Has the usual compliment of Level (adjusts the volume of the delay in the mix), Regeneration (adjusts number of repeats of the effect), and Time (adjusts delay time). Incredibly easy to use but could have used index markings on the dials for easy reference.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with the following chain: Custom made fuzz face copy (with tone circuit and overdrive circuit filter), Modded Cry Baby wah, Custom Built "Stratoblaster" pedal (boost), Dynacomp, Ibanez Ts808 (modded for more bottom end), EH Small Stone, Rocktron Deep Blue Chorus, Rocktron Short Timer, Hot Rod Deville 212 (with Mercury Magnetics transformers. I play through various guitars ranging from a 1984 Strat, Tele, Godin LG SP-90.

This delay is DA BOMB! It is the most authentic sounding analog delay I've ever heard from a digital unit. Remember folks it is NOT supposed to sound like a regular digital delay. I love that analog delay sound where each progressive delay sounds slightly degraded compared to the last....it tends to sound more like a real room delay. This thing nails it. It has very short delay times compared to digital delays, hence the name "short timer" which suit my style perfectly. (Classic rock and in particular the sounds of David Gilmour of Pink Floyd).

I haven't had any noise introduced by the effect at all and the bypass is clean and doesn't suck tone.

Reliability : 10
It has been the go to delay on my board for three years now. No backup and no problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them. No idea.

Overall Rating : 10
I play mostly classic rock with some 80's and 90's pop, punk, and even some reggae thrown in. Modern pop occasionally makes it in there too. What can I say, I'm 33 years old and have been playing since I was 14....you do the math.....I've tried a pedal or two along the way! For the money this thing is absolutely the best in the biz.

Pretty easy to use--each knob does what it is labelled. I love the Short/Shorter button--the "Shorter" effect is especially cool for people who don't want the ridiculous CHUNK-CHunk-chunk-chunk sound at the end of a palm muted note. This is not a unit for pointy-headed shred-metal guitarists.

The phrase "Digital Delay" should be removed from the unit--I think some of the people expressing dissatisfaction are expecting something more akin to a 80's Boss or Ibanez digital delay. This pedal isn't going to get you that kind of sound; the term "Vintage Delay" works much better. It doesn't sound EXACTLY like an old tape-delay Echoplex or whatever, but it's close enough and much more reliable (especially if you factor in the elimination of breaking/degrading tapes, etc.).

One person lamented how easily the knobs moved or got knocked out of adjusment. Here's a tip for any piece of equipment that has that problem (amp, guitar, effect, etc.):
(1) Remove the knob
(2) Put a small O-ring over the shaft of the potentiometer (put a real tight one that has to stretch to fit around the shaft); roll the O-ring all the way to the bottom of the shaft.
(3) Re-install the knob
The knob will have a little bit more friction, keeping it in the position desired.

The manual was cute--I didn't need it. I like the bright blue warning beacon--you can see if the pedal is on even halfway across the venue!

Sound Quality : 9
I am a recovering anti-Delay-ist.

For 17 years, I used no reverb or delay--I wanted my tone to be as dry as possible. Several reasons for this--
(1) most everybody was using the crazy metallic-toned digital delays when I started playing in the mid-to-late 80's; the combination of delay, chorus and the anemic tones of the day turned me off big-time.
(2) my first two amps either had a broken reverb tank (solid-state Gibson GA20) or no reverb function (tube-powered silverface Fender Bassman 10) at all, much less delay.
(3) a dry signal stands out more, and fattens up the song considerably.
Eventually, I realized that some (not all) songs needed the space that the proper amount of delay can provide. I went to several guitar shops and tried every delay effect pedal I could get my foot on: from cheap to expensive, from digital to analog, from vintage to modern technology...and I eventually found the ShortTimer. It fit in for what I wanted very well.
Price vs. Sound Quality vs. Reliability made this one a winner.

I haven't had the problem with noise that some people commented on (and I hate a hissy pedal). My signal chain is quite long, and noise will inevitably occur...but the Short-Timer didn't add any significant amount. I will admit that I have a Rocktron HUSH pedal at the end of my chain (for both noise reduction and feedback prevention, in the case of my harmonicas), but the Short-Timer doesn't add any problems even with the HUSH turned off. Some people who complain about noise are often using a crappy old patch cable or are turning on too many pedals at once.
My setup is as follows:
62RI Fender Stratocaster (w/Pete Biltoft Vintage Vibe SP90 pickups);
Vintage-Styled hecho-en-Mexico Fender Telecaster (maple fretboard, Mighty Mite P90 in neck position, stock vintage-styled Tele bridge pickup);
1980 G&L F-100 (rosewood fretboard, two coil- and phase-tapped humbuckers);
Also, I play Lee Oskar and Hohner harmonicas through a vintage 1940's Astatic A200 microphone (plugged into the effects board)

Boss TU2 Tuner, Ibanez TS9 reissue TubeScreamer, vintage block-logo MXR Phase 90, Boss RT20 Rotary Ensemble (Leslie cabinet simulator), Dunlop JH2S Jimi Hendrix Classic Fuzz, Dunlop Crybaby (self-modded), Danelectro Daddy-O overdrive, DOD FX40B Equalizer (for added punch against the signal loss), Rocktron Short-Timer and HUSH pedals, then a Morley ABY pedal out to the Normal and Bright channels of a 1963RI Fender Vibroverb (greatest re-issue amp ever in the history of forever). All the pedals are mounted on and powered by a Furman SPB8 pedalboard.

I admit that this is a lot of pedals, but I use each one judiciously; the EQ and HUSH are the only ones that are turned on all the time--the rest are set for maximum tone and texture, especially with the variety of music my group(s) play.

I am very happy with this pedal--it sounds great in my setup.

Reliability : 10
I have had no problems with either of my Rocktron pedals--I do wish they were a bit smaller--real estate on pedalboards is mighty expensive.

Customer Support : 10
I never had to talk to the company--which means their products have given me no trouble, which means they get a 10. The best customer support is the one you don't ever have to use.

Overall Rating : 10
I play guitar/vox/harp/slide guitar with a Texas Roadhouse Music (blues + rock + Outlaw Country-look the definition up in Wikipedia) group called the SCREAMIN' ARMADILLOS. An audience member described us as ZZ Top and the Fabulous Thunderbirds touring with Waylon Jennings.
I also play with a second (studio only) group called Cowboy Gypsies (similar influences but with a more mellow Americana/Texicana style).
This pedal complements my playing style perfectly.
I would buy this pedal again. The only thing I don't like about it is the size--Rocktron really needs to cut down the size of all their pedals.

Couldnt be easier to use. The only problems with use are that the nobs turn way too easily and the blue indicator light is blinding. I thought people here were just being whiners about the bright blue light, but try and play it in a dark place and you cant see anything else and when the too easy to turn knobs get knocked off of your settings, you won't know it. I had to put a piece of masking tape over it and you can still see it. I deducted 2 points for these ridiculous features. The housing is very nice and rugged, would make a nice home for a real pedal.

Sound Quality : 1
I wanted one good sound - old slapback echo. I couldnt see spending $200 on a decent analog delay for that sound. Now I realize I should have because sound wise, this thing is an absolute hunk of shit. Two problems:
1) It's noisy. I don't mean a little noisy, it's noisy like there is something wrong with it. Maybe Roctron wants to sell their "Hush" pedal, I don't know. Anything but the lowest settings give you a ridiculous hum.
2) It sucks your tone dry, even when its off. I might as well play a solid state amp with this pedal because thats what it makes my tube amps sound like (whether its with EL 84's, 6L6's or the 7868's in my vintage Ampeg). I don't get how anyone could think this thing has any use at all. The one good sound I was looking for is totally negated by the fact that it sterilizes the warm tube tone I get out of my amps. I could not be more disappointed in this pedal and should have spent the $200 instead of wasting my time with this doorstop.

Reliability : 9
Very durable. The switches seem solid. It eats 9v batteries in a matter of minutes. Power supply is a must.

Customer Support : No Opinion
They seem like good guys, but I have not dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 1
I've been playing long enough to know what good tone is and when I've wasted my money. I bought this one because I am cheap. Unless you're playing pointless space music in your Mom's basement, this thing sucks. Without a doubt, this is the worst gear related purchase I've ever made. I read the reviews here and hoped the negative ones were wrong. They were dead on. A noisy tone sucking piece of junk.
If you are looking for one of these on ebay, please ignore this review because that is where this one will wind up.

Unlike many that have posted here, I find it very easy to get the sound I am looking for. Having said that, perhaps it is because I am an old school guy and play old school stuff. You just have to be careful when you push it a bit because it does have a tendancy to run away. But, that is easily controlled.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Yes, I get pretty close to the sound of my 1968 (or around there) tape loop Wem CopyCat, which is cool because I don't have to change tape loops after every set. I get subtle slap back that is very much Nokie Edwards sound (The Ventures) as well as the Astronauts, and others from the day. My original echo is a Wem CopyCat tape loop, and I play entirely vitage gear, a '64 Strat, '58 Teli, '62 Fender reverb tank that I bought in '62, and all through a '61 Fender Bandmaster with a single JBL D-130F in the cab. I do a lot of slap back stuff and surf echo in what I do which is mostly surf music and rockabilly. Yes, I was born and raised in Calif. during the time. I think it is a great unit for the price and for digital.

Reliability : 9
Only had it a littly while. Can't say about reliability. I have Wem as a backup whil gigging, but so far I haven't plugged it in. Haven't missed it. And I certainly don't miss making up tape loops and changing them after every set.

No experience in this area. Thank God.

To answer the questions in order:
I play lots of styles, including surf, blues, you name it. I also use the slap back with a ShoBud double 10 pedal steel guitar.
I have been playing for...I guess about 45 years. Only 20 or so of that was professional, though.
As far as my other gear, see above.
I would buy it again.
My favorite feature is its tone (for digital) and ease of use.
It helps my music and I think it is a great value.

One knob for two different delay times in general: Rather short and even shorter.
Three parameters to be set for general volume, delay time fine adjustment and regeneration.
Quite easy to use, but with the exception of the the regen knob:
If you turn it up to greater than about 2/3, it not only generates endless repeats (unlike other delays) it keeps on getting louder and louder and louder until ...?! ... Until you turn the knob back. So what is that supposed to be ?

Sound Quality : 6
Maybe that is intentional, but it sounds like an old tape echo or an analog delay, although it uses digital circuits.
It doesn`t sound "digital" at all, meaning that already the first echo you hear is of significantly lesser sound quality than the original input and the following ones get even worse very quickly.
The pedal then produces considerable hiss which unfortunately sounds crappy and non-musical, compared to real old tape devices.
I think that the box`s printed label saying "digital delay" is misleading for most players, as they will definitely not get what can usually be expected from a digital echo unit: Crystal clear echo sound even until maybe after the 30st repeat or so.
With this box it`s entirely different and that is even more surprising since the delays are relatively short.
It sounds "low-fi" and old-fashioned but yet cannot compare with real vintage gear, but I bet there are people who`ll find it pleasant.
It may be considered some sort of bizarre rarity, and the weird regeneration knob which is capable of blasting your amp just adds to it.

Reliability : 10
Rock-solid and dependable.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 4
For people who like to have the sound of an old echo device from the time before delays went digital, this is it !
For most of the people who want an ordinary digital delay sound, it will be mostly disappointing.
Difficult to evaluate: ??t is very good at sounding bad :-)

I don't like this pedal at all....to be brutally honest. I find myself mucking around with it non-stop trying to get a semi-reasonable sound out of it.

It could be just my personal taste but this pedal is hard work.

Controls are:LEVEL, REGENERATION, TIME & SHORT/SHORTER selector...plus the footswitch itself.

Sound Quality : 2
My rig is: Epiphone Ace Frehley Les Paul, Epiphone Les Paul Studio, Ibanez Lawsuits (1974 Flying V, 1977 Double Neck 6/12), Ibanez PS10, Karina Gold Top Les Paul fed into >Rocktron Short Timer> Marshall DSL100 stack (2 4x12 cabs)with the following in the effects loop MXR Dynacomp> MXR Distortion +> MXR Phase 90. I find the effects loop works well with my MXR pedals.

The sound I get out of this unit is not pleasing to my ears PERIOD. I kind of think it's quite lo-fi and very busy sounding. I can't seem to get it to even come close to what I want out of a delay pedal. I want to have the best of both worlds....I want to be able to choose a vintage lo-fi tape style echo and a crystal clear digitally precise delay. This unit does not give me what I want so I am going to turn to an Ibanez DE7 and see how that one stacks up.

Although this was a gift, the price was NZ$139. It should have been less than NZ$50 because it is not really very musical....unless you want an aimless, busy, undefined style of echo effect.

I tried it in my Marshalls effects loop and the effect basically disappeared....there was nothing but a foggy load of mud, oozing it's way out of my two Marshall 4 x 12 cabs! I thought my Marshall had soiled herself but it was just the Rocktron crap running down her leg....thank god!

Using it before my amp was the only option and even that was not good enough.

It is also really noisey...loads of HISSSS and the ocasional wild POP when switching it on or off...great for destroying your gear with wild, random and uncontrollable acoustics that drive everyone insane and make you look like a total jack-ass on stage!

The only sound I got out of it that was semi-reasonable was by palm-muting with a bit of overdrive on my DSL 100 crunch chanel.

Reliability : No Opinion
As this was a gift and I only had it for a short time (excuse the pun!!)....who knows!

Customer Support : No Opinion
None needed after 1 week.

Overall Rating : 2
You should expect exactly what this pedal is called...SHORT TIMER...what this means is, within a SHORT TIME you will either throw it in the garbage can or hopefully unload it to some poor unsuspecting new-comer!

Seriously people...this unit is only good for your dumpster...it is no good for your effects line up.

I bit tricky adjusting the LEVEL, REGENERATION and TIME levels but only three knobs. I only found one setting that was really all that pleasing. Pretty much a mid level for everything.

Sound Quality : 9
Sound quality is not too good but then it isn't a $300 pedal, so, initially, I was okay with the sound of the thing.

Reliability : 2
Here is where everything seems to fall to pieces, RELIABILITY. The light in the pedal worked for the first two times I used it. I put it away for a couple of months and when I attempted to use again in a studio setting to see if I might be able to gig with it, BLAM. It just stopped working properly. I have not been able to get it to work on any of my amps. Looks like I might be opening her up to see if I can see what might have "snapped."

Customer Support : No Opinion
Since this is only a $69 pedal, I really am not going to bother with customer support. I just won't be using any Rocktron pedals again any time soon. This one gets tossed.

Overall Rating : 3
Given the pedal is only a few months old and only has about one hour of play through her AND has quite working, I would have to rate the pedal, OVERALL, pretty LOW.

Simple as nothing. Just plug in and play! Three different knobs. One for delay level, delay repetition and one for delay time. Just a few tweaks to change the sound you're looking for. No need to read the manual.

Sound Quality : 9
I play an unusual guitar called Starfield Cabriolet SJ(Limited edition). The sound character of the guitar is pretty much a blend of a telecaster and a Les Paul. (Two humbuckers). The amp I use is a Peavey Classic 30 watts all tube. The effects chain I use is a Ibanez/Rocktron elephant compressor from the guitar to the amp's input. In order from start to end in the effects loop I use a Korg stage tuner, Rocktron short timer, Ibanez TS7, Jim Dunlop Cry Baby. When using the short timer alone with compressor it's no noise at all. Of course if you use the TS7 along with the short timer you will get a noisier signal. Not a problem though. It's simply a grreat delay pedal resembling an analog echo in a quiet way. I use it mainly as an ambience "raiser" and a longer time setting for soloing.

Reliability : 9
The construction seems solid and I would defenitely rely on it. Feel no need to have a backup.

Haven't had any reason yet..

I play mainly rock music with roots in the sixties and seventies. (The Band, Juicy Lucy, Clapton, Faces etc). I'm not a professional but have played in different bands for over 20 years and from time to time in a project studio. It's a great delay pedal, almost organic. The best I've ever had!
I feel no need at all to change..

Rocktron Short Time digital delay pedal. Three knobs with a "short" and "shorter" switch. Large green metal case with plastic bits on the input and output jacks. Really simple to use and difficult to get a bad sound. According to the manual, this unit was designed to sound warm and analog.

Sound Quality : 10
First off, let me say I am reluctant to give any product a perfect 10. This unit really deserves a perfect score. In a word, the Short Timer sounds WARM. Actually, it's so warm that it sounds slightly lo-fi -- in a vintage sort of way. I have never before heard a digital pedal as analog-sounding as this one!

I tried the Digitech DigiDelay at my local music store before I bought the Short Timer. The only thing that impressed me about the Digitech was the length of the delay. The sound was typically cold -- even on the supposedly warm "tape delay" setting.

I use the Short Timer for short slapback delays in lieu of reverb. I bought this pedal to use occasionally as an effect with the 50's Fender Esquire RI. Much to my surprise, I use the pedal 100% of the time.

The pedal in slapback mode is not noisy at all. Please note that in order to get a Pink Floyd "The Wall" sound, you must turn all three knobs up almost all the way. This increases noise. I never use the pedal in this way so noise is not a factor for me.

I do hear the pop when the unit is enabled, but it?s no big deal because I keep the pedal on all the time.

Reliability : 7
I don't like the plastic bits on the input and output jacks. I use an adapter and so I keep the pedal plugged in on my pedal board. It's probably not a good idea to plug the unit in frequently.

Otherwise, the Short Timer seems pretty solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
This is a great unit for slapback delays. And at an amazing price! I might look into other Rocktron pedals.

I have been playing guitar seriously since 1989. I'm currently into a more 50's sound with my 50's Esquire RI and the small, all-tube Fender Pro Junior.

I would buy another if it was lost or stolen. I don't think I've ever said that about another pedal before.

My dad bought one of the first echoplexes (original tape delay heaven)in 1966. I recall that summer many hours of bliss..no skills then,,just delay. That said, in order to understand this pedal it would be best if all could hear a TRUE tape delay like fulltone makes now..(1100)..Yes it's easy if you understand what 'regeneration' trully is..the opposite of totally steril DD5 boss...for looping the Boss is fine but for gigging the shorttimer takes the prize in spades.
I will say that the controls are very sensitive..I use a water based white paint pen in case they get bumped...I also use the same pen on the Boogie Recto because that sucker, as awsome as it is, will lose your tone if you just touch an eq knob. I'd say 8 at best because it takes patience.

Sound Quality : 10
I run a PRS HB2 through a Boogie rectoverb..God what a sound that is!!The effect alone is just that..an effect..it's ambient and can be subtle but it adds another awesome dimension beyond reverb..in fact when on, some drummers think that is what they hear.reverb...I should know as I was an idiot drummer for 10 years..When used with some reverb, to me anyway it adds life and "space" to notes but especially chords. Yes it will do the country will ray Ray Falcke etc. double stop slap back as good as I have heard. But for me in a vintage rock / dance band it does so much more for rythm work...It's that thing that happens between kicks snares and bass slaps...sugar in between all the way..I love it when used sparingly..On lead sounds I usually use another longer delay as analogue as I can get Danecho lo fi mode...around 250 to 312 mili. seconds...subtle.. I'll have to give a 10 because nothing else is in this class of sound at this price point.

Reliability : 8
Well it looks tough..great switches and chicken heads...metal but an 8 for touchy knobs...like most.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have no clue and don't care. Isn't it amusing how we guitar players want $2000 service (Boogie)...for a $40 pedal...
Heck it's worth $40 to be able to find a pedal I can give high numbers to that has an earned it.

Overall Rating : 10
As ALWAYS I hate detents but I love knobs like Boogie where it takes some force to move them..A knob one can thump and it spins is too sensitive. I'd definitely get another one even though I bought it like most of us here not really knowing how it would suit my tastes. I absolutely LOVE this delay/echo with chorus and a touch of verb on a slow Number..."way huge sounding" without being overbearing. This pedal will stay for a long time..

Very Simple Dial in the delay you desire very quickly.

Sound Quality : 9
I run a very simple Guitar tone. I have a fender deluxe reissue combo, with an xotic AC BOOSTER, A classic Cry Baby, the SHORT TIMER and an American Deluxe strat (stock with the noiseless pickups). True I like a basic blues sound. I can not however find a tone I like with Reverb. The short timer gives me a great delay with out watering down the tone. Not a magic toy box but there are several different Delay stteings that sound great. This is on at all times and is set as a soft effect to give the tone a good feel. I do not use it to get a dominat effect, if you want a delay to get what I call song specific effects this is not the pedal for you. think of this as a very musical replacement for that
messy spring reverb. Great for adding to a vintage amp to get the nice delays that have become a staple in most any ones gtr tone. the add really does explain the pedal to a tee.

Reliability : No Opinion
I have not had any of the odd clicking and popping sounds come out of this pedal as of yet. I have had it about a month, maybe they have fixed the problems. Really this is the kinda of box you set once and just leave on most of the time. I will not rate this section I have not really gave it the tried and tested abuse as of yet. Check other reviews as there maybe some issues, however the price is great and I can over look some corks for the savings.

I Play blues, and classic rock. Mostly SRV, Clapton, BB King type of stuff. This pedal suits me perfect. didn't effect my tone in any way. Bypass may or maynot be "TRUE" but then again people put a great deal of focus on the gear and for get to just lay back and Play from the Heart. Pedal is a part of my sound and must be replaced if it is lost. I would not even look at other options. If ya want a fancy "look what this box does" type effect get someting else.

This delay is very easy to use due to its somewhat larger size and finger filling knobs, it is not hard to find on the pedal board and everything on my particular unit works perfect. I A/B'ed mine with another of the same and mine was the quieter of the two and the difference between them was very noticable!

Sound Quality : 10
This is the catagory where this pedal really shines. It has managed to kick off my pedal board a Line 6 Echo Park and the Guyatone MD3 with no problem. Although the delay is not a real long one the Short Timer sounds organic and non digital and may I stress again NON DIGITAL! Another great thing for me is that it does not boost the highs and volume like the Echo Park did. This thing sounds about as analog and natural as any expensive analog vintage or botique echo effect. I have had other echo/delays besides what I have now and for the price the vibe and the build quality I think this one is a keeper. Even if I found something better I would still keep this one in the effects arsonal as really good sounding effects are somewhat hard to find. I am running this through the effects loop of a Genz Benz El'Diablo C 30/60 tube combo. My particular Short Timer is very quiet, I keep it on one of the longer settings just about all the time. I do notice a pop when switching to the short setting but it is just once after power up, after the initial pop it stays quiet when switching to the short and shorter settings.

Reliability : 10
I have had other Rocktron gear in the past all of which is gone. I had the Voodo Valve, Pro gap and Intellefex, I still have a Pro Q laying around here somewhere. I used this gear for for about 10 years on a daily basis and NEVER had a problem of any kind. Although this track record has nothing with the longetivity of this Short Timer I don't gig my stuff, it stays at home and is based in a home recording enviroment. I do not forsee any problems with this unit which is about 2 months old.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed them, never any problems.

I have to go with a 10 on this one. The price is killer as is the sound. I do feel these individual effects vary in their build quality so you may want to make sure that you can do a side by side comparison of 2 or 3 of these, I'm glad I did as the one I compared it with made quite a bit of noise. I would purchase this unit again with no hesitation. I think we all wish it had a little longer delay time but I think it is fine the way it is. I have been playing guitar for about 40 years, I have seen it all and heard it all and have owned it all. This is a great sounding delay! Just make sure you get a good one.

Impossible to get a bad delay sound out of it. Easy to adjust. If you're looking for delay stompbox which does _not_ feature ridiculous 2-second delays and such, this is primo.

Sound Quality : 9
The delay sounds themselves are lush and warm. Like a warm incandescent light as opposed to the cold fluorescent of, say, a Boss DD-3. Just exactly what I wanted and nothing extra. I use this with a Tech 21 Tric AC into a Hafler P3000 (150w/channel) which feeds to bass cabs. The favorite artists would have to be just about every guitar player of the last 40 years, and yes, you can get an array of sounds which you might like to emulate from hearing others play. However, I must echo what others have said about extraneous sounds. This unit seems to make a small "pop" sound, very muted, barely noticeable, occcasionally when a note or notes are struck. I found the pop appears much less frequently on the "shorter" setting. Likely this would keep me from recording with it. And, yes, the short/shorter switch does make a loud pop sometimes when hit, but then, for most people, once you've got the setting you like, it will stay there most of the time. Gets an 8 because of the extra noises--I haven't had it long, so possibly those will disappear over time or with certain settings. The delay sounds themselves get a 10, 9 average.

Reliability : 7
I got a "factory resealed one" from zzounds. It worked for about a minute and then just stopped making sound altogether. Luckily zzounds is the best--they shipped me a new one right away along with a prepaid shipping label to return the broken one. How cool is that. Who does that anymore? No problems with the new unit.

I play jazz, blues, rock and combinations of those. Fits perfect. Been playing more than 20 years (90% bass now). I've compared this unit with several others (Boss DD3, digitech rack mounts, other rack units) and this is a winner. If a) I could be sure it would never fail me, and b) it didn't have those extraneous sounds I'd definitely buy it again if stolen.

It's super easy to use. You don't need the manual at all.

I have a few pedals on my list. I have a 1953 Gibson Hollowbody (my pride and joy) and a couple strats for surf running through a Digitech whammy pedal, boss tuner, a ton of different overdrives, and this pedal all into an old Woodson 2x12 combo. I was in a bit of a rush to get some sort of delay so I bought this. It's great for the rockabilly slap-back sound I wanted. Great for surf too. If you're a metal head you might want something else. It's not too noisy at all for a low priced digital delay. It's hard to make a 53 gibson sound bad, but this little green box didn't. Sounds great. Just fiddle withe knobs. I can sound exactly like ME with this pedal.

Reliability : 10
It's pretty reliable. I don't play baseball with my pedals like i do with my guitars so they survive through every show, including this one. Good solid chassis. I don't have a backup, just a ton of batteries. I don't like chords everywhere.

I haven't had a problem with this little monster so I can't tell.

I play in a rockabilly band and this pedal serves it's purpose. I've been playing for about 8 years, on and off. I own an old Epiphone amp and a few more guitars. I would buy it again if it were stolen, definitely. I love that slapback effect. Perfect.

easy pedal to use in fact easier than most because it is wide and uses chicken head knobs so it is easy to look down and see where everything is set. not much of a manual

Sound Quality : 9
for $70 this thing sounds pretty damn good, very clear transparant, easy to get runnaway echoes for a digital delay it is very analog like.i play psyacadelic early gilmore type sound on my origional music so i like to turn up the repeats and change the delay speed on the fly and this does this well unlike the boss dd3 i traded to buy this pedal.i considered the digitech digidelay but it is a little more digital sounding and the knobs are stiff to turn, but it does offer 4 sec of delay.the "short/ shorter" is plenty long in fact a slight bit more than my sib "mr echo" which is better sounding but not reliable.i also get a pop once in a while when engaging the on off switch but not too bad though.

Reliability : 8
extruded metal case pretty sturdy. the short shorter switch looks flimsey though

havent had to deal with them however the botique shop i bought it is pretty good with warrenty

overlooking the on off "click" this is a better pedal than the boss dd3 by far.boss products are overpriced and suck now that they are all made in thiawan.i uasally stay away from chineese made stuff but this rocktron is a good product. the repeats are very controlable unlike the mr echo which runs away almost too easy which is good too. i plan to use both in my board that way i have 2 presets.i also own a rocktron metal planet and i think it sounds better than the boss metal zone and its $20 cheaper. short timer is a better sounding product $30 less the price of boss,or digitech

Ease of Use : 7
Easy to use if you've used a delay pedal before. Three large knobs for level, generation, and time, plus a small push button for short and shorter delay times and a footswitch. There was no manual and none was really needed. I'm not sure why Rocktron put that push button for the short and shorter instead of just incorporating a broader sweep in the "time" pot to cover the full range of delay. Doesn't really make sense.

Sound Quality : 7
This is a tough call. The delay sounds themselves are stellar. I have a Boss DD3 that I've had for ages and this unit sounds much warmer than the Boss. Vintage type echo really. Sounds natural and adds the perfect touch for Gilmour-type solos, as well as Edge-type delay rhythm work. I don't believe this pedal is true bypass but I was hard pressed to hear any difference in the unaffected signal. Excellent.
However! The stray noises this unit can generate might make this pedal unacceptable for some. First of all, pressing that "short / shorter" button sometimes leads to some really raunchy ocean-crashing-on-the shore kind of sounds, even with the guitar volume knob at zero. No rhyme or reason to when the noise will surface. Of course, if you don't hit this button during performance, this shouldn't be a problem. I won't be switching during performance much, so not an issue for me really. A bigger noise problem is when the main on/off footswitch is engaged. The first time I hook up the effect (every time) and then engage the switch there's a pretty obnoxious echo sound (kind of the the unit is playing the internal sound of the footswitch being engaged). This doesn't happen all the time and after that initial nonsense it doesn't happen very often. But to me this is a serious problem. So the sound of the effect itself is stunning, but the noise problems knock down the overall rating here. You'll have to decide if they're important to you.

Reliability : No Opinion
Lots of sharp edges on this box. The machining wasn't very good, but I didn't really expect boutique build quality for such an inexpensive pedal. The knobs don't have a high quality feel but aren't the worst I've used either. The noises I mention above worry me as far as the reliability goes. The pedal was built to a price and it shows. However, the sound is truly stellar. Since I rely heavily on delay for my lead playing in particular, I would probably gig with my Boss DD3 as a back-up. And I always use an ac adapter for my delay pedals. These things can eat up batteries right quick.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them. Their website was pretty decent.

Overall Rating : 9
I play rock and blues mostly. This pedal works very well for the genre. I've been playing guitar for over 20 years. I own lots of guitars and gear. I've been using lots of Fulltone pedals lately. If this pedal were lost or stolen, I'd replace it immediately. I can't live without it now. I love the sound of the delay...rich and warm with the perfect amount of delay time for my style. I can't imagine needing more delay time unless you're into weird wacked out atmospheric types of sound. I researched delay pedals for months. I looked into offerings from Maxon and T-Rex (both way too expensive for a toy), but decided to give this one a try based on HC reviews, the low price, and the sound samples on Rocktron's website. This pedal inspires me to play because it sounds so good. It's definitely an asset. The only thing I wish is that the intermittent noises weren't there. But if that isn't an issue for your application, this pedal offers truly great echo sound. Even with the noise, problem this pedal is a fantastic value.

Delay is fine , shorter time is great for slap back reverb. there is a slight pop when you press the short time to shorter, but it really won't be an issue if you set the mode before you play.
Play threw a JMC 800 Marshall w/ 2 part o caster tele's and an LP spec, I use several other effects but no set order or board ,just pick a fuzz or phaser to suit what I want my playing to be favored with.I got this pedal foe $35 on ebay so I,m happy , Digitech has a cool delay ,but for the money this is a good model to play with.
I can get David Gilmore era Floyd, Twang for counrty, and surf ahhh things great for that.
I didn't hear any hiss ,but I think guys who bitch about slight nosies omited from a stomp box are a little anal.

Freakin' amazing. I have tried a few delays including built-in delay on a Line6 Flextone, ZOOM505, DigiTech DigiDelay. For sound quality this pedal is excellent. The DigiTech DigiDelay has way more features and cost twice the price, yet this ShortTimer smokes it for sound quality. There was no popping sound when I clicked the button either. The 400ms max delay is plenty enough. Anything longer sound like cheese anyways. I could get U2, Pink Floyd, as well as surf crap. :-)

Three knobs, one switch. Even us dumb guitar players know how to use this.
The chickenhead knobs give a good indication what you have dialed up, even in
low-light settings. The blue LED is ridiculously bright.

Sound Quality : 2
My setup: Fender Telecaster or Gretsch Jet into Ampeg Jet (15 Watts tube amp). No other effects used, except for amp-tremolo. Style: Stax (think Steve Cropper) or Swingbilly ( i. e. Brian Setzer, but played lousy ;-) .
WEIRD! I checked two of these boxes, with different guitars, different amps, box placed near the amp or far away and the sound was always HISSY as hell!
Untolerable with the longer delay settings and amp treble turned up, but highly irritating still with shorter settings and amp treble midway! As bad as a badly serviced "Copicat" tape echo from the sixties I compared in A/B.
As no one else commented on that terrible hiss, I wonder: Is it a problem of the european power supply? Would it be less noisy when placed in an effects loop? As my small tube amps don't have that feature, I'll never know....

Reliability : 9
All-metal housing, reliable input/output jacks, knobs and pots are OK, too.
As I returned a Danelectro Wasabi Delay (see my review on that) before buying this, I have to say this looks a lot more roadworthy. IMHO this box will stand abuse
from uncaring bandmates, who accidentally step on it - at least that's the biggest danger that my effects face!

The "Short Timer" is cheap, easy to operate, comes in a rugged metal casing, and
the effect sounds good. A dream come true, if it wasn't for that terrible hiss!!!!!!
Maybe it's a problem I haven't figured out yet(other users comments would be highly welcomed), but for me this hissing makes the effect hardly usable :-(

Totally easy to use. Just 3 knobs...LEVEL, REGENERATION, and TIME. There's a button for Short or Shorter delays, but don't let the word fool you...you can get everything from 50's rockabilly slapback to David Gilmour mega-repeaters if you like. Manual is simple. It's really ready to go right out of the package.

Sound Quality : 9
I've read some of the other reviews of this pedal. I don't agree with the loud popping noise some have noticed when engaging the pedal. Perhaps Rocktron has eliminated that problem. The sound of this pedal is very transparent. I use it with a Les Paul, Tele and an Ibanez RG 550. When I first hooked it up, I just ran it in line with the guitar. Not good. Too much noize in the signal. However, when I ran it thru the effects loop of my amp (Peavey Ultra 60) MUCH BETTER. SUPER QUIET. If you're using your amps overdrive, you really need an effects loop. It makes all the difference. You can get old school Van Halen delay with no problem. Also, I can nail the delay Ronnie Montrose gets on Gamma's tune Voyager...just my personal pick for best delay sound. Check it out.

Reliability : 9
So far so good. Just bought it (7.15.05) and used it at home and haven't taken it out as of yet, but it's housed in a nice, sturdy steel box. Bright LED indicator. It's standing up to my 18 month old daughters abuse. It's like anything...don't abuse it and it'll last. As some have written, the pots/knobs do turn pretty easy. I'd probably mark my settings just in case I bumped them.

I think anything you add to your sound will inspire ideas. I came up with some cool riffs as soon as I started using it. (in 25 years, this is my first delay pedal) For the $60 I paid for it, I could replace it or get something altogether different. It does the job. I've tried other delayss...boss, dod, danelectro...and this one seems to do what they did at a better price.

It's a pretty basic analog-style delay, not programmable. Generally easy to understand and use, but a point off for the two-range button with no indicator stating the current range, a somewhat oversensitive Repeats knob, and knobs that are too easily turned (meaning a stray shoe can change your settings).

Sound Quality : 9
This is one of the best, most natural sounding digital delays i've heard. Most non-loop digital delays fall into two categories... either cold, harsh-sounding, overly precise "digital" sound (Boss, most Digitech), or "tape emulation" which is no more than a fake-sounding lowpass filter. The Short Timer sounds like a particularly clean analog delay - high praise indeed! Think Wall-era David Gilmour delays. It's really hard to get a bad sound out of it.

As an added plus, it will do runaway echoes with a twist of the repeats knob - many digital delays prevent such abuse. It also changes pitch when you twist the delay time knob, rather than chattering like so many digital delays do. It's really an excellent analog simulation.

It's not true bypass, but with a 1 megaohm input impedance, it has no noticable effect on the sound when turned off.

It gets a 9 out of 10 only because it isn't actually true bypass, and it isn't actually a tube Echoplex, and there are a handful of (much more expensive) digital delays that sound even warmer and nicer. But my ears say it rules the sub-$100 category.

Reliability : 9
The case is solid extruded aluminum, and the footswitch seems plenty tough, so high marks there. I don't like that the knobs might get moved accidentally, but they're recessed so it could be worse. Also, the input/output jacks don't hang on to the cable as tightly as i'd like. Not an issue if you use a pedalboard, but if you leave pedals on the floor a good kick could unplug it. So mostly good, with some minor worries.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
This is a good pedal by any standard. But for $55 new, it's a STEAL. If something happened to it, i'd mostly likely get another one, just because i don't know of anything that matches it for sound, reliability, size, and price. Heck, i might get a second one, just for an additional "preset".

It's currently playing with a Blackbox Oxygen compressor, Blackstone MOSFET Overdrive, Prescription Electronics Germ (clean buffer, always on), Keeley-modded Rat II, Danelectro wah (another cheap wonder), vintage MXR flanger, and some old DOD chorus. It's not keeping cheap company! Amp is an Ampeg VT-22 (the poor/wise man's Fender Twin!), main guitar is a Gibson Blueshawk.

Sonically, i'm using it for off-beat Edge/Gilmour-style timed echo, long lead echoes, and rockabilly slapback sounds. It's great for all those things.

One Level for the controlling the level of the delayed signal, Repeat and Time. It came with a manual but only a dumb ass will require a manual to use this product. Terrific Blue LED. It has two modes, short and shorter. Both are very usable and great. The only problem is this short / shorter button is some cheap plastic, which looks scary that it will wear out anytime. I wish it was like their ON / OFF switch, so that I could have two delay settings in the same pedal.

Sound Quality : 10
It's pretty awesome. It creates a great reverb kind of effect. Sometime I just plug in my AMT Fatal Tube Distortion and this Delay and that's it, I have an almost pro sound with a simple and cheap guitar and amp. It's great value for money for it's price. It's not stale like Boss Delays.

Reliability : 9
It's looks sturdy. I usually handle with care even it's built like a tank. The best thing about Rocktron pedals are they are big and the switch is not placed too closed to the knobs like many others. The short / shorter switch looks scary that it might pop off any second.

I cover vintage Blues and Rock n Roll but played my way. Our band is an Improvisational, Hard Blues Rock Band. I take old Blues Stuffs, play it heavy like the 80s hard rock and also improvise and jam a lot on the solos. Sometimes my solos get as long as 20 minutes. This pedal suits my playing as well as my budget. I initially bought it because it was the cheapest in the market but now I dont regret. I guess I wont lose this. If it gets old and worn I will see what best in the market and what suits my budget at that point of time. I love this pedal but I dont go by what some people believe that they will buy it even after several years if it gets lost. I do believe lot of companies are working day and night to bring in better products. Dont take me wrong. This is a great pedal and if I have to replace it now, I'd replace it with the same pedal only.

Easy.
It's kinda hard to tell what position the short/shorter switch is set to, but youe ears should help you with that.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
I tried this pedal at a shop.

First - the sound is quite good. I was surprised how long the delays could get given the name. Very cool decay and smooth sound, despite being digital (btw it actually says "digital delay" on the casing). There's a surprisingly wide sweep of range in the controls, and it easily self-oscillates. I wish there was a knob for tone or resolution control over the delays. Also, there really should be a FOOT switch to switch between "short" and "shorter," instead of the push button it currently has. Those 2 (relatively) minor improvements would put this pedal in a very desirable class.

I have several delays, but was still very tempted to bring home the Short Timer because of its unique and inspiring sound.

HOWEVER: As mentioned it makes a loud pop when engaged, and the pop annoyingly repeats per the delay's settings. With the regen high it doesn't stop or fade (or, at least, I wasn't willing to sit there waiting it out). This is a ridiculous flaw, especially for a delay pedal. If it HAS to pop, it better be true bypass, and this is not. Since I leave delay on pretty much all the time, I could live with this, BUT the short/shorter button also "pops" occasionally when switched. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does it's a harsh crackle sound that unpleasantly repeats with the delay. That takes the pedal from imperfect to unacceptable.

It's also possible I demoed a bad unit. It was really noisy at first, but the guy at the shop said it was the power adapter, said it was the wrong one. He put a battery in it and it got better, but still hissy, especially as you increased the mix towards wetter settings. Could have been the store's set up, but I told him he should send it back to Rocktron, either way.

Reliability : No Opinion
I have another Rocktron product that has had no problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've emailed them in the past and they replied quickly. If I had bought this pedal through mail order and it sounded like this, they would definitely be hearing from me again!

All in all, it's a unique and potentially very cool pedal -- except for a few mechanical flaws! What's frustrating is that the tsunami chorus I have has none of these problems, so i KNOW they can fix it. I would keep an eye on Rocktron in the event that they make some improvements.

Rocktron I hope you're paying attention ...

heres the chain. Gibson Les Paul, or Explorer, or ES-335 into the pedals. boss tu-2 -> boss super shifter -> digitech space station -> Morley deluxe flanger -> short timer -> boss noise gate. All wired to an morley a/b box to take then completely out of the loop. And an mxr micro amp running straight. Then into a JMP100 2203 Marshall. With a 1960 cab. 75 watt celestions. Boring eh? Anyway... Its not noisy at all except sometimes when you turn in on with a ton of regen it clicks its way in before you play anything. More annoying then a downfall though. Does a great impression of a solid state echoplex.

Any delay pedal is easy to use, and this one is no different. There are three knobs - one for delay time, one for number of repeats, and one for the volume of the effect. There is also a switch for 'short' or 'shorter' delay times although I see no use for the 'shorter' delay settings.

Sound Quality : 8
Using this pedal in my amp's fx loop, the delays sound very good - better than the Boss DD-3, Boss DD-6, Boss RV-3, and Ibanez DE-7 I have owned in the past. Unfortunately on high gain settings (which I use a fair amount of the time) the delay is audible when the effect pedal is supposedly off. This can be gotten around be turning the switch from 'short' to 'shorter' (the switch's only good use in my opinion). Which brings up a point - they should have made it so there are two footswitches like the one to turn the effect on and off. Even without the problem of hearing the 'short' delays on high gain, why have this switch at all if it is not a footswitch? I have tried to use my foot to turn it on and off but it is not easy.

Reliability : No Opinion
As reviewers below have noted, the casing is of metal and appears to be strong. The knobs are plastic and turn very easily and may not be so strong.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 7
I don't know why Rocktron couldn't (1) make this pedal true bypass, thus avoiding the problem with the effect being audible in some situations when it is supposed to be off, and (2) make the switch for 'short' and 'shorter' delay times a footswitch just like the one for turning the effect on and off. The only other issue with this pedal is the blue light that comes on when the pedal is on. It is so ridiculously bright, you need a welding mask to look at it. Who knows what they were thinking. It's way too bright. This pedal will do the job for now, and for the price it's a good deal. However, I will eventually be replacing this with a better pedal when I can afford to do so.

Typical delay pedal. Knobs for level, repeats, and delay time. Nothing more or less is needed.

Sound Quality : 10
I do not experience a pop, hiss, or tone change when using this pedal in my amp's fx loop. Just very pretty delays unlike I have ever heard in the other three digital delays I have owned in the past. I don't ever use long delays so this pedal is perfect for me.

Reliability : 10
The knobs turn very easily and often get turned and I have to put them back where I want them. The case is metal and appears to be very strong. I have no worries about this pedal. I have owned it for a few months now and have had no problems.

Overall Rating : 10
Better than Boss digital delays and less than half the price. I don't see how a guitarist can justify not buying this pedal.

Pretty easy to use, with all the standard controls for a delay unit. The most interesting feature is the "short/shorter" button, which takes you from the shorter delays to the longer ones on the fly with the tap of a carefully placed toe.

Sound Quality : 5
This unit sounds bright. It does not have true bypass, and there is a very slight change in tone when running through the unit when it is off, mostly a loss of attack. The "short/shorter" button had a tendency to create a funky digital sound when engaged and disengaged, rendering it useless in a live setting. Also, each time you turn the unit on, the first tap of the footswitch yeilds a loud pop.

Reliability : 5
The case feels sturdy, but the knobs feel very cheap and light. They are probably mounted directly to the circuit board, which would be bad news.

Overall Rating : 5
This is an entry-level pedal. For it's price of $60 bucks, it's not too bad. If you're looking for something pro quality, keep looking.

Three knobs and one switch, very easy to figure out how to use. No instructions manual necessary (although it comes with one).

Sound Quality : 6
Unfortunately, this pedal makes a high-pitch whistling sound. It is there even when the pedal is off, and becomes much louder when one. the delays sound nice, but the whistling is unacceptable. I am using it in front of my amp, so I don't know how it would sound through an effects loop. Without whistling I'd give a ten, but I can't because of the whistling.

Reliability : 9
Looks sturdy, aluminum case.

I didn't contact Rocktron about the problem this pedal had - just returned it. Blue LED light is so bright it hurts my eyes. I put a piece of duct tape over it and then it was the normal LED brightness.

Overall Rating : 6
For the price these pedals sell for, I was really hoping it would be the delay pedal I was looking for. I will keep searching...

Super easy to use. Effect level knob, Regeneration (# of repeats) knob, and Time (length of repeats) knob, as well as switch for "Short" and "Shorter" delay times.

Sound Quality : 10
This is the fifth delay pedal I've owned and easily the best sounding. I won't pay the money for analog delay pedals, so this one is it for me. Does not have the harshness of Boss pedals. Very nice pretty delays for clean or soloing, or whatever. I don't use long delays so this is fine for me. I can tell it's not true bypass - the tone is altered just barely. I don't care though. It's not a big change and doesn't make my setup sound worse, just barely different.

Haven't owned it long enough to rate this. Made of metal, looks very sturdy.

Easy to use. May take some time to get the sound you are looking for, but easy to dial in different sounds. The odd thing is the on/off indicator light is so bright, it almost blinds you looking at it.

Sound Quality : 8
I run numerous guitars into a toneworks 104ds into this, into an ice box chorus, into an old tube amp. sounds good. It won't be a major change in sounds, at least not the way I set it up, but just enough of the subtle sounds to make your sound that much better

Reliability : 9
built well. All aluminum chasis. Footswitch seems sturdy.

n/a...but a certain m123 music retailer I purchased another item for recently is a pain in the butt to deal with. I doubt I will ever do business with them again. buyer beware with them

For $30 new, I couldn't be happier with this pedal. I play mostly rock, and 80's type metal, and it fits in well there. I have been playing for 7 years as a hobbyist but know a decent product when I hear it.

The manual is as expected. Not much to it, where to put it in the efx chain, etc. But there's really nothing to learn. Three knobs, all of which do what they do when you turn them, so the learning curve is short. And one button for "short and shorter" delay. Short has a range from between 0 and 4/10 sec., and shorter is between 0 and 2/10 sec. Anything longer than that is space music or sampling anyway.

Sound Quality : 10
This stompbox is dead quiet. Zero noise. But, wait, there's more! The regeneration control is amazing. Herein lies the "vintage" aspect of this effect pedal. It's hard to describe, but you get decay that's not at all like any Digitech or Roland that I've ever owned. It's just this side of reverb, but not. And the volume control is like having a mix control in an effects loop. The tap-back is perfect. You can play anything and it sounds like a yellow Sun record. Then, push the button for slightly longer delay and you can get all Jimmy Page or David Gilmour with it. Forget about samples or doubling yourself, that's not what it's for.

This is a brand-new, 2003 release item. But I have a obsolete Rocktron Big Surf tremolo with Hush and it's bulletproof. No reason to think this won't be equally reliable, so I'm giving it the highest rating.

Never called them. Good website, though.

I've owned several high-end digital delays and an awesome Korg tape delay. I sold my Digitech PDS 8000+ to a guy from London when I was Switzerland two summers ago and have been looking for anything that could touch it ever since. I actually like this unit better, at 1/4 the price, with no quirks or hassles, noise, background swish, nothing problematic. (By the way, this model was released in Europe before the U.S. It lists for about 75 Euros and I've seen them for 59 Euros on sale). I suppose they could have put side-by-side metal stomp switches so that you could switch back and forth between short and shorter without bending over, but that's not really a criticism, just an observation.
