It's a one-knobber, so it's real easy to use. Just pick a level which sufficiently boosts your amp to the desired tone and wham, you're there!

I am using the Top-Boost with a variety of single-coil (Jazzmaster, P-90 Firebird, G&L ASAT) & humbucking (Filtertron-loaded Gretsch, Tele Deluxe, Historic Les Paul) pickups. These go either directly into vintage Vox and Ampeg amps (for a pure tone) or into a pedalboard loaded with vintage and boutique pedals. I've also used it in the studio into some non-master volume Marshalls with stellar results.
The sound is exactly what you were hoping for. That sweet accentuation of some upper-level frequencies, combined with an harmonic complexity, makes your tone sparkle and come alive like nothing else I've heard to date. Nails classic-rock lead tones, ranging from Brian May (especially with the normal channel of an AC30) to Rory Gallagher & Clapton & others. Totally cops the vintage vibe of the late-60's early-70's... but in a pure sense, it could have many modern applications as well with it's unique ability to cut thru a dark mix.
The Top-Boost achieves this w/o adding those spiky ice-chill highs that make you cringe. Although it gives you a nice cut and presence, it does so in a pleasing but powerful way. Has a healthy dB boost as well that you can dial in to make the front-end of your tube amp cook up just right. Scotty uses an exacting calibration and selection of NOS Germanium transistors to ensure the tone is dead-on.
I've owned and sold the Diaz Rangemaster (with hi-mid-lo boost) and the Butler Rangemaster. The Diaz was practical with the switchable EQ points but didn't have the mojo of the Proanalog. The Butler had the vintage tone, but not as much dB boost on tap and not as much hair on the notes.

The Top-Boost is in a no-frills, rock solid box with hi-quality jacks firmly mounted directly to the case. The switch also appears to be hi-quality and easy replaceable should it be damaged, as are the components inside easily repaired should a problem arise. Kinda' like looking under the hood of a 60's muscle car: simple, efficient, powerful. But repairs aren't a worry, the pedal is roadworthy, made to be played and built to last. Plus Scotty stands behind his work.

Call Scotty from Proanalog up and be prepared for a lesson in vintage gear. The guy knows his stuff like no other and is not for the faint of heart. He's owned, examined, and repaired nearly every piece from the golden age of guitar gear (50's-60's). He holds his work up to the highest standard and expects the same from his clientele. At the same time, the guy's got a wicked sense of humor and may leave you in tears.... be prepared to be challenged!
Proanalog is the essence of boutique gear, and one of the very best in the business.

The Top Boost is about as easy as it comes--one knob.

Ibanez Artstar(335 clone) with EMG85's or a Klein BF-86 with Joe Bardens into the Top Boost, Voz Wah, TC Electronics Chorus, Morley Volume Pedal, Lovetone Doppleganger Phaser, Lovetone Wobulator Tremelo, Line 6 Delay, Focusrite preamp/compressor/parametric eq, Lexicon MPX500 for Reverb, into a Vox AC30 and/or a MesaBooogie Subway Rocket. Sometimes I skip most of that stuff and use only the Top Boost into an amp. The Top Boost sounds terrific. It adds lots of harmonic content, high end, and a little grit all in a very pleasant way. It shines when playing with a band in that it 'cuts through' beautifully. This is not a tube emulator sort of overdrive like a Tube Screamer, nor is it a fuzz or distortion petal. I can be used with a driven tube amp to produce those wonderful overdrive sounds of Brain May, Rory Gallagher, and early Eric Clapton. I use it to add a raw, singing quality to my sound.

This pedal shines when used with a high gain amp and humbuckers (for me a soldano hot rod 50 and gibson custom shop hollow les paul). When engaged, it produces a full bodied boost causing the amp to distort in a very smooth harmonically pleasing way. Rolling back on the volume pot gets the sound to clean up .

I opened the unit up, all components are of good to best quality. I am not the kind of person to have no back up,
The components in the pedal are of good to best quality. Germanium devices can be finicky though.

Scotty is a very nice and knowledgable guy. He has seen and heard alot the vintage stuff and made it his business to find out why it sounds the way it does. When I got the pedal he called me, and gave recommendations on how to use it . He also told me if anything ever went wrong just send it back and he'd take care of it, very professional.

I've played electric guitar for 30 years, getting the right sound has always been a source of joy and at times utter frustration. I have a'71 Marshall Super Lead,'68Fender Tremolux,Mesa Formula Preamp w/VHT 2/50/2 tube power amp and a mesa Mk IV. I use a two amp (clean /dirty) set-up. I bought some vintage wahs from Scotty and we were talking fuzzes, vintage vs. new(boutique) .He is using the same NOS transistors ,applying what he has learned from dealing with the great vintage pedals, that it dawned on me I should buy the ones he makes. He has gotten it down to science and for added measure he plays them all before boxing for shipping.

One knob for gain makes this pedal the perfect boost. It gave me the treble boost sound that I have been trying to get out of a TS808 and the Guild Brian May box without perfect results. It was real easy to find the sweet spot for every guitar and amp I tried it with.

It was real easy to get a great tone out of a Lester,6120 or a tele through an Vox ac30. Thinking that just about everything sounds great through this setup I tried it with a Bassman reissue and some old Supros and it took the sound over the top (in a good way!). Real musical sounding and not too brittle like the Guild box.I need to get alot of different sounds because of studio and live gigs and this little box will be a mainstay in my pedal board.

I trust no one when it comes to designer pedals or amps until they prove themselves. I immediately opened up the pedal after buying it to see how well it was made.......this thing is a tank! The only problem I have is the battery bounces around and I remindied this by putting in a piece of foam. Scotty has since informed me that they have corrected this problem.

I've dealt with Proanalog and Scotty on some pedals through the years and he really knows his stuff. I was pleased to hear that he was making pedals of his own. Very helpful and professional.

Just one knob a switch and in/out jacks...
This one is a prototype and sounds are plentyful with the turn of a knob on this box. Should be connected right after the Guitar.

Sounds great with single coil or humbucker guitars. I use both but prefer single coils. For fullest dynamic function use valve amplifiers. This is essentially a Rangemaster. Functions are simple and sound is incredible...full spectrum coverage...top to bottom...unlike many others. There is no weakness with this effect...it definately gets you THERE! Everybody knows who used these type of boosters....enough said.

With such a simple circuit and rugged cast aluminum enclosure, not much can go wrong besides battery replacement. The jacks are switchcraft...premium and tight. If it were stolen...I'd get another one and mod it with LO JACK!

I play rock music in it's various forms and this unit took me a step up from where I was in terms of tone. The Top Boost really drives my amp into harmonic heaven. There is not anything that I don't like about it. I will definately do business with Scott again.
