In a loop on my rack switcher. last loop prior to electroharmonix boost. I only have it in on 2 pedals, the zvex box of rock and graphic fuzz.

Not really bothered by a slight suck in the sound when these low fi pedals a booting it out. Very useful for tight rock riffs and just cleans things nicely when I stop playing to sing without screwing with patch changes.

Solid as the brick.....you know the rest

Based on an old unit that had a problem....ace and Im in the uk. Was polite and they were responsive.

A few guys on here have said the same and I think its true, you need to know your kit and think what you want the end result to be. Personally being able to switch pedals in and out of the circuit so the guitar is always as direct as possible seems to give me the best results. I also use low output good quality pickups on my guitar, I have found all the pedals I use more responsive to this and the Hush is no different.

One knob but placement in the proper spot in your signal chain is the key.Since it wont work ideally for everyone I give a lower rating.

Sound Quality : 9
I got this to add to my pedalboard and clean up the noise. The board ran into a marshall DSL 100. I had been very pleased with my rocktron rack equipment with hush so chose this pedal over a Boss noise gate..All my other pedals in the chain were true-bypass (I verified this with a meter).Well I was ver upset when I turned up the marshall! This pedal added more noise than it reduced! It would erase some of the hiss but only at the cost of my tone and added a low hum to boot :) I then plugged it thru the amp effect loop and it again seemed to kill the tone and add hum(even when I changed the loops gain setting).I was ready to send back to dealer when the other guitar player in the band gave it a try in a Peavy tube head effects loop . WOW it actually worked correctly. Now hes thrilled and I dont have to deal with a return to dealer. My Marshall head had recently by gone over by a professional Marshall tech and I called him about this and he said the fxloop was working properly .SO my view is that this pedals effectivness is based on how well it works in YOUR amps fx loop. Try before you buy and if it doesnt work then its may not be a bad pedal just in compatible with your amp! -Now I have gone back to using a Rocktron intellifex in my Marshall fx loop and the hush in that works great!?

Reliability : No Opinion
No problems yet.Built like a tank.

This works much better than a Noise gate in my view. The eq dependant noise reduction is more natural and even cleans up the noise as you play where as a noise gate is either open or closed allowing most of the hiss thru as well.

Very easy to use. One button and one knob.

Ok, at first I tried setting this up at the end of my pedal chain figuring that it would clean up all the crap noise from my pickups and from my pedals. It didn't work out so well. Once I hooked the hush up through my effects loop...it was a whole new story. It cleaned up my horrible ground hum from my Gibson SG and made my chugging sound nice and tight. I actually like the sound I get out out of my guitar now.

Reliability : 9
No issues yet.

I think if you are not happy with the sound you are getting then you should play around with different setup options. Honestly, when ran through my effects loop...my sound is hardly changed at all. I play Metal and I get a nice chunky sound and when playing quick chords with abrupt stops....it is so tight. I guess it depends on what you are looking for and if you hav the patience to mess around with it until you get your sound the way you like it.

Very easy to use Hush The Pedal TWO BUTTON VERSION.. If you need instruction there is some great pointers below.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this live to keep the noise down from tube amps and noisy pedals. Works GREAT! You have basically two pedals in one. Set A for moderate to low noise reduct. for lower gain (or when you WANT some noise in high gain). B I set high for my highest gain stuff and it allows me to add dist. pedals to my amps dist channel without much noise. Nice!

I see a lot of bad reviews, but I disagree - I think the reviewers don't know what they are doing, and most said they gave up after 5 or 10 minutes! What morons!
First off, this is a great pedal, but I, too, messed up when I first tried it, but I didn't give up on it right away.
I plugged it in between the guitar and pedals - didn't do anythying. Then after the pedals, and didn't do much, SO THEN I READ THE MANUAL! I plugged it to my friend's Peavy Bandit between the pre-amp and power amp (there are jacks for that), and it worked perfectly!

I use the Hush Super C for my own rig, and was trying to subtly let the other guitarist in my band know there was something out there that would work for him to kill all of the noise and static without affecting his tone - a great pedal with a single knob (usually on top of his amp now, after dialing in the setting,

Sound Quality : 10
It works wonderfully - I have used it with a Peavy Bandit, Fender Twin, Fender Cybertwin, etc. I always put it either in the effects loop, or in between the pre-amp and power amps. Amazing!

Reliability : 10
This thing is built like a tank, and always works.

Customer Support : 10
I have e-mailed the engineers and sales team Rocktron, and they have gotten back to me within 24 hours on anything. I was pleasantly surprised that they were so responsive. I am a computer network engineer, and have worked with a multitude of unresponsive tech support people!

Ease of Use : 10
This pedal has One knob. Turn it clockwise for more noise reduction, counterclockwise for less noise reduction.

Pretty easy

Sound Quality : 10
I have a pretty big pedal board. My current set up is as follows: Ernie Ball Volume --> Cry Baby --> MI Audio Blues Pro overdrive --> Visual Sounds Jekyll & Hyde --> Electro-Harmonics Double Muff--Boss Super Chorus-- Electro-Harmonics Holy Grail Reverb --> Keeley Moded DD-3 --> Boss DD-5 --> MXR Micro Amp (Clean Boost). I use a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40watt all tube amp.
The problem I was running into was that with all those pedals I got this annoying buzz in my amp. It wasn't too noticeable when I was playing but when I wasn't playing there was this loud buzz. I tried everything! I tested every pedal, every cable, tried some different amps, changed setting....But I still had the buzz. That's why I wanted the Hush.
So I read a lot of reviews about this pedal sucking tone as the noise reduction was increased, so I was a little worried because I love my tone. But when I plugged in the pedal I must say, the pedal didn't seem to effect my tone at all.
The user manual (which I got off the Rocktron website) said to put the pedal at the end of all my effects and adjust the threshold accordingly. So I plugged it in, hit the switch, turned the knob about 3/4 of the way up, and the noise was nearly gone. Granted I still get a bit of the buzz when I turn the amp up to high volumes, but I play around 2 most of the time. I turned it up to about 8 on my amp and the buzz was still barley noticeable.

Most importantly...MY TONE IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE HUSH PEDAL

Reliability : 8
Just got it and no problems yet. It seems like one of those pedals that would last forever

Customer Support : No Opinion
The only thing I can say about customer support is that it was really easy to look up the user manual online

Overall Rating : No Opinion
If you are having the same problem I did, if a pedal or a number of pedals are creating a undesirable buzz or hum in your amp. Then I highly recommend this pedal. It worked exactly as I wanted it to.

Ease of Use : 10
Mine is the two button, two knob version that allows for two different threshold settings and switching between the two. Its dead easy to use.

Sound Quality : 10
I don't know personally about the single knob version but mine works flawlessly. Some of the other reviewers here bad talk it, but it does exactly what it is supposed to do and as well as the boss ns-2, actually better because you have two settings available.

Here may be some possible reasons others are having problems.
1. You put this directly after your pre-amp/overdrive/distortion
devices. DO NOT put it at the end of your effects chain.
2. Noise Gates in general are designed for one purpose. They are
designed to minimize the noise level of your signal when you are
NOT PLAYING, either from medium to high gain distortion pedal
noise, or from single coil pick-ups. PERIOD. They will not
eliminate the noise while playing coming from cheap, cheesy, or
crappy high gain pedals that put out as much noise as signal.
Invest in better pedals.
3. You are using crappy power supplies or cables with ground loop
problems and/or transformer unfiltered noise.
4. Maybe the new pedals are crap???

OOORR.....
5. You're a chimp smokin gonje., or some thrash metal head with a
cheap ass guitar and a $20.00 quadruple rectifier amp blowin
power chords with the volume on frickin 11. Lay off the crack
man.

Reliability : 10
Works fine build like a tank.

Customer Support : 10
Who needs them. Really. If it don't work, sell the frickin thing on ebay or pitch it.

Overall Rating : 10
If you can buy the two button one, DO It. Don't fart around looking at other crap. It does exactly what its supposed to do. And does it well.

I am as anal as it gets in regards to tone. I almost bought the decimator, but ran across this. My pedalboard rig consists of boutique and modded pedals and class A tube amps, old Fenders, and Marshalls.

One knob. Easy to use. Plug in to your amps effect loop (Or if you don't have an FX Loop at the end of your effects chain.)turn on your noisiest pedals and turn the threshold knob till noise is gone.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with my Marshall Valvestate 265R combo, and A Semi-Hollowbody with various solid bodied guitars and one 7 string. I set it up in my fx loop before my delays & chorus' and after my Eq and flanger. While this unit cuts out noise, it is not a noise gate. It IS a noise reduction unit. It's there to filter out noise and feed back. noise gates cut off the signal.

Reliability : 8

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them.

This is a good quality noise reduction pedal for under $80. It does what it says and if you can't figure out how to use it, it's your loss.

Ease of Use : 9
One knob, an on/off switch...very straightforward. I bought it used so I had to download the manual, which was thorough and helpful enough, but unnecessary in my opinion.

Sound Quality : 5
My setup:

Les Paul into Ernie Ball volume pedal to 535q wah to Guyatone PS3 phaser to Fulltone Ultimate Octave to amp input.

2 Boss digital delays (one short one long, short preceding long) in the parallel effects loop.

Fulltone Fat Boost followed by Rocktron Hush in the series effects loop. The amp is a Marshall JTM 60 combo amp.

The Fulltone fuzz/octave pedal is noisy when used in its stand-alone fuzz mode (with the octave-up feature turned off that is). The Hush pedal does greatly reduce, not eliminate, but greatly reduce the amount of hum from the fuzz pedal. It's only effective at doing so with the threshold knob turned nearly full clockwise. There is a slight but noticeable alteration of tone. I could live with it though if not for what it did to my phaser.

It absolutely ruins the sound of my phaser. If the threshold is set high enough to sufficiently clean up the fuzz pedal's hum, the phaser sounds lousy (muffled and muddy). If the threshold is set low enough to allow the phaser to sound OK, it's inadequate for silencing the fuzz pedal hum.

Too bad. I'll be returning it.

Reliability : 9
It seems well built.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with the company.

Overall Rating : 5
I'd use it if it didn't ruin my phaser sound. I play with fuzz and phase on simultaneously quite often though. It means the Hush pedal is only useful to me when I'm ONLY using the fuzz. I'd prefer to turn down my volume knob and/or volume pedal to silence hum when I'm not playing given the Hush pedal's limited usefulness to me.

Ease of Use : 10
With one knob to adjust, it really is as easy as it gets. But the trick is to adjust that one knob when the pedal has something to work with. Read the manual, and have your other pedals activated.

Sound Quality : 8
More like an 8.5 as it isn't perfect, but it is rather close. It does take a very small amount off of the top end, but I only noticed it after I was specifically listening for it to do just that. Everything else seems fine AS LONG AS IT IS ADJUSTED PROPERLY. I 'auditioned' the Hush with a long line of various overdrives, fuzz boxes, and Leslie simulators. I tried an unrealistic hypothetical approach of having a Bad Monkey, Prescription Experience, and Univibe all on at once. NOISY!!!! Adjusted the Threshold AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS, and was surprised at how quiet everything was. Not perfectly 'dead' quietly, but if the manual states 65dB of noise reduction, who am I to argue? The sound quality of everything on at once isn't something to even think about, but the quality of the noise reduction is something to smile about.

Reliability : 10
It's a Rocktron. All of their pedals seem built sturdy enough to take moderate abuse, and the Threshold control is recessed to avoid accidentally knocking it as you activate/bypass the pedal.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Has anyone had to deal with Rocktron Customer Support?

Overall Rating : 8
It is a fine pedal that performs as advertised. It IS a little large for the average pedal board, and it DOES take off a smidgen of your top end (which can easily be compensated for if it bothers you that much), but those seem minor in comparison to the benefits it bestows on you. If you have a line of noisy pedals IN FRONT of the Hush, it will get rid of most of the noise. If you bypass the Hush when in your clean/rhythm mode, you won't notice any change to your original tone. If not, and you always have your amplifier settings the same regardless of what guitar you are using or where you are playing, you will notice a 1db cut at about 3KHz. Overall, a great addition to your pedal board (if you have the extra space), and a prefered choice over noise 'gates'.

Ease of Use : 8
Thing I DO NOT LIKE about this pedal : Rocktron Hush pedal. Looks nice, but wait until you take it out of the package. It is clear they are trying to manufacture this as cheap as possible. It has a nice blue powerder coat, with no clearcoat finish!!! It smells like paint, and feels like you can scratch it right off. I assume they are saving some money by skipping the clearcoat process. As for Ease of Use ... it is easy, because there is only 1 knob. Read sound quality below for the bomb shell ...

Sound Quality : 2
OK, I read the reviews before I bought this pedal ... and was correct in thinking that when people turn the knob all the way clockwise, it does suck the tone ... that is a fact. However, I STRONGLY assume this knob was NOT meant to be turned all the way clockwise. NOW, that said, it DID reduce some noise, but added a bit of its own noise ... removed hiss, and added (what sounded like light static or subtle hum). AND no, this was not 60 cycle hum, this was something very unique to this pedal. So, for the money I paid, I was trying to remove ALL noise, but this took away some, and added a different noise, which was equally annoying. SO, I am returning it. I actually understand what this technology is trying to do. It removes 'non guitar' noise, and is supposed to let the guitar cut through, however what isn't realized is that when you are actually playing the guitar, you don't typically hear all of the squealing ... so for me, I am going to go with a NOISEGATE, not a HUSH unit. I want it to be dead silent when I am not playing, and when I am playing, I want to hear EVERYTHING ... This unit does not quite up the act when you are not playing, it adds its own annoying sound.

Reliability : 4
Reliability ... I guess it is reliable. Just showed up in the mail, tried it out, and am returning it. I wish (1) they had their own specific adapter for it (one of my quirks about my gear is that I buy the matching ac adapter for all of my pedals). They suggest a 2.1 mm adapter ... leaving room for MUCH error here. I would much rather buy an adapter from the mfr, knowing it is certified for use w/ the pedal, than trusting the garbage adapters out there that can hurt the pedal. And, as noted I also don't like that there is no clear coat ... so giving a 4 for reliability specifically in regards to room for error on the adapter, and poor finish.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Customer support - Didn't have to call them, so no opinion here.

Overall Rating : 4
Overall rating ... guitar player / collector for over 30 years. TONS of guitars, TONS of tube amps, TONS of rack gear (preamps, and fx) ... and believe it or not, when it is all wired up correctly, it is pretty quiet. I bought this specifically for a noisy randall amp ... and the pedal did not do the trick. I also don't like that they don't have a specific adapter, and hate the finish, so my overall rating is 4.

Sound Quality : 9
Excellant for NOISE REDUCTION, obvoisley people who buy this because they think it is a gate will give bad reviews. But these people should not have reviewed something they are using in the wrong way. I it in my FX chain in my mesa amp, the amp was noisy before - with & without distortion. The noise is almost eliminated.

Reliability : 10
not broken yet, seems to be built quite sturdily, but then again it's not the type of effect that you are going to jump on when prepearing for a guitar crescendo.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
If you are looking for a noise gate then you should get a book on guitar effects "what they do and how to use them" because you should not be looking here. This is a processor that is like realtime DBX or dolby noise reduction. It removes signal noise & hum. This pedal is not to be used as a gate EG;

Gate - Shuts the signal off completely until guitar is played and it lets the signal through along with any noise & hum you may have. Depends on what your playing - the noise may not be audible due to what your playing overcomming the noise.

Noise Reduction - A more subtle effect that reduces the noise constantly - tries to irradicate hum & hissing etc. Will not work with overly excessive noise.

Pro's have been using this for years, not a 10 cause it's not the Rocktron super C.

I am using this pedal with a Gibson SG plugged into a Marshall JCM900 (the pedal is in my effects loop, and I don't use other pedals). My amp was noisy as hell before, now it's dead silent. Remember that I keep my gain pretty low, and that if I get it too high, I start to get some noise. THIS PEDAL IS NOT FOR GAIN WHORES! But for anything up to the gain level of Weezer, this unit is perfect.

Ease of Use : 7
Very easy to use and effective, but only under very specific conditions.

See Sound Quality.

Sound Quality : 7
Before buying this unit I read all of the reviews posted here. Though there seems to be a variety of opinions here, I would say they are all correct.

Under some conditions, it completely sucks your tone.
Under other conditions, it doesn't work at all.
Under the correct conditions, it works great.

WHAT THIS PEDAL DOES:

Eliminates noise & feedback without effecting tone.

WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THIS WILL WORK?

ONLY if you have a very noisy pedal BEFORE this pedal (e.g., think single coil run through old high gain distortion pedal).

WHAT WON'T THIS PEDAL DO?

It will not work if you don't have active noise.
-- if it is before a noisy pedal, it will do nothing
-- if it is after a non-noisy pedal, it will completely suck your tone
-- This pedal CANNOT be set and left on!

HOW TO USE THIS PEDAL

1. Make sure you have a substantial noise problem. It will not help for moderate or minor noise. It will suck your tone.
2. Place Hush anywhere between your very noisy pedal and your power amp. That is, it works equally well before or after your preamp, so you can use your effects loop if you want.
3. ONLY TURN THIS PEDAL ON WHEN YOUR VERY NOISY PEDAL IS ON. TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU TURN YOUR VERY NOISY PEDAL OFF.

This pedal WILL solve major feedback/noise problems very well.

Reliability : 9
Looks rugged enough. Haven't had it long enough to know.

I have read reviews about this pedal from many people that bought this pedal and I am totaly discusted in how negative and clueless some people can be.
I nearly didn't buy it because of some really bad reviews that I read but I said to myself for 50 bucks its worth buying and letting myself be the judge! This pedal does exactly what it says. Very easy to use and it works without killing any tone.

Sound Quality : 10
I used the Hush Pedal through my effects loop on my Fender Twin Reverb that is modified with killer tone to the bone. I didn't want to lose any tone but I did want to eliminte noise from many vintage pedals that I have such as; Vintage original 1960's Clyde Mc Coy Wah, MXR Dynacomp, Boss CS-3 compressor, MXR Phase 90, Boss Chorus CE-2, Boss Overdrive SD-1, Ibanez Tube Screamer and a Micro Vibe by voodoo Labs. When I adjusted the threshold of the Hush pedal the noise died and the tone was there, exactly what Rocktron claims the pedal can do!! I wouldn't use the hush pedal on the clean channel because anyone that has noise on their clean channel has a problem with their amp!!!!

Reliability : 10
This pedal is made out of metal and very solid. I like the blue light and the blue color of the pedal! Blue is my favorite Color :) I dought even the worst road conditions or cold would harm this pedal.

Customer Support : 10
Before I bought the pedal I emailed Rocktron with certain questions that I had and they where very fast and informative after they instantly replyed to my email.

Overall Rating : 10
I give this unit a 10 because I have tried other noise gates and pedals that claimed to clean up the noise but all they did was leave the noise while I was playing and cut off the sound when I would sustain a note.
This pedal does what it claims. Use this pedal in your effects loop click it on when you have overdrive with many noisy pedals and when you play the noise goes away while the tone still stays the same and when you sustain that note it wont kill your sound even after you finish playing that note :)Dead silent when I am not playing even cranked to 6 on a 100 watt Twin :)
What people have to realize is when you don't know how to use something don't blame the company or knock down the hush pedal!!!
I am so happy I bought it and didn't make a bad move by listening to bad reviews. I totaly recomend this pedal for anyone who wants to keep their tone and lose the noise!!
Good show Rocktron.

My setup consists of a Peavey 5150 Head into a Marshall 1960B 4x12 cabinet. Guitars are a Peavey WOlfgang, Les Paul, Dean V, Kramer Striker, Peavey Tracer Custom, to name a few.

I use this unit in my Boss Pedal Board that is running directly into my FX Loop. This is the way to use this pedal. The manual clearly states, "Do Not plug this pedel between your guitar and amp. IT WILL NOT WORK". I have my board set up with the following.....Boss TU-2 Tuner, Boss GE-7 Equalizer, Boss DD-3 Digital Delay, Boss Chorus Ensemble, The Hush then my Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb. I know the manual says to put it in the chain before Delays and Reverbs but I cannot see any difference in my tone with it being after the delay.

This pedal does what it is supposed to do. It takes the Hiss and Noise out of your setup without sucking your tone.

My band, Slider (www.sliderrocks.com) plays everything from 80's Hair Metal (Poison, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, etc), Classic Rock standards (AC/DC, Judas Priest, Van Halen, etc), Southern Rock (ZZ Top, Skynyrd, etc) to Modern Rock (Jimmy Eat World, Lit, Blink 182, Green Day, etc) so basically we are all over the map.

I got this pedal after our Soundman asked us to get a Noise Supressor since I use the 5150 and our other guitar player uses a Mesa Boogie.

With this pedal in the chain it takes all of that unwanted "High Gain" hiss out of your setup so it is a great addition to my rig and it makes our soundman happy.

If you use a High Gain amp buy this pedal you will not be disappointed.

easy as pie. The only advice I have is that you MUST get a power supply with this pedal, it reacts horribly when the battery starts to fade.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing is very effective in reducing feedback and noise in front of my amp and kills virtually all noise if I use it in the loop just not feedback. I really can't see where people say this thing doesn't work other than maybe the battery issue, this thing works wonders and is a good value. It doesn't seem to affect my tone at all except taking the noise out which is a good thing.

I had a MXR line drive\gate before this and I liked that but this thing let's the notes decay naturally and doesn't squash my tone at all. It seems to be rugged and does what it's supposed to so I think it's an excellent value.

Marshall 74JMP head, Hot British tonebone, SG///You need to use a 9 volt adaptor being that as a battery dies, your tone goes bad. If you are in a high gain situation and have a problem w/ feedback, this is a great pedal. Just play with it and tweak it. I have an SG (feedback problems). The hush is perfect for a guitar that squeals like the SG. It will NOT alter your tone if you manage it the right way. I still get long sustain with it. I think people try to use it in a low gain setting. You CAN have a loud heavy sound with no backround noise, and have the same tone. The boss NS2 is a joke that chops your tone. This will not chop your tone if you have the 9 volt adaptor. I can roll with intentional feedback from the note that I hit. Just manage your gain and hush knob accordingly.

No probs yet..

It cleans any pedal and distortion noise. You need to use a 9volt adaptor to keep the fresh tone and turn the dial according to gain amount.

At first I was very satisfied with this pedal, but shortly I was experimenting a bit with my equipment and found my perfect sound!
All I had to do is turn off this crappy pedal!
It reduces the headroom of your sound a lot! It's hardly recognizeable when you make the on/off test, but try playing with and without for some time and you realize, this noise-reducting pedal even reduces your sound!

Not as easy to use as you would think. Most people using it just plug it in and crank the knob all the way clockwise--WRONG!!

You have to balance the need to cut your noise level with how much your signal decays/sustains. The easiest way to do this is to;

(1) put the HUSH pedal at the end of your effects chain--whether you're using an effects loop or not. (My amp doesn't have an effect loop, so I just put the HUSH at the end of all my effects, and plug the out into my Vibroverb.) Crank the knob all the way up (clockwise).

(2) turn on all your noisy effects (overdrive/distortion/gain/or whatever is noisy) just the way you would use them live or in studio.

(3) start playing (just strum or whatever) and SLOWLY turn the knob counter-clockwise until the "noise" you are trying to suppress is too loud. At this point, if your sustain is reduced too much, continue to tweak until you have a live-able balance between noise and sustain. Mark your level/spot with a pencil or grease pencil in case you bump it accidentally.

Note: I use this box for my harmonica microphone in order to reduce feedback, and this adds another great use for the unit!

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using the following setup:

Various Lee Oskar or Hohner harmonicas into a vintage 1940's Astatic 200 microphone
-or-
1962RI Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster (modded to Esquire specs), G&L F-100, or Danelectro DC3
-into-
Morley ABY, Boss TU2 Tuner, MXR Phase 90, Ibanez TS9RI, Dunlop Crybaby Wah, Dunlop Jimi Hendrx Classic Fuzz, Boss DS1, Danelectro Daddy-O, DOD equalizer, Rocktron HUSH, all mounted on a Furman SPB8 powered pedalboard
-into-
1963RI Fender Vibroverb and/or Line 6 POD (directly into PA).

There are many chances for noise in my setup; I run mostly single coil pickups in my guitars (except the G&L F100), and the vintage harp mic isn't exactly a silent, pristine microphone (which makes it perfect for harp!). Plus I run one or more overdrive/distortion pedals at once at given times, and occasionally use the EQ as a volume boost.

Since adding the HUSH pedal about two years ago, I have had little or no problems with noise or feedback. When I do want feedback (for whatever reason), I just turn off the HUSH and put my axe in front of my amp.

It all goes back to that delicate tweak you must find to balance noise vs. sustain. Mark your spot, but be ready to adjust according to the (changing) level of your other effects!

Reliability : 10
I have had no reliability problems with this unit.

Don't compare this to a noise gate. This won't cut your sound sharp, it removes excess noise from your signal chain as well as high gain pre amp hiss without losing the sound quality.
Used in the fx loop of an amp, it works flawless, and to my ears keeps the original tone intact. People submitting bad reviews for this product simply don't know how to use it correctly. Simple fact.

Sound Quality : 9
WHen I bought this box, I was expecting a noise gate type of effect. It is not a gate. It works more like DOLBY NOISE REDUCTION (remember cassettes?) or DBX compander more than a gate. When you stop playing your guitar, it instantly downwardly expands the noise. It doen't make it totally silent, but it makes a huge difference. As far as these people talking about it sucking your tone away, I have NOT had this problem. I find it to be very transparent. my setup consists of a Carvin Legacy half-stack, Ibanez RG320 guitar with Dimarzio Tone Zone and Air Norton pickups, and various flangers, phasers, and other analog stomp boxes.

I have been playing guitar and other instruments for 23 years. I have had alot of experience with all different styles and lots of different gadgets. Mostly metal, psychedelic and shred picking. If you are looking for a gate, this is not it. If you are looking to improve the quality of your signal to noise ratio, this IS it. I do alot of recording, and it gives me a more natural sound that's easier to control than a gate. Notes do not get cut off. Somebody else said this, but it's worth repeating: ALL THE BAD REVIEWS HERE MEAN THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIND ALOT OF USED HUSH PEDALS CHEAP. I'd say grab one if you consider yourself a bit of an audiophile.

I tried this pedal out in a store in Dover, NH for about an hour. I was very excited that the store had one in stock and I ran down to check it out and fully intended to buy the pedal. I play alot of clubs, I use single coils, and I have a pretty large board of analog effects. I get unwanted noise in about 50% of the rooms I play. I was very excited for this pedal to do what it is supposed to and I went to the store to check it out. I put it in line after my 7 effects pedals, which I brought with me, into a Musicman amp. The pedal truly does get rid of buzz, hiss, and general electrical noise. But, unfortunately it takes an enormous amount of your tone with it. I tried every setting on the dial from zero to 100% and no matter which end of the dial you're on, when the Hush pedal is turned on, the tone becomes noticably dead. It was as if I had placed a giant wad of cotton in front of the amp. And the transient attack of the notes were audibly compromised. Bottom line, the pedal does what it says it does, but does some other things as well, and they're not at all desirable. I'd rather turn my volume down between songs and put up with some buzzing during performance than have to deal with the delayed response and muted and dull sound caused by this pedal. In the pedal's defense I'm willing to bet its function improves the louder you get. I got reasonably loud in the store and the pedal still failed in my view. But I bet if you used it in a really loud rig, say, put it in front of Warren Haynes' amp at full volume in a large theatre - the problems I've described might be less in evidence.

Sound Quality : 7
ok first i have to explain my equipment and why i bought this pedal...i modded my ibanez g-10 guitar...took the tension spring for the bridge out the back cavity of the guitar...ripped a wireless trasmitter apart, stuffed it in back cavity, wired the on/off switch to the pickup selector toggle (so it turns on when the pickup switch is all the way down), and soldered the input directly to the humbucker...crappy guitar + crappy wireless = one loudly humming wireless setup...

so anyway i bought this hoping to eliminate the hum from the wireless signal...(i'm running the wireless into the amp's input, and just the pedal in the effects loop...i use the distorion on my amp's head)...and i must say that it did supress the hum...now its not totally gone, but its definatly doing its job...admittingly my distorion does sound a tad bit wimpier, but its nothing you'll notice unless you sit down and try to compare...i give this pedal a 7 for basically doing what i wanted it to...

One Knob, One switch, input, output. If you can't operate this thing you probably don't have the brain capacity to even plug in your guitar straight to the amp.

Great! But it depends on what you are using it for. I have 3 electrics: 71 strat, 51 Gibson ES125 and an OLP MM-1. I only use this on the Gibson ES125. Since that guitar has one P-90 and is a very large boxed hollowbody it normally gets feedback way to much on an overdrive channel. The Hush takes care of that real quick but also maintains great tone. It really helps to turn my ES125 into a great dirty blues guitar. When used with my strat it does help when the volume is cranked for live shows. But for practice amps (solid state under 50 watts) it doesn't really do much. The OLP has humbuckers so i doesn't really need any sounds reduction. My recomendation would be add this to the end of the effects loop or, use it in combo with a boss LS-2 or similar line selector. It helps to be able to take it out of the loop for some parts of songs.

My styles range from Heavy rock to classic rock to Pop to classical.

It is NOT noisy if you learn how to use it. Most people do not understand how to use this pedal. Iknow exactly what the problem is. You must give it a strong signal and start the settings low, incresing them until you get good noise reduction.

I play Gibson Les Pauls with EMG's through 2 Marshall Jcm 900 SLX's and a Gallien Krueger 2100SEL, all hooked up stereo, a Dunlop Crybaby Wah, old Ibanez Tube Screamer and a Boss Chorus. Since all that stuff in combination with the already quite noisy high gain amps creates plenty of static noise, I finally decided to get a noise gate. I play hard rock, heavy metal for 20 years, went to all sorts of equipment, and from my rack system days I remembered Rocktron as being a good choice for guitar effects, especially their Hush Noise Reduction, known from their legendary Rack Effects. MISTAKE!!! Before I keep going, one thing for the Rocktron employees or the people that bought a Hush Pedal and are just pissed to have spent the cash, then left a review here before me: I hooked the thing up in any possible way, tweaked and turned and experimented with every single knob setting for hours, and I have been playing professionally for 20 years as mentioned above, this pedal is a great looking, solidly built piece of crap!!!
Not only does it take the punch out of your sound, its treshold reacts slow and if you play high gain, it doesn't quiet shit down at all unless you crank the treshold knobs and then there is silence..complete silence without sound! Turning the knob a little counterclockwise, you guitar comes back a bit, sounding like a wasp...Disappointing!

Reliability : 1
I won't even be able to find out whether I can depend on it or not, it won't make it to a gig, only back to ebay, for cheap!! So whoever's interested, look it up and waste your money!

Have been playing for 20 years, had metaltronix amps, GK's, all sorts of 800's and 900's Marshalls, always Gibson Les Paul Customs, Standards with Duncan's and EMG's. Tubescreamer, Boss Chorus, Cry Baby Wah. That's it. It it would be lost or stolen, I'd open a keg! But maybe I can sell it and get at least half the money back. Some people might like it for it's color..

This pedal is worthless.

I've had no problems like other reviewers have had, but I can hear just a small loss of growl (I use the Boss Metal Zone(Keeley Mod) pedal). On/off comparisions tell me that all the hiss is gone but the tone is still there. I did notice that if the battery starts going the Hush pedal will really mess up the sound. I use a power brick. If your using it with a multifx processor you will have to adjust the dial as u switch between fx as gain distortion and feedback vary per effect. When I use it with my Boss Metal Zone I have the hush set to minimum but with my RP2000 on some of its presets I have to turn the dial way up.

My interest lies in metal to hard rock and with all that gain used in it so far it has kept things quiet. I'm more of a hobby player just do it for fun not money. I have a Marshall G100RCD with matching 4X12 bottom an ART DST-830 Rules Breaker120 watt head thru the Marshall bottom. I switch between ART SGX 2000 w/Big Foot and a Digitech RP200. 2 Vandenbergs, 2 Wolfgangs (one Archtop one special), Ibanez RG ### (forgot number 650 I think).

If it was lost or stolen I would replace it. I compared it to the Boss NS-2 and liked the rocktron better. With the turn of one dial it did what I had to mess with 3 dials on the boss to do (I really like boss products and am getting the GS-10) but the Rocktron preformed better. I only give it a 9 because nothings perfect.

easy as hell to use...1 knob, on/off switch..just turn the knob until it the noise goes away!

NOTE: if you use this pedal directly from your guitar to your amp (or with any pedals in between as well), it WILL slightly affect your tone, by cutting off the highs. if used in this manner, the pedal can only cut down on the sound from pedals, pick up buzz, and feedback.

***** the proper way to use this pedal is in the effects loop. this will get rid of amp hiss and noises without affecting your tone at all...however, the pedal is too strong, if you play your amp at low levels and have the pedal in your effects loop on, it will sound like shit, because the pedal is silencing too much. but if you turn your amp up, it will reach a point where the hiss will go away due to it being in the proper range of the pedals use.

my setup: Custom Jackson Rhoads with EMG 81 in bridge, (50ft cord) Crybaby 535Q wah, (1ft cord) Boss CE-2 Chorus, (10ft cord) Peavey 5150 combo.

i purchased this pedal off ebay and when i got it i thought i got ass raped. i put it in my chain right before my amp like it says to in the manual, and when i turned it on, it got rid of my pick up buzz, feedback, and the standard wah hiss, even on the lowest level. but it did make my overdrive slightly thinner and reduced the presence a bit, just a slight tone alteration. but then i found the true use for the pedal:
I put it in the effects loop, and my first reaction, was again, shit, because it didn't sound good at all. I asked for help at the peavey forum, and the guys told me to turn my amp's post gain up on 5. this amp, at that volume, can begin to hurt your ears, so i was skeptical. funny thing was, this worked. The hiss which almost made the amp unplayable at high volumes before is gone now, with out any change in my tone. my amp has never sounded better. but now i still have a slight pick up buzz and feedback...i just might pick up another one of these, or maybe one of those Boss NS-2's just to get rid of that.

(2004) Rocktron Hush Noise Reduction Pedal.
One Threshold control knob, & one on/off button.
The Rocktron HUSH pedal has NO redeeming qualities! It should be
re-named the SLUSH pedal!
The manual was no help at all because the unit cannot produce any good sounds!
This is by far the WORST noise reduction pedal money can buy.

Sound Quality : 1
My current setup includes: a Standard Fender Telecaster (2003 model); a Fender Princeton 65 amp (2001 model); Boss Chorus; Boss Delay; Ibanez Phaser; Dano Tremolo & Dano Flanger. The Telecaster (with it's stock pickups) is naturally noisy-so I wanted something to "tune out" the background distractions.
The HUSH pedal seemed like a cheap way to clean up my sound...but what a MISTAKE!
First off, it KILLS most of the natural tone, sustain, and brightness of the guitar. What's left is a bland, lifeless tone that sounds like you have rubber bands for strings. Frankly, this pedal is waste of time, money and shipping costs.
What is Rocktron thinking here? Why haven't they recalled these "sound abortion" pedals?
C'mon Rocktron, remove these "dogs" from the market...just like Ford Motors did with the "Edsels".

Reliability : No Opinion
Despite the fact that this unit built like a new "Hummer"- this pedal just plain SUCKS as far as sound is concerned.
I returned mine the day after I bought it.

After HEARING this pedal I did not want to deal with Rocktron. I figured their Quality-Control department must have "dropped the ball" when these models were made. I realize Rocktron is a decent company...but c'mon, now! Have they heard the "turd-like tones" this pedal makes?!!!!

I play Classic Rock in a five piece band- so I need a guitar/amp/& effects that can get good clean and overdriven sounds. I simply wanted a noise controller to help me keep the natural hum and crackle down between songs, etc.
I've been playing for 33 years and I play out on a part time basis.
The HUSH pedal was so bad I brought it back and stepped up to a BOSS NS-2 pedal -which is AWESOME!
The best advice I have is get a BOSS pedal instead of the Rocktron Hush (Slush) pedal!

I have the older model with 2 knobs, one to be used for a clean setting, the other may be used for a distortion/overdrive setting. Very simple to operate, plug in and while the guitar is not being played, turn the dial clockwise until the hiss and unwanted noise from your noisy effects pedals goes away... Very Simple!

Sound Quality : 9
My setup is as follows:
Gibson RD 77 -> Ross Distortion -> Boss Compressor -> Boss Chorus ->
Hush pedal -> Boss digital delay -> Marshall Amp. The setup is fairly noisy when the chorus pedal is on, and the HUSH eliminates the unwanted noise. I have played with the HUSH in the effects chain, and when it is out of the chain and there is no noticable difference in the tone of my setup. However, I have found that if I use batteries in the HUSH, the tone of my setup and the ability of the HUSH to perform as specified will deteriorate significantly as the battery loses power. Switching to a 9v power supply changed that. Because of the battery-life/sound degradation issue, I'll give it a 9...

The Hush helps me to achieve that goal. If it were lost or stolen, I'd buy another one. It works well.

It only has one knob !!!! How hard can it be?

Sound Quality : 8
Okay, first let me just say that I had the same problem everybody else had with this pedal. When I first used it, it was a disaster. Even in the lowest setting it just whacked my guitar tone. I knew there must've been something wrong with the pedal so I contacted Rocktron. At first, I got some dude from the tech dept. to tell me that maybe I was using a low signal setup. Yeah right ! But then, I got a reply from their Chief Engineer who told me that the factory that was making them wasn't calibrating the units to Rocktron's specs. Then he proceeded to personally set one up for me and sent it free of charge !!!! Now the thing works wonderfully !!!

Reliability : 8
I guess its pretty solid...

Customer Support : 10
Are you kidding???? Where else are you going to get the company's Chief Engineer send you a replacement that has been personaly set up by him???? I would give them a 100% rating !!!!

Overall Rating : 10
This pedal, as with any other noise suppressor, isn't perfect. It will take away some of your sustain and color your tone if you go pass the 12 o'clock setting. But it does the job it was intended for. But what really sets Rocktron apart is their customer service. I still cannot believe MR. Robert Oeschen's gesture.

Only 1 knob ! Just plug it in and since it sounds like crap no matter how much you tweak it, bingo ! Man it just so easy...

Sound Quality : 1
I have 3 amps. A Gibson Goldtone, an old Carvin Vintage 50 head, and a Tech 21 Trademark 60. I tried all three amps with my PRS Custom 22 and my Les Paul Std.and I just could not get a good sound, and sometimes any sound at all. Its like the "mute" button on your tv's remote. It kills your tone. Your high frequencies just go bye bye and your signal becomes flat, muffled and weak. And yes, I read the users manual's warning about setting this thing up. It makes no F@#$*g difference!!!!!!!

Reliability : No Opinion
So, it is built Ford though... Big deal ! Why would anybody take this on the road anyway? Hmmm, I wonder if it can survive my Wilson scattergun?

Customer Support : 1
Sent e-mail. No answer. I guess they're tired of all the complaints...

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play mostly hard rock and blues and I always like to have a really heavy deep sound ( Got Mule??)so I was looking to kill the noise and unwanted feedback from my high gain setup. Well, it was a massacre since this thing killed even innocent by-standers. If it were stolen, oh well, $60 down the drain. I don't know why Rocktron made this pedal, it just doesn't work. Guess I will try some other brand since I need a noise gate. All I need to do is get a RA # AND PUT IT BACK IN THE MAIL !!!!

Rocktron has made the HUSH pedal for many years and I have used several different iterations. All are very easy to use. But you have to pay attention to the instructions and NOT run your guitar directly into it, as I suspect many of the IDIOT reviewers here have done.

Sound Quality : 10
Again, if you hook this baby up CORRECTLY (for you brain-dead morons - this means running it AFTER your distortion and noisy effects pedals and NOT simply slamming your Strat into the front of it and then going into your amp) then you get what you are ultimately after: NO NOISE and no tonal difference. If you buy this to simply wipe out your pickup buzz, and you use no distortion pedals or other noisy items, it can NOT do what it is supposed to do. There are some young 'uns out there that simply do not understand how to hook up. Do it correctly and - bingo!

Reliability : 10
Been using Rocktron HUSH for many years. Never had one break down. Have travelled all over the country with it.

Customer Support : 9
Everyone at Rocktron makes it easy to get information. I have often spoken with tech support there when doing elaborate rigs, and even when doing simple stomp box setups. They rock for sure.

Overall Rating : 10
There is no other noise reduction like the HUSH. Hook it up right and you will be satisfied.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET ANY THING CLOSE TO A GOOD SOUND OUT OF THIS BOX_O_CRAP! NO editing available since it's a stomp box with one switch. Manual not really necessary. If harmony central offered a 0 rating this would qualify but since 1 is a low as it gets it gets a 1

Sound Quality : 1
59 Fender bsaaman, Fender Strat plus, Brian May Vox. It's a noise reduction pedal. Yes it stops noise BUT it also murders your tone, sustain, volume, punch, and any other good thing about your rig and sound! Once again, a 0 if possible but a 1 since thats all they will allow me.

Reliability : No Opinion
Who knows, I used it for 20 minutes and everything about it stinks!A 0 again!!!!

Customer Support : 1
Who wants to? Why would they want to hear about something they already know is a pice of anal excrement!

Blues, rock and R&B. Playing as a pro for fourty years. If it were stolen before I returned it the next day after buying it, I would have thanked the thief and proably paid him for stealing it! I whish someone made a delay unit that was stone quiet and provided REAL echoplex sounds. NOT ONLY DOES IT NOT HELP YOU MAKE MUSIC, IT PREVENTS YOU FROM MAKING ANYTHING AT ALL!!!! IT ONLY GETS IN THE WAY WHEN YOU THROW IT AGAINST THE WALL AND YOU HURT THE WALL!!! ONCE AGAIN A PURE 0 IF IT WAS POSSIBLE!

2 knobs, 2 footswitches. easy as pie.

Sound Quality : 8
Well, I gather from the reviews that the new model, single knob version really isn't good. I have the old model, and it does what I want : cut off hiss when I stop playing. I've used noise gates since I started playing. I was always under the impression these Rocktron Hush things were noise REDUCTION and not gates. I compared it to an old MXR Noise Gate/Line Driver and it was better(the Hush was). I also did an A/B comparison using a true bypass loop floor pedal. I played and put the Hush in and out of the chain listening for differences. It pretty much sounded the same except for a slight boost of the low end which I can live with, better than taking bass away. Anyway, I didn't hear any glaring differences.

Reliability : No Opinion

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I should note that I'm using this in the effects loop of 1 channel of a Peavey Rockmaster preamp (Ultra)and not in my pedal chain. I have an MXR Smart Gate and a Morley Noise Gate from the 80's on my pedalboard. Why did I choose this? I was at a used shop and in need of a gate for my super crunch channel, as the MXR Noise Gate(70's) I was using just wasn't cutting it. (I paid 70 some dollars for that baby, that's depressing) Plus I had a $20 Visa gift card burning in my pocket, I figured why not? I did try in the store, sounded fine, but I had to get it home and listen in phones to hear the true sound differences up close. Look, maybe the new version is bad, I don't know. But if you see the old 2 switch version about, give it a shot.

Very hard to get a good sound out of it, infact you cant get a good sound at all.
So simple you dont need a manual.

Sound Quality : 1
I can get the sound of my favorite artists if I just throw the hush pedal in the trash.
everything it touches sounds lifeless.
the thing destroyed my tone.
I use a Peavey 5150
Hughes and Kettner
Marshall AVT150
it ruined the tone of all three amps no matter how I set them.

Reliability : 7
you can depend on it if your looking for a shitty sound.
it is sturdy though, I threw it against a brick wall a few times before it broke.
if only Rocktron would put in as much effort on their sound as they do their looks.

Customer Support : 1
Terrible
It took 6 E-Mails to get an answer and when I did they lied and said it was probably the particular amp I was using, they said they had problems with the Hush and the Peavey 5150.
I replied saying it took away from the sound on everything I hooked it up to and they replied saying to go F%#k myself.

Overall Rating : 1
Im not going to waste anymore time even explaining about this terrible product.
All I can say is that this product in useless in every way for any kind of musician with good working ears.
if you like the sound of a dead tone and your clean channel being flat and lifeless then the Hush Pedal is perfect for you.
I play metal but experiment with everything and the Hush works terrible.
I think it makes a perfect paperweight though.

It gets rid of your sound. So if you like sounding a punk band buy it.

It broke in a month. And it made my tone sound like I was playing out of a ibanez amp or something. My distortion sounded like nirvana when I was trying to play metal and my clean just sounded like my tone knobs were turned off.

My pedal broke after a month. It costs 40 bucks for rocktron to even look at your pedal. I will never used one of their products again.

I understand why the guitar players wouldnt like it but I dont understand why they'd think they needed it. It gives you a flat frequency response. Crap for guitar perfect for harp. If you're a harp player and read this, buy one, steal one, just do your self a favor
Mr. ladies and gentlemans and get one. I used one of em the other night at a jam with a real small stage. I ended up about 2 feet away from a monitor.Ingredients for sure feedback hell with a handheld mic.
The Dobro player was getting some feedback and everyone would look at me right away. Shoulder shrug ,headshake, not me boys. First time I ever really truly enjoyed myself while playing amplified. Works good through the PA or any tube amp I've put it through.Same thing with mics.

Reliability : No Opinion
I'll tell you this. If you get one dont take it apart to see what makes it tick.I did and barely got her back together again and working right. As far as the construction and components used its the biggest piece of shit ever created. Man what a joke. They work killing feedback though and thats alright by me.

Great for a harp player. Needed one since the first amplified note ever came forth from a long ago worn out harp I once owned

OK first it has 1 knob obviously, which doesn't leave you much variety for tweaking it, it's either a lot of threshhold or not. If you play very high gain music, I'm talking VERY high like using either a Mesa or Peavey 5150 Head on Distortion between 6-9, this pedal is just about worthless.

Sound Quality : 1
It sounded like someone took my custom deep, sharp, thumping, attacking tone and smothered it with a pillow and pulled my gain knob back a few notches. Plus no matter if you use it before your front input or in the effects loop you get a horrible hum that definately doesn't compensate for the hum you're trying to get rid of.

Reliability : 10
Not sure because I took it back immediatly (not to sound bias but I then bought a Boss NS-2 and it works much, much better and has way more bells and whistles on it, but back to the Hush pedal, I will say that it is constructed well similar to a line six style, seems very durable but bottom line is I don't care how reliable it is when it is a 50 dollar piece of junk.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Didn't bother , I knew it wouldn't work for me so I traded it in for credit towards another pedal

Overall Rating : 1
I Play an LTD Eclipse with EMG 81 and 85 pickups , through a Peavey 5150 Head and I use a Line 6 Delay pedal with a Electro Harmonix Holy Grail pedal , and this thing just ruined my sound and forced me to take it back. Though I was tempted to try Rocktron's Super C, I didn't even bother , and just went with the Boss NS 2, which I am totally happy with. My last point I'll say is, when I started looking for a noise gate, I had this picture in my mind of having the most awesome distortion and then every piece of sound going quiet on a dime, this isn't the case no matter what, you will always have at least a little sound similar to a waterfall is how i would describe it , but with these toys you can greatly get closer to what you want.

A total pain in the butt. Only one knob, makes things easy but destroying your other effects' tones to get a sound of this thing makes a big big mess. After all it is not easy to use!

Sound Quality : 2
I could not make this pedal work at all. I notfied the technical support of the music store and they could not help me out at all. To make this thing work you have to almost change the settings of all the effects you use. NO WAY! This is a bad bad way to spend $60.

Here is the set up I use: Gibson studio => danelectro compressor => zoom gfx 8 => dunlop cry baby => boss ge-7 eq => rocktron hush => marshall amps. You can imagine how loud this set up can get.

I play lead guitar in my band, I need to get loud on my parts, and when I am loud, the feedback brings me down thats why I needed a noise gate, but it only made it worse. Its too much of trouble to get a sound of this thing. You have to adjust the tones and settings of other pedals for this one. At the end all you make is a MESS. I am retuning this one in exchange for BOSS NS-2 Noise suppressor. I have played with it and boss sounds way better. I am not giving a 1 to this thing because you can still get sound out of it by playing with you other settings. I have been playing guitar for almost 10 years TAKE MY ADVISE AND DONT BUY THIS PEDAL. Go for boss at least!

Reliability : No Opinion
I have no clue because I am not going to use this pedal on our gigs anyways. And am not even going to own it long enough to test for reliability.

Customer Support : 2
Customer support was not very helpful! I needed to send them 4 emails and see them on person to get a smooth helpful answer. All they were asking me was to read over the manual. LET ME TELL YOU THIS, THERE ARE ONLY 4 PAGES ON THE DAMN MANUAL. Does not help! I think they are aware of the fact how bad this product is and they can't help to troubleshoot at all!

Overall Rating : 2
I have been the lead guitarists of hard rock bands for over 7 years and played the guitar for almost 10 years. Also worked as music engineering for many people. When we play we are loud. This pedal did not help me at all. Buyers think twice before you buy.

First off, you can not get a good sound of this thing. You can get NO "sound" out of this thing. You can get a bizarre, subdued, dead, lifeless imitation of an electric guitar out of this thing... It ranges from compressed and lifeless and peaky, to absolutely unlistenable.

Sound Quality : 1
I'm using a Fender Japanese strat with humbucker-single-single and locking nut, and a Squier fat tele. Marshall AVT20 and Blues Jr. amps. At the lowest setting, it compresses the signal so that soft notes are dead, without high end and lifeless. Loud notes are peaky, trebly and glitchy, with a short sustain. If you turn it up (there's only one knob..) it gets completely squashed, inaudible to dead, and makes your guitar sound like a (bad) banjo.

Reliability : 2
Who knows. I wouldn't plug it in again, if you paid me the $59 cover charge. Believe the reviews here that say "this thing sucks all the tone from your rig" and "you won't believe how bad this is" and "do not buy this pedal." I really hoped, from the few positive takes, it was just a matter of adjusting it correctly. Look; I'm just running the thing direct, into the amp, and it ruins the sound. Yes, it cuts the hiss and hum but it cuts EVERYTHING. You either get a bizarre compressed note bounce, or worse. At best, it's bad. Turn it on more, and anything listenable is gone... It's dependable, if that means it will always destroy your tone is dependable...

Customer Support : 2
No idea. No idea why Rocktron made this, what they were thinking, what their excuse is...

Overall Rating : 1
This is no match, to any kind of music. You might as well unplug the guitar to cut down on noise, based on what this will do to the sound. It's not that it's "ineffective".. it does cut hiss and hum and noise. But at the cost of anything musical coming out, too, it's just not worth it. Unless you're striving for a compressed dead yet uneven sound quality (back to the banjo..) I have no idea why you'd want this to come between you, your guitar, and your amp. I've no idea what someone could do to think it's at all worthwhile. None.

it has a single knob, but i must admit, it is a quality knob

Sound Quality : 2
i use custom fender contemporary strat from the 80's with an emg81 or a dean avalance 7 string, original cry baby wah( sometimes), ART extreme plus efffects processor, Mesa/Boogie V1 bottle rocket, boss Mt-2 metal zone, Boss Ge-7 graphic eq, then the hush, Crate gfx212t

it got rid of the noise from any of the 3 distortions seperate, but with any combinations it was like the savagely ugly blue pedal wasnt even there. right out the box i plugged it in with everything else ( excluding wah,) and nothing worked...but it was my fault. forgot to plug in the battery, haha. so i look at the thing, what a horrible battery latch, first of all i have to unscrew it with a tiny screwdriver, then i try to pull the battery out, that took me about 10 minits, and what happens, the battery connector wasnt even soldered to the wires, so i rigged it to try out the pedal before i drive an hour back to guitar center, and i find that it screws me in the ass without even giving the courtesy of a reach around.( full metal jacket!!) its back in the box and next weekend it and the bottle rocket are going back to GC, ill get the Vtwin (they were sold out) or a boss gt-6 no hassels
its gets a 2 because of all that happned it did do its primary job, which is get rid of some noise

Reliability : 5
the battery connector wasnt even soldered, now thats just pathetic.
but the rest seemed okay

i like all sorts of music but i play in metal bands, and sadly enough i cant afford both the mesa V1 and a boss gt-6 so im going to have to take my baby back...( i bet your thinking about ribs)
ive been playing about 3 years,
if it were stolen i would be pissed, not because it was a quality pedal but because i spent 70 freekin bucks on it
im sure the rackmount is probably worth the extra 100 bucks
