will be prized units someday! Buy one!

It's pretty easy to use. Mastering the Eq and voicings can be a little weird (maybe it's just mine).

This is a sweet preamp. The distortion probably isn't enough for most people. Use pedals and stuff and you'll get awesome sounds though, which is what I think this was really designed for because you have so much control over your tone you can really shape the sound best for your pedals. This also would be good to use as just an EQ for guitar setups. The choice for low and high outputs really gives you some options in which kind of rigs you can put this in. There have been times where this has saved me cuz I've used so many different ways of using it, from straight to a PA to Stereo receivers just to power my cabinet. The cleans on this are the best I've heard (Although I've never really played through much when playing just clean).
Again, This can help shape awesome sounds for you as long as you have good distortion/overdrive in front of it. I've used Boss DS-1, MT-2, OS-2 and Rocktron Gainiac in front of this and it's brought out the best of all of them.
The best way to use this is probably setting the gain between 5 and 6 then setting the EQ to what you like and then using the voicing on the fly to whatever EQ shape you want whether scooped or balanced or whatever and gain2 is identical to volume almost. The thick and bright buttons can help in some situations but I think the gain-boost is useless unless you are relying solely on the Preamps distortion (which does sound ok, just probably not enough gain for hard rock and stuff).

I don't know...Peavey has a way of pretending their previous products don't exist or something...but I've never actually called them so I won't say anything here.

Awesome for what it does. not a good preamp for hard rock/metal unless you've already got distortions/overdrive pedals or racks. But it's awesome at getting good sounds out of what you have. Especially for the price!

Very simple preamp. Has a few tone settings, and a few voicing settings. Single Channel, with two outputs - one for transistor power amps, the other for tube power amps. A very no-frills preamp.

Very clear sound, even with two 12AX7's in it, it doesn't distort that much on its own, but, put a Tube Screamer in front of it, or a DS-1, and you're in business.

Peavey stuff is solid. My little anecdote is....that when I worked in a repair department in NYC, I NEVER saw Peavey stuff, even though it was our biggest seller. Very well designed with a few fuses in there and lots of air slots.

Peavey is really good with support. They have a great website with a discussion forum where 'the people' can talk amongst themselves. They have lots of manuals online.

I got this because of the tubes. Then, after getting a solid state preamp with a loop, channel switching, mondo gain, and stereo, this kind of sat idle. It's the second time I bought one of these, because it is the best deal for an all-tube preamp. I think the lack of versatility might put some people off. Then again, if you DON'T want that much versatility, this is it!!

two gain stages to this tube pre amp one has 3 band passive eq and the other 3 band active eq and a bright button and a boost and thick button

the boost is okay but i've heard better, the clean sound is excellent and in conjuction with my tubescreamer its really nice, the thing with this is that it is a secret weapon, i noticed that it looked identical to the T.B.Raxx bass pre amp the same one Lee Sklar used so I tried this one with my bass, it sounded excellent and I've owned an SVT and i know what excellent tube sound is

i really do believe that if you buy any product with tubes you need to take them out and buy a set of the best available, most stock tubes have problems

these are cheap used, do yourself a favor if your a bass player and buy one of these or the T.B.Raxx. if you have a solid state rig this is an excellent tool for tone
