This pedal has 6 knobs (rate,depth,manual,feedback,fx/level,trance) plus a hypnotic button at the left sie of the trance knob.

pros: more chances of getting the sound you prefer
more sound options to choose from

cons: spending more time on tweaking
changes in tweaking is not that intuitive and moticeable

Sound Quality : 7
I use a custom RP made tele(Elegee) w/ v7 and v8 humbs and a marshall valvestate 8040 amp.

It is a quiet and nice sounding pedal; though the trance knob and hypnotic button has little effect in the pedal's sound.

This pedal can have chorus like sound settings(which is a good thing in my opinion).

the flanger sound settings sound decent. But I guess it could be improved if the flanging sound is a bit more evident audibly.

playing it with a dirt pedal can be a bit disappointing because the flanging sound is hard to hear.

Reliability : 9
you can use this pedal on a gig without any backup pedal. the casing is pretty sturdy.

i play a bit of ambiance; and i guess this pedal wouldn't help that much into achieving the sound i want.

if it were stolen or got lost, i might not buy this pedal again.

it does have a lot of decent settings, but i guess it's better to own a a better flanger or chorus than having a pedal with some-what mediocre chorus and flanger sounds in it.

Nice features on this flanger.

Manual sets the delay time (many pedals omit this knob).

Mix to adjust the amount of flanger versus dry (this knob isn't found on other pedal flangers). Most flangers have this set to 50/50. Max setting on this is 50/50 so to achieve normal stomp box flange level this should be set to 10.

Rate, depth, regeneration are the standard stomp box flanger controls and they are found here as well.

Trance knob has a button so it can be disabled. This knob is strange and is hard to explain. What it "seems" to do is bring in another LFO that sweeps opposite the main LFO, but that doesn't really wash since the two LFO's would cancel each other. It kind of sounds like it is sweeping up AND down at the same time. Hard to explain and I really don't know what it's doing but it is a cool psycho-acoustic effect.

The only difference between flanger and chorus is the delay time and regeneration longer delay times with less regeneration=chorus shorter delay times with more regeneration=flange even shorter delay time=phase.

Sound Quality : 10
Well one reviewer complained that is sounds kind of like a chorus and he also said he didn't understand the manual control. Okay with the manual counter-clockwise wou get the distinct flanging sound and as it is moved clockwise it gets more chorusy. Keep is mind that we are dealing with a delay time in the 20-60 milliseconds range so the differences are subtle but they are there.

This pedal has a sound that is very spacey but kind of sophisticated and mature. I could see david gilmour liking this one. It has that 70's tape flange vibe that recalls Pink Floyd and the Beatles more than Van Halen or Bon Jovi.

Very quiet for an analog flanger.

I am not a huge fan of flangers I'm more into phase if anything but I do really like this one. So this may be a flanger for people who don't like flangers.

Great pedal at a great price point. I would recomend this more for general experimenters or people after more of a tape flanging sound. If you are looking for a specific (i.e. 1980's) flange sound this might not be for you.

really easey to use, it's got a great sound to it, great bright blu led, metal case for it built to last, if you want a great flanger try it out, it's cool it's big so if you have little room don't buy it but you won't regret it if you buy it, the only complaint i have that it's made in china

Sound Quality : 10
well, i would compare it to a mxr or boss if you like but better the hypnotic swicth is cool an extra sound quality you get 1000 of flanger setting's out of this box trust me

Reliability : 10
hasen't let me down yet, use everyday for practice and live perfomance, and it won't break that's for sure

It's quite complicated and interactive - certainly no piece of cake to handle!

Sound Quality : 6
Nope, it's not a keeper, and I'll tell you why: The Ads made me think that this is a very versatile pedal and it simply isn't. If you want to be mild you could call it subtle, even more chorusish. "Manual" seems to be without function, the "Trance" knob doesn't do anything I haven't had before, not at all a hypnotizing effect (to go with the ad: I'd rather hypnotize some chicks...) !!!
I'm very disappointed and will try to sell it as soon as possible to buy the Liqua-Flange as soon as it's released (the demos on Line 6's homepage sound like the Rocktron's ad promised, incl. arpeggiated sounds!!!)

Reliability : 8
Seems road ready to me, no obvious flaws.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 6
It's a very subtile flanger that left no impression. I'll try to get rid of it as soon as possible to the the Line 6 Liqua Flange.

When I first got it going, I just messed around with it for a while. After going about that, I used some of the presets from the manual (my favorite being appregio dance) and found them to be very good, some had noticeable sounds, it can go from a jet sound to a fast pulse flange.

Sound Quality : 10
Right now I'm using my dean evo fxt, a rocktron zombie distortion and a peavey solo 65. This pedals very silent, and sounds best to me at the end of an effects loop.

Reliability : 10
Ive had it for a while now (2 weeks), and there's been no problems as of yet, it seems very solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Ive havent had to contact them yet

Using this pedal on cleans gives you a very flowing sound, throught distortions it gives slight ease to the sound. If it were stolen I probaley would buy another if I could afford it, flange is a weird modulation, if I had a bigger variety of pedals I could probaley find more use for it.

This is a brand new pedal from Rocktron and I don't know anyone else with one and have never tried one before I got mine. This pedal has the usual flanger controls for Rate, Manual, Depth, and Feedback. There is also an Effects Level knob and stereo output - which I think is cool! This flanger also has a special "Trance" feature that can be switched on/off (I'll try to describe that later in the Sound Quality section.

Right out of the box I was able to get some good sounds out of it, but noticed that some of the controls were subtle. This is because the controls are interactive and the suggested settings in the manual helped a lot in getting familiar with the functions.

Sound Quality : 9
This pedal sounds great for its price. It was the flanger sound I've been looking for. I had a NOS made in Tawain Boss BF-2 for 3 days and could not get rid of the volume boost and keep a good flange sound at the same time no matter how much I adjusted the trimpots. And the sound was very metallic even though it's an analog unit. I returned it and got the Hypno Flange and am much happier. The BF2 sounds kind of like the flange in that Bily Corgan Zwan song "Honestly". I don't think they actually used a BF2, but it resembles that metallic sound that I don't want from a flanger. On the other hand, the Hypnotic Flange is more Small Faces "Ithycoo Park". I love it!

No it's not the best flanger out there, but I rarely use flange and could not justify paying more than $100.

I'm using this pedal with single coil guitars and tube amps and there is no additional niose unless I'm running a lot of gain and anything will sound noisey with a lot of gain. It's not true bypass, but it's not a tone sucker. I brought it to band practice and it sounds good at high volume and sits well with the rest of the band.

The Trance function is kind of weird. Rocktron describes it as a LFO that makes random sounds. That is kind of an exaggeration. It's hard to describe the sound because the control knob for this function is intereactive with everything else, so there is a lot of sounds that can be had. It can sound like a throbbing pulse at one setting, or when the Depth and Trance knobs maxed it lets out alien farts at certain points along the flange sweep. What I mean is it sounds like one of the garbly spacey sounds that you hear on each repeat when you turn the delay time up too far on an analog delay. Maybe mine is defective? I wouldn't know because I don't know anyone else with this pedal. It is just a sound effect that's an added bonus to this pedal.

Reliability : 8
This is my first Rocktron product and I've heard that their stompboxes aren't the greatest. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It looks very durable though. I've had it only a week and put it through its paces already and it has survived. Yay!

I started doing research on this pedal a month before I bought it. There seems to be no one else besides me that has this pedal. This is after all the first review here for this flanger. I scoured the internet, music stores, other musicians, and techs asking if anyone knows anything about this pedal and no one ever seen or heard one but were very curious about it.

So I decided I'll just get the pedal, without hearing it first, only if it's analog. I emailed Rocktron with a simple question as to whether or not this unit is analog or digital. Never got a response back. When my patience ran out I called and talked to an actual human in their tech department and he answered confidently that is is analog. I took his word for it and ordered it. When I got the pedal I unsrewed one of the sides (there goes my warranty) and took a peek inside but the way this pedal is designed you can't see the whole circuitbaord unless you take all the knobs off, take off both sides of pedal and yadda yadda yadda, and me no patience have:) So I shined flashlight in there and I couldn't see all the components, but what I did see looked like analog to me. Looked like a different make of BBD's than what was in the BF2. I hope someone with more electronic knowledge could give me more info.

Rocktron only gets a 6 here because they can't answer an email, but they can answer a phone. Well that's not really a bad thing when I think about it.

Overall Rating : 9
This flanger suits my musical blues, rock, neo-psychadelia needs very nicely. Some flangers don't sound organic enough for my music (BF2). I like this one for the price and sound. If this unit cost $150 or more it wouldn't be a good deal and I would expect a little better quality overall. It's cool to have this on my pedalboard and no one knows what it is. Time will tell if it will be a winner. I'm sure there will be other reviews in the future saying that this flanger is not as good as an AD/A or FL9, but that is comparing a Mazda to a Mercedes and take it with a grain of salt.
