This is a very well made pedal with some unique opions most people could find a use for

Pretty easy to use. One would need to understand what this pedal is to really appriciate it. It's basically a clean and dirty boost. There, now that We've cleared that up. Also Scotty told Me that He designs His pedals to cut through the mix live and in the studio. So if You play in the livingroom through a Twin Reverb on 1 it probably won't blow You away. Through My 22 watt amp on 3 it's tonal sweetness!

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal sure is steeped in controversy. All I know is it's the best OD pedal I've tried. I've tried many and once I got the DD it began to easliy knock off the competition. A lot of pedals have been sent away in disgrace since I got the DD. Very transparent. It sounds like the amp that it's playing through. Very alive and full sounding. Other pedals that are touted as being fat sound thin upside the DD. Also very musical sounding. I'm playing a Strat with a Super Reverb and a Traynor YGM3 with a Red Fang. I'm looking at other Pro Analog pedals to add to the herd.

Reliability : 8
I got the DD used and it had a very noticable buzz that followed the notes around. Scotty fixed it for free and was a great Dude to deal with. No problems since.

Customer Support : 10
As I mentioned Scotty is cool to work with. Very Friendly and funny. I'd love to go out and have a beer with Him sometime but He lives too far away. I plan on getting more of His pedals because of the tone and customer service.

Overall Rating : 10
I play the usual, classic rock and blues. Been playing a regular gig in My garage for many years. I would have no choice but to replace it if it were lost or stolen. It's really fun to play when Your tone is this good.

OK, let's all grow up and quit using this forum as a place to whine. I do not know "Scotty", nor have I talked to him on the phone. I'm just a guy who buys nearly every high-end overdrive pedal as soon as I start to hear good things about it. If I like the pedal, I keep it. If I don't, I send it back.

I 'll start by saying that I think this pedal is overpriced. Regardless of the sound, it shouldn't cost $300. Maybe $200. Of course, this is America, and in a free-market society if someone is willing to cough up $300 for an overdirve pedal then God bless us all. I forked out the cash, and even though I can afford it, it hurt. I had 5 days to return the Dual Drive, but I'm keeping it.

The truth is that the pedal does live up to the hype. I own or have owned the following OD pedals: Bad Cat X-Treme Tone, Matchless Dirt Box, Soldano Supercharger, Hot Cake, SIB Varidrive, both of the Tone Bones, Ibanez Tube King (U.S.), Fulldrive2, Fulltone Distortion Pro (I know it's not an overdrive), and many others. I have up until now been using a Barber Direct Drive SS pedal.

The Barber is great. It's very clear sounding. I have not tried the new model yet. I liked the Barber because it didn't have the dramatic Tube Screamer midrange hump -- but there's STILL a little extra midrange and tonal coloration. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's there. Also the Barber can be a little noisy, even with dead-quiet pickups, cables, and amps. I always liked how the Barber responded to my guitar's volume knob.

I really did NOT want to keep the Dual Drive. I just wanted to play with it for a few days to satisfy my curiosity and the return it. But in a side-by-side with my Direct Drive, X-Treme Tone and Tube King, it was CLEARLY the most transparent and natural sounding. The entire range was preserved from low to high, with no midrange hump at all. With the gain maxed out, there is some serious chunk - enough to play old-school metal - but chord definition was perfect. It made my Direct Drive sound thin by comparison. And there is NO noise from the pedal at all.

The clean channel sounds great too. With the gain still maxed for the dirty channel, the clean channel had a great on-the-edge sound, perfect for classic rock, blues, etc. It's the same idea as the Fulldrive 2 but with a MUCH more realistic tone and a much more available gain. Even though there's only one gain and one output knob shared by both channels, the balance is perfect when youswitch back and forth. So I guess the $300 isn't AS bad as I originally thought, because you do get 2 completely usuable tones. With this pedal, you have 3 "channels" -- bypassed, (your amp's clean tone), Dual Drive clean (which has some teeth), and Dual Drive dirty.

It responds well to volume knob changes, although I lose a little more output doing this then when compared to the Direct Drive. It's a minor quibble.

I haven't tried it with a 12-volt adapter as recommended by the manufacturer (i'm using a Visual Sound 9 volt supply) but I'm looking forward to trying it.

I have now put it on my board right after the Direct Drive. I am keeping the Direct Drive's gain on zero and turning up the output and using it to goose the Dual Drive for a lead boost. This is the perfect set-up as the slight midrange boost from the Direct Drive is helps the leads cut through wothout a lot more volume.

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't know but for $300 it damn well better not go down

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
I'm giving an "8" only becuase of the price. However, as good as these are they should have no trouble selling them.

If you are into the Rectifier sound, or if you like the classic Tube Screamer sound then don't waste your money. If you've been looking for an aggressive yet natural sounding OD that sounds like an extension of your amp, then give the Dual Drive a shot.

Within five minutes of plugging this pedal in and jerkin with the different knobs I realized Scotty had designed a pedal that was like no other. I have through the years bought just about every cool pedal there was to buy and have found they all do somthing....this one is different. It works great with a 59 Bassman, 60 Epiphone Zephyr,Supros and even an AC 30.

Sound Quality : 10

Reliability : 10
This pedal was in my board as the only overdrive on the road for eight months last year and never had even the smallest problem with it...built like a tank.

Customer Support : 9
I have dealt with the company (ProAnalog)for the past few years when I was getting ready to go on the road with Sonia Dada. Scotty is very well informed and helpfull.......but friendly....can be like dealing with a pit bull. I can deal with that because he never jives me on the way things are supposed to sound

Overall Rating : 10
I play alot of different styles, but a tele and a bassman seem to work the best for me.I had to replace my pedal once because the other guitarist in the band tried mine and wouldn't return it (he sounded great with it)LOL. Had to call and get another sent to me. It is such a reactive pedal and it brings out a bunch of harmonics I don't normally get from other boxes. Ya know you get to a point in your playing when it doesn't matter what it cost as long as it gives you the sound and magic night after night....thanks

It looks to be a over priced copy of Mike Fuller's FullDrive II pedal. (see www.fulltone.com) so it should be fairly easy to use although I could not get the tones that I get from the Fulldrive II.

Sound Quality : 4
I tried one that a friend was trying to get rid of for $150.00 with a Fender Strat and a Fender Super Reverb Amp. It sells for $300.00 new, but I was not impressed enough to buy it even for $150.00.

Reliability : 7
It seemed to be built well but I did not look inside so I have my reservations.

Customer Support : 1
I never had to deal with "Scotty" as I decided not to buy the pedal. But one issue that really put me off was in reading these reviews was that on 1/16/2005 someone wrote a review that was not very flattering about this pedal and within the week that followed there were 5 reviews written by mostly anonymous reviewers all of which had the same vocabulary praising this pedal and "Scotty". Could they possibly have all been "Scotty"????

Overall Rating : 5
I play blues based rock have been playing now for around 30 years. This pedal is at best O.K. I would use it if there was nothing else availabe but for the price there is much better sounding pedals out there for less money.

Simple straight forward layout. controls are gain, Bite(Treble W/a pull knob labled"Pull Phat" to engage a couple of Mullard trannys), Bark which adjusts the mids (a very functional and usefull control), and then a "level"Vol adjustment. A bypass switch with LED and another switch to go between Clean and Drive that has a LED indicating which mode you're in. There's a power jack that accepts 9-12 or 18vdc negetive tip power supplys and it will also run on a 9volt battery.. It also has the input, output and power jacks located on the front(forward) side of the pedal instead of the righ&left sides. I wish all pedal builders would do this as it makes pedal board space management so much cleaner and more functional...
Easy!

Sound Quality : 10
My setup is simple.. I use a Greenwich Village Custom '61 strat with a mix of Lollar and Hamel single coil P/Us .A Wyllie wah, COT,Scary Face, BJF MGMV vibe, Dual Drive,Boss DM-2 to the "A" channel of my Divided by 13 ERT33 into either a 2X12 or 4X12 cab both loaded with Pre Rola 30s.. The Dual Drive really fits in and gives me MORE of what I already like about my rig. The clean side adds dimension and range all controllable from my guitar . retaining the tonal goods when i roll of on the guit vol, also gives the front of my amp a good clean push if I want it to. Again without coloring the tone or subbing one frequency for another. Tight, clean and crisp..
The Drive channel is tight and punchy with very detailed harmonics and can go into musical harmonic laden feedback. It's a asskicker. The only compression is comming from my amps tubes. this pedal is NOT compressed, flabby or overly mid focused like most other ODs. Also the DD doesn't use a buffer in the bypassed mode like some others. A bonus in my book!
Like others have mentioned. You truely find were this pedal lives in a live band or at band volume levels. It's a gas. I need it...
I've had a few other OD pedals, SHO, Super Duper, Klon, D-13 Lift, also tried the Cornish SS.All good pedals. The Dual Drive is much better for my uses and I'm not at all missing any of the aformentioned units...Did I mention that the unit is dead quiet?
It's quickly realized by one who can properly utilize the Dual Drive that it's a performance device. Period...

Reliability : 10
I'll give this one a 10 cause it's built rugged and I know Scotty uses the good stuff as far as switches, jacks and circuit components. the enclosure is tough. Looks real pro as well.. I have a MKII and a Scary face as well that are around two years old that function without any problems what so ever.Scottys circuit boards are buit tough and have very clean lines. nothings crowded and stuffed in, plenty of room..
I would definetly buy Scottys 12vdc power adapter or run it off a compatible pedal board power supply cause it does draw down a battery pretty fast.....

Customer Support : 10
Scotty stands behind his stuff 100%.. I know IF I ever had a prob it would be dealt with quickly.. If you want your ass kissed , don't call Scotty but if you want to deal with a guy that has an incredible amount of knowledge about vintage and modern pedals, guitars, pickups and amps Scotty knows his shit and is straight forward about it..
If you know what you want, Scotty will let you know if he can help out. Or not....

Overall Rating : 10
I play both original and "modified" cover tunes in the blues driven hard rock vein.No verbatim stuff here, usually in a three piece outfit(band). Been playing since 75 or 76 with a break here and there.
If it were stolen , I'd try to find the A hole who took it first and slap him aruond with the pedal. I'd definitely buy another to replace it and you can ask Scotty himself what a cheap-ass I am so that says a hell of a lot about how much I dig this pedal.... It fits right into my scheme of things.. It won't work for everybody but for those looking for a Pro level OD with features that Really work. they owe it to themselves to check out a Dual Drive sometime.. OD pedals don't get any better than this...

Wow, the reviews already here have pretty much said it all... yeah, it's a deep pedal, and while it sounds great outta the box, a little time is necessary to work the four controls and pull-pot to match your amp/gtr. to maximum compatibilty & may take a wee little bit. But once you get it, lordy, there's not another overdrive out there that is so satisfying and so much an extension of your playing. It's got that kind of tweakability built-in for good reason.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using my Dual Drive with mostly vintage amps (Vox, Ampeg, Marshall) and with different HB and SC pickup combinations on various axes. Usually I have my amps set to edge of breakup and let the Dual Drive take me the rest of the way up the overdrive scale.
Once again, much has been said here already and the accolades are all well deserved: the Dual Drive is an overdrive for folks whom only the best will do.
The drive character is unique, I've never heard anything quite like it. Very smooth, clear, warm, hi-fi, punchy, controllable, muscular, pleasing... so many various adjectives since it's nearly all things at once.
Many OD's can be aggressive but thus too compressed, open but consequently not meaty enough, etc. The Dual Drive seems to have strictly the admirable qualities, and all at the same time. I can't believe it can be clear and aggressive and smooth and rippy all in one note or chord, but somehow it does.... a rare feat indeed!
The Dual Drive seems to be made to bring out the best qualities in your amp. The Clean channel almost acts like some kind of an amp enhancer, bringing out harmonics and richness and giving you a clean to crunch tone that sparkles, anywhere from a nice purr to a real growl. The Drive channel has some serious crunch for serious riffing and fat chords, and a singing lead quality should you go to solo or run lead lines. The channels share one master volume, but it seems that they were staged in a way that one can switch from clean to drive channel and not get an overwhelming level change -- instead the boost level is appropriate and in context.
But then again, I've left the DD turned on for a whole gig in the Drive channel and simply rode the gtr. volume for my cleans > crunch > lead tones and never missed a beat. It's got that much range and that much response.
Here's a laugh: one gig that I got at the last minute I was told there was a small tube combo there that I could use, no need to bring an amp. Turns out to be one of the newer solid-state Peavey amps! A small 1x12. Fortunately it had a decent amount of power and a good, if anemic clean tone (the distorted tone was unusable sludge). So my biggest fear was what would my crunch and lead tones be like for the gig, having no real 'tone' coming from the amp, would the drive on the DD sound too 'transitor' all alone w/o a tube in the signal path?
Well damn if the DD didn't give the Peavey a tube-tone all by itself! The difference was simply amazing and the gig saved for me. Maybe the 'tube-tone' came from the NOS Mullard tranny's Scotty uses... I don't know for sure, but I was so happy with the results.

Reliability : 10
Built like a brick @#&!-house and backed with pride by the builder. He only uses the best parts and makes his gear to be used on the road where boots and beer abound.
No, I have no worries.

Customer Support : 10
I own three other Pro Analog pedals and this makes four. I have always had a good laugh with Scotty on the phone and he answers all my questions thoroughly. He's got an acerbic wit and a wicked sense of humor... if you give him a call, don't be put off! He's bought, sold, repaired, & dissected nearly every pedal from the 60's and '70's (especially the British stuff) and is a treasure of info... so earn his respect, don't expect it simply because you are calling and his pedals happen to run on the higher side (well do you want a Mercedes or a Hyundai?). Seems like one reviewer below has it out for Scotty with his slight remarks... not suprising that he posted an 'anonymous' review. Not that one need post their name or handle on the web, hey that's cool, but if you're gonna slam someone, at least be accountable for it.
I never had a switch or electronic failure or anything at all go wrong with any of my Pro Analog pedz, but if I did, Scotty would back up the repair.

This pedal pretty much dials itself in. I love Scotty's controls because they seem suttle with change. There's not any drastic give or take when you turn a knob. The Dual Drive totally gives me what I hear when I plug straight into my amp. It's true bypass and just is a gem. I will never sale this thing!

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Fender Strat into a little Blues Deluxe Tweed. Just freakin rocks! And the Dual Drive just sounds seamless with my other pedals. One of which is a 60's Colorsound Wah that Scotty @ Pro Analog modded for me. It has a really good throw, and just is inspiring to use. "Scotty gave her all she had Capitan!"

I have mentioned this guy, Scotty, several times. He is the man that is Pro Analog. From the first time I called him, he was extreamly nice. A very down to earth guy, who is also a musician and gigs on the weekends. He also helped me get the wah pedal I was looking for. Original Colorsound Wahs are hard to come by, but Scotty came to bat.

The review below could speak for me. It would be redundant for me to repeat the majority of what that writer wrote so well. Simply put, the Dual Drive takes a little time to dial in but the time is well spent to find tones and touch not felt with any other OD pedal I have played.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using the pedal with old Fenders, Matchless, Vox and Marshall style amps. This pedal works seemlessly with these types of vintage amp designs. The Dual Drive is very organic and natural sounding. Not really shaped... no dips or bumps in the midrange and no cut or boost of the high and low frequencies. Very balanced! Using the amps mentioned above, the Dual Drive is great at dialing in classic 60's and 70's classic rock and blues tones. The Dual Drive is very reactive to your guitars volume and tone knobs. Works great with single coil guitars or buckers. I like it best with 12 volts or 18 volts DC input. The headroom opens the pedal up.

Reliability : No Opinion
Looks to be built as good or better than most pedals out there. I'm betting it will last much longer than I will.

Customer Support : 10
Scotty the owner of Pro Analog is a very straight ahead guy. He answered all my emails and phone calls quickly with very precise answeres. Scotty doesn't beat around the bush! He helped me understand what the Dual Drive was all about before trying to sell me on anything. As a matter of fact, he never tried to sell me on anything period. I chose to try his pedal based referrals from pro musicians, the information received from Scotty himself, a 48 hr money back test drive and the sound clips. The pedal did exactly what he said it will do and then some. The Dual Drive fits my needs perfectly in the overdrive department.

Overall Rating : 10
I play blues, classic rock and do a little flat picken from time to time. The Dual Drive works really well in the bands I am presently playing in. I have been looking for a pedal like this for years. The Dual Drive is a one of a kind. It's probably not for everybody but it works perfectly for my needs. It replaced two pedals on my pedalboard which made it a good value for me and it save some real estate on my pedalboard. I've owned more pedals than I would like to mention and just about every boutique OD flavor presently out there. They all sound good in some way or another but the Dual Drive simply sounds great across the board. It's hard to get a less than good sound out of it.

In one sense, it's easy to use because it's virtually impossible to get a bad sound out of this pedal. On the other hand, some of the magical stuff the Dual Drive imparts can be fairly subtle, so it takes a little quality time to really gain a sense of the tonal colors available. Nothing particularly tricky or misleading about it though. Basically you have two channels, a clean boost and a gain channel. The four knobs apply to both sides, but they affect the clean side in more subtle ways. The knobs are gain, treble, mid, and output level. Even with the treble knob dimed, there's no harshness in this pedal. Any and all settings yield something cool.

Sound Quality : 10
A high end guitar shop in Chicago that carries a wide range of boutique pedals describes the Dual Drive as the best overdrive ever (or something to that effect). I'm inclined to agree.

It is truly an amazing box. Just very, very musical. Scotty (the mad scientist behind Pro Analog) hand builds all of his pedals, tuning each one individually, and it shows. I'm lucky enough to also own two other Pro Analog devices, his MKII and Scary Face, and it'd be fair to describe each of these fuzzes as "best of breed." Consistently excellent. When it comes to wielding precious new old stock transistors with obsessive-compulsive authority, Scotty is simply The Guy.

Back to the Dual Drive, it's hard to explain how transparent, balanced and three-dimensional this thing is. Truly in a class of its own. That said, I really think this is a pedal best suited for pro-level players who have great tone in their hands. If you're the kind of player who truly goes for that last 2%, you'll probably appreciate the nuance and depth of the Dual Drive. If you're a so-so player who plays quietly in the basement as a hobby, I'd suggest you might not find this box worth the $300 it'll set you back. It's just not going to make that much of a difference.

It retains the personality of individual amps, pickups and guitars as well or better than anything I've ever played through. Major touch sensitivity.

Seems as if the Dual Drive started sounding better after a few weeks of use - I'm wondering if there's a burn-in period required before it really settles in. Seemed to open up and become more complex.

Reliability : 10
Hand made by a guy who cares, with high end parts used throughout. Heavy duty enclosure and switches. Not worried.

Customer Support : 9
Scotty is knowledgable but intense. If you appear to already have some sense of which way is up, he can be a wealth of information, very helpful. Has a deep knowledge of rock gear and history. Stands behind his stuff 100%.

Overall Rating : 10
A lifetime keeper pedal. I write, produce and play rootsy rock and pop/rock. I've been playing 30 years, do this for a living and own a fairly healthy array of vintage and boutique gear. Very little of my equipment is collectible, they're just my tools. I just keep what sounds good and inspires me. The Dual Drive is a great Swiss-Army pedal that gets used a lot in my world. I've turned friends onto it, and everybody that plays it ends up getting one. Seems to bump a lot of other boxes off of peoples' pedal boards.

Excellent clean boost and mid-gain overdrive in one bulletproof package, sounds like nothing else on the planet. What's not to love?
