Ease of Use : 9
Pretty simple. I barley read the manual. Just plugged it into my effects loop and fiddled with the nobs and in about 15 min. it was good to go.

Sound Quality : 10
This product does EXACTLY what it says it does. A few key points I followed.

It is made to be run as the first item after your pre-amp or as the first item in the effects loop. It tells you this in the instructions.

I run my guitar through various pedals into a Marshall VS100H which can get a bit noisy especially on the OD1 and OD2 channels. The Super C got rid of all the noise. At first it did nothing and I was worried that the reviews that gave this product low marks were correct. Once I turned the level on my effects loop to 10 however, I cut out all noise, buzz, hum, etc.

The noise gate is a nice addition, but not why I purchased the
Super C. It also works well, but only at gigging volume. At practice volume, (at least the volume my band wants me at) I needs to be turned down to the point where its effect is minimal or it will KILL your sustain. This dosen't make a bit of difference to due to the fact that the only time you really need a gate is during a gig. I give the Super C a 10 because it does exactly what it says it does, kills the noise and lets all of my tone through.

Reliability : 7
Seems good. I'm not crazy about a wall wart on rack gear, but time will tell I guess. I haven't gigged with it yet, but I feel pretty confident. I give it a 7 only because of the wall wart.

Never delt with Rocktron or GHS

Very Pleased. If it were stolen I would buy it again. I think it is a great value. I got it at GC cost because of connections I have there, but even at retail, you're getting a gate and noise reducer for a few bucks more than a single pedal performing only one of those tasks.

Ease of Use : 10
Pretty simple, two knobs and a couple of buttons. The manual is pretty basic, it just gives you a little bit of theory on how it works.

Sound Quality : 10
Ive been a high gain player for 15 years and have always hated it when I wasnt playing and i could hear my amp making noise. Not necessarily feedback but that hiss you can hear when you turn on your amp. Im currently using Esp M1 custom w/ EMG 81, Gibson Les paul Standard stock, Fender Usa Strat stock, Charvel model 6 w/ EMG 81, and Fender Katana w/ Emg 81 through MESA Triple Rec into MESA Rec 4x12. Guitar-Dunlop Crybaby-Racktuner-Dbx 166xl compressor/gate-Mesa tri-rec-effects loop-Hush Super C. Like Magic when I put it in the effects loop, I suddenly had a totally quiet amp!!( I also use furman pl-8 for power. Ive tried it into the input jack of the amp and I could still hear noise and Ive tried it with my compressor in the effects loop and I could still hear noise, but when I split them up totally quiet!!I have finally got the tightness in my overall sound thanks to the super c.

Reliability : 8
I would depend on this as much as any other rack gear.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 10
For metal with a high gain amp this is a must. Ive also used a Hush IIb and this preserves your tone MUCH better. Like everyone else says, the lack of a power cord is lame but the manual states that having a 9volt type pluggin makes the unit run quieter. Also I like anything I use to be footswitchable, and /or a bypass, wich this doesnt have. But, the bottom line is this works!! I seriously have tried a lot of other gear and still had to spend money because they didnt work. So cry once and spend the money on this and you'll be done searching. But you may have to play with it a little bit like I did to find where it sounds ( or doesnt sound) best.

I know I just sent one review a few days ago... but I wanted to retract the things that I said about the BOSS NS-2... because now I use the Hush in conjonction with the NS-2 and it's perfect ! That's the best of both worlds !

It's fairly easy to use... even better if you use it with the noise supressor (GATE) made by boss.

Sound Quality : 8
This unit is perfect to reduce hiss that came from the amp, the power, the pedals... but that's not that good to lower the noises when you are on the distotion channel (without sacrifying the sound on the clean channel!) or when you Boost your distortion for solos, or even when you use 2 overdrive pedals at the same time for a cool distortion (RAT+BB preamp)... it leaves some noise that don't deserves to be there ! (even if the gain is lower than 9 or 10 0' clock on the overdrive pedals).

BUT when you use the HUSH (TRESHOLD at 12 'o clock and GATE at 0) with the BOSS NS-2 (treshold at 3 'o clock and decay at 0)... IT'S PERFECT !!! No hiss no noises... and the notes fades naturally !!! (But the NS-2 compress a little your sound and makes it a little thinner... but that's a fair compromise that I can take to reduce the noises and I have boost pedals to reduce that "thin" sound anyway !).

PRO:
Greatly Reduce hiss from the amp, power and pedals & contributes to reduce the quantity of noise in the overall sound.

CON:
Don't attuenate enough of the noises... without sacrifying the sound (specially on the CLEAN CHANNEL).

Reliability : 9
for Recording and Shows I totally rely on it because it greatly reduce the HISS noises (the "ssshhh" sound of your amp, pedals, etc.).

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
I'm playing for 11 years now and I studied in Jazz Music... but I'm more into rock, blues and old metal (Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Metallica, Megadeth & Iron Maiden).

My actual rig is as follow:
Fender American Deluxe Fat Strat/Jackson USA King-V >
Boss Tuner > Boss NS-2 > ??VOX Wah > Xotic RC Booster > Xotic BB preamp > RAT distortion > EH Deluxe Electric Mistress flanger > MXR EVH Phase 90 > Boss Digital Delay DD-3 > Boss Chorus Ensemble > CARVIN Legacy 100 Watt Amp with a 4x12" cab.

THE ROCKTRON HUSH SUPER C IS PLUGGED IN THE EFFECT LOOP.

all my stompboxes are plugged to a Voodoo Lab Power 2 Plus power supply (except the Flange) and all the equipment is plugged in a Monster Power 1000 professionnal power center.

I think that HUSH SUPER C is way better than the MXR Smart and the BOSS NS-2 Noise Supressor to reduce HISS
but it lacks of reduction for "distortion noises" ... That's why I'm using it with the BOSS noise supressor...

I'm sorry about what I said before about the NS-2 !!!

Because the HUSH was horrible on the clean channel and fairly great on the distortion channel... but It doesn't have any footswitch with it and when you disengage it... it makes a really loud POP, so I tought it would be great to try it with the Boss NS-2... and it was !!!

SO if you already have a noise GATE and want to reduce the "ssssh" sound of the amp and have 200$ to spend... go for it... but I found it a little expensive for the use I made with this !

But if you want a really CLEAN sound with no noise at all it's perfect (with the NS-2 or Smart Gate) !

I'm giving it an 8... just because for the price, I think it's not fair that I have to use it WITH another noise gate.

Even if it's just a 2 knobs noise supressor... it's not that easy to balance the sound so you don't cut your clean sound. Because when you crank the gate knob pass 1 0' clock, the notes dies prematurely on the clean channel.

Sound Quality : 8

Reliability : 10
I totally rely on it, because even if it doesn't reduce the hums enough it's way better than nothing or with the Boss NS-2 or MXR Smart Gate that really compress your sound and cut the notes really quickly... in one word it sucks your sound ! So I think that the better NOISE reducer still the HUSH because the sound stay true (or natural) and doesn't compress.

So that's why I'm giving it an 8.

PURE TONE SUCKER!. Horrible addition to my rig. It doesnt really do much other than kill your sound. In order to get rid of my hum i had to sacrifice my amp tone. Therefor it does NOT sound good. I also have a boss ns-2. which works PERFECTLY compared to the hush. Also when i hit the on/off button it would make a loud pop noise.

Reliability : 1
wouldnt rely on this at all.

neve rtalked to them returned the unit asap

i own a boss ns-2 which is great, i just figured why not get a rack mounted noise reduction...Wrong decision. I have now gone and bought boss ns-2 for all my amps which DOES BOT suck my tone.

Excellent - not a noise gate boys & Girls - a noise reduction system, A boss noise surpressor is a... gate not a noise reducer.

Gate = cuts off the signal until a amplitude threshold is met, the gate then will allow the signal through, along with hum & hissing.

Noise Reduction (what this is) = reduces hissing & hum in realtime.

The person who mentioned "Dolby" does not know what he is talking about. Dolby works when playing back a tape that has been allready recorded with dolby noise reduction. EG Dolby is not realtime the hush effect is. It's very complex but it's down to compression & expansion - so their is no way this person could have compared the hush effect to dolby.

Again this is a subtle effect, guitarist meat heads will think this sounds like crap - this has allready been proved by the previous postings. The effect is not a gate, please try and read up about it before you review because you are doing possible buyers a diservice. This has been used by pros all over the globe for years. Boss do not have any effect that mirrors what this effect does as it is not a gate. How many times am i going to have to say it's not a gate?

Absolutely terrible. I toured with this in my rack, and it just didn't do the job it was supposed to. It either does nothing, or cokmpletely leeches your tone, in fact we ended up replacing this with pedal based noise gates as it was so bad. If you're looking for a rack based noise gate, then seriously avoid this, it is horrid, and the noise gate is worse than those you can find it rack based multieffects units.

The onkly thing this seems to be good for is gating the input. Truly a horrid unit.

Reliability : 6
Reliability is pretty good, although anything with an external power supply is not good reliability wise, and it was prone to the adaptor cable slipping out the back and I ended up having to use gaffa tape. other than that niggle it never failed while out on the road.

Never dealt with customer support :)

I play mostly metal and use a triaxis which produces a fair amount of noise, as such it couldn't deal with that. Other gear I own are several Ibanez universes and assorted other fun guitars, mesa triaxis, rivera TBR-1, tc electronics g-major. I've been playing about 13 years both in semi and fully professional capacity.

This unit does not do the job at all, and i tried to make it work, had guitar techs look at it, all in vain! Go and buy the hush pedal (blue metal casing) it is much better and a LOT cheaper! Or even the noise gate/noise reducer in a boss gt-5/gx-700 is better.

Doesn't get much simpler than this. Two knobs. As was posted earlier, it can easily squash your tone if not used with care. When used PROPERLY however, it is a very effective tool for killing unwanted noise from your rig.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm running Jackson guitars through a Peavey XXX head through the loop to: Furman Power Conditioner/Korg Tuner/Hush Super C/Lexicon MPX-550/BBE 482i/Shure SLX Wireless/4x12 Marshall w/Vintage 30's.

Obviously you want to put the Hush in the front end of the signal chain. I've had no coloration or deterioration of sound quality whatsoever. Again, it would be easy to destroy your tone if not used carefully.

Reliability : No Opinion
Gigged with it for the first time last weekend and it worked like a champ.

Haven't had to deal with them yet.

Overall Rating : 10
I play in an Iron Maiden Tribute and it's basically loud, full on driving, gain induced madness most of the time. This unit helps keep my rig in line. I've been playing for 30 years using Marshalls, Mesa Boogies, Peaveys, but never had a hush unit in the chain before. I would recommend it to any regularly gigging musician who has to deal with the line noise sounds of different rooms.

Not much to this pedal. One knob, turn it till your hum goes away or is barable. One foot switch turns it off and on, also has a nice rescesed knob so you dont kicked it or mess with the settings while turning it on and off

Sound Quality : 10
From what I've read from other peoples reviews all over(not just from here), you have two groups of people. Thos who love this thing, and those who hate it. I've come to the conclusion thats its just a matter of taste and equipment. If your looking for something thats gonna dead stop all sound and signal at a certain decibal or frequency, THIS IS NOT THAT PEDAL, and its not this pedals intension. If you want that, check out the boss NS-2. This pedal is a noise reductor, not a noise gate. And it does just what it describes, it reduces the noise to a point that either cannot be heard, or much more bareable.

I personally love this little thing. It has never messed with my tone, and never cut off my sustain, unlike what you will get with the Boss NS-1 or basically any noise gate for that matter. Let me explain:

With a noise gate, you set a certain decible in which the pedal will stop putting signal thru to the output. With this puppy, you set the decible at which the pedal starts expodentionly reducing the sound i.e. if it were set at say -10 dbl it would reduce it to -12, as as the sound dims, the amount it dimms by increase so when its at -8 it will output say -4 and so on. I believe this option comes with the Boss N-2, but in no way compares (personally when I tried the N-2, it didnt even work at all).

I'm saying all this because I think people have the wrong idea about this pedal and what it is supposed to do. I'm gonna give the sound quality a 10, because I love what it does for me, reduces my noise and keeps my sustain and never cuts off my notes before my guitar does. If you test this pedal at a store, you will def hear the diff while turning it off and on.

Reliability : 10
Thing is a solid medal construction, don't realy see how it could break unless you were really abusing it. Rocktron has been making quality parts for years, so i would think the inputs, pots and switches will last.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have not had to deal with them, and lets hope I never do.

Overall Rating : 9
I'll give the overall a 9, just so people don;t think I'm crazy and just giving all tens, one thing that would be nice on this would be seperate switch for a mute, the pedal deff has the space. Then I would def give this thing an overall 10

easy to use, no patches, no manual needed...... 2 knobs, you're retarded if you can't use one of these.

Sound Quality : 7
i give this a fair rating because i'm comparing it to alot of units... if you've ever used a boss ns-2, mxr or rockman smart gate, isp decimator's, ect... hush's are old technology and quite mediocre to most tonefreaks and audiophiles.

i used with many heads, preamps, poweramps, ect.. it's got a level of operation noise, and the gate can be a bit harsh and noticable on high gain settings. which i can't have.

but i've heard worse...

Reliability : 10
owned it for about a year, never broke down.... never had any problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 8
it does mostly what it says it does... it's a noise gate, never had any big problems with it.

but i'm comparing it to other units in the same price range and honestly, it's nothing special.
