Grey box with hot pink text. Retro and cool. Controls for Level, Tone and Distortion. Stereo outs. No bad sounds in this pedal. Interestingly, the 2 dudes who reviewed Profile's Distortion pedal are probably reviewing the DST-5 but have no concept of tone. they are going for metal sounds and using Samick amplifiers. Dudes, stay away from this pedal if you're into metal. If you appreciate really good tone and already have sensational clean tone, you will want this pedal.

Awesome sound. I'm a fan of vintage Jap pedals like the old TS-9, SD-9, 808 etc. This is probably made by Ibanez - it has very similar cosmetics and colors as my old Ibanez CPL compressor (great comp.) Like the CPL it is transparent and doesn't destroy the tone I've worked hard to achieve. I play the blues and this pedal is the bomb. Very natural distortion with just the right amount of boost, not harsh sounding at all. I use Fender amps and an old Goldentone head. This pedal gets a lot of use because it sounds like natural output tube distortion. It does not sound like a triple-rectifier, more like a low wattage amp on 10. Excellent rock and blues sounds.

Reliability : 10
No problems. As dependable as any 9 series Ibanez. Looks like a Vintage Ibanez pedal and sounds as good as anything out there. The salesman didn't know what this was. I stole it for $100. It's old and beaten up but awesome. Super bright LED and warm, warm, warm!!!! Probably made in the 70's or 80's and still running like an old Hemi.

This is the best blues pedal I've had. Kills the blues. If you find one, buy it. People don't know what it is and probably assume that its cheap and nasty. I gotta tell ya, it's anything but cheap and nasty. Liquid smooth, natural, warm distortion from just a hint of bite to balls out rock.

This is a Vintage Japanese Profile DST-5 distortion pedal. I found it lying neglected at the back of a cupboard in a pawn shop. It looked like it had potential so I plugged it in and then tried very hard to contain my glee before the salesman. Took it away for $40. Upon arriving home I confirmed the strong suspicion that I had - the famous JRC4558 chip. This pedal is smooooooth.

I have a number of top of the line distortion pedals - Barber Tone Pump, Barber Direct Drive, AnalogMan TS808, Ibanez TS9. This pedal sounds as good as any of those - truly! The tone control is so damn usable. It sucks no tone from my rig and is quiet. The distortion is smooth and sounds fantastic, transparent but angry. The string definition is all there. What's more, you can nozzle up the distortion for a bigger rock sound and it still sounds great. I'm playing a Stratocaster or a 64 Melody Maker or a Les Paul Special (P-90s) through a Blackface Princeton Reverb, Vibrosonic Reverb (15 inch JBL), 70's Bassman 50 and Roland JC-120.I'm still kicking myself - why did I spend all that money on all those great pedals when this little Profile DST-5 sounds every bit as good, probably better than the lot of them (did I mention it only cost me $40?).

Reliability : 10
It's been going for years and still sounds like 3 nymphs singing under a waterfall. What's more, it's QUIET and my bottom end is still there. Seriously, the tone control on some pedals gets too trebly and harsh at 9 o'clock - this sounds exactly like my undistorted tone at 12 o'clock and only gets harsh when dimed. It actually works - you can enhance the bottom end by turning the tone control down.

No idea.

Harmony Central want me to tell you how long I've been playing ..... too long. If I'd saved the money I'd spent on gear, my kids would have a fat inheritance by now. I play country, blues, rock and dabble in steel guitar. I'm fussy about tone. This pedal is virtually unknown and undervalued. It is an absolute classic for the true tone-lover. Get one if you can before they're priced beyond reasonable reach.
