Ease of Use : 9
Very easy to use. One volume knob, and one sustain knob. Basically the sustain knob does nothing, so all the play is in the volume knob. since there is no fucking around with endless knobs and such, your left with adjusting the knobs on your guitar and on your amp. That being said, it has a great compression sound! The magic in this is to adjust your guitar volume, amp volume and pedal volume to get where you want to go. IT can get some spanky Nashville clean (If everything is set at moderate volume levels) to some pretty nasty distorted tones when the pedal is dimed. I Also use this to help my bass stand-out in the mix. Giving it an 9, because you just have toturn it on to get some compression.

Think of John Frusciante clean (on lower volume settings)

Sound Quality : 9
I bought this to get a little John Frusiante clean-spank like on the latest RHCP album. It does this quite well! It does wonders for helping your guitar's voice stand-out in the mix, and hence your playing becomes much more dynamic (provided your've got enough headroom on your amp). All in all everyhting become more focused, chmiey and just sweeter sounding. Your neck pickups smooths become more even, and your bridge pickup nastyness even more so. It also blends well with all the effects I've used it with. I Also have a High octane (Overdrive) from SolidGold and these two together can bring you almost anywhere (as long as your using a decent tube amp. If solid state is your thing, you might want to look elsewhere). This thing is VERY clean and VERY transparent, your guitars will sound the same, and you wont have any unwanted interference. I've only used it with batteries, no idea what a power adapter does to the sound.

my basic set-up goes like this :

2001 USA tele or 2002 Godin LG - Bespeco Volume pedal - SolidGold Comp 427 - SolidGold High Octane - Modded crybaby wah - Guyatone VT-3 (tremolo) - Line6 DL4 - Traynor YCV-40WRA.

With my tele, I go for a scooped-mids setting on my amp and the pedals dont interfere with this at all. With the Godin, I go the opposite way, I.E. Boosted mids and scooped highs and lows. Basically the Godin is a lead guitar, and the tele is for rhythym work, but they can also switch up, with a bit of knob twiddling. Giving it a 9 for transparency, and for making everything jump-out in the mix.

Reliability : 8
I've only had it fora few months, cant really say much for reliability. Everything looks well-built, solid components, solid switch and the soldering looks very pro, but is it gonna be as tough as a Boss pedal? Time will tell. I think it will. I've used it without back-up (mostly because I dont ahvea back-up) but I wasnt very worried about it cutting-out. giving it an 8 because its held up well until now ...

Customer Support : 10
This is where Solidgold/Greg excels. He's on my MSN list for christ sake! Awesome to talk to, very knowledgeable and informative. Cant go wrong with SolidGold. Im sure if ever anything happened, Greg would be here to help me out.

Overall Rating : 10
I play a bit of everything, and this pedals helps with everything. If I need more mids on a jazzy-solo, this pedal will help it jump out. Spankys cleans on my tele are even more so with this. Just cant go wrong with turning this thing on. Greg suggested I might go for a modded Boss CS-1 instead of this, but im happy I didnt go that route. I kinda wish it had a few more knobs to play around with, but then again its a plug-and-play pedal, and I would probably get lost with too many settings. I give it a 10 because I can spend more time playing then fucking around with knobs. and the price is pretty good too. I wouldnt say its cheap, but itsn ot expensive either.
