You can get any kind of distortion out of this pedal. From Overdrive to really low crunching sounds. It's great. A little hum though but whe your playing it disappears.

It's built like a tank, all steel. I couldn't break it if I wanted to.

I love my RAT, and I wouldn't trade it for any other distortion pedal on the market, it can't be beat. I would definately buy it again.

This is THE greatest distortion pedal ever made. Tone is of a maxed out Marshall. Very dynamic. Can go from almost clean to over the top dirty by changing you guitar volume. Even when the sound is dirty, notes retain their character and even dissonant chords sound ok (Jazz great John Scofield has one and keeps it ON all the time).

Built like a tank. Knobs are good, and pots have a heavy feel to them.

The RAT I have is the second generation small square box, which I think is the best sounding one. Beware of the reissues. I'd buy it again. I love to use it before a wah pedal. John Sco, Jeff Beck, and many others use the RAT as their only distortion box. They can't be all wrong.

Simple. Three controls: Volume, Tone and Distortion.ALthough the foot switch is a bit bulky, but it makes a clean crisp break. If you want a lot of different distortions then look no further.

At first I bought a Zoom 2020, but was disappointed with the disortion when playing with humbuckers, plus the front end gain could only go so far. So I got myself a Rat. I couldn't believe my ears. I could shift from the bass driven big muff style distortion to a clean crisp overdrive with ease. My zoom also helped gain a cool sound. I programmed a clean flanger sound, with no depth, and used the rats distortion with it, to produce the coolest distortion of all time. You also get great control over feedback, it like, reads your mind.

You could throw it agains a brick wall, set fire to it, run a tank over it, and it wouldn't even have a scratch on it.

Three Buttons: Tone, Volume, Distortion...
Anybody can use, and you can shift the knobs easy with your foot for quick tone changes.

The best distortion I've ever heard and lots of variation if you need it. However, it does buzz a little, but buzz is what distortion is all about! If You don't want buzz, get some cheesy digital effects with compression etc...and join Poison.

I don't much use the tone control option, but the volume and distortion combination do everything I need and more. Easy to see in the dark, and simple to slam when you're going strong.

Beautiful. This distortion is tighter than anything I've played yet. Definately a good sound to play with before you try your next pedal. Slight buzz, but it gets lost in the guitar sound when you play.

You could use this in a bar fight, and still finish the show. This guy doesn't even blink. Totally solid. Eats batteries, though.

It was definitely not my thing. Probably better for single-string lead work than any kind of chords.
