Rocktron MIDI Xchange

It's OK but one big niggle is that you have to press the recall button once you've selected the patch number you want therefore there are two button pushes to make a change - not what I was lookng for but I suppose useful if you don't want your FX unit making all the noises inbetween patches.
The buttons are nicely spaced and the blue LED is cool

Mine was broken when I plugged it in - the up program change switch shorted out intermittently making it scroll up out of control.
I'm sure this is a freak occurance but I've sent it back to exchange it for a midi mouse

Don't know about Rocktron but Thomann have been really good

Overall this would be great for someone who wants to control and amp or rack and doesn't many other pedals. This is because it is very sturdy and big! So it'll take a kicking on stage and be easy to stomp on with big feet. I, however want to control my Whammy pedal program changes and just need smething smaller, lighter and one button press for program chnages. The Midi mouse isn't better, just different I guess.

only had it a month, works ok so far, if i didnt have to special order it i would probably have another for a back up, since they are so inexpensive.

this is the only thing that i was very dissapointed with, it took me a long time to find a midi switch that would work with my G-Major and not cost $500+, ALL i wanted was an up and down control, and finally found the midi exchange after some research. so i go down to my guitar shop and have it ordered(noone carried it at all).

well the guy failed to mention it was going to require a 5-7pin midi cable, that ONLY rocktron makes, and found this out after waiting a week for the exchange, so, i had to order the cable as well. this really ticked me off, luckily it is battery powered as well because it also didnt come with an adapter, wich i can understand, but the cable is proprietary, it really should be included, and this left a very bad taste in my mouth. its not like i can walk in a store and pick one up. the cable is $20-$25 on rocktrons site. so basically this unit, unless you have rocktron cables, will cost you at least $100, wich is still a good price.

if it wasnt for the cable ordeal i would easily give this a 10, its by far the most useful midi switch for the price for anyone who only needs an up and down switch. it is the PERFECT switch if you are only looking to switch from rythm/leads. AND, it works with TC, wich was my main concern at first.

if you need to control more than one unit with midi, this isnt it, but if you just want a rythm/lead there really is no better choice.

i called rocktron and ordered a 7 pin MIDI cable, and it seemed they were somewhat reluctant to sell to a private consumer, rather than a store. But they gave in and sent one to me anyways.

I like this controller a lot, i like the instant recall idea too. Let me explain: say i am on patch 1, and i want patch 12, then i need to go back to patch 1 again, all i do is set it to 12, press recall, and im at 12. Then, to get back to 1 again, all i need to do is push recall again. kind of a neat feature, where it remembers yoru last preset.
