1963 gibson sg >modded vox wah>mkII fuzz>boss dd-3>vox tonebender r.i>fender twin reverb. with lower fuzz settings ,almost a rangemaster type tone although through my twin it's almost too bright ,this pedal wants to scream through a marshall ,with my deville sounds good, just tweak the eq settings on my twin and i'm in page /beck heaven . roll back on your guitar volume and u get a million great tones ,cleans up beautifully ,very complex pedal ,but easy to get great sounds.you CANNOT go wrong with this pedal ,i reccomend oc-81 trannys if your looking for that velvety '70 zepp tone buy one, cant say enough about this godsend.

simply two knobs, very easy to dial in desired tone.

Sound Quality : 10
I play loud with a gibson es335 (antiquity humbuckers) through a 1963 fender showman head w/ jbl 115 cabinet, a twin reverb(jbl's),also a 1968 vox ac50 head w/ vox 212 cabinet(weber vst blue dog speakers). If you like 1960's trebly, organic fuzz, then this box is for you (think of beck-page yardbirds era, early bowie-mick ronson, davie allen, music machine, barry & the remains). If your looking for some low-end tone, you'd better try it out first. Basically, after i bought the mk2, i sold all of my vintage fuzz boxes-

Reliability : No Opinion
haven't had any problems yet and i've been touring with them for awhile.

Customer Support : 10
when bought my first mk2 i thought it was so great that i bought another(the 2nd equipped w/ oc81 transistors). scotty was very helpful and actually called me to see how i liked the box, that says something. just tell him what set-up you have and what tone your looking for and he'll build it for you, he's great.By the way, i highly recommend the oc-81 transistors.

Overall Rating : 10
i've always loved that classic fuzz sound and this box nails it on the head.

Couldn't be easier to use, 2 knobs Level and Gain. Mine has the same design and uses Germanium transistors like the original. Changing battery (only runs on a 9v).

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using this with a Fender Reissue Tele and a Vox AC30TB. I bought the MKII for the Zeppelin sound and it delivers, but it seems to have some other possibilities combined with the AC30's own. It's a little noisy, but passes with flying colors.

Reliability : 10
It is built like a tank, and wired well.

Customer Support : 10
This guy is easy to deal with. I can't imagine any difficulty getting things taken care of if I needed support.

Overall Rating : 10
I play power-pop and this pedal works great on single note lines, I haven't got much out of it with chords though. I would definitely buy one again. It would be nice if it parted with tradition a little and had a tone knob like an MKIII, also an input for use with an power supply, and a led light. I heard good things about this pedal and I think it's worth to own.

Level and Gain. It doesn't get any easier!

Sound Quality : 10
This is the Page sound when the amp is turned up. It sounds great when used with a small 8 inch speaker. If you like Led Zeppelin then you will love this pedal.

Reliability : 10
The pedal is fairly quiet and is very reliable for recording. I wished it were a little more gated, but for the most part it's very reliable.

Customer Support : 10
Scotty is a good guy to know. I had him upgrade a re-issued Colorsound Tonebender and I also purchased one of Scotty?s original MKII?s. He gave me a great deal. He?s trustworthy.

Overall Rating : 10
I been playing for 20 years. I use the MKII for recording. It has the vintage sound. Nobody makes a pedal like this anymore! This pedal sounds amazing and I highly recommend owning one while you can.

Two controls - level and gain (very simple). Unfortunately, I cannot get a good fuzz tone out of this thing, regardless of settings. I matched this with three original Professional MKII's and this thing is a lousy wannabe clone. If this pedal were a car it would be comparable to a YUGO.

Sound Quality : 1
Used with strats and LP's, into vintage Marshall and Fender amps - crappy results with all of them. I have a couple of old fuzz pedals from the early 70's that sound bad too, but in a good way....this fuzz sounds lacks bottom and with the gain turned up it's completely unusabe. You're better off buying a Roger Mayer product or a Rat pedal than this piece of junk. Scotty, you missed it on this one. This is a terrible product. It will be sold on ebay in the near future with a warning "Sold as is."

Reliability : 2
The case ok...I thought it was going to be an MXR case. The input/output jacks are stiff and could be a problem. The only thing decent about this thing are the transisters! You will have to modify this pedal for a gig. It's really not usable in it's original set-up. Rugged so far....The casing, switch, and pots seem adequate.

Customer Support : 1
Customer service sucks. It took this guy six weeks to ship it. Plus, I got turned off with his arrogance. If I asked a question, I was given a sarcastic useless remark.

Overall Rating : 1
I play a wide variety of music from rock to jazz
to funk to blues. I would never used this for anything. It would be impossible to get a decent tone with this thing. If this pedal got stolen, I would not miss it. You're better off buying an original and not some cheap clone. It sounds nothing like an original and that's the truth. The people that gave this effect a high rating must have never heard an original.

Ease of Use : 10
It has 2 knobs: Gain & Level, so if you can't figure that out, go back to plugging straight into the amp!
Kidding aside, the pedal has a LOT of gain on tap and fortunately, a lot of volume (Level) too, so that you can reach unity or boost levels on a lot of different settings and combinations.

Sound Quality : 10
Using the MkII with different guitars (P90-loaded Gibson, Jazzmaster, Danelectro RI, etc.) thru Vox amps (AC15, AC30). Has a very good sensitivity to single-coil gutiars, have yet to use it with 'buckers. First in line on an evolving pedalboard, though sometimes using the MkII all by its lonesome. It is no noisier than any other fuzzes I have tried and is generally quieter than the majority of them.

I have yet to try another Tonebender-type fuzz pedal, so it'd be tough for me to compare it to others, but really, I don't care to look for another, as I am COMPLETELY sold on this one. The MkII is an instrument onto itself. Has so many shades of color relevant to your picking technique and in particular, to your guitar volume. It kills as the fattest rhythm overdrive tone with the guitar volume rolled back to about 5-6. In this setting it produces thick, juicy bass that doesn't get that flabby bottom many fuzzes do, a rich and balanced midrange, plus tons of sparkle on top as the notes ring with a very organic crunch that sounds so pleasing and inspirational. With gtr. volume rolled down even further to around 1-2, it still produces a good amount of level and is deceptively loud for such a low setting. At this point it has cleaned up rather nicely (though it is not AS clean as a Fuzz Face-type of clean... no biggie), with an almost acoustic gtr. type of shimmer happening, certainly producing more highs and presence than the gtr/amp produces with the pedal off... very cool! With the gain cranked, yeah, there it is, singing lead tones that sustain for about as long as you'd like them to. Produces some uncannily familiar tones at this point, very vintage, very late-60's. I don't own a Tele, but did borrow a friend's one night and ran the Tele Relic and MkII into the AC15 and, wow, I have to admit, Pagey tones were available in spades. Made me want to go out and get a Tele and mind you, I don't need anymore gear at this point.

The MkII likes to get your full attention and would rather be the only thing between the gtr and amp. It shines the most in this application since gtr>pedal>amp impedences are ideal at this point and you can really get the purest touch-sensitivity and finger expressiveness from your rig... like I said earlier, the MkII being more or less an instrument onto itself, with tones continually changes as you vary gtr. level, gtr. tone knob, picking levels, etc. BUT I am way too much a fan of pedals to go without the perpetual colors of a phaser, delay, overdrive etc. in line. So I am happy to say that the MkII also works very well with other pedals, certainly as long as you place it first in-line after the guitar. I am particularly infatuated with the MkII stacked into my Menatone TBIAC, with delay to follow and guitar volume to taste. I have cut a few tracks with this setup and have always been very pleased with the playback.

Just a thrilling pedal. I also bought Scotty's Scary Face, equally an amazing pedal that gets even fatter tones and that cleans up like you are plugged direct... but I am a Tonebender fuzz junky fer sher and keep the Scary Face for recording only at this point. Would love to check out his Treble Booster as well.

Reliability : 10
Well Scotty is extremely opinionated, knowledgeable, stubborn, detailed and a whole slew of other things that lead me to believe that he knows exactly what he is doing and that he will back up this pedal for as long as I own it. Looking inside, it is very well built, using only the best quality jacks, pots, and of course the exact NOS parts that the "correct" Tonebender-type fuzz calls for. With this type of build quality, I don't anticipate needing his services, but if I do I expect him to deliver da' goods, especially since it wasn't exactly cheap in the first place.

Customer Support : No Opinion
see above

Overall Rating : 10
I waited a while to but Scotty's pedz since I thought they were expensive and there are cheaper options out there, but really, 9.9 times out of 10 you get what you pay for and the quality and expertise he puts into his pedals is clearly evident once you play them. I am not interested in coming on here to pump up a piece of gear for whatever dishonest purpose and refuse to do that kind of thing. He offered a fair trial/return period and that was enough for me to take the plunge. Once I plugged the MkII in, I have never once regretted the purchase.

Very simple to use -- two controls: gain and level. All settings are useful, it just depends on the amount of gain and sustain you are looking for.

Sound Quality : 10
This is where the MKII really shines. Sweet, smooth, nasty, biting -- its all there depending on how you manipulate your guitar tone, volume and pickup settings. I use the MKII with a relic Telecaster, Strat and a Carvin HF2 into a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp. It loves both single coil and humbuckers.

I like the gain at around 1:00 for a classic, sweet, and nasty sound. Higher gain levels are also quite fun and the sustain is plentiful, musical and smooth.

All the classic sounds are there: early Page, Beck, etc., but I am also able to coax "Revolver" era Beatle and early Santana sounds out of it as well -- as I said you need to experiment with your guitar settings. I love pedals like this that are simple and versatile.

Scotty's stuff has a sonic "glow" to it -- brassy and complex. Its hard to explain.

Reliability : 10
Very well made, compact and solid -- extremely neat wiring inside.

Customer Support : 10
Scotty is a great communicator, always responds to my emails and is very friendly, knowledgeable, and has a good sense of humor. I had a small problem about 7 months after getting the pedal, Scotty told me to send the MKII to him, fixed it and got it back to me in about two weeks after receiving it -- no excuses, no BS. That in itself speaks volumes. He stands behind these 100%.

Overall Rating : 10
I play classic rock (60's and early 70's) and have been playing for almost 30 years now (jeez, am I really that old? ...) When I began getting serious about classic fuzz and distorition tones a few years ago, I checked out numerous "Tonebender"-type boutique pedals and this one had them all beat. It has a richness and smoothness others lack. Well worth the $$$ I would buy another without hesitation.

intuitive, level and attack. interactive controls..attack controls the bite and degree of fuzz.

Sound Quality : 9
this is the re-creation of Page and Beck's searing lead sounds, with layers of harmonics and multiple sound character depending on your settings and pick attack..sing, compression, dynamics and sweet mixed with mean unruly overtones. needs a turned up amp, and tube amps ( the simpler the better..one channel turned up to get some output tube drive also). this isn't a preamp type pedal. these are individually tuned and biased for the authentic sound of the original units. this sounds just like my original tonebender pedal.

Reliability : 8
the pedal is fairly quiet, and has been reliable. I have had a transistor go bad occassionally on these type pedals, one of the prices to pay with the NOS Mullard transistors.Germanium is ewssential, and the Mullard series is essential to the tone.Sometimes germanium can vary it's sound and gain traits if the temperature etc changes, but for the most part it's very reliable.

Customer Support : 9
Scotty is very good at making sure his stuff does the job for people and has a great ear for individually tuning these pedals for the authentic sound.

Overall Rating : 9
been playing 25 years of rock/blues and like the aggressive late 60's early 70's sounds. This pedal is an essential item for my playing.Outstanding tone character and power. you have to turn the amp up to let the juices flow..these transistors love the simple tube amp circuits. also goes well into a good delay pedal. don't put any non true bypass pedals in front of it unless they are turned on.

Two knobs: Level and gain. Very easy to get a great sound out of it.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using the MKII w/Strats, Les Pauls, and Telecasters into a clean Fender Deluxe or Pro Reverb or a Lab Series L5 (2 x 12 Solid State). Sounds great into all three whether tube or solid state. There isn't any noise until the gain knob hits 3 o'clock and even then it's very quiet as compared to other fuzz peds. Anyway, when you're playing there isn't any noise and that's what counts. I've had the Yardbox and Soulbender which are also based on the Tonebender. I definitely prefer the MKII. It just sounds authentic. When I play through I immediately think Jimmy Page. One thing I really like is that it seems to be very sensitive to pick attack which is something I haven't found in other fuzzes. With a soft attack it's very smooth with lots of sustain. As you dig in with the pick it gets raunchier, squawky, and rude. Another thing I noticed is that as you crank the volume of your amp it just gets fatter and bigger sounding. It sounds very good into other effects. For me it is one of those rare effects that is fun to play with and makes me want to play more. Definitely check out the Proanalog website to find out about what makes the MKII special from transistors to how it is tested and tuned.

Reliability : 9
I've had it for about a week. Looks very well built. Nice and light aluminium enclosure.

Customer Support : 10
Really excellent support from the time I ordered the pedal to even after I received the pedal. I ordered the pedal after reading some threads on Musictoyz.com. Scotty is definitely a cool dude. He gave me a little background about himself, the MKII and why it's superior to the competition, and some info on Tonebenders. You can tell the guy knows his stuff. He's really knowledgeable and enthusiastic when he talks about effects. He asked me about what guitars and amps I use and described the different transistor options and how they sound. He then made some suggestions for transistor types that would work well with my rig. He's also straight forward about the time it takes to get the pedal to me. He estimated three to four weeks. I Emailed him after three weeks to find out the status of the pedal. He Emailed me back the same day and stated that it would probably take another week because he was waiting on parts. I checked again a week later. He said he was out of the particular transistor I was looking for and offered the option of upgrading to an OC-81D (usually $25 bucks more) for free and to get the pedal out the next day. I received the pedal three days later and it totally rocked! Anyway, Scotty called up a couple of days later to find out how I liked the pedal and if there were any problems. The only other pedal maker that did that was Vlad from Lovetone. Top notch service.

Overall Rating : 9
I play classic rock and some psychedelic rock and this pedal is the shit. I've been playing for 18 years. I'd definitely buy it again f it were lost or stolen. The thing I love about it is the sound. I hate nothing about it. I compared it to the Yardbox and the Soulbender and I preferred the MKII. What makes it stand out is the way it reacts to picking dynamics. With the Yardbox and Soulbender everything sounds the same whether soft or hard. The only thing I wish it had is more permanent labling. It has label stickers on it and they'll probably scratch off eventually. It definitely helps me make music because it has THE sound.

Ease of Use : 10
Very easy with only two controls yet they offer a wealth of tone from warm fuzz to over the top sweet '60's fuzz that seems to take a 1note hold it for a split second and magically add a beautiful harmonic bloom.

Sound Quality : 10
I have owned many boutique fuzz clones including Fulltone '69 and '70, two different beasts with NKT275's in the first, BC-108 silicon transistors in the other. I have also owned an Analog Man Sun Face which was too swampy and also very noisy plus had major radio frequency interference problems. I have also owned the Fulltone Soulbender and PE Yardbox which are also trying to do the Sola Sound MkII Professional Tobne Bender. This magic pedal from the hands of Scotty is simply the BEST at that sound, period.

Reliability : 10
I have only had it for a short time and it will rest gently on a pedal tray in my shock-mount rack, but I know that Scotty would repair it perfectly if anything happened to it. I am more concerned about losing the pedal since it has one of the last Mullard OC-81D transistors available from him- pretty hard to replace.

Customer Support : 10
The best ever, this guy knows and either owns, has owned or can locate all of the best classic vintage pedals ever available as well as some amazing boutique pedals including some early stuff from the likes of Fulltone.

Overall Rating : 10
Just get one, play your favorite Les Paul or Strat into a great tube amp, ie. Marshall Plexi or Fender Bassman and this is the classic Zep, Jeff Beck, etc. sound heard on countless classic British rock records of the late '60's.
