Ease of use is more dependant on what your using the HEX with. The use of the actual pedal is simple. Up and Down. So in that regard, it cant get any easier really.

I use it for expression with my G Major. I've heard the volume pedal function works well, but I don't know that much. So at this point it does not produce sound in my setup.

Read on to my customer support for my story on the pedal's reliability. The casing is very durable, thats why it gets an 8. The potentiometer seems to be mounted fairly well. I would give it a 10 but read on to find out why.

Ok here's the deal. I ordered one through my local GC. Got it, started setting it up. Seemed fine for a while. Probably 3 hours into use the teeth rolling the pot up and down began catching, and grinding. Very very bad. Not only was it useless at this point but it was becoming worse and worse.
I emailed Jim from custy service with Rocktron. 1 Day, I get a reply. Its friendly and helpful. Give me the serial # and your address and we will ship you a replacement direct. Thats unusual. Most companies would turn me back to GC to return it and order a new one. Which means I would have to wait another 2 weeks because GC's special ordering sucks complete ass.
4...Maybe 5 days. A brand new one appears on my doorstep. I asked Jim if I should return the broken one to the GC or send it to him. His reply "Nah. Maybe use it as a doorstop?"
Excellent. Impressive. A+ for Rocktron. I have a feeling it has to do with that guy Jim. Rocktron found a great custy service rep who knows how to do it.

I've had the new one only a few days. Its been working perfectly. Time will tell if it starts to do funky stuff too, but my problem is the 1st Ive heard about the HEX. I'm willing to accept it was an isolated incident. Rocktron backed up their product and resolved my problem the most hassle-free way possible.
I'm only giving it a 9 because of my mishap. But it is a great, durable expression pedal. It does it's job at a great price.

Very easy to use. Just plug it in after your guitar (or wherever else you want it in your chain) and your ready to go.
I used to run it:
EBMM JP6 -> HEX -> Cry Baby Original -> BOSS GT6 -> Marshall AVT100
Ive now upgraded my equipment, switched the Cry Baby for a Morley Bad Horsie, and upgraded my GT6 and Marshall for a Mesa Boogie TriAxis with 2:90 poweramp.

Unlike some pedals ive tried, this one does not colour your sound at all. It requires no battery, and does not add any noise to the chain. Unlike the other reviewers, i found and volume control to be very constant though the angle of movement.
Great for those blend in, violin type sounds, and for rolling off the volume without having to take your hands off the strings.

This thing is built like a rock, its very similar to a Dunlop Cry Baby in size and shape, but has a much more solid movement (and feels a lot heavier). It made me wish my Cry Baby had more of a solid feel too! (hence the move to the Bad Horsie).
Ive never had any problems with it, its well built, i certainly wouldnt bother keeping a backup for it.

I have had no reason to deal with Rocktron about this pedal.

I play Progressive metal/classic metal and rock. I use 3 Ibanez Guitars (RG570EX, RG1527 and an RG to JEM conversion) aswell as my EBMM John Petrucci Signature.
This pedal has prooved to be very useful for on the move volume changes, effects, and cutting out the guitar sound when its not needed.
For just a volume pedal, it is quite expensive, but other than that id give it my full approval!
I would feel lost without it!

Easy. Did not have all the same problems noted by the previous reviewer.

I bought this for the volume function (electric guitar), not the MIDI. I returned it. This had the most nonliner taper of any pedal I've used. Very sharp cutoff between no-volume and some-volume, very difficult for roll-ons. Very little volume change through the sweep with a big change near toe-down position. Might be okay for a coarse level control, but not useful for finessing.

Heavy cast construction, internal components a little lacking in terms of quality and construction. Typical nylon rack & pinion design. Pot was mounted crookededly. As I said, I returned it.

Didn't deal with Rocktron, but Music123 was fine about a refund.

If it doesn't perform as a volume pedal, nothing else really matters. I have 2 other Rocktron effects pedals which I'm very happy with, but this one was disappointing. Bought a Vox V850 which I like and I'm keeping.

This is a volume expression pedal, it is a simple device as far as using it. The manual was simple to use. The top of the pedal is far to small for my size 10 1/2 foot. I think it was made for someone with a size 6 or 7 in womens footware.
The pivot point is way to far back, makes it hard to return to silence side of the control.
The pedal is a heavy cast construction, when I hooked it up to the guitar and amp, the pedal dropped to full open or loud on its own. It can damage your equipment.
In the manual it says to set the pedal tension adjustment to suit your taste, but there is no choice it must be set heavy to keep the pedal in the up position, so your amp don't blow up, when using it.
I read a review on this pedal and it was indorsed by a guitar magazine, I lost all respect for rocktron and the mag.
The action on the pedal is not smooth at all, I can feel the gear move with the gear strip.
Also the volume pot, increases to quickly, I have about 1/4 inch travel to a volume level that is almost unbearable.

The sound quality on the pedal was good. At low volume level it sounded full. but is is tough to control.
I use the pedal with a super reverb, and a G&L Skyhawk

I bought the pedal new from a ebay store, so it's my fault for owning it. As far a customer support I figure it is only as good as the product, so I won't bother,

pop, country, blues I can't keep up with the rockers anymore, don't really think I want to.ggggg
I have been playing for 42 years off and on.
If it were stolen I would not buy it again.
Compared to an ernie ball volume,it would be unfair to ernie, but I think ernie has a reliablity problem too, but I can get 18 monthes out of an ernie ball. I think the rocktron will end up in the corner with the rest of my boss pedals.
The only thing I like about the pedal now,is that I glued an ernie ball pedal top on it. That's the only part. I will add the return springs tommorrow.
