Its a no brainer..Very easy..Just Compression or Expander..With a switch for input gain. And a switch to choose from the two functions. And Two knobs. One for amount of effect and one for output.
The manual is very informative if you need it...
So simple, you would have to be a dumbass to get a bad sound from this unit.

I own a recording studio doing mostly Metal and Hardcore.
I mostly use this for guitars.I run a Mesa Single Recto.(Of coarse there is a Rocktron Hush and Intellifex as well as my secret weapon EQ in the effects loop) thru 2 4x12 cabs.(Seperately miced in two different sound rooms. And of coarse one has the phase inverted.)
These signals are sent out of the board as a stereo pair into the 311s(Im using 2 of em) then into one of my my Roland 1680s ( I have 4 of em.2 & 2 linked togeather for a total of 64 digital tracks) as a panned stereo track. Simple right??
Anyhoo the end result is the most chest thumpin tight assed guitar youve ever herd..Oh Les Pauls with the Zakk Wylde sig. EMG pickups help too..
I can tell you ive used several mic pres over the years and got o.k. results. But lemme tell you all this straight up unit really makes the difference between so so and holy fuck heavy detuned guitar tone.
It makes the usaual muddy tone tighten up and get crisp..

I wouldnt record without one..Ive been playing guitar and recording for over 25 years...Vintage Rocktron is the best..I have a ton of it in my studio. And I always buy backups cause they dont make this stuff anymore...
