Ease of Use : 8
Straightforward pedal. 3 'Chickenhead' knobs and a footswitch. Given an 8 because of the mode switch. Really should have a second footswitch to switch between overdrive and fuzz on the fly.

Sound Quality : 10
'64 Les Paul Jr through a Fender 'The Twin' amp, and an Ampeg Superjet.
The overdrive portion of the Mudhoney has the most lush, rich, musical-sounding overdrive I have ever heard from a pedal, period. Just a great usable sound suitable for classic rock sounds with the gain anywhere from 10 o'clock all the way to 5 o'clock. Below 10 o'clock it serves more as a clean boost, but even at lower levels (and maybe more so at lower levels) it has a great shimmer of dirt that really comes out as you play harder. Very sensitive and very expressive.

The 'fuzz' portion of this pedal is unbelievable. This is my main distorted sound for live. The overdrive portion is for recording (more clarity for layering guitar parts). The fuzz is very versatile in that the gain range is very wide allowing you to start out with a slight overlap of gain level from where the overdrive leaves off. Once you get the gain past 3 o'clock some definite Sabbath fuzz starts to kick in. As indicated by the name this pedal has a thick warm sound, and I have not been able to pull a biting 'shredder' sound out of it (to my complete joy!). I have played many a distortion pedal and would compare this pedal (very favorably) to the Fulltone Full Drive 2. I have been using this pedal for about 3 years now, and have had many compliments on my guitar tone.

All pedals are wildly overpriced, but you get what you pay for. Saw one on ebay for 125 today. Make no mistake, this IS a boutique pedal and is head and shoulders above anything you'll pick up at a Guitarget.

Reliability : 8
I have and will depend on this pedal, but have had to get a replacement.

Customer Support : 10
I had a kid looking at my pedal board break the 9v input on the Mudhoney, and had to send it back to the distributor. I was taken care of with great care. Because I had a show a few days later they paid to overnight the pedal to me. Dana B. Goods down in California - great people, very professional.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall the Mudhoney is the distortion pedal for me. Great tone, very expressive. Think of that Mesa/Boogie/POD/Modeling grind that everyone and their mom is slapping down for scream-o mountain dew commercial crap - this pedal is the opposite of that. Organic. The only reason this pedal isn't a '10' is the lack of a metal footswitch to control the fuzz / overdrive channels. Obviously I love this pedal, but try a Fulltone Full Drive 2 if you don't dig the T-Rex. Would buy another. This is my secret weapon.

Very straightforward pedal, distortion, volume, and tone knobs, boost switch. The black chickenheads look very cool on the creamy orange case (my girlfriend might know the proper name of that color, it certainly isn't orange the way oranges are - sweet looking pedal!)

But the fact that the tone knob is very close to the pushbutton combined with its elongated shape unfortunately carries the risk of accidentally changing the setting when stomping on it in a hurry, so I had to ruin the good looks by fixing the button with a strip of duct tape.

Otherwise, everything as it should be.

Sound Quality : 10
Very versatile. Without the boost switch engaged, it is a warm, fat OD that can also be used to boost an already distorted amp. In this setting I use it as a solo boost for my 2-channel 50W Soldano head.

With the boost switch engaged, the effect is way more radical. Turn the distortion knob past midnight and you get thick, soupy, gooey fuzz. Used on the neck humbucker of my guitar I can get very extreme sounds on low chords that are more reminiscent of an old analog synth than a guitar - sawtooth distortion, though I might be a tad out of my depth here.

On neck PU leads, you can get sweet, dark, raspy, cello-like tones that just never stop, while on the neck PU the sound becomes just ... radiant ... but still no less sweet. Makes me enjoy the long notes very much.

Currently I'm fiddling with it in front of a one-channel 1x10 solid-state combo that was built by a highly competent amateur radio nerd and that sounds inexplicably awesome for its size. I'm hunting for sounds to use in electronic music and getting very good initial results. This pedal has lots of useful, creative uses.

What this pedal does not do is sound bright and aggressive. You get a good punch out of it when it's in the boost setting, but the distortion mode is a highly relaxed affair. Consequently, some players might find it not "quick" or responsive enough for their needs.

Reliability : 8
Quibble: The mechanism for opening the battery compartment is very stiff. Theroetically you'd need kinda long, very tough fingernails to open it. Mine are too short, so I use a screwdriver, which was bound to go wrong eventually. Now the latch of the battery compartment has a fine crack, and I'm powering the thing with a 9V adapter anyway.

Functionally there is no reason to assume this pedal could ever fail me. I always gig without a backup.

Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
Wonderful pedal. I used to pooh-pooh distortion pedals (tried quite a few, Boss, DOD, cheapskate latter Ibanez, Muff, never kept them) and rely on the very adequate gain channel of my amp instead, with a volume pedal for rhythm/lead changeover.

The Mudhoney has brought me around. I would definitely get the same again.

Only three knobs (volume, tone, gain),and a Boost knob.So Simple.

Sound Quality : 10
If you are a fan of Jimi Hendrix,it's a must! Also you can achieve a sound like Stevie ray vaughan's.I use it with my Stratocaster 68' reverse custom shop,BSM fireball,Boss DD-3, and my Marshall 100 DFx.Well,it's a killer! It's only a bit noisy but nothing annoying. It sounds great!

Reliability : 9
I use it without back up.I've done many gigs and it passed all the tests.

Ease of Use : 9
Very intuitive although remember the Gain and Level interact. Very hard to make it sound bad.

Sound Quality : 10
Used with BASS eg my Precision this pedal is the best distortion I have found. No need for the boost gain with a bass. Sounds like 'Peaches' bassline by the Stranglers - lots of clank with no fizz and the tone control is perfect for the amount of high end bite you want. Much more touch responsive than my RAT, even with a plectrum you can go from almost clean to CLANG just with playing harder. I hope not too many Bass players discover this little pedal; more for me!

Reliability : 6
I have had cutouts but strangely unplugging then abusing the pedal always brings it back. I suspect the footswitch is on the way out... Still it has done a lot of gigs and survived.

Customer Support : 7
Never contacted them.....

Overall Rating : 9
For a non saturated, non saggy but still warm distortion for Bass the Mudhoney rules. I love this pedal chained after EBS Envelope filter into an MXR Dyna Comp - it responds to dynamics so well and distorts with the wah beautifully. Loads of juice in the level knob to drive amps too. Not noisy with sensible gains! Would buy another if it disappeared.

Three knobs and a boost switch... how hard can it be?

Sound Quality : 10
The sound is warm and middy. If you're looking for a metal distortion, or a a full of treble distortion, look elsewhere. To me it sounds more like a fuzz anyway. I use a 92 fender telecaster and a 2004 gibson les paul classic, to a marshall 1962 bluesbreaker amp. I have a few other effects, but the mudhoney dosen't need any compression (it has an amazing sustain, especially with the les paul) or EQ, so I don't use it with any other pedal than delay (T-Rex Replica).

The non boosted channel is great. Warm and smooth overdrive. The boost channel is much more impressing though. It's really fat, and kinda heavy sounding. The power chords on that pedal is nothing short of amazing, though they don't sound like typical metal power chords at all - they are more full and they have more presence than the typical boss MT-2.

Great for leads too, like I said before - warm and fat.
What's amazing about this pedal is that no matter how you set the knobs, the sound will still be as sweet as honey... no metal here.

Reliability : 10
Built very well. Used it for about 2 years now, never let me down...

Great pedal, beautiful sound, really versitale.
I give it a 9 for 2 reasons:
-No true bypass.
-The boost function is not a footswitch, which really sucks because you'll have trouble using it on stage as both a overdrive and a fuzz. But it's fine with me - it is my main high gain pedal, I have a different overdrive.

Ease of Use : 9
Very easy to use, three chicken head knobs, the gain control gives a very smooth range making it easy to dial in the exact amount of gain you want. Only complaint here is that the boost option has to be switched by hand.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing has gotta be the most versatile overdrive pedal I've ever used. You can dial in just about any kind of overdrive sound from a warm jazz to hard-rock, the common theme being a very warm tone. I use a Fender strat and a Gibson Les Paul through a class-A tube amp. The Non-Boost channel is very bluesy and does a great impresssion of an overdriven tube amp. This thing is also the quitest overdrive pedal I've played or tested. Only gripe is the tone knob isn't much use below 12 o'clock, sound gets too muffled.

Reliability : No Opinion
Simple sturdy construction, good quality switch. Can't see this thing ever breaking.

Havn't had any dealings with T-Rex

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play mainly jazz blues and blues rock, I've been playing 20 years.

I love the way the pedal doesn't color your tone and the way it lets the notes of chords ring and harmonize without getting muddy even at high gain settings. I compared this to the Vox Cooltron series and a bunch of other stuff. The Vox pedals have a tube in the pedal and are about the same price but you'd need them all to match the versatility of this puppy.

Not a bad setting on here!

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal is ridiculously versatile. It can range from a SRV,Hendrix,Mayer sort of bluesy thing to all out fuzz.It also has a great transparent overdrive. I could even see some apps for metal players.I'm playing it though a handwired AC30 so it sounds great on Class A, I have also played it through a Fender(incredible as well). Once again, you can do anything on it. ...and true-bypass to boot!

Reliability : 10
T-rex...come on!

Customer Support : 9
Though the pedal is pretty much self-explanatory, the manual was quite a disappointment. It was basically a printout of the info the website provided.I may be odd, but I want something to read when I spend $200.

Overall Rating : 10
I try to have as flexible of a rig as possible.I do play a lot of modern church music, but also a lot of blues. I really don't need alot of nonsense, so I do buy stuff that I can use for many styles. It sounds great with my Strat and Teles. This is a great buy!

Pretty easy to use. You get the gain knob, the tone, the level (volume) and the "boost" switch.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a gibson les paul studio with a few effects (T-rex Compnova and Replica, Voodoo Lab sparkle drive and analog chorus) to a fender blues junior and it sounds great. without the boost I would have gave it 7, just nice crunch sound, but when you click the boost...

Best distortion I ever tried, and trust me I tried a lot.

Built like a tank.

Never needed them, thankfully.

I'm not one of those who'll easily give a 10 in all of the fields, but that one really deserve it. My favourite pedal.
The best distortion I ever heard. Really fat and warm sound. A little pricey but I would recommend it to everyone.

Extremely easy to use. Gain, level and tone are all you want to set up your distortion and they are right there with boost knob.

Sound Quality : 9
Very compattible with single cole...I'm using Fender EJ and AM deluxe 50th Anniversay. Mudhoney produces a warm or brown sound which is good for a bright and sweet sound from Fender. However, Mudhoney is verry versatile pedal. Using it with hum will make you satisfied !

I can use the volume control on my guitar for a gain control. Sound like fuzz when turn the gain knob to maximum.

Less noise with true by pass !
Love it a lot.

Try it and you will love it.

Very easy to use, has teh classic three knobs (gain, voulme, tone) of just about all overdrive / fuzz / distortion pedals. Very easy to get a great sound out of it

Sound Quality : 10
Sounds it produces are spot on. Can get in your face wall nof noise when palying big barre chors to teh sweet phat fuzz sound, and with the gain quite low can get a lovely bluesy lead tone
