Ease of Use

Simple set up. Quick start directions are printed right on the unit. Manual is good and is available in pdf format from sabine.com. Automatic gain adjustment would've have made this category a 10. (If you don't lower the gain after setup, you will clip.) Later models like the 2020 will handle this for you.

This unit is meant to be used to control feedback in a mixer's single channel (thus the name "solo"). The manual states that it can, however, be used between the mixer and power amp on smaller PA's. I am using it in this manner for our 3 piece classic rock band's monitors. It works incredibly well. Monitors are now punchy and loud, even in difficult venues. I can use my board's graphic EQ to tailor the sound to my liking instead of controlling feedback. Sound quality is great, just don't forget to lower the gain after setup.

Got it used, practiced and gigged with it for 3 mos., no problem. No backup needed, if it failed, I'd just remove it (and lower my monitor volume and jack up my EQ). Seems solid. Have to give it a 10 here as it hasn't failed me yet.

I'd say that this unit would be good for any style of music (or speech). Although this unit is for feedback control, the real beauty of it is that it frees up your EQ so you can tailor your sound to your liking. During setup it locates the problem frequencies and notches them out with 6 extremely narrow filters. During performace, 2 remaining filters are monitoring for any new feedback frequencies that develop and react accordingly. This thing works extremely well. This technology is a must for any PA. I have just puchased a 2020P (2 channels, 12 filters per channel) so I can cover the mains and monitors, and I will keep this unit as a backup.
