Many other reviewers have the Blue model. I've never seen one. I bought a used black version on Ebay. It works pretty well, other than some slight crackle from the input jack. In my pedal board that goes away.
It definitely sounds better than any digital chorus I've heard. I expected a richer and fuller sound from this chorus. I have a Ross Phaser Distortion pedal, and the Phaser is the best I've ever heard. The Ross Chorus pedal is better than most other chorus pedals I've tried, but I like my EH Small Clone a lot better. The Ross Chorus and the EH Small Clone are both on my pedal board, and together they create some very rich chorus ensemble sounds.
I agree with a previous poster below, beyond the half way point the depth gives too much detune effect, which is the problem I have with most chorus pedals. I prefer a milder effect.
All in all, though I was somewhat disapointed that this pedal doesn't live up to the hype, I am at least pleased with it. I play it through a 1971 Les Paul Custom into a Fender Twin or Fender Bandmaster.
I still prefer the EH Small Clone over this pedal.

It lasted this long, but who knows. I live in New Orleans and have asked several good electronics tech's about fixing this pedal if it breaks. They all told me the parts are almost impossible to find, and schematics would help. There aren't a lot of these pedals around.
Anything this old is a crap shoot - nothing lasts forever.

One of the better analog chorus pedals made, but I don't feel it lives up to the hype everyone has for it. For the price you have to pay for some of these on Ebay you can buy a good new boutique analog pedal with a warranty. And the boutique models I've heard sound better.
Don't get me wrong, this pedals sounds good, but so do a lot of other analog chorus pedals, many sound better for the price you may have to shell out. I've seen these go for $200.00 and more on Ebay and Craigslist. That's a lot of money for a used pedal that you have to guess about it's remaining life. If you have to shell out more cash to get it repaired, if that is even possible, you may as well buy a new boutique pedal - with warranty.
I like Ross pedals, I bought several back in the 80's when they were new and they still work very well. I got this chorus on Ebay recently. I just don't understand why everyone thinks they are better than they really are - and for the price. Oh, well
I've always wondered why a company that made a decent product folded? Maybe because they started to cut corners and produced inferior pedals made in Taiwan that didn't stand up to the quality customers had come to expect from Ross.
The original pedals were great. The reissues, like the black chorus I've got rather than the blue one; like the all white version of the Phaser Distortion as opposed to the original purple one; like the black Flanger as opposed to the original red one.

I use harmony central but this is the first time I am writing. I HAD TO WRITE ABOUT THIS VINTAGE ROSS CHORUS!!! Oh Man, what a sound!!----i have tried a few other chorus`s including the vintage boss ce-2, and i had a JC-120---those are both VERY nice chorus`s but this ROSS UNIT IS INCREDIBLE AND MORE THAN HANGS with those beautful effects. Very sweet shimmery chorus sound and incredible range within the unit even to an awesome uni-vibe-and swirly-leslie-like sound. Rate and depth control create the most impressive range of effects on this unit--rang of sound is where the ross exceeds the boss models.

I bought this on ebay and played it for about an hour through my Orange Rocker 30 combo and am mesmerized by the sweet chorus and swirly range of vibrato sounds. Really the best I have heard!! Such and incredible piece of sound creation I cannot put it any better. I wanted to take the time to let my fellow musicians know what kind of incredible unit this is, and i just dont see much if anything on it--here on HC or anywhere for that matter. AN ABSOLUTELY OVERLOOKED GEM!

Very easy to use pedal, 2 knobs:
one controls the speed of chorus
one the depth

I use this wth a bad monkey, morley had horsie 2, marshall echohead and isp deimator. my amp is a laney aor2.
it can be a little noisy on the dirty channel, but then again..few pedals arent noisey. The effects can be ranged form very subtle to prominent sounds. I generally use this to add depth and colour to my clean sound and it works a charm!

id gig without backup, the switch seems sturdy and recessed knobs make it hard to stomp on the pots.

I play a range of music form blues to shred and love it to death. Perfect to add glisten to your clean sounds, or thicken your dirt.
If it were stolen, id try to find a new one a.s.a.p, ive yet to play a chorus that soudns as lush and rich as this ross.
The only thing i can fault on it is the lack of l.e.d, but thats not really a problem.

The only two knobs a decent chorus needs - rate & depth. Unless you max out the depth and rate you will not get a bad sound. This is one the black made in Taiwan models.

This is one seriously rich, analogue chorus, at times can even be too rich. I've used it for about for about 5yrs and during that time had the chance to A/B it with a variety of other units - Boss CE2, Elecro-Harmonix Small Clone, Visual Sound H2O, MXR Micro Chorus as well as various digital 'modelling' choruses and every time, without fail, I've been most impressed with the Ross. I love the CE2 but it's just too subtle, and the rate doesn't go fast enough to do anything approaching a decent Leslie sound whereas the Ross will do very fast, and very deep!
Despite its age it's not at all noisy, and gives the tiniest of perceived volume boosts when engaged. With overdrive/distortion it can get almost flangey when depth is at maximum, but with lower depths you can get that shimmery, Boss chorus effect.
I use it with a japanese Strat or Gibson semi (for those bad 70s Pat Metheny sounds) through Fender silverface amps and various other analogue pedals.

This must be one of the lost gems of chorusing. Forget your old or reissued EH, Boss, or MXR pedals and track one of these down. You will not be disappointed.

I play a Yamaha AES620 into a DSL50 and I put the pedal out in front of the amp. This is one of my favorite pedals that I have grown to love. The chorus lies a little more on the uni-vibe side of things. It will definitely color your tone and give a slight volume boost when engaged but all in a good way. The best way I can describe it is that it has a very lush and swirling chorus sound with a lot of vibe to it. I usually set the rate low and the depth at half. If you are looking for pristine chorus sounds this is not the right pedal but for more rich tones try this pedal.

only 2 nobs and a stomp swith. old syle tip -ve adaptor. no problem as i use a pedalboard with the appropriate connectors.depth nob can cause sickly detuning if rate is too high, but a balance between rate and depth is easily acheivable.

Nice older analog chorus. Fairly thick, but in a pleasing way...doesn't have some of the shrill overtones I've heard with the Boss CE-2 and others. Give it a 9.

No idea here. Is ROSS even around anymore? Most of the gear I see from them is on the used market--circa late '70's to mid '80s...

Overall, I give it a "9". Sounds similar to a mid-late '70's ELECTRA Chorus I used to own...pick one of those up if you find 'em cheap! Great sounds..! Some older MXR's are slightly better than the ROSS in my opinion, and the original SMALL CLONE is a tad better (..close race though). I have not tried a whole lot of the so-called "boutique" pedals. A few...although I thought for the most part that they were not ALL THAT especially for anywhere from $175--$500...I prefer the real deal old, original issue stuff--(lot of times better). Analog rules...(I prefer not to spend hours pouring over the latest ROLAND MANUAL to program patches on the latest $2,000.00 processor..). This applies to guitarists mainly. If you play keys, please rush down to ROLAND or KORG and pick up the latest 650 page manual to play with and program all nite long... Nothin' beats the sound of good 'ole footstompers, although BEWARE...sometimes you have to find & try 2 or 3 different ones to find the "ONE" with the sweet tone...don't believe that ANY OLD HIGHLY RATED PEDAL ALL WILL SOUND THE SAME....a lot of times the consistency "varies" to say the least (especially with '60's and '70's pedals). Ya gotta try a few different ones, even the same make and model....you may think that a certain one is awesome, only to find that another of the same make/model you compared it to is 5 times BETTER in TONE..! Really....OVERALL the old ROSS CHORUS is a "9".

Depth and rate. Speed goes from very slow to very fast
Sound Quality

You can tell it's analogue straight away - quite thick. There is a very slight boost when you switch it on and slight extraneous noise.
IMO it has two good sounds:
1. Full depth, rate 7-10 o'clock full a warm, full chorus sound that's really thickens up distortion or makes clean chords stand out.
2. Half depth, full rate for a reasonable fast leslie sound. With depth any higher the detuning is a bit much. Particularly good on the neck pickup with a bit of overdrive.
Otherwise it's nothing special but for this price well worth it. Certainly superior the the old Boss CE-2.

I am no chorus afficionado but I do appreciate the fast leslie sound that this unit can produce. You can really hear it swirling away as the guitar signal dies down (as if the speaker is still spinning in the background). I also own an old MXR Micro Chorus which I think poduces a sweeter chorus effect but gives a major signal boost when engaged and is quite noisy.
If you find one cheap go for it but it certainly doesn't deserve a 'vintage' price-tag.
