very simple operation - 2 knobs volume and fuzz, and i think you could lose the fuzz dial and just run it on full, dialing in the fuzz from your guitar. but then i dont really like ge fuzzes much below 6 or 7 out of 10 anyway - maybe i'm a cretin, but they all sound to farty to me in that lower gain range.

this is much better to match with amps and other pedals than some other ge fuzzes

Sound Quality : 9
fantastic sound - less totally saturated and a bit more ragged than some, but that is a big plus, giving more character and better definition. moderate noise levels for this type of pedal.

i have 5 ge fuzzes - this, fulltone 69, Lovepedal BBB, addrock Geranium and a retroman nu fuzz. I like this and the BBB best. the BBB has much more output and a denser smoother sound. both are great, just different textures.

I have a few good amps and it works great with all of them. a really classic tone voiced really well.

my only gripe is it could use just a little more output. most of the time i run output very close to full and it can get overwhelmed by some other pedals

Reliability : 9
great so far

n/a for me

see above. for a really classic ge fuzz with great character I would go for this every day. superior in my opinion to the fulltone, retroman and addrock. still havent tried a sun face, but cant imagine its better than this.

do you care what i play? probably not, but they ask anyway. everything from hendrix to scofield, mclaughlin to zappa, zeppelin to king crimson. great for some of that stuff - completely inappropriate for others.

this is one of the 2 fuzzes i wld buy again if lost/broken.

wish it had more output, but really a lovely pedal to work with.

great sounds abound from this box. it is very easy to find anything from boost to heavy sustaining fuzz. cleans up well when you back off on the guitar volume pot.

Fender '68 reverse strat w marshall jtm 45 r.i. (mercury magnetics output tranny, rebiased with kt-66 tubes). This pedal has the highest gain of any germanium fuzz that I own, this allows me to back off the fuzz pot and use it as a boost (ala rangemaster) or a overdrive (you know, the ic ones). Turning the fuzz pot up, and using the volume to either side of 12 o'clock, yields either a thinner or very full almost rolled off high fuzz. I love this pedal.

Reliability : 10
I opened it up, top quality parts. included polarity protection circuitry, to protect the transistors. a battery eliminator dc jack is negative tip which is very convenient as most wall warts are that way. Fulltone pedals are positive tip for the '69 fuzz with pnp ge transistors. Fuzz is an integral part of my sound, I do not worry that the pedal would fail.

Scotty is a great guy to deal with. He always does what he says he's gonna do and in today's world that goes a very long way. I've purchased several vintage pedals and have three of his Proanalog boxes. He is very knowledgeable, and friendly

I've been playing for 30 years, I seek out equipment to make it easier to express myself.I made my own fuzz pedals for a while, buy the nos Ge transistors from the U.K., match them, etch the board, mount the components. Some of the fuzzes I made sounded brittle, thin, good but not enough gain and a couple of exceptional pedals came out. Scotty has taken the trial and error out of what makes a good two germanium transistor fuzz. It is a bargain, considering what a vintage fuzz face sells for.

Like your typical Fuzz Face, the Scary Face has a volume knob and a distortion knob. Unlike a lot of germanium-transistor Fuzz Faces, however, it's very easy to get good tones out of it, from just-breaking-up to full on fuzz and that creamy sort of sound you get when you use a cranked Fuzz Face in front of a Marshall.

Sound Quality : 10
I tested the piece with a number of instruments, both humbuckers and single-coils, in front of a number of amps, including both Fenders and Marshalls (and a Peavey!). With a Strat through a Marshall, you can get the usual earlier Hendrix tones quite easily (hint: DON'T crank the distortion knob). It cleans up well with the volume knob on the guitar, too, which is nice.

This one is built off of an old Roger Mayer Fuzz Face, in a spaceship case, and it seems pretty rugged. Absolutely my only concern about it would be that it uses rare NOS OC-44 transistors, so, I might not gig with it for fear of something damaging those. (What would, I don't know -- that's a paranoia issue!)

Scotty's a great guy to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10
I play mostly bluesy stuff, but I collect effects pedals and share them with friends for use in the studio, etc. I've long had a strong preference for silicon-transistor Fuzz Faces because they tend to be more reliable and consistent. The best Ge-transistor Fuzz Faces I'd tried before were hybrids. On the Scary Face, Scotty uses hand-matched NOS Ge transistors and makes sure that everything sounds the way it should. With Fuzz Faces in general, and germanium-transistor ones in particular, the sound is a bit of a crap-shoot. There are other boutique ones that are good, but Scotty's are unique in the way he hand-tunes each one so you can be sure to get a great one. He's got a fantastic ear for good distortion. Basically, this is a germanium-transistor Fuzz Face done right.

2 knobs, fuzz and volume with true bypass switch.Housed in a small mxr type box perfect!!

Sound Quality : 10
Pauls,k 335's and Strats in to a 1970 Superlead. This is the sound I've been waiting for, the perfect smooth organic fuzz face tone and I've owned and tried way too many including Fulltone MJM Zvex and many others . It has been said before but I truely believe my search is over!!! After 15 minutes I was able to pull a variety of tones just with the volume knob on my guitar no amp/pedal fiddling.Cleans up Hendrix like, snarls Gibbons like, all in all simplicity at it's finest.

Reliability : 10
Solid construction but I do want another for the love of it.
