Only two knobs (RATE and RECYCLE) so it's a snap to adjust. There may have been a manual for it way back when but I wonder how much info that thing would have had in it!

The phase sound is great--a nice vintage analog sweep. A point deducted because it doesn't appear to be true bypass. I played through a Fender Twin for a few years but it was too much amp for the small rooms we played so eventually I got a Ross Loudmouth (which is smaller and seemed much lighter at the time). I also used a Ross Distortion pedal for a while but eventually traded it in for others (e.g., Tube Screamer) to get a more overdriven (as opposed to distorted) sound.

Big, bulky and metal--never had any trouble with it and I used it several nights a week throughout the 1980s.

Never dealt with them and I doubt that the warranty was for thirty years anyway.

Since the 1970s I played (in order) punk, new wave and alt rock with this unit and it traveled a LOT.
My favorite guitars have always been Gibsons (S-1, Les Paul), but I finally got a Strat a few years ago because it had a MIDI pickup built in.
If the Ross Phaser were lost (stolen) I wouldn't knock myself out trying to find a new unit. Phase was never a crucial part of my sound, just used for occasional seasoning and newer pedals would fit the bill while addressing my few minor complaints...which are:
Changing the battery requires using a tool to remove four screws, which I find unacceptable after using so many Boss pedals.
So obviously an AC adapter is in order...well, it's got a weird 1/8" male input so you need a separate line (as opposed to a step in a daisy chain) and for some reason they put it in FRONT of the guitar input (!?). Also, the power input is on the side, so I could never squeeze the adjacent pedal as close as I would have liked.
Also, there is no LED. Yes, you will know it's on when you hear it, but I like to know which pedals are engaged BEFORE I hit my first note.

Absolutely juicy. There is nothing subtle about this thing. It IS NOT true bypass, and you can tell there is some high end roll off when bypassed. Hence the 9.
But i have true-bypassed this pedal and now its a 10.

7 if you dont know the intracacies of this pedal.
99.9% of pedals are designed as "negative ground". In other words the (-) side of the battery is connected to "signal ground" (the casing and therefore the outer conductor of your guitar cable).
THIS pedal is "positive ground", so the (+) of the battery is connected to the casing. So if you try to use the 9VDC input or the pedal, and your power supply is shared between effects (like with a daisy chain), then you will short out your power supply (because the Ross connects +9v to the casing and other pedals connect ground to the casing, and your guitar cable connects the casings of all your pedals together - so 9v gets shorted to ground). None of the other Ross pedals do this. Just this one. I recommend ONLY using a battery, OR using an isolated 9V adapter just for this pedal, or power your whole rig with an isolated supply, like a voodoo labs pedal power.
But if you know all this and plan for it, this thing is a tank.

OUT OF BUSINESS.
If you have a problem with one of these, you can email me. I've worked on just about all the different Ross pedal models so maybe i could provide at least some insight.

I've played for 10 yrs. Tinkered with pedals for 8. Built and fixed pedals for 4. This is one of my top 3 favs. My last one was stolen (incidentally, this was my first pedal given to me by someone who didnt know what it was), so i bought a broken one from ebay and restored it.
One of the things i like about Ross pedals is that they are in-your-face. Nothing subtle about them. This pedal is completely unashamed to be a phaser.

Play classic rock, blues just like everyone else. I would miss it if I lost it, but I've never seen another one. I don't like the jack for the wallwart as nobody makes a male one anymore and i hate fucking batteries. Playing for 17 years. Les Pauls, Strats, Tele, PRS, Marshall, and Fender baby!

I think this pedal sounds great... i play alot of metal(kinda stuff youll hear on panteras cowboys from hell), stuff like ted nugent and judas priest, and some clean pretty chord type stuff and i can find a setting on this pedal that sounds good with it all. the lower end of its sweep has a tone i wish i could just pause it on and the high end really makes lead work cut through and sound powerful. and if you have played this pedal and know what tone im talking about on the low side of its sweep and know of somehting that can get that sound with out the phasing please please please let me know. :P

well for somehting that fits with every style i play from blues to classic rock to metal its an awesome value. if it were stolen or lost i probably wouldnt replace it becasue i most likely wouldnt be able to find another one. hehe...what i wished it had though would be an option to pause its sweep at the current depth... and to work with no batteries or power adapter... hehe... dont look like eihter is gonna happen ;)
