Very easy to use Hush The Pedal TWO BUTTON VERSION.. If you need instruction there is some great pointers below.

I use this live to keep the noise down from tube amps and noisy pedals. Works GREAT! You have basically two pedals in one. Set A for moderate to low noise reduct. for lower gain (or when you WANT some noise in high gain). B I set high for my highest gain stuff and it allows me to add dist. pedals to my amps dist channel without much noise. Nice!

I see a lot of bad reviews, but I disagree - I think the reviewers don't know what they are doing, and most said they gave up after 5 or 10 minutes! What morons!
First off, this is a great pedal, but I, too, messed up when I first tried it, but I didn't give up on it right away.
I plugged it in between the guitar and pedals - didn't do anythying. Then after the pedals, and didn't do much, SO THEN I READ THE MANUAL! I plugged it to my friend's Peavy Bandit between the pre-amp and power amp (there are jacks for that), and it worked perfectly!
I use the Hush Super C for my own rig, and was trying to subtly let the other guitarist in my band know there was something out there that would work for him to kill all of the noise and static without affecting his tone - a great pedal with a single knob (usually on top of his amp now, after dialing in the setting,

This pedal has One knob. Turn it clockwise for more noise reduction, counterclockwise for less noise reduction.

I have a pretty big pedal board. My current set up is as follows: Ernie Ball Volume --> Cry Baby --> MI Audio Blues Pro overdrive --> Visual Sounds Jekyll & Hyde --> Electro-Harmonics Double Muff--Boss Super Chorus-- Electro-Harmonics Holy Grail Reverb --> Keeley Moded DD-3 --> Boss DD-5 --> MXR Micro Amp (Clean Boost). I use a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40watt all tube amp.
The problem I was running into was that with all those pedals I got this annoying buzz in my amp. It wasn't too noticeable when I was playing but when I wasn't playing there was this loud buzz. I tried everything! I tested every pedal, every cable, tried some different amps, changed setting....But I still had the buzz. That's why I wanted the Hush.
So I read a lot of reviews about this pedal sucking tone as the noise reduction was increased, so I was a little worried because I love my tone. But when I plugged in the pedal I must say, the pedal didn't seem to effect my tone at all.
The user manual (which I got off the Rocktron website) said to put the pedal at the end of all my effects and adjust the threshold accordingly. So I plugged it in, hit the switch, turned the knob about 3/4 of the way up, and the noise was nearly gone. Granted I still get a bit of the buzz when I turn the amp up to high volumes, but I play around 2 most of the time. I turned it up to about 8 on my amp and the buzz was still barley noticeable.
Most importantly...MY TONE IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE HUSH PEDAL

If you are having the same problem I did, if a pedal or a number of pedals are creating a undesirable buzz or hum in your amp. Then I highly recommend this pedal. It worked exactly as I wanted it to.

Mine is the two button, two knob version that allows for two different threshold settings and switching between the two. Its dead easy to use.
Sound Quality
:

I don't know personally about the single knob version but mine works flawlessly. Some of the other reviewers here bad talk it, but it does exactly what it is supposed to do and as well as the boss ns-2, actually better because you have two settings available.
Here may be some possible reasons others are having problems.
1. You put this directly after your pre-amp/overdrive/distortion
devices. DO NOT put it at the end of your effects chain.
2. Noise Gates in general are designed for one purpose. They are
designed to minimize the noise level of your signal when you are
NOT PLAYING, either from medium to high gain distortion pedal
noise, or from single coil pick-ups. PERIOD. They will not
eliminate the noise while playing coming from cheap, cheesy, or
crappy high gain pedals that put out as much noise as signal.
Invest in better pedals.
3. You are using crappy power supplies or cables with ground loop
problems and/or transformer unfiltered noise.
4. Maybe the new pedals are crap???
OOORR.....
5. You're a chimp smokin gonje., or some thrash metal head with a
cheap ass guitar and a $20.00 quadruple rectifier amp blowin
power chords with the volume on frickin 11. Lay off the crack
man.

If you can buy the two button one, DO It. Don't fart around looking at other crap. It does exactly what its supposed to do. And does it well.
I am as anal as it gets in regards to tone. I almost bought the decimator, but ran across this. My pedalboard rig consists of boutique and modded pedals and class A tube amps, old Fenders, and Marshalls.

One knob. Easy to use. Plug in to your amps effect loop (Or if you don't have an FX Loop at the end of your effects chain.)turn on your noisiest pedals and turn the threshold knob till noise is gone.

I use this with my Marshall Valvestate 265R combo, and A Semi-Hollowbody with various solid bodied guitars and one 7 string. I set it up in my fx loop before my delays & chorus' and after my Eq and flanger. While this unit cuts out noise, it is not a noise gate. It IS a noise reduction unit. It's there to filter out noise and feed back. noise gates cut off the signal.

One knob, an on/off switch...very straightforward. I bought it used so I had to download the manual, which was thorough and helpful enough, but unnecessary in my opinion.

My setup:
Les Paul into Ernie Ball volume pedal to 535q wah to Guyatone PS3 phaser to Fulltone Ultimate Octave to amp input.
2 Boss digital delays (one short one long, short preceding long) in the parallel effects loop.
Fulltone Fat Boost followed by Rocktron Hush in the series effects loop. The amp is a Marshall JTM 60 combo amp.
The Fulltone fuzz/octave pedal is noisy when used in its stand-alone fuzz mode (with the octave-up feature turned off that is). The Hush pedal does greatly reduce, not eliminate, but greatly reduce the amount of hum from the fuzz pedal. It's only effective at doing so with the threshold knob turned nearly full clockwise. There is a slight but noticeable alteration of tone. I could live with it though if not for what it did to my phaser.
It absolutely ruins the sound of my phaser. If the threshold is set high enough to sufficiently clean up the fuzz pedal's hum, the phaser sounds lousy (muffled and muddy). If the threshold is set low enough to allow the phaser to sound OK, it's inadequate for silencing the fuzz pedal hum.
Too bad. I'll be returning it.

I'd use it if it didn't ruin my phaser sound. I play with fuzz and phase on simultaneously quite often though. It means the Hush pedal is only useful to me when I'm ONLY using the fuzz. I'd prefer to turn down my volume knob and/or volume pedal to silence hum when I'm not playing given the Hush pedal's limited usefulness to me.

With one knob to adjust, it really is as easy as it gets. But the trick is to adjust that one knob when the pedal has something to work with. Read the manual, and have your other pedals activated.
Sound Quality

More like an 8.5 as it isn't perfect, but it is rather close. It does take a very small amount off of the top end, but I only noticed it after I was specifically listening for it to do just that. Everything else seems fine AS LONG AS IT IS ADJUSTED PROPERLY. I 'auditioned' the Hush with a long line of various overdrives, fuzz boxes, and Leslie simulators. I tried an unrealistic hypothetical approach of having a Bad Monkey, Prescription Experience, and Univibe all on at once. NOISY!!!! Adjusted the Threshold AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS, and was surprised at how quiet everything was. Not perfectly 'dead' quietly, but if the manual states 65dB of noise reduction, who am I to argue? The sound quality of everything on at once isn't something to even think about, but the quality of the noise reduction is something to smile about.

It's a Rocktron. All of their pedals seem built sturdy enough to take moderate abuse, and the Threshold control is recessed to avoid accidentally knocking it as you activate/bypass the pedal.

It is a fine pedal that performs as advertised. It IS a little large for the average pedal board, and it DOES take off a smidgen of your top end (which can easily be compensated for if it bothers you that much), but those seem minor in comparison to the benefits it bestows on you. If you have a line of noisy pedals IN FRONT of the Hush, it will get rid of most of the noise. If you bypass the Hush when in your clean/rhythm mode, you won't notice any change to your original tone. If not, and you always have your amplifier settings the same regardless of what guitar you are using or where you are playing, you will notice a 1db cut at about 3KHz. Overall, a great addition to your pedal board (if you have the extra space), and a prefered choice over noise 'gates'.

Thing I DO NOT LIKE about this pedal : Rocktron Hush pedal. Looks nice, but wait until you take it out of the package. It is clear they are trying to manufacture this as cheap as possible. It has a nice blue powerder coat, with no clearcoat finish!!! It smells like paint, and feels like you can scratch it right off. I assume they are saving some money by skipping the clearcoat process. As for Ease of Use ... it is easy, because there is only 1 knob. Read sound quality below for the bomb shell ...

OK, I read the reviews before I bought this pedal ... and was correct in thinking that when people turn the knob all the way clockwise, it does suck the tone ... that is a fact. However, I STRONGLY assume this knob was NOT meant to be turned all the way clockwise. NOW, that said, it DID reduce some noise, but added a bit of its own noise ... removed hiss, and added (what sounded like light static or subtle hum). AND no, this was not 60 cycle hum, this was something very unique to this pedal. So, for the money I paid, I was trying to remove ALL noise, but this took away some, and added a different noise, which was equally annoying. SO, I am returning it. I actually understand what this technology is trying to do. It removes 'non guitar' noise, and is supposed to let the guitar cut through, however what isn't realized is that when you are actually playing the guitar, you don't typically hear all of the squealing ... so for me, I am going to go with a NOISEGATE, not a HUSH unit. I want it to be dead silent when I am not playing, and when I am playing, I want to hear EVERYTHING ... This unit does not quite up the act when you are not playing, it adds its own annoying sound.

Reliability ... I guess it is reliable. Just showed up in the mail, tried it out, and am returning it. I wish (1) they had their own specific adapter for it (one of my quirks about my gear is that I buy the matching ac adapter for all of my pedals). They suggest a 2.1 mm adapter ... leaving room for MUCH error here. I would much rather buy an adapter from the mfr, knowing it is certified for use w/ the pedal, than trusting the garbage adapters out there that can hurt the pedal. And, as noted I also don't like that there is no clear coat ... so giving a 4 for reliability specifically in regards to room for error on the adapter, and poor finish.

Overall rating ... guitar player / collector for over 30 years. TONS of guitars, TONS of tube amps, TONS of rack gear (preamps, and fx) ... and believe it or not, when it is all wired up correctly, it is pretty quiet. I bought this specifically for a noisy randall amp ... and the pedal did not do the trick. I also don't like that they don't have a specific adapter, and hate the finish, so my overall rating is 4.
