This pedal is Sweet Sound's take on the classic Electro Harmonics Big Muff. Just two controls...volume and attack; very simple. Unlike the Muff, the Pi Face has no tone control; and that's actually a good thing. As a result, the PF has a more pronounced mid, and won't get lost in the mix; like the Muff.

Hows it sound? I think it nails David Gilmour's lead tone. I'm no Gilmour wanna-be, but I play a traditional stock Strat, and sometimes I need a singing, sustained lead tone, with lots of harmonics...and some occasional howling feedback...AND..do it all without being too loud. It does that all very well, thank you. So, what don't I like about it? Well, as with Muffs in general, it wont totally clean up when you back off the guitars volume, like a Fuzz Face. But that's just the nature of the beast; you cant have it all, I guess.

Due to it's solid enclosure, I would say it's more reliable than an old Triangle, or Ram's Head Muff....I don't foresee anything going wrong with it. I should mention the in-out jacks are mounted directly to the printed circuit board. Over a long period of time plugging cables in and out could potentially stress the board. No big deal, though. I'm sure that's space saving to keep the total package small; flying leads would make a much bigger box, and this thing is way smaller than an old Muff.

Well...I did email Mr. Sweet one time with a question, and my e-mail went unanswered. Might not be his fault, might be...I don't know. That's all I can say.

Overall, I think this is just a kick-ass pedal. I really do hear that "Comfortably Numb Solo" in it. It's a great way to gain up a Strat. The price is more than fair. A new Muff? This thing just kills em'.
