Ease of Use : 10
Really easy to use. Master Lo/Hi EQ for both channels. Each has a gain and drive knob. Straightforward.

I play a Gibson ES-335 into a Fender Quad Reverb with no other effects.

Sound Quality : 9
I set the Master EQ this way: Bass 9 o'clock, Treble at 2 o'clock.

"RHYTHM": Just a perfect boost channel. Really accentuates the sound of a tube amp being driven to its sweet spot. The range of gain is really good. At a low setting, it gives my tone a nice boost up. When you crank it, it really sings. This channel produces great tone, simply put.
Grade: 10

"LEAD": also very good, but not *exactly* my preferred tone. I set the master EQ to maximize the "Rhythm" channel, so the Lead channel suffers slightly, although that's mostly my personal preference. It's a little thicker/creamier than I might want, but it certainly doesn't sound bad. I'm looking for a thinner/harsher fuzz tone.
Grade: 8

Overall, I give it a 9 only because it's not exactly to my personal taste.

Reliability : 9
It feels really solid. The whole thing is metal other than the plastic chickenhead tone knobs (but those don't feel cheap by any means...just plastic.). Just a solid pedal, never any switching problems or scratchy pots or anything. No problems with the power supply either. It's really well manufactured.

The one criticism I have is that while gigging, it's easy to knock the knobs out of setting because they turn very easily (especially on the Lead channel since it's closer to the switches), but it's something I'm getting more accustomed to the more I play it. Not a huge issue...just a small imperfection barely (but) worth mentioning.

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A. Although I will find out exactly what this means when the tubes need to be replaced.

Overall Rating : 9
I play simple straightforward, slightly psychedelic rock (influenced by velvet underground/spacemen 3/rolling stones), and the Twin Tube is perfect. I've been playing for 15 years. I used to use an SG special until upgrading to a ES-335. It sounds fantastic, and as I upgraded my guitar and pickups, my overall tone (and indeed that which was effected by the pedal) really improved.

I would probably replace this pedal, but before doing so would try to find a boost pedal that competes with this. If I could do that as well as find a more personally ideal fuzz pedal, then I might go that route, but I love the way this thing sounds, so I would probably get another one.

Cranking this pedal through a cranked up tube amp is something to behold.

It's a two channel stomp box. Volume, gain, bass and treble contols. It's pretty easy to use. the manual even walks you though how to get certain sounds it don't understand how. Very easy to get a good sound out of. I use the basic rock setup explained in the manual. I set my amp for a very clean sound and use the pedal for a rythym and lead sound. I do like it better with the volume at about 9 o clock instead of 11 as suggested.

Sound Quality : 10
I bought this pedal to use with a headphone power amp so I can get real tube sounds when I play at home and without annoying the wife or neighbors. Well I don't care about the neighbors that much so mainly this is ofr when I can't play my Prosonic through it's 4x12.

It took me a couple days of playing around with this pedal beofre I could get a sound I liked but then one day it all came together for me. The key is to set the volume on the pedal so that it is the same as your on your amp with the pedal bypassed. Otherwise it will either push the amp into unwanted overdrive or it will be very muddy because of the volume drop. I set my amp up for good clean tone and i use the rhythm channel on the pedal for a pushed/break up sound and lead for well lead sounds.

This pedal really responds well to single coils and humbuckers. My strats and telecasters sound awesome on this pedal. It's instant Stones on the rhythm channel. With my Fenders I like to put the gain at 3 oclock or maxed out. It really sounds like a cranked Bassman, roll back the volume and you've have a great clean tone. I've ready other reviews that say this pedal takes the chime out of their strats. I haven't experienced it at all but with the gain maxed and I dark amp I could see how that would happen. My strats and teles are very chimey through this pedal. I really like the pushed sound I can get with this pedal. I plug my Mayer fuzz in front of it and I'm in Hendrix heaven.

Now for the Paul. My Les Paul loves this thing. I just turn the gain down a little and I'm Zepplin. It's called the twin tube classic for a reason, if you love classic rock this pedal is it.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've had this sucker for a month. So far so good. You have to replace the tubes eventually but come on it's a tube preamp. I've never heard people complain about replacing the tubes on their amp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't know I'll find in a year or two i guess.

Overall Rating : 10
I bought this pedal to rock and I love it. It's $220 but it's the best $220 I've ever spent. I went shopping for a liitle practice amp with a headphone jack. I played all the ones at GC and left disappointed. I read the reviews and bought this the next day from MF.com I figured with their return policy if it turned out to be all hype I'd just send it back. I kept it. I run it through my Digitech RP21D into a set of sony studio monitors. I like the RP but the distortion has that digital edge, this solved the problem.

I don't normally write reviews but if you're thinking of buying this pedal, do it. The price is steep but it's a tube amp in a box, try to find a decent two channel tube amp for that price. If you like rock, blues or country this is the ticket. If you like metal go buy that SD metal thingy or buy this and give metal a rest. I'm interested to see how the new blue tube sounds compared to this one.
To resume if you can't get a good tone out of this pedal give up, you're never gonna find it. Learn to play the stereo or recorder or something.

just plug in and tweak, if you got ears you find something useful-but you need some time to find it with your rig. All rigs are different so Im not even going to try to offer setting tips.

If your looking for a BTO Grand Funk bell bottom rock n fn roll sound. you can't beat this pedal. I was actually turned off to the sound. Yes, it is tube like, but more like a cranked Deluxe Reverb-I owned a 65 Black Face, the red switch was harsher. Didn't get the sustain I was looking for. I used it as a front end for recording with nominal results. But, here's what I found recently. If you want a more driving sound, plug in a ss distortion pedal in front. You will get compression sustain, harmonic bliss. Hey, you plug your distortion etc into an amp, well look at this as a tube preamp section on an amp. I have a ss amp-Fender Acoustisonic. the big one...and it sounds great through that. I can't image how good it would sound through a real amp. My Les Paul sings and sustains like it should. That real nice sweet spot sustain where you get solid sustain with harmonics glowing all over it. Thats what Im tlaking about! And it sounds good straight into my recording preamp as well. Its now a keeper as far as I am concerned. Giving it a 9 because it did require an addition pedal or tow for me to get my sound.

Reliability : 8
Bought it used and it is still going strong after 2 years. I hear the mini tubess are designed for extended life. I don't play out any more..so I don't leave it on for long periods of time like I would if I was set up on stage. It seems very strudily build though. Maybe Im just lucky I didn't have any issues with it so far.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them. Nor would I ever. I have learned over the years that it is impossible to get through to a big company so don't even try. And don't act surprised if a big company gives you the cold shoulder. The mass produce these things in China unfortunately. If I didn't get a good price on this thing used. I would have went the boutique route because 9 times out of ten you can get the guy who created the thing on the phone within a few rings -that is if you call between business hours. And my experience with many of the folks is they love to talk up their products, get feedback and generally celebrate in the mutual love of music and tone pursuit. You just ain't gonna get that from a big company. Of course this is a topic for one of the forums.

Overall Rating : 9
9. Thats is when used in conjuction with external effects. A 6 without them. But like all these reviews, its subjective. If I had a tube amp, I may have gotten better results. But if I still have my Deluxe..or something sonically close, I wouldn't have had the desire to buy this. It sounds like from other reviewers that the "classic tone" term is dropped quite a lot when describing this puppy. And if that is what you are after-70's Grand Funkin BTO Keep on Truckin rock n roll. If that's what your lookin for then party hardy.

This pedal is very easy to adjust to taste. The global EQ is very simple - 1 Treble & 1 Bass (unfortunately no mid). Has 2 settings 1)Basic OD 2)Heavy OD. Each with a volume and gain control.

The controls are reasonabley responsive on the EQ side. Very responsive on the gain/volume control. No problem or time to dial in some great tones.

Sound Quality : 9
My gear: Epi LP with Rockfield Vintage HB's, Handmade Telecaster with Dimarzio Twang Kings. Amps - Randall RG75G3 and a Crate V-30 with 212 Tone Tubby Half Cab. Numerous assorted effects.

This pedal is great. It can be muddy with the Bass up and on the Neck pickup alone (however on my LP I have PAF replicas that will affect this). It has loads of power and the tube sound is rich and full. It definately has a vintage flavour to it. I've had this pedal for almost 2 years now. When I was first checking this and other pedals out, I was directed to the Fulltone OCD as being a superior pedal. At that time I didn't have a fully tube driven amp so I went the way of the Twin Tube.

Since then I've added a Fulltone OCD to my chain as well. If you are looking for more original tube sound and power definately invest in the Twin Tube. It has a more natural growl and warmth that the OCD just doesn't have. On the other hand, The OCD is much more articulate.

I seldom use the higher gain side. I find that it is just too much of a good thing.

Like most overdrives, especially ones that are tube powered, there is some noise. On the lower setting, the noise is barely audible, but still present. On the high gain setting it can become irritating.

I find this pedal great for achieving ACDC Angus Young tones. I did not buy this pedal for playing metal. In the area of Metal this is not the right effect - It is an OD not a distortion.

Reliability : 8
As I said above, I've had this pedal for about 2 years now and have never had any reliability issues with the pedal. Good thing, I've heard (not confirmed) that the replacement tubes for this thing are difficult to come by. Just something to consider (if its true).

Customer Support : 10
Customer Support has been excellent. Somewhere in the packaging of this pedal, I got a 9V AC adapter. This monster takes a 16V AC adapter (if I remember correctly). I got a hold of Seymour Duncan. They didn't hesitate to send me 2 replacement(for my troubles I guess)16V AC adapters and let me keep the 9V one to boot. Thats what I call service.

Overall Rating : 10
For me this pedal is a great fit. I suspect that there will be others that may be frustrated with this pedal as it does not have precision articulation. I bought this thing to produce authentic tube tones - it does this masterfully. Obviously the down side of this pedal is that it lacks some articulation.

As I said above, I initially chose this over the Fulltone OCD. The OCD is a great pedal as well. However, if I was forced to choose between the two I would choose The Twin Tube any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

The only thing I would have changed on this pedal is to add a mid adjustment to the Global EQ.

When this pedal finally goes down for the count, I will definately be replacing it.

Exactly the same as using a tube amplifier with the exact same controls. Chicken-head knobs are great looking, but easy for a drunken sound man to step on while trying to point the SM-57 towards your speaker (the way you told him to) rather than towards the middle of your amplifier. Will not work with batteries.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a heavily modified '69 thinline through a Twin. As a backup I have a James Burton tele (w/ lace sensors) and/or a '99 Am. Std. Strat (w/ lace sensors) or Lindert Twister (w/ Dirty Fingers B/ Tony Iommi N) and/or Ibanez S-series. The 69 sounds best, so I use it the most, even though most of the others play better. I own a lot of pedals, and occasionally will bring along my Carbon Copy, m101, DL4, Fuzz Factory, Dynacomp, or whatever for use during solos, but the Twin Tube is the only one I can't live without.

Green channel sounds like overdriving my Twin, or like overdriving my '72 Super Reverb (which, to be fair, has a master volume). Red channel sounds like a plexi. With the treble turned forward enough, JCM800 sounds are possible as well, but I like to choose a happy medium where both channels sound good.

Extra special feature- this pedal sounds excellent no matter how crappy of an amp you plug it into. I get brilliant sounds out of my vintage silverface, modern Fender, even-more-vintage Maestro, modern hybrid Crate, or hundred-dollar Raven. If you are heading to your buddy's house and you don't trust his terrible amp, this will fit in your guitar case. Set one channel to clean and one channel to dirty and you have brought along a 50-watt 6L6 powered combo, whatever amp he has, be it bought at Radio Shack or passed down through four generations.

Reliability : 5
As mentioned, this pedal only will work with the included power supply. It is 'true bypass' but not 'hard bypass,' i.e. it will not affect your sound quality but will not allow you to play 'through' it backwards or w/o power.

The pedal is reliable.

The included power supply is not.

The reason I bring along a backup distortion pedal (I use a proco Rat II, which sounds nothing like a Twin Tube) is because in the three years I have owned this pedal, I have destroyed four power supplies. Sometimes Duncan sends you a good, thick-cabled one; sometimes they send you something someone who works at Circuit City soldered out of speaker wire. Whatever, all those ******** are unemployed now. Anyway, the power supply (special ordered through Guitar Center, including shipping) is the same price as a standard Boss power supply.

P.S. In response to previous reviewers who want to swap out the tubes, just learn to solder. I tried out a friend's Twin Tube with the tubes professionally swapped for NOS RCAs, and sure enough, it sounded better, but the tubes are two dollars from Ebay and the mod is as easy as changing your own pickups. I still haven't gotten around to doing it myself, but my only excuse is laziness.

Customer Support : 9
As far as this specific product is concerned, the power supply is
not covered by the warranty.

However, if you can Seymour Duncan (the corporation) a few times, eventually Seymour Duncan (the human being) answers the phone. Seymour is an *** in the best possible sense of the word. Two sentences in, it feels like you are calling your buddy to see if he wants to drink a beer. Seymour is more of a friend than a gentleman to his customers; he appreciates fun more than he appreciates business. If you leave a message for him, he may respond with a prank phone call.

Overall Rating : 10
I play everything from punk to metal to country to blues. If I ever feel like my tone is less than excellent, it probably means I have plugged into a cheap amp rather than my Twin Tube. This thing sounds like the world's most flexible amp (read: Bogner, /13, or Soldano) but fits in your guitar case (though if you swap the chicken-head knobs for tele knobs like I did, it will scratch the back of your neck). Amazing pedal. I know a fair amount of other people who own one of these, and no one has anything bad to say other than:
-it should have firmer knobs
-it should have a better quality power supply (I understand that tube overdrives cannot run on batteries)
-independent EQ's per channel would be nice
-Relay bypass is for posers. Go for hard bypass, or learn to live with buffers.

All things considered, I know I would be unable to design a more versatile, more reliable overdrive/distortion. But for the price (within the same price range as a Fulldrive 2, Damage Control Womanizer, or Blackstar HtDual- the most comparable peers, all easier to break) nothing beats this pedal. If I lost it or broke something other than the power supply, I would actively seek out a replacement. Qualms nothing, this unit makes my friends jealous.

It Couldn't get any easier to use. The controls are self explanatory

Sound Quality : 10
Using a Strat, Les Paul, Tele, through a Mesa Boogie Mark IIB set completely clean. Essentially turned my Boogie into a three channel amp. I really don't think the Boogie ever sounded this good! Exceptional combination used along with a Boss CE-2 Chorus from way back and an original MXR dyna comp also from the late 70's and a new MXR carbon copy. Virtually NO noise in the chain. The classic has a very warm sound and the single bass and treble controls for both rhythm and lead channel doesn't bother me in the least. I can see how it would be a benefit to have bass and treble controls for each channel but I was able to dial up the sound I was looking for.

Reliability : 1
This is the kicker. I've only had it a few days an it went out on me completely. A couple of days at home getting use to it and one night at rehearsal. The night after rehearsal back at home hooked everything back up "DEAD" nothing, nada. I guess you can imagine my disappointment. I can't imagine ever being able to use it without a backup. I hope this was a fluke. I'm returning it to the store for exchange since it hasn't even been a week.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I'm going to deal with the store first since it's only less than a week old.

Using a Tele into a Roland Cube 30, this thing has got SERIOUS TONE!!! It just sounds exactly like plugging into a tube amp. Am very impressed by the clean to mildly-overdriven tones. Wow! I think this is the tube solution for all solid-state amps, if you play the blues and roots type of music.

Read somewhere online that compares the "Rhythm" section to a Matchless amp - hard to believe but it's close. Of course, that depends on whether you have a decent base amp too.

The beautiful part is that you can set the "Rhythm" as a clean tone (to mask any transistor tone) and use the "Lead" for solos.

Mainly play blues and roots music. Really like this pedal because I can forget about bringing my tube amps to gigs and jams, and just bring this along, knowing that I will get really good tube amp sounds, plugging this into the backline amps. This helps when you need to pack light or are lazy.

Been playing for 5 or 6 years. Own several other tube overdrive/distortion effects. This Twin Tube Classic is one of my favourites. Also own more than 10 amps, both tube and transistor. Play through mostly Strats and Teles.

If you are looking for serious tube tone in a box, this is it.

Very easy to get a good sound right off the bat. Simple controls.

Didn't even read the manual.

Sound Quality : 9
Use this mostly with solid-state amps. Good for this purpose. Gives the ss amps a tube amp sound, including a nice tube clean sound. The rhythm channel can be set as a clean channel. So in effect, you got a 2-channel tube amp sound in a box. Useful when I feel too lazy to lug my tube amps around.

I mostly use just the rhythm channel anyway. It gets a really nice-sounding break-up tone. Really like the big and warm tones.

Reliability : 8

Mainly play blues. Own a bunch of tube amps and also a few other tube overdrive pedals. This one's a hot favourite. Put it this way, if for some reason I can play through a good tube amp, I will be quite happy to use this on a solid-state amp for my clean and overdriven tube tones.

This particular 2-channel pedal is the only tube pedal I have that can give both clean and overdriven tube tones.

i would say this is not your average distortion pedal. It really does sound like a tube amp breaking up. I personally love that but if your looking for a different distortion sound...you might try the mayhem version of this pedal. Overall i like it. My setup is: Fender Player's Deluxe Strat > rmc wizard wah > keeley java boost > keeley fuzz head > twin tube classic > fulltone fulldrive 2 > DOD FX65 stereo chorus > Line 6 dl-4 delay > Vox AC50 CP2. I suppose the things said about the strat into this pedal are somewhat true HOWEVER...i feel like a get past that problem by NOT using the lead channel! The rhythm channel is brighter sounding so i turn it on with the fulldrive for a thicker...yet not darker/bassier sound. The lead channel will kill those highs so i stay away from that. Other than the lead channel...i think its a great pedal...i have used it live and it really delivers big tone so i give it a thumbs up...but i give it a 9 because i don't like the lead channel.

Reliability : 10
I would gig without a backup...havent had any problems and ive had it for several months now.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never used it...however the whole deal with tube replacement sounds like it will be a hassle if I should ever need to replace the internal tubes. I read that the pentiode? tubes last much longer than say a triode tube. I dunno for sure tho. Probably not a reason not to buy this pedal!

Overall Rating : 9
As i mentinoed earlier i wasn't diggin the lead channel but other than that it sound great. I play at church alot so i don't need super heavy distortion sounds...but thicker than just an overdrive pedal. Also sounds great when i kick in the fuzz head :) Uses only an adaptor NO BATTERY. If i lost it I would buy it again...might try the tonebone but i think this sounds more like a amp being driven hard. BUY IT TRY IT OUT

Sound Quality : 10
I use it ONLY at home with my Marshall 15 Studio. Gives me the possibility to have decent tube distortion at modest volumes. Therefore it is PERFECT. I tried many things to have an acceptable crunch/lead sound at low volume. This is by far the best result I ever had. So the 10 refers only to my home setting!!

Once I took it with me to the rehearsal room and ran it with bigger amps on high volume. I guess, it was ok for the price. However, my ENGL preamp is a different league.

This pedal is only suitable for humbucker equipped guitars, Les Pauls etc. Earlier reviewer was right about the strat tones and this pedal. The bell like sound of a strat does not come through when this pedal is on. If you want a dark strat tone, you could use this, otherwise - forget it. For strat players I highly recommend Dean Markley Overlord Classic Tube Overdrive. That's for strats IMHO.

Only one problem. They didn't design it right. The tubes are not changeable without sending it to Seymour Duncan. also the tube specs state that they will only last up to 1000 hours and if you play as much as I do that means every 1 to 1 1/2 years you will have to send it to get new tubes. Who knows how long and how much that will cost? Just something to think about.

wow... it's definitely a 10 for someone who's lokking for classic sounds. Very "tuby".

This is, why I'm writig the review: it??s perfect in front of a digital modeler. I use it with a AX3000G for recordings. The TT adds tube sound... as long as you choose clean settings on the AX. The big advantage is, that you are able to use the volume-pot on your guitar again, means: turn down cleans up the tone... brilliant, a vox model remains a vox, a fender a fender etc. So try it: choose a blackface model and let the TT do the rest - you will be satisfied!

Only disadvantage is a "plop" when you change the channels on th TT, especially whenn using delay / reverb on the AX... means: plop, plop, plop... ;-)

I can live with it.

So for me, sound rating is 10! ...and damn think about the price you have to pay for it... almost boutique tone for 200 Euro

Reliability : No Opinion
can't tell you, it's new. I guess, if it stands the first 3 weeks without an error... it will live forever. It??s electronics... and it??s made in china...

I play now for 30 years... not good because I'm one of the business guys, having no time for other hobbies. So, I'm a kind of "tone-hunter", having fun with the fine noises, you can get out of nice equipment. Crazy... but I think it's a problem of all this 45-plus players not beeing pros... The industry survives only we are here and buying the products. I play mainly strats (wow, you really can spend BIG money on that...) with tube amps, (actually a small Engl) have plenty of guitars in the house and buy from time to time nice gadgets, like this pedal.

Again: you can produce a very, very nice range of sounds from clean to distorted with this pedal. It gives you the advantage to use it as a preamp or an overdrive-pedal or you can use it as a booster... very versatile. Sound quality is boutique-level, depending on the following components.

Excellent buy!

I easily agree with the most favorable & in depth opinions & reviews of this pedal, with the exception of one very big issue. The different voicing on each channel, while is very nice in every way except they "EQ out" the clearest bell tone frequency realm Strats are so noted for. This sux big time, but other than this issue, the pedal is just awesome. I'm hoping it will be refined in future productions to fix my only issue with it, but I'm only giving it a 4 out of an otherwise 10 because of it.

Pretty easy to get a good sound, seeing as it sounds good no matter what settings you use (providing you use a decent amp and guitar). Global bass and treble controls, two channels with independent volume and gain for each. No need for it, but the manual is great too. And whoever wrote it had a sense of humour... "And for Heaven sakes, don't use it while you're sitting on the can..." ...I wasn't planning on it, but thanks for letting me know...

A lot of people complain about the global EQ... I haven't had a problem with it... The two channels are voiced differently, so you can tell them apart anyway, even with the same amount of dirt on both

Playing a Clapton Strat (with lace sensors) and an Epiphone Les Paul with Seymour-Duncan hotrodded jazz set of pickups through the Twin Tube Classic and into a Vox AD30VT amp... Amp modelling program was set on the blackface (Fender Twin Reverb???), set really clean. Also used a Tube Screamer (TS9DX) pushing the rhythm channel into overdrive and liked the result.

The tone of this thing is ...unbelievable. Kinda like a mix of a Bassman and a Plexi, but not really reminiscent of those tones enough to say it's modelled on those amps. It has it's own sound. The distortion is thick and creamy, but even at high levels of gain, it's still smooth. Not much razor-edge, buzz-saw sounds, so metal players might want to look elsewhere (Twin Tube Mayhem might be a better choice). It is a little bottom-heavy, but I'm mainly using my Clapton Strat with single-coils, so I don't care...

The rhythm channel goes from clean to moderate overdrive. The lead channel picks up where the rhythm channel left off and heads into supersaturated territory. I set the rhythm channel on a light overdrive, controlling the amount of distortion by picking dynamics and guitar volume. For those of you that don't know, the Clapton Strat has a 25dB midrange boost on the 2nd tone control... I use this to puch the cleans on the rhythm channel into distortion. Then the lead channel is another story... Super dirty... It has a bit more midrange to my ears, which is good for cutting through the mix a bit more when the time comes for a guitar solo (it's called the "lead" channel for a reason!).

I wasn't really trying to get a certain sound that I'd heard somewhere else, I was looking for my sound. And I got it!

Reliability : 9
The thing's a tank. Would gig without a backup of the actual PEDAL, but I'd probably get another wall wart... Just in case. Don't trust them, and a lot of people complain about that... But then again, it is actually an amp in a pedal, so you'd expect to plug in to power somewhere... Maybe just not with the wall wart... Oh well, the tone is worth it!

People also complain about having to send the thing back to Seymour-Duncan to replace tubes... What they seem to be happy to forget is the fact that the tubes are designed to last the life of the pedal.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never actually delt with Seymour-Duncan, so I can't say

Overall Rating : 10
Play blues, jazz, rock, heavy rock... Everything except punk and metal. Suits these styles fine (not sure about jazz, don't really need distortion for that...). Playing for ...a while now and have a Clapton Strat, Epiphone Les Paul, Ibanez Tube Screaer and Vox AD50VT (like I said before). This pedal blows the Tube Screamer out of the water... It's just a great-sounding tube pedal, and inspiring to play through. Very happy with it.

Easy to use, yes. Versatile, great tones, and intuitive to use. Biggest concern is setting unity gain with unit off and being able to control the volume boost in high gain mode. Also, AM I THE ONLY PERSON OUT THERE WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHY MANUFACTURERS USE SWITCHES THAT MAKE LOUD CLICKS WHEN YOU STEP ON THEM? That was the deal killer for me. It's not an issue in a live setting but if you use this pedal while recording the click will turn up on your recording.

Sound Quality : 10
The Twin Tube has awesome tone. It can be clean (when the pedal's off), a boost, and an overdrive/distortion pedal. It has quite a range of tone and od/dist levels via the gain. I loved the tones just hated how loud the switches were.

Didn't keep it long enough to find out.

Overall Rating : 10
I think the Twin Tube is a versatile and usable pedal for most players. Personally, I used it to boost and drive my Takamine Acoustic-Electrics and loved the tones and versatility. I hated the LOUD switches. Tonewise, it blows away Boss pedals, is comparable to the Pigtonix Disnortion (although that also has a fuzz circuit), the Hughes & Kettner od/dist pedal, and Damage Control Liquid Blues pedal. It's beter than the Electro-Harmonix od/dist pedals (and they use the same stupid LOUD switches as well). I'm waiting to get an Emma Reezafratzitz but have heard that's among the best. If you don't care about LOUD switches, try out the Twin Tube. You do get the benefit of actual tubes in the circuit.

Reasonable sound, not my cup of tea. It is low noise. I've heard better pedals without tubes in them. There are videos on YouTube which give you a good idea of the sound. Which doesn't impress me. It is a decent shred pedal. It is true bypass via relays, and doesn't click when you switch it in and out.

Reliability : 2
The Chinese toroidal transformer shorted internally, taking the wall wart with it. I bought mine used, I don't live in the USA, Seymour Duncan won't send me a schematic. I kluged a transformer and got it working again.

I really liked it in the store, at higher volumes it still sounded real good, but I didn't like it quite as much.

Here is the problem. I bought one a few weeks before a show. It died on me during a show, and it didn't just quit turning on, it cut out sound entirely bypased or not. That's not good. But I really liked how it sounded so I took it back to GC and they gave me a new one. Been using the new one for a couple months and during my last practice it started cutting out, and I had to remove it from my pedal board. Needless to say it wont be going back on... It's too bad, I like the effect a lot, and I love seymour duncan as a company, but I can't have something unreliable in a live situation.

This is extremely easy to use. You dial up the sounds you want, and voila, it rocks.

This turns any clean channel on an amp into a powerhouse of three channels, all of which sound good (that is assuming your amp is decent in the first place)

The manual is basic. There's no need for a complicated manual, you have overall tone controls, which work well, along with volume and gain controls for each channel.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound quality is awesome. The rhythm channel is supersonically sweet. This has a nice low range to it (subject to using the tone controls). It fattens up my guitar sound perfectly. It seems to round it out into a more musical tone, on all pickups. My pickups are two Kinman 62s in neck/middle, and a Seymour JB humbucker in the bridge.

The lead channel is a heavy duty overdrive, good for most lead sounds. I've heard it described as 'buttery' - that seems to fit. It is round and smooth, and sweet sounding. Both channels are affected by the single tone control. This has annoyed me on amps in the past but is works really well on this pedal.

It is also very quiet in operation. One thing I have noticed is that it seems to make the reverb on my amp sound a bit sweeter- I have also had to turn the reverb down a bit, and it sounds great. I think this might just be that the tone hitting the amp is a bit fuller.

Here is the other BIG benefit of this pedal (apart from the sound).

Most compact time based pedals (delay/chorus/modulation) sound great in an effects loop. Most amp effects loops don't cater for standard pedal based signals, and it can be problematic using them in an effects loop. Also, running pedals like reverb or delay into a distorted amp can sound awful.

The Twin Tube Classic gives awesome tone, and is designed to go into the front end of an amp. This means that you can put your delay, and chorus/flange etc after the TTC and before the amp, with complete sonic compatibility. Running these effects between the TTC and a clean amp gives great results.

You can, of course keep things like fuzz/compressors/tubescreamers and wah in front of the TTC.

The TTC also really responds to picking strength and guitar volume settings with great dynamic punch and subtlety.

I give this a 10 as it has solved my effects routing problems, and left me happy. - but....

Reliability : No Opinion
I have had to send this back to the supplier - it lasted a couple of days, and went fizzy and died.

This is going back to Imuso.co.uk today, and I should have a replacement in a couple of days.

I'm willing to assume that this is a one-off faulty product. There are not too many bad reviews for reliability here, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

This was made in China, where I assume their manufacturing and quality control is as good as anywhere. I'd trust Seymour Duncan to get this right, so I'll stick with my assumption at the moment.

I'm not putting a low rating for this for this reason.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had any dealings with them. I've had a JB humbucker in my guitar for possibly 10 years now, and I assume it will still be rocking long after I'm dead.

Overall Rating : 8
I'll give this an 8 overall for all the good reasons I've listed.

This is an awesome pedal. I run the guitar into a Crybaby wah (completely gutted and rebuilt/modified by me) >> Ross compressor clone (I made this as well) >> Tubescreamer clone (Mine as well) >> Twin Tube Classic >> Line 6 Echo park (I couldn't make a delay that will do this) >> Boss CE-2 Chorus Clone (Yeah, I made it) >> MXR Phase 90 clone (Mine too) >> Tech21 Trademark 60 amp mostly on the clean/Fender channel now.

I've been playing more than 20 years and never had such a great tone as now with this pedal. The rhythm channel is worth the admission price with this one, the lead channel is an added bonus.

Could not be easier. Two channels, two footswitches. Attention, modellers addicts : you will have to practice the lost art of getting a sound without 24 amp models and 120 presets to go through. Within a half hour, you should have found the two sounds that you will add to your armoury. The dilemena is this : do you keep the rythme channel for a juicy tube clean sound, ou do you use its crunch potential ?

Sound Quality : 7
I use it with an Epiphone Les Paul with coil-splittable Di Marzios, an Ovation Deacon, and several other electrics. The sound is rich, very much 70s rock, but not Marshall like. I chose this over the H & K Tubeman, that I found harsh. It's sensitive to volume control manipulation, and splitting the humbuckers changes the sound like it should. Noise is really low.

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't know. Did not take it to the gig yet.

It works, so no opinion.

I play mostly classic rock and hard rock (Led Zep, UFO, Sabbath) but also some Yes and poppier stuff. I like my clean sound warm and my distorsion fuzzy, with a humming low end, but with distinct pick attack. I have been playing for 15 years now, and have owned a dozen guitars and 3 amps. I think the sound is excellent, unless you like piercing treble ou scooped mids, that will not be available here. Better than a distorsion pedal, cheaper than a boutique preamp, truer than a modelling gizmo.

This pedal really is amazingly easy to use. It has good sounds all over but as it said in another of these reviews the tone knobs could use more breadth. They've made it so it can't sound bad but at the same time limited what it can sound like.

Sound Quality : 10
Sound is awesome. I read somewhere that you can use this to make your solid state sound like a tube amp.... it doesn't. Sounds better than any solid state ever could but plug this into a tube amp and the overall sound is magnificent. I play with a strat and a white falcon into a mesa subway blues and it is the closest thing to heaven on earth.
I tried this with friend's guitar that had p90s in it and it was really noisy. I think maybe the frequencies out of the pickups just didn't gel? But with either of the other two no complaints in the slightest with the sound.

Reliability : 9
Seems reliable, I think these tubes seem really good. As a pedal it's going to get kicked more than an amp so the fact the tubes are resistant to vibration (ie I accidentally dropped this while it was on. Hard)But don't like that you have to send it back when the tubes eventually need replacing.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play all sorts of things and between the pedal and setting the amp up even a little dirty, the twin tube can sound like anything. It responds like a tube amp and I think that while amps can come and go this pedal will stay a consistent part of my rig. To say what's already been said a power switch would have been great but the pedal makes up for it in everything else. I've tried lots of transistor OD and distortion pedals but they've all sounded fake or just used them as a bit of a signal boost but this pedal is something beautiful and definitely worth getting. I'd get another if this were lost or stolen without a second thought. Have also used it to warm up mic'ed acoustic guitar, with the gain low sounds really nice, though with volume too much becomes a bit midrangey. Try one before any other OD/Distotion pedal.

Very basic, you have the same controls you would find on your amp.
Bass,Treble, and two channels with gain and volume control. The only thing thats missing is a Mid control. So it's very easy to get a great sound from it.

Sound Quality : 10
This has got to be one of the best distortion pedals around. It really just sounds like I added two great channels to my amp. I use it with my peavey penta half stack, and ultra tube. It sounds great through both. It's very warm, and is not really a heavey metal kind of distortion. Great for me since I play blues and classic rock. The first channel sounds like a marshall plexi turned up half way. The second channel sounds like you turned it up all the way. I use my EJ strat more than anything, and it really thickens up those single coil pickups. My les paul and firebird sound great with it too. It's almost just an extension of my amp, cause it doesn't color your amp too much. It warms it up and sustains for days.

Reliability : 10
It seems to be very well built. I've been using it for a few months now and have had no problems with it. And I use it every other day.
The only problems that I could think of happening is if something goes wrong with your wall wart your not gonna be able to use it.
Other than that it's built like a tank.

Never have dealt with seymour duncun, I own one of their pickups and it still works. I'm sure they have good reputation and want to keep it.

I have been playing for over 8 years now. I play blues and classic rock, and this is a great match for me. If it were stolen I would definetly get another one. I use my vox wah, and sometimes plug in my friends old boss flanger. They both sound great with this pedal.
I love the fact that it is very basic and easy to get a great sound from it. I looked into getting the tonebone, damage control, and vox, but this just seemed to be the best deal. If your looking for a pedal with great tube overdrive, you should look into the twin tube.

Actually is too easy to set up a good blues tone. The independent volume and gain controls for each channel gives a lot of flexibility. Anyway, as I am here not to make publicity, I see the following improvements points for the use of the Twin Tube :
- Include a mid control: The frequency range between 200Hz and 2Khz has no control, so you have to make mid correction with the amp mid.
- Include an ON /OFF key: Always when you need a brake you have to plug the SFX03 off from the wall, otherwise he will keep its working temperature (that is high!!) and therefore "burning" its useful life also under Bypass condition.

Sound Quality : 10
Here is all about expectations. I am a blues guitar player using a Gibson Lespaul Standard 59' with a Mesa Boogie Express and I just love the tone from this combination. My target by choosing an effect pedal was to add more flexibility with light distortion without loose my original tone... and the SFX03 gives exactly this. The first channel works as a boost keeping the amp warm and the second channel add the blues distortion. Before I got this preamp I did some research and comparison with other great pedals (BluesDriver, Bluesbreaker, Tubescreamer, Big Ben) and all those work very well but the problem is that they do not preserve the orignal tone. If you do not have a great tube amp or if you want to get only a "standardized" tone then maybe one of those can satisfy you.

Reliability : No Opinion
My preamp is quite new so it is hard to talk about reliability. I have learned a lot about the 6021 tubes and , talking as an electrical engineer, I confirm that the useful life expected for those tubes is quite higher than a standard 12AX7. However I still have concerns because the tube garantee from Seymour Duncan is only 90 days.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No support was needed up to now.

Overall Rating : 9
As I said before, it is all about expectations. For a blues or a classic rock tone I do not see competition for the Twin Tube (maybe the V-twin from MESA if they decide to produce it again..).
If you are a "Seek and Destroy" kind of player I would recommend you to go to the transistored pedals.
Personally, I believe a great tone is defined by the guitar and by the amp. So I suggest you to search your musical identity (and spend your money) with the right guitar+amp combination. Only after find this identity than I totally recommend you to try the Twin tube ...

Its very easy to get a good sound from it, controls knobs shows in a logical format for the musician and being true there isnt any need of manual hints.

Sound Quality : 10
Its produce a variety of sounds, with the clear channel you can just "help" the signal of your low output pickup or you can get a mild distortion ... it produces those "british" sounds.

With the hi-gain channel you get a great amount of saturation / sustain but (incredible to say) without to loose too much "attack".
The distorted sound produced anyway is completely different from the one you can get on a 12AX7 based amplifier (Fender) its a sort of warm but hi-tech distortion ... I would say a '80 sound ... or an Allan Holdsworth like timbre.

Just for this is very nice when coupled with a Fender amp , since you can get a great variety of combinations.

I have to say (agains other reviews) that this unit its not noisy at all !!! I'am very satisfied ...and I'am using it in Italy coming from
a 230V 50Hz main voltage. I scale down with a transformer from 230V to 120V using a transformer. Clarely the frequency remains 50Hz since the unit is supplied in alternate current (16V AC)

I'am using it with a Fender "the Twin" (red knobs) amp upgraded with Electro Harmonix tubes.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've had it for just one month ... it looks solid and I had no problem until now.

For sure I would use in a GIG.

Its weight lets you think it isnt "empty at all inside" ..

Customer Support : No Opinion
I had no occasions to deal with the company

Overall Rating : 10
I play prog-rock music its clean channel is a good match for this genre, the distorted channel is useful instead in two cases:
- When I want to get an hi-tech sound for other misical genres.
- When I jam out of my studio and I want a warm and reliable distortion with no troubles of presence etc..
I've been playing for 25 years and I own lots of gear including 13 instruments Guitars / Bass / steel guitars (Gibson, Martin, Epiphones, Rickenbacker etc..)
If they will stole it to me ..I'll buy another one.
I love its versatility and quality , the low noise .. everything.
I liked if it had the ON/OFF switch
I choosed this one over a Electro Harmonix Black Finger to lift up my guitar signal ... I choosed this one because more versatle and also because I read very good reviews of this. Also, I thought that being one of the Seymour Duncan top gear it couldnt be a dull object.

Very simple to use. One set of treble and bass master controls, Volume and gain on rhythm and boost.

Sound Quality : 8
I've had the twin tube for two weeks, here's my thoughts so far... the pedal has an excellent overall sound. The sustain is very sweet sounding at higher gain levels and feeds back well with humbuckers. So far i'm using it with a clapton strat and 57 goldtop. I ran the pedal in front of a blues jr. and threw on a couple of cd,s.. I was able to nail the "Venus Isle" lead tones of Eric johnson and "One more car/driver" tones of Clapton pretty easily. The twin tube will pretty much cover all of the Blues/Classic rock/Country tones territory. The controls are sensitive and interact well. I really wasn't able to get a bad sound regardless of where I set them. The jump from channel 1 to channel 2 is not a drastic volume or tonal change, like a tube factor, so the rhythm to lead switch is smoother. It;s also fairly quiet, quieter than both my soldano supercharger gto and tone bone classic...to my ears it also has a truer tone. The only negative I would note is it may be a little flabby on the low end to some. If you dig an overheated, saggy ,tweed sound like I do, the low end is fine. Don't buy it if you're a Metal guy, it doesn't do the scooped mid sound or Rectifier/Randall buzz saw. To my ears it slightly favors humbuckers. If your'e looking for an " all in one" gigging tube pedal that will cover most of the tones you'd want, try it out.. I highly recommend the pedal to fender tube amp lovers because you can set a great clean sound with the amp, a dirty rythym tone on channel 1, and a nice grind on channel two.. switching from single coils to humbucking guitars and working the volume knobs will cover almost anything from jazz to hard rock. very good pedal, However, I'm tired of reading 10,s on every review... so i'll give it an ...........

I've spent way too much money-but you don't have to! The Twin Tube makes all non tube pedals sound like,Well, pedals! This thing is really an amp in a box. If you want to NAIL the punch and dynamics of bands like AC/DC, Trower, Zep the twin tube will do it 100%. Some people have claimed that this pedal sounds muddy! It is not muddy if you turn the eq knobs.-Here's a good setting for starters that is not muddy-set the bass knob at 10 oclock and the treble at 3 oclock. It's amazing the sounds you can get out of pedals if you just turn the knobs! Spend $209.00 on this thing and don't look back! There is a reason this pedal is getting such high ratings-TONE!!! This is extremely simple to use, probably the simplest pedal you will ever own.

Sound Quality : 10
Natural tube sounds. Note that it doesn't emulate or model any particular amp and it has it's own sound. Probably not a great pedal for heavy metal, but it is great for blues and "classic rock". Some people have complained that it sounds muddy... My opinion after having it a few days is that it IS a little bottom heavy, especially if you keep the tone controls at equal settings. However, if you boost the treble a bit it evens out nicely. I would say the distortion tones are better than on my Tonelab as well as any non-tube pedal that I've ever owned or tried (yes, I've played a lot). Hvr, I have not had the chance to compare it to the Damage Control tube pedals, which seem like they might be cool as well.

Very easy to use. Even at extreme settings it sounds usable. No experimental sounds here. Plug it in and your instrument, set the levels and you're good to go.

I'm not interested in sounding like my favorite artists. Having said that I did have a couple of hours fooling around with early Zepplin sounds and a few Beatles riffs came to mind. This is a soft sounding overdrive. If you're into the tight bottom "Rectum-fried" sound look elsewhere. No fizzy spitting sounds either. This overdrive has more detail in the harmonics than I expected. Especially noticeable with darker tones where I find most overdrive pedals and some amps sound flat. This retains the pulpy nature and harmonic content. Absolutely beautiful for smokey jazz. It's easy to get all the other overdrive/distortion types sounds but the sound that this pedal does is very difficult to find. Soft/smooth/warm/musical/harmonic. There are a couple of selling points for me here. Two overdrives that work very well together. One will melt into the other when switching from rhythm to lead and back. Even from clean to rhythm. The ability to switch between these settings without feeling like you changed amps is brilliant. I've had not pedals do this so well. This trait is coveted in amps and it's still rare there too. They chose a great colour for the pedal not because I dig the burnished copper but if you relate sound and light together I find the pedal colour is representive of it's sound. A sparkling brown sound, pulpy textured, smooth, aged, mature sounding overdrive. I've run this into a class A EL84 amp, 6V6 tone machine and KT66 powered amp. All with the same degree of sucess. All my amps retain their signature sound and the Twin Tube just lets me have more drive. Just Beautiful. With this pedal I can understand where the Robben Fords and Larry Carltons get their inspiration. Reviews are a funny thing as it's very hard to quantify the opinions of others without hearing what they sound like. I'm interested in my voice on the instrument. I go out of my way to find it. So many pedal/amps/guitars sound like signature sounds of others that it's a nice surprise to find something that is familiar without pigeonholing your tone. This pedal is smooth enough to run the lead channel in a low lite jazz restuarant without getting strange looks and has enough presence to cut through a horn section in a Vegas style dance band. It's gentlemanly and well behaved. I use other pedals to cop the snotty sounds of youth but this is a refined effort. It's very open sounding so endless sustain has to come with the volume of the amp not the compression of the pedal. There's very little fatigue factor even with the lead channel and it sits well in a mix when recording. Because of it's pulpy nature it allows competing frequencies to be heard. It's versitility in the arena that it is intended is great. From dark and smooth to bright and effervescent and all shades inbetween. Much more versitile than the so called all-in-one pedals which I find shadow the many flavours of overdrive/distortion but miss all the subtlty and musicality. This is not a "Jack-of-all-Trades" but rather a master of one. My main amp is a JUKE 1210 running KT66's. (Check these amps out...not your average but in this world of "GAS" and tone fashion I still can't get enough of the JUKE's voice) I give it a 10 for sound quality only because I have spent thousands on pedals (and amps for that matter) trying to find this quality of tone that is usable at most volumes. A better pedal??? It's completely possible. Pedals I've owned and no longer have Pete Cornish, Budda, Matchless, Bad Cat, Providence, Sigmund, SIB, Blackstone, Chandler Tubedriver, Hughes & Kettner and I've tried everything that is available to me in the Pacific Northwest. The Twin Tube doesn't make my JUKE sounds smaller when engaged and doesn't destroy it's beautiful voice. It was instant gratification and over the last month in several live situations and even last night playing until midnight in my studio it makes me smile. That gets my 10.

I'll have to wait and see. It seems solid in a metal case. The tubes are technition servicable. Switches are the new contact type that work like a computer keyboard or cell phone. I've had one go in my ToneLab SE. It's cheap to repair but a hassle. Wall wart is not my favorite and will die if I don't hard mount the pedal onto a board. I understand why Seymour chose to use a wallwart but I still don't like them. Knobs are solid. I accidentally stood full weight on the face of the pedal without any noticible damage. Knobs are smooth and well laid out. Switches seems solid and the external body is solid too. Jack are not floating on the PC board but are secured to the body. Power jack is tight in the access hole in the housing and there is no wiggle. When mounted in a pedal board I suspect that it will almost as long as the two tubes inside. With the steps to reduce weight and costs Seymour chose the right areas change. The pedal could be stronger and with better power supply but it would be more expensive and a lot heavier. The Bad Cat Two Tone is 9lbs. YIKES!

I play many many styles of music. I study Jazz for the language and use tonefonts and stylistic ism's for what ever style is needed. As a studio musician I have to be aware of all music able to cop that vibe. I would replace it. Been playing for 25 years but learning for 20. This pedal doesn't get in the way of making music. Some other user said that this pedal draws out the sound from your fingers intstead of the feeling of having to push it through the cables. It's a good comment. The openess of the drive is how I feel it. It doesn't feel or sound small. There is room to move within the pedal's tone. Like having room to dance.

Very easy pedal to get a good tone no matter where the knobs are set at.The tone controls are very user friendly but in the nest version considering this pedal costs 200.00 bones seperate tone controls for each channel would be nice.

I can get Warren Haynes tone very easily with this pedal. It turns my hand made point2point single channel amp into a three channel monster without loosing the character of the orig amp tone.I mainly play Teles with neck HB and single coil in the bridge...also this pedal works really well with any guitar Ive plugged into it.When turned off or on its a very quiet.

Here is where I give Seymour no glory. The pedal itself has been bullet proof yet for 200.00 he thinks using an AC wall wart is going to save the customer money, well lets just say Ive had one replaced by the local dealer and the second Ive had to purchase myself.Plus I purchased another to keep in my case just for the eventual problem of needing one at a gig.If it wasnt for the fact that I absolutely love the pedal and what it does I would have thrown it in the garbage by now.The wall wart has not saved me any money or frustration. The AC wall wart is not cheap to buy.Ive even checked to see if someone makes a compatible aftermarket replacement and so far no such luck.

This pedal has two channels, each with its own gain and level controls. It also has a single two-band eq for both channels.

Getting a good sound out of this pedal is as easy as plugging in to it. No matter what the settings you can find a great tone that suits your needs with minimal adjustments.

I run this through a Crate thirty watt amp with a Schecter Omen 6 and a Eros les paul with Carvin pickups in it. I use an Original Crybaby a Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion and a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver.
You can get a huge range of sounds out of this pedal from punchy clean to over-saturated classic overdrive.
When I just played through my Crate amp I thought that the clean was awesome and that the distortion was really great. But then I bought this pedal and plugged it in. All of the Crate sounds sounded thin and lacking when compared to this pedal. It even made my Boss pedals sound better because they were being played through tubes.
This thing is a tube preamp so it doesn't just use the tubes as a diode to create distortion but it uses them as a driver stage which uses the tubes to their full potential creating a fuller sound.

Reliability : 8

I play anything from Classic rock to Blues to worship music and some Hard Rock. This pedal fits all of those styles extremely well. It wouldn't fit metal well because it has a very strong midrange so I wouldn't advise a metal player to buy it.
If this were stolen I would definitly buy it again. Even though it was $210 the sound that comes out is definitly worth it.
This pedal not only sounds great itself, it makes your playing sound better.

If you can't use this pedal, you shouldn't be plugging into an amp anyway. It's easy to figure out, no manual needed and it sounds great without having to tweak. The sweet spot is pretty large. My only minor complaint would be that the lights for the switches are at the top of the pedal instead of closer to the switches. It's no big deal but the pedal is so large that it's not as easy to see which channel is on or if it's on as it would be if the lights were right above the switches.

Sound Quality : 10
This is the best sounding overdrive pedal I've ever owned and I've had some nice ones. It really is an inspiring unit to play because it doesn't sound or feel at all like a pedal. It truly is like an extension of the guitar and amp. I like the gain difference between the crunch and lead channels... very usable. The tonal range is enormous and it cuts without being harsh and it sings without really overcompressing and making the note small. It sounds great with all of the different tube amps and different guitars I've tried it with.

Reliability : 10
I've had it about a month or so and so far it's been totally reliable. It appears to be very well built and sturdy. I would use it without a backup, but it sounds so good I'm thinking of getting another one for my other rig.

I've never needed customer support for this pedal but I've dealt with SD regarding their pickups and they've been very good to work with so far.

Overall Rating : 10
I play country/rock/pop and it is a great pedal for someone wanting a real tube amp overdrive sound. It's definitely not like a Mesa rectifier grind and it's not as gnarly as the V-Twin pedal. It's very smooth but has enough attack to cut without rounding off the notes like many of the tube screamer clones. It's defnitely going to stay on my pedalboard. My thought everytime I play through it is that THIS is what I want my guitar to sound like. The only potential downside of this pedal is that it is big. It barely fits onto my pedalboard and I'm sure there's a reason with the real tubes inside for its size so it's not a deal-breaker. It's worth the real estate. I'd recommend anyone still trying to find the perfect overdrive pedal to try this one!

Dirt simple: Input, Output, Bass, Treble, Volume, Gain. Manual is good, brief yet adequate. I'm a little wary of how close the knobs are to the switches, I forsee some accidental changes to the lead channel when in the heat of battle. However, not enough of an issue to warrant the loss of a point.

Sound Quality : 10
This device shouldn't be demeaned by the term "pedal," it is much more than that. I would consider it an extension of my amp and guitar. The bypass is uncolored and fast, the rhythm distortion can go anywhere from clean to the far side of crunchy, the lead tone is exactly what I've been looking for. It is fuzzy without being mushy, it is thick but not cloudy, it is stringy but not harsh. I'm going to buy another of these beauties for a backup, perhaps sell my TS9's DS-1's, Tube King and 250's, perhaps whore myself out and play covers for a while :).

Seems pretty sturdy, however the latching aircraft switches feel like they might have plastic innards. I may have to swap them for some all metal ones. My experience with plastic anything equals broken stuff at the worst time.

I'm going from my Gretsch Silver-Jet into a Budda Wah into the Twin Tube into a '68 Bandmaster into a 70's Marshall 4x12. I'm very happy with this setup and don't forsee changing in the future. My quest is complete, the last windmill tilted. I'm definitely buying a second.

By the way, a cool little trick is to set the Rhythm channel to just before break-up with the gain and use the volume control for a nice pile of clean volume. Basically you can use this trick for some stingin' clean leads. I was at first put off by the lack of tone controls for the separate channels, but after cranking it up and using it at full gig volume, they aren't necessary. The tone is set to "yummy" from the factory. I don't know how much of a "value" it is, but in my opinion it would be a bargain at twice the price.

Very natural tube amp sound because it is basically a tube amp ! The rhythm sound is very beefy and phat and the lead sound is a little more saturated with a slight peak in the mid to cut through. The two channels sound very different but both very usable. This pedal feels like a good tube amp and reacts like one too. Getting great tones with this thing is easy ! Real simple control layout. Bass and Treble chicken head knobs. 3 channels accessed via two footswtiches (your amp clean via true- bypass, Rhythm channel, and Lead Channel). The Rhythm channel and Lead channel each have their own volume and gain. Nice feature in that you can set your amp volume, the Rhythm channel and the Lead channel all in the same volume ballpark. The only reason I give 9 instead of 10 is that you need to adjust your levels for a minute or so to make sure one channel doesn't sound 10 times louder than the next when you are switching.

Sound Quality : 9
The Twin Tube is a handy piece of gear to have. If you have a single channel amp, this will give you the ability to add two dirty, clean, or in between sweet tube channels. I have a solid state Roland jazz Chorus, with a great clean sound but sub-par distortion channel. The twin tube gives me 2 more options for levels of saturation. It also adds more punch and dynamics to the amp, almost like taking a blanket off the speaker. The Rhythm channel can get a nice level of distortion without getting muddy. The lead channel has great sustain for single not lines but can get a little fizzy on the chords (think early Boogie), not my favorite flavor of distortion.
The pedal is also handy if you set your amp to an overdriven level. I have a Rivera era Fender Concert that I can set on the dirty channel, then use the Twin tube to access a clean channel and an over-the-top distorted channel. The distortion-on-distortion is a little too much in my opinion but if you need the never ending chord you can get it.

Reliability : 8
The housing is heavy duty metal, rubber on the bottom to prevent it from slipping. Comes with its own adapter. The unit is too big to fit in a guitar case so you will have to transport it separately. It has 2 mini tubes in it so there is some degree of fragility. If something goes wrong with the tubes you have to send it back to SD for repair. I am giving it an 8 due to the idea of having to ship it back to the manufacturer some day.

I've been playing for 22 years and have collected numerous guitars and amps. The main axe is a G&L S-500 (strat on steroids) but I also play a Jay Turser 335 copy. I refuse to pay Gibson's ridiculous prices, but that's another story. Overall I like the pedal. The only thing I would like different would be for the Rhythm channel a little more sustain, for the Lead channel a little better chord definition. But that is the nice thing about getting 2 channels in addition to the bypass, you get enough options to mix and match and get 3 really usable sounds.
If it were stolen I would probably try something else, not because I don't like the pedal but because I like to experiment with different sounds, leads to new music.

I like the possibility of a three channel amp that this pedal will create. My main amp is an AC 30 with a THD hot plate. No pedal I have ever used can sound and get the overdrive like that Vox with the volume cranked passed halfway going through a hot plate. If you own a Vox AC 30 you owe it to yourself to try the Hot Plate. My problem has always boosting my lead gain above the band since we mix from the stage. Anyway this pedal will do that. I love the rythm channel but the lead channel to me is fuzzy sounding and turns to mush with the pedal set with alot of gain.

Some of the best guitar players I have seen just save their money and master the volume control on their guitar buy turning it up and down. Brain, heart, fingers, guitar and a great sounding amp is what you need. But for the money this is a good pedal. It will turn a single channel amp into a three channel amp. For the money it is worth that. The only thing I dont like about this pedal is the lead channel. It is a bit fuzzy and square sounding to me.

I can get almost any sound out of this pedal; anything from hard rock distortion to classic rock overdrive to blues. It sounds completely amazing with an Original Crybaby in front of it. It doesn't have that harsh sound that digital pedals have with a wah wah.
I have a crate amp that I run pretty much only on clean (I hate crate distortion), a Schecter Omen 6 with Carvin Alnico 5 humbuckers in it, a Eros Les Paul style guitar with the old Schecter pickups in it (I plan on changing the pickups to Carvins soon), and I run a Crybaby through it.

This is a no brainer, easy to use, two channel boost/overdrive/distortion pedal. Each channel has a seperate gain and volume control, and the two channels share a bass and treble control. There is an led status indicator for each channel as well as an led to show that the unit is on. One footswitch switch is for true bypass, and the other toggles between the two channels. I have owned many overdrive boxes, over the years, Klons, Fulldrives, vintage tube screamers, modded reissue tube screamers, chandler tube driver, hotcakes, yada yada yada. I've loved them all, this is no knock on those pedals, but the Twin Tube is the first overdrive pedal I've used that makes my great sounding vintage fender and vox amps, sound like great vintage channel switching amps, if there had been such a thing. This pedalsounds unbelievably good, and it has such a great feel, really responding to hand dynamics. The rhythm channel ranges from a almost clean fat boost, to a great fat crunch, kinda tweedy, kinda plexi-ish., very dynamic, and natural sounding real tube overdive. The lead channel goes from a warm markII boogieish tone to a more modern high gain wail gettin fatter and more compressed at high gain settings. great for soaring lead tones and long sustain. For all of its gain, it has a suprisingly low noise floor, and the added bonus for me is when I have to use modelling amps for recording at late hours, in my case a Vox tonelab SE, The twin tube sounds fantastic pushing the front end of the Tonelab, and making a good sounding modeling amp sound even better. I primarily play strats and teles and cover and the twin tube really fattens up the sound of these instruments. If your sonic heroes have names like Hendrix, Beck ,Clapton, or Gilmour, you might want to give the Twin Tube a spin.

Reliability : 10
though I haven't had it long enough to really say, the twin tube seems to be very ruggedly built. a stout metal chassis, sturdy switches and hard wired tubes, seem to indicate robust build. I'll take a chance and predict it will give me years of trouble free service....

Just bought one of these and played it at a gig last night.
I'm EXTREMELY impressed!! I brought along a Barber Direct Drive, Jacques tube blower (that I modified), a dano daddy-o turned guv'nor, a couple of my own builds, and a rat pedal...just in case the twin tube couldn't hang with the big dogs.

There is a night and day difference...I was expecting a 'decent' tone, probably tonebone/tube driver type sounds, but this one AIN'T that!! It is NOT operating in starved tube mode like most of the others are (tonebone, tube drivers, EH, etc.) You gotta try this one! I opened it up and discovered that it is indeed pumping some serious voltage through it (I'm not familiar with these little sub-mini tubes, but I measured 400+ volts off the caps!).

I just checked seymour duncan's webpage and listened to their clips- they don't do this pedal justice! See the above mentioned mp3 link if you guys want to hear it. In the meantime, go to your GC or Samash and try one out, they are a touch 'fuzzy', but much much more responsive, smooth and creamy than anything I had with me, and I LOVE those pedals (except the daddy-o, still deciding whether to keep it or not).
