This product has proved itself over 25 years pluss YES I did say 25
I sold the first unit in November 1978. It was arround long before internet pundits could give me a hard time.
It was designed along with a keyboard version as an aid for beginers, never intended to be scrutinised by pro's.
I am thinking of producing a new one here in the U K factory.
Any Comments welcome.

Extremely easy to use.

Beeps to confirm when you push the buttons, but that's it.

Very reliable -- with some mods.

This thing is worth it if you only want basic chords, and can't remember how to get a 7th or 9th. It's also nice as it shows inverted chords, too. However, if you are looking for those "weird," and not so weird chords, that tend to pop up now and then, this thing is not as good as a chord book or computer program. My unit was also built very poorly, and the front touch panel kept lifting on its own. Some creative modifications with a scissors and super glue fixed it and it's been very solid ever since. If you have a Palm there are some free downloads available that show more chord patterns, but it's not as easy to use as this unit.

A little tricky to operate, but you'll get the hang of it. I think it may be a bit much "technically" for an absolute beginner with no music theory to relate to, but it should inspire the user to learn more about the various chord forms from other sources.

Sound Quality : 10
There's no sound. I'm not sure if adding sound to this product would improve it or make it annoying. I'll say it sounds great as it is.

Reliability : No Opinion
Seems to be pretty sturdy, but I haven't dropped it yet. I wouldn't count on my Les Paul if I dropped it either.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had any problems with mine.

Overall Rating : 10
As a music teacher, I think this is a great tool for illustrating basic chord forms and scale patterns to my students. Admittedly, it has its technical limitations, but I think it's a lot more fun and easier for a beginner than thumbing through pages in a chord book.

Easy to use. The end.

Makes no sound, you just look at it. Will make a cracking sound if you drop it, which will be very displeasing to your ears.

Reliability : 7
It worked the first and last time I used it, which was the same time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
If they keep making stuff like this, they will have no customers to support.

Overall Rating : 1
Very dissapointing, shows me the simple chords I already know, not much of a "computer" more like an Abacus. I thought this would be a good referance tool to help my feeble mind with complicated chords, Hence the "computer" moniker in the name of the product. They should have called this product "Chords you learned in 2nd Grade packed in a battery powered little black box"

This product is a small, battery powered, hand held guitar chord and scale computer. The previous user described how to use the computer very well, so I won't bother. Its very easy to use. Just push the buttons to get the chords you want.

Sound Quality : 1
This item was a major disappointment. Its ability as a guitar chord computer is severely limited to a handful of the most common types of chords. If you want a jazz chord computer, don't waste your time on this thing. It is clearly intended only for beginners who don't know what the hell they are doing. Its treatment of scales is horrible. If you rely on this product to learn scales, you will learn one scale in a box positon. Very disappointing.

Reliability : 5
this product is a flimsy piece of Chinese garbage. I would be surprised if it lasted longer than the disposable batteries it uses. After experiencing the cheesy quality of this product, I would never consider purchasing any piece of Snarling Dogs equipment.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I bought this piece of CRAP from Musician's Friend and promptly returned it to them to get my money back. I have no idea whether the Snarling Dogs company would stand behind its product.

Overall Rating : 1
Don't waste your time or your money. Go buy a guitar case chordbook. You'll never need to replace batteries and the book will never break if you drop it.

The Snarling Dogs BG-1 Guitar Chord Computer is a small, guitar chord and scale encycleopedia that fits in the palm of your hand. Its about the size of a large pocket calculator. Power is supplied by a pair of AA batteries. Operation is very simple: Press ON, select a note name for the chord (C,D,E,F,G,A or B), select flat or sharp (if desired), select MIN, AUG, or DIM if desired (the default is MAJ), and select 6th, 7th or 9th, if desired. A button labeled INV is can be pressed to display 3 or 4 inversions for most chords. After displaying the chord in the root position, you can press the SCALE button to display the corresponding scale.

Sound Quality : 5
In general, this is a handy product for someone who doesn't know chords or scales. It is very deficient in some of its scale functions. At least half of the scales are shown for only one octave in only one position. It would really be alot more useful if the scales continued all of the way up the neck. As far as the scales feature is concerned, this item is a major disappointment.

Reliability : 5
Its made in China and has all of the pizzazz of a cheesy product manufactured by slave labor. Even though it works fine right now, my impression is that its cheaply made and it won't last for long.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Not Applicable.

Overall Rating : 5
It is a reasonable chord computer that would be very handy for a beginning player. If you're a jazz guitarist you will be greatly disappointed. Most users will probably fall somewhere in between and have an intermediate level of satisfaction with the product. Personally, I think a good chord book will be cheaper, more reliable, and will never break.
