Gain & Tone knobs. Simple.

Sound Quality : 7
The Wide Tread has a fat smooth boost sound. Compared side by side with My T Jauernig Atomic FET Boy, the FET Boy is more articulate, you can hear the note definition and sparkle. The Wide Tread is a smoother more bassy, midrangy heavy sound. I can see why this could work well for Bass Guitar also. Not noisy unless behind a noisy effect, then it will boost noise of preceding effect. The Wide Tread actually drops your volume until it's cranked past 9 or 10 O clock or so, but plenty of boost available after that. Use this with a tube amp to get your tubes singing, or to blast your distortion pedal.

Reliability : No Opinion
Only had it for a couple weeks. Rather plain box and graphics. Internally, seems well made.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No occasion to deal with Protone

Overall, a good boost that definately has it's own character. A smooth, fat boost, should work for Bass guitar also. I got it on closeout, and for the price it was a steal.

Super easy two knob job. Gain and Tone. I won't insult your intelligence by explaining what they do.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using this with two rigs. one bass and one guitar. The bass is a 60's solid body Hofner(with McCartney bass pickups and controls) into the pedal then into a early '70s Sunn Concert Bass coupled to a '70s Traynor 6x10 cab. Sounds killer! If you're familiar with those sunn heads you know they have a unique distortion/fuzz thing of their own going on and this just gives it more depth and clartiy. The tone control is great! so nice to have more control over your driven sound. this thing really makes my bass rig scream!
Guitar setup is a '60s supro ranchero w/ neck pos DeArmond tuned open for slide(no, actually the action isn't jacked) into the pedal then into a '50s silvertone Meteor 1x6 tube amp. I Really liked the tones I got out of it. Terrific not articulation, warmth and depth. This pedal is designed to work for everything across the board and I am personally not dissapointed at ALL! I bought this thing mainly for bass and am sure that's the practice spot in which it will live since it rules on bass BUT, i definitley had a s#*t eating grin on my face while I was playing slide!

Reliability : 8
when I got it from pedalgeek it wasn't working properly. it would drop the gain and volume almost in half when turned on dimed with a tested fresh battery. I sent it back, Dennis fixed the problem and now i'm happy. All the wiring and components are well placed, there is a battery clasp to keep your 9-volt from banging into stuff, top shelf jacks and switch, burly box....Don't really see any problems on the horizon.

Customer Support : 10
Dennis rocks! Lets you know whats going on in a friendly proffesional manner, and makes Your problem HIS problem. Turnaround time for the fix was VERY quick. 8 days from the day I shipped it usps expedited it was back to my house.

I play bass in a heavy rock/punk/metal type of thing and do solo slide quitar stuff on the side as well. I've been playing for about twenty years and have several additional off brand short scale basses(kay, harmony, national) a couple other hollow body guitars(silvertone, harmony) an Acoustic 220 bass head, '70s 1x15 Yamaha bass amp and a crazy Alamo 2x10 guitar amp. other pedals:pedalworx neodrive, hao rustdriver, prescription yardbox.

if I had bought this for guitar use only, human nature being what it is, i would probably try something else. Crikey there's HUNDREDS of new boost pedals on the market! It's my tone, i'll never quit looking for something better and neither should you! I really liked it with guitar though!

Love it for bass! I've been looking for a killer bass boost for awhile and this one is the best so far. it's not a Hogs Foot clone(which is good for me) and just really makes my stuff come alive. I'm an intricate "pick"er and chord player on bass and this thing makes each note sing, chords are thick and audible and string bends sound better then they should be allowed to! At this point I would replace it if lost or stolen, definitley. However if given time, I will still try everything available just in case there is something better out there. You never know 'till you try!

i like the simple aesthetics of the graphics alot, but that's one a#*holes opinion. The controls are great, again, love the tone control! If I could change anyting about this pedal it would be to reverse the color scheme(to white on black) and somehow magically make it fit inside an MXR sized box(probably not possible with the two pots), I don't know why though i just like that size of stomp box.

Super great effect regardless, but for the price i'd call it a steal
