I was a little disoriented with it at first, but after a couple of minutes I got the hang of it. It's sounds good while using the built in EQ, I'll have to try it with other microphones. I might try replacing the op amp inside to something a little warmer.

I'm using an Audio Technica AT3035 microphone to record with it. The Eureka then runs into an STA ADC&DAC 2000 which then runs directly to my computer. I use Sonar producer 8 as my DAW and I mix with Izotope's Ozone 3 and various plug-ins that came with Cakewalk.

I'd say I could depend on this preamp to get the job done.

Average, you need to understand compression and eq.

This preamp sounds great for the money. I own the LA-610 I use for bass and vocals due to the richer low end and tube character. However I still use the Eureka for Guitars because the EQ and compressor are so good. You have to pay much more for channel strip that sounds better. I have owned and used the competition and this channel is hands down the best for the price. I own three and will probably buy a few more to track drums in the future. Compressor is especially transparent and adjustable for any application.

I sent them a broken firepod out of warranty and they fixed it free with no problems. Good people.

This is a great piece of gear. I would rather buy a Focusrite ISA 220 or 430 for every channel in my studio but I am not made out of money. This is a great first channel strip to buy for your studio. You will never use cheap preamps ever again.

Pretty intuitive. The knobs, although pretty looking, can be a bit hard to figure out sometimes, not entirely intuitive but still relatively easy.

Good sound for the money for the $400-500.00 range. Of course, if you had the money, you would buy a Manley or Avalon mic pre instead, unless you own this to begin with. This is for people who want a much better EQ than they get on the Mackie or Behringer mixing boards. Plus, there's the added benefit of having a natural sounding compressor as well, as opposed to a computer plug in.

The reliablity of this board is terrible. I was really careful with it and barely used it for two years. Last night, the thing made a strange noise from the output section and stopped working. Then I smelled a funny burning electronics smell coming from the unit. Of course, I disconnected it immediatly and sent it back to Presonus with an RM#. I'm guessing the output stage/faulty quad amp section is to blame.

This is a beautiful unit! it sounds awsome but as far as ease of use.....well the unit is only one space and it has a ton of controls and features so the knobs are very tiny and the writing is very small, so for guys like me who have bad eye sight, get out your magnifying glasses.
The manual is very handy and gives you some great suggestions for using it with various intruments.

I bought the Eureka to record my bass after reading a few reviews about the unit, and I was not disapointed. I pluged in and after a few adjustments I had the perfect tone and compression settings for my bass. The more I record with it the more I love it!
So I thought I would record some vocals through it. In the past I always recorded vocals with a tube mic pre which sounds awsome. at first I wasn't crazy about the sound of the Eureka, with vocals it added some brittleness to the high end and it lacked that warmth of the tube preamp. but the compressor was very transparent and sounded great. So I bought a tube mic the other day, and there is the perfect marriage, the best vocals I ever recorded.
So now I tried a final mix of some midi files that I want to convert to MP3. The Eureka is only mono so I had to do one channel at a time (left and right). I went dirct out of my keyboard and the Eureka sweetend up the mix so nicely I plan to buy a second one to run stereo mixes

Very dissapointed! I have had the unit just over a year, 14 months, and the output section fried. Since the warrantee is only one year I thought I was SOL
I think a product like this shoud last for years in the studio with never a problem. If you take it from gig to gig night after night I can see things happening to it. but not if it just sits in one place like mine does

So I called PreSonus and told them my problem and even though the unit was no longer under warrantee they said they woud fix it anyway. Way to go Presonus!! now thats the kind of company that I like to deal with! Now I will buy that second unit.

I have recorded many different projects, and many styles of music from pop rock, ballads, funk, country, you name it and the Presonus Eureka is a great enhancement to my studio.
I especially love the compressor because its so transparent. the eq section is great and the preamp section is very cool with the ability to change input impedance, but the saturation effect sounds like crap and I never use it. If I want tube saturation I'll use my tube preamp
Overall, I love this thing and glad I bought it

THis unit has tons of features. Parametric EQ, Compression, Input pads etc... It takes a little time to work out. All of the features are very subtle. This pre is a very clean, high-fi type pre. If you are looking for a "tube-like" sound its not for you. I paired mine with a sansamp bddi for a more warm feel in live situations.

As asid above, very clear, clean sound. for the money, you cant do any better. All class "a" wiring for a <$1,000 is un heard of. I paired mine with a furman conditioner, and qsc rmx1402 for live applications.

Here is where it gets a little nasty. I went through (2) of these units within 3 months! I purchased it from Guitar Center. The first time it went out, it was within 30 days of purchase so, gc replaced the unit. The second time it was not within the 30 days, so the absolutly refused to work with me! I wanted to return this unit and purchase something more expensive, yet they still reufused! GC has no customer service.
ANyway....dealt with Presonus directly. They were great to work with. Apparently they had a bad batch of quadamp output chips from phillips that were causing the problems. The fixed it right away, and it was back to perfect order.
