Volume, Tone & Fuzz controls provide easy use and great sounds out of the box. Compared to my ZVex Fuzz Factory (which I love) the Monster Fuzz is a pleasure to use. Nothing unusable in the available sounds, it just comes down to what suits you.

The sweet spot for me is 11 o'clock on the Tone and 2 o'clock on the Fuzz. I get a thich, creamy, almost octave down tone. This really is tone heaven. As stated before , it's easy to dial in a range of usable tone. I wouldn't say your classic fuzzes are in this box, but thats not what it's about or marketed as.

All hand built, I've opened it up and all looks solid except the battery is wedged between the wall and footswitch. It had worked loose in shipping. No damage but still, a little annoying. I emailed Dennis at Pro Tone, he said he'll be correcting this in future models.

I'm a lounge room legend that likes to noodle around but wouldn't mind getting back in a band one day. I have a Fender Hot rod Deluxe and Marshall AVT50 combo and play a 57 Strat and Les Paul Classic loaded with SD Alnico Pro II's. This peadl provides teh goods regardless of the combination. I'm happy with this pedal and will remain plugged in for a long time.
Im giving it a 10 as it closer to a 10 than a 9. The lack of a battery holder is more an issue for gigging muso's but there should be one inside just in case.
This is the first in a series of Monster pedals with custom graphics by Felix LaFlamme. This is one of the best looking pedals around.

I also own Pro Tone's "Starfire Fuzz" and this is a different beast altogether. The tone is different than the "Starfire" so it's another useful texture.
It goes from a kind of crappy fuzz (but the kind of "crappy" that I use for an effect, NOT a bad thing) and sweeps to a dense, kind of disgusting (again, a good thing) fuzz that breaks up like it's going to explode. There's also a bunch of sweet, creamy tones in between.
I can't explain exactly what the tone does with the fuzz control but it's cool. The tone control acts differently depending on where the fuzz control is at. VERY cool. I like the fuzz around 4 o'clock with the tone cranked up. Another cool thing is when the fuzz is around 4:00 to all the way up it introduces more bass, which is why I like to crank the tone up for high end grit with a fat bottom end. Just beautiful, really. You can get those dark, "Fudge Tunnel" tones by backing off the tone knob, too. Another True bypass pedal and nice and quiet while on...Dennis asked me if it was "too gated" so he's got something going on in there. NOT a gate where it slams shut, but...I don't know, I love it.

The track record of all the other pedals I have from Pro Tone is fine so I have no problem or worries of gigging without a back up.

"voodooNOUVEAU" uses alot of different tones from song to song, even verse to chorus and it's again, another useful texture. Not to mention the artwork from Felix LaFlamme is awesome...GREAT eyecandy, great style!
I compared it to a bucnh of other fuzz boxes and it really chews them up and destroys them in versatilty, tone and brutality. Crushes the Big Muff and even the Double Big Muff.
It's hand built so the value is amazing, too.
