It's a two channel stomp box. Volume, gain, bass and treble contols. It's pretty easy to use. the manual even walks you though how to get certain sounds it don't understand how. Very easy to get a good sound out of. I use the basic rock setup explained in the manual. I set my amp for a very clean sound and use the pedal for a rythym and lead sound. I do like it better with the volume at about 9 o clock instead of 11 as suggested.

I bought this pedal to use with a headphone power amp so I can get real tube sounds when I play at home and without annoying the wife or neighbors. Well I don't care about the neighbors that much so mainly this is ofr when I can't play my Prosonic through it's 4x12.
It took me a couple days of playing around with this pedal beofre I could get a sound I liked but then one day it all came together for me. The key is to set the volume on the pedal so that it is the same as your on your amp with the pedal bypassed. Otherwise it will either push the amp into unwanted overdrive or it will be very muddy because of the volume drop. I set my amp up for good clean tone and i use the rhythm channel on the pedal for a pushed/break up sound and lead for well lead sounds.
This pedal really responds well to single coils and humbuckers. My strats and telecasters sound awesome on this pedal. It's instant Stones on the rhythm channel. With my Fenders I like to put the gain at 3 oclock or maxed out. It really sounds like a cranked Bassman, roll back the volume and you've have a great clean tone. I've ready other reviews that say this pedal takes the chime out of their strats. I haven't experienced it at all but with the gain maxed and I dark amp I could see how that would happen. My strats and teles are very chimey through this pedal. I really like the pushed sound I can get with this pedal. I plug my Mayer fuzz in front of it and I'm in Hendrix heaven.
Now for the Paul. My Les Paul loves this thing. I just turn the gain down a little and I'm Zepplin. It's called the twin tube classic for a reason, if you love classic rock this pedal is it.

I've had this sucker for a month. So far so good. You have to replace the tubes eventually but come on it's a tube preamp. I've never heard people complain about replacing the tubes on their amp.

I bought this pedal to rock and I love it. It's $220 but it's the best $220 I've ever spent. I went shopping for a liitle practice amp with a headphone jack. I played all the ones at GC and left disappointed. I read the reviews and bought this the next day from MF.com I figured with their return policy if it turned out to be all hype I'd just send it back. I kept it. I run it through my Digitech RP21D into a set of sony studio monitors. I like the RP but the distortion has that digital edge, this solved the problem.
I don't normally write reviews but if you're thinking of buying this pedal, do it. The price is steep but it's a tube amp in a box, try to find a decent two channel tube amp for that price. If you like rock, blues or country this is the ticket. If you like metal go buy that SD metal thingy or buy this and give metal a rest. I'm interested to see how the new blue tube sounds compared to this one.
To resume if you can't get a good tone out of this pedal give up, you're never gonna find it. Learn to play the stereo or recorder or something.

If your looking for a BTO Grand Funk bell bottom rock n fn roll sound. you can't beat this pedal. I was actually turned off to the sound. Yes, it is tube like, but more like a cranked Deluxe Reverb-I owned a 65 Black Face, the red switch was harsher. Didn't get the sustain I was looking for. I used it as a front end for recording with nominal results. But, here's what I found recently. If you want a more driving sound, plug in a ss distortion pedal in front. You will get compression sustain, harmonic bliss. Hey, you plug your distortion etc into an amp, well look at this as a tube preamp section on an amp. I have a ss amp-Fender Acoustisonic. the big one...and it sounds great through that. I can't image how good it would sound through a real amp. My Les Paul sings and sustains like it should. That real nice sweet spot sustain where you get solid sustain with harmonics glowing all over it. Thats what Im tlaking about! And it sounds good straight into my recording preamp as well. Its now a keeper as far as I am concerned. Giving it a 9 because it did require an addition pedal or tow for me to get my sound.

Bought it used and it is still going strong after 2 years. I hear the mini tubess are designed for extended life. I don't play out any more..so I don't leave it on for long periods of time like I would if I was set up on stage. It seems very strudily build though. Maybe Im just lucky I didn't have any issues with it so far.

Never dealt with them. Nor would I ever. I have learned over the years that it is impossible to get through to a big company so don't even try. And don't act surprised if a big company gives you the cold shoulder. The mass produce these things in China unfortunately. If I didn't get a good price on this thing used. I would have went the boutique route because 9 times out of ten you can get the guy who created the thing on the phone within a few rings -that is if you call between business hours. And my experience with many of the folks is they love to talk up their products, get feedback and generally celebrate in the mutual love of music and tone pursuit. You just ain't gonna get that from a big company. Of course this is a topic for one of the forums.

9. Thats is when used in conjuction with external effects. A 6 without them. But like all these reviews, its subjective. If I had a tube amp, I may have gotten better results. But if I still have my Deluxe..or something sonically close, I wouldn't have had the desire to buy this. It sounds like from other reviewers that the "classic tone" term is dropped quite a lot when describing this puppy. And if that is what you are after-70's Grand Funkin BTO Keep on Truckin rock n roll. If that's what your lookin for then party hardy.

This pedal is very easy to adjust to taste. The global EQ is very simple - 1 Treble & 1 Bass (unfortunately no mid). Has 2 settings 1)Basic OD 2)Heavy OD. Each with a volume and gain control.
The controls are reasonabley responsive on the EQ side. Very responsive on the gain/volume control. No problem or time to dial in some great tones.

My gear: Epi LP with Rockfield Vintage HB's, Handmade Telecaster with Dimarzio Twang Kings. Amps - Randall RG75G3 and a Crate V-30 with 212 Tone Tubby Half Cab. Numerous assorted effects.
This pedal is great. It can be muddy with the Bass up and on the Neck pickup alone (however on my LP I have PAF replicas that will affect this). It has loads of power and the tube sound is rich and full. It definately has a vintage flavour to it. I've had this pedal for almost 2 years now. When I was first checking this and other pedals out, I was directed to the Fulltone OCD as being a superior pedal. At that time I didn't have a fully tube driven amp so I went the way of the Twin Tube.
Since then I've added a Fulltone OCD to my chain as well. If you are looking for more original tube sound and power definately invest in the Twin Tube. It has a more natural growl and warmth that the OCD just doesn't have. On the other hand, The OCD is much more articulate.
I seldom use the higher gain side. I find that it is just too much of a good thing.
Like most overdrives, especially ones that are tube powered, there is some noise. On the lower setting, the noise is barely audible, but still present. On the high gain setting it can become irritating.
I find this pedal great for achieving ACDC Angus Young tones. I did not buy this pedal for playing metal. In the area of Metal this is not the right effect - It is an OD not a distortion.

As I said above, I've had this pedal for about 2 years now and have never had any reliability issues with the pedal. Good thing, I've heard (not confirmed) that the replacement tubes for this thing are difficult to come by. Just something to consider (if its true).

Customer Support has been excellent. Somewhere in the packaging of this pedal, I got a 9V AC adapter. This monster takes a 16V AC adapter (if I remember correctly). I got a hold of Seymour Duncan. They didn't hesitate to send me 2 replacement(for my troubles I guess)16V AC adapters and let me keep the 9V one to boot. Thats what I call service.

For me this pedal is a great fit. I suspect that there will be others that may be frustrated with this pedal as it does not have precision articulation. I bought this thing to produce authentic tube tones - it does this masterfully. Obviously the down side of this pedal is that it lacks some articulation.
As I said above, I initially chose this over the Fulltone OCD. The OCD is a great pedal as well. However, if I was forced to choose between the two I would choose The Twin Tube any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
The only thing I would have changed on this pedal is to add a mid adjustment to the Global EQ.
When this pedal finally goes down for the count, I will definately be replacing it.

Exactly the same as using a tube amplifier with the exact same controls. Chicken-head knobs are great looking, but easy for a drunken sound man to step on while trying to point the SM-57 towards your speaker (the way you told him to) rather than towards the middle of your amplifier. Will not work with batteries.

I use a heavily modified '69 thinline through a Twin. As a backup I have a James Burton tele (w/ lace sensors) and/or a '99 Am. Std. Strat (w/ lace sensors) or Lindert Twister (w/ Dirty Fingers B/ Tony Iommi N) and/or Ibanez S-series. The 69 sounds best, so I use it the most, even though most of the others play better. I own a lot of pedals, and occasionally will bring along my Carbon Copy, m101, DL4, Fuzz Factory, Dynacomp, or whatever for use during solos, but the Twin Tube is the only one I can't live without.
Green channel sounds like overdriving my Twin, or like overdriving my '72 Super Reverb (which, to be fair, has a master volume). Red channel sounds like a plexi. With the treble turned forward enough, JCM800 sounds are possible as well, but I like to choose a happy medium where both channels sound good.
Extra special feature- this pedal sounds excellent no matter how crappy of an amp you plug it into. I get brilliant sounds out of my vintage silverface, modern Fender, even-more-vintage Maestro, modern hybrid Crate, or hundred-dollar Raven. If you are heading to your buddy's house and you don't trust his terrible amp, this will fit in your guitar case. Set one channel to clean and one channel to dirty and you have brought along a 50-watt 6L6 powered combo, whatever amp he has, be it bought at Radio Shack or passed down through four generations.

As mentioned, this pedal only will work with the included power supply. It is 'true bypass' but not 'hard bypass,' i.e. it will not affect your sound quality but will not allow you to play 'through' it backwards or w/o power.
The pedal is reliable.
The included power supply is not.
The reason I bring along a backup distortion pedal (I use a proco Rat II, which sounds nothing like a Twin Tube) is because in the three years I have owned this pedal, I have destroyed four power supplies. Sometimes Duncan sends you a good, thick-cabled one; sometimes they send you something someone who works at Circuit City soldered out of speaker wire. Whatever, all those ******** are unemployed now. Anyway, the power supply (special ordered through Guitar Center, including shipping) is the same price as a standard Boss power supply.
P.S. In response to previous reviewers who want to swap out the tubes, just learn to solder. I tried out a friend's Twin Tube with the tubes professionally swapped for NOS RCAs, and sure enough, it sounded better, but the tubes are two dollars from Ebay and the mod is as easy as changing your own pickups. I still haven't gotten around to doing it myself, but my only excuse is laziness.

As far as this specific product is concerned, the power supply is
not covered by the warranty.
However, if you can Seymour Duncan (the corporation) a few times, eventually Seymour Duncan (the human being) answers the phone. Seymour is an *** in the best possible sense of the word. Two sentences in, it feels like you are calling your buddy to see if he wants to drink a beer. Seymour is more of a friend than a gentleman to his customers; he appreciates fun more than he appreciates business. If you leave a message for him, he may respond with a prank phone call.

I play everything from punk to metal to country to blues. If I ever feel like my tone is less than excellent, it probably means I have plugged into a cheap amp rather than my Twin Tube. This thing sounds like the world's most flexible amp (read: Bogner, /13, or Soldano) but fits in your guitar case (though if you swap the chicken-head knobs for tele knobs like I did, it will scratch the back of your neck). Amazing pedal. I know a fair amount of other people who own one of these, and no one has anything bad to say other than:
-it should have firmer knobs
-it should have a better quality power supply (I understand that tube overdrives cannot run on batteries)
-independent EQ's per channel would be nice
-Relay bypass is for posers. Go for hard bypass, or learn to live with buffers.
All things considered, I know I would be unable to design a more versatile, more reliable overdrive/distortion. But for the price (within the same price range as a Fulldrive 2, Damage Control Womanizer, or Blackstar HtDual- the most comparable peers, all easier to break) nothing beats this pedal. If I lost it or broke something other than the power supply, I would actively seek out a replacement. Qualms nothing, this unit makes my friends jealous.

Using a Strat, Les Paul, Tele, through a Mesa Boogie Mark IIB set completely clean. Essentially turned my Boogie into a three channel amp. I really don't think the Boogie ever sounded this good! Exceptional combination used along with a Boss CE-2 Chorus from way back and an original MXR dyna comp also from the late 70's and a new MXR carbon copy. Virtually NO noise in the chain. The classic has a very warm sound and the single bass and treble controls for both rhythm and lead channel doesn't bother me in the least. I can see how it would be a benefit to have bass and treble controls for each channel but I was able to dial up the sound I was looking for.

This is the kicker. I've only had it a few days an it went out on me completely. A couple of days at home getting use to it and one night at rehearsal. The night after rehearsal back at home hooked everything back up "DEAD" nothing, nada. I guess you can imagine my disappointment. I can't imagine ever being able to use it without a backup. I hope this was a fluke. I'm returning it to the store for exchange since it hasn't even been a week.

Using a Tele into a Roland Cube 30, this thing has got SERIOUS TONE!!! It just sounds exactly like plugging into a tube amp. Am very impressed by the clean to mildly-overdriven tones. Wow! I think this is the tube solution for all solid-state amps, if you play the blues and roots type of music.
Read somewhere online that compares the "Rhythm" section to a Matchless amp - hard to believe but it's close. Of course, that depends on whether you have a decent base amp too.
The beautiful part is that you can set the "Rhythm" as a clean tone (to mask any transistor tone) and use the "Lead" for solos.

Mainly play blues and roots music. Really like this pedal because I can forget about bringing my tube amps to gigs and jams, and just bring this along, knowing that I will get really good tube amp sounds, plugging this into the backline amps. This helps when you need to pack light or are lazy.
Been playing for 5 or 6 years. Own several other tube overdrive/distortion effects. This Twin Tube Classic is one of my favourites. Also own more than 10 amps, both tube and transistor. Play through mostly Strats and Teles.
If you are looking for serious tube tone in a box, this is it.

Use this mostly with solid-state amps. Good for this purpose. Gives the ss amps a tube amp sound, including a nice tube clean sound. The rhythm channel can be set as a clean channel. So in effect, you got a 2-channel tube amp sound in a box. Useful when I feel too lazy to lug my tube amps around.
I mostly use just the rhythm channel anyway. It gets a really nice-sounding break-up tone. Really like the big and warm tones.

Mainly play blues. Own a bunch of tube amps and also a few other tube overdrive pedals. This one's a hot favourite. Put it this way, if for some reason I can play through a good tube amp, I will be quite happy to use this on a solid-state amp for my clean and overdriven tube tones.
This particular 2-channel pedal is the only tube pedal I have that can give both clean and overdriven tube tones.

i would say this is not your average distortion pedal. It really does sound like a tube amp breaking up. I personally love that but if your looking for a different distortion sound...you might try the mayhem version of this pedal. Overall i like it. My setup is: Fender Player's Deluxe Strat > rmc wizard wah > keeley java boost > keeley fuzz head > twin tube classic > fulltone fulldrive 2 > DOD FX65 stereo chorus > Line 6 dl-4 delay > Vox AC50 CP2. I suppose the things said about the strat into this pedal are somewhat true HOWEVER...i feel like a get past that problem by NOT using the lead channel! The rhythm channel is brighter sounding so i turn it on with the fulldrive for a thicker...yet not darker/bassier sound. The lead channel will kill those highs so i stay away from that. Other than the lead channel...i think its a great pedal...i have used it live and it really delivers big tone so i give it a thumbs up...but i give it a 9 because i don't like the lead channel.

Never used it...however the whole deal with tube replacement sounds like it will be a hassle if I should ever need to replace the internal tubes. I read that the pentiode? tubes last much longer than say a triode tube. I dunno for sure tho. Probably not a reason not to buy this pedal!

As i mentinoed earlier i wasn't diggin the lead channel but other than that it sound great. I play at church alot so i don't need super heavy distortion sounds...but thicker than just an overdrive pedal. Also sounds great when i kick in the fuzz head :) Uses only an adaptor NO BATTERY. If i lost it I would buy it again...might try the tonebone but i think this sounds more like a amp being driven hard. BUY IT TRY IT OUT

I use it ONLY at home with my Marshall 15 Studio. Gives me the possibility to have decent tube distortion at modest volumes. Therefore it is PERFECT. I tried many things to have an acceptable crunch/lead sound at low volume. This is by far the best result I ever had. So the 10 refers only to my home setting!!
Once I took it with me to the rehearsal room and ran it with bigger amps on high volume. I guess, it was ok for the price. However, my ENGL preamp is a different league.

This pedal is only suitable for humbucker equipped guitars, Les Pauls etc. Earlier reviewer was right about the strat tones and this pedal. The bell like sound of a strat does not come through when this pedal is on. If you want a dark strat tone, you could use this, otherwise - forget it. For strat players I highly recommend Dean Markley Overlord Classic Tube Overdrive. That's for strats IMHO.
