This is a very smooth and 'musical' delay pedal. I don't really use the 'brown' function for two reasons: I already have a Maxon AD900 analog delay before this delay in my chain and the brown function sounds like a muddy lo-fi delay instaed of a good analog unit. The regular digital delay is nice and round, warm and smooth, much better sounding than your typical Boss unit. I especially like the 'boost' you get when the pedal is kicked in...very 3-dimensional!. I use this pedal as a spacey over-the-top addition to my Maxon delay (which is on almost all the time) the T-Rex Replica lifts solos up in the air and adds 'girth' and a very nice boost to the signal! I use a Fender custom shop strat with a humbucker in the bridge position going through a Budda wah--Fulltone OCD--Budda Zenman--Foxrox TZF--Maxon AD900--T-Rex Replica--Bad Cat Black Cat 30R. Been playin' a long time and this is the best rig I've owned.

Nice pedal, best most musical DIGITAL delay I've used. I was fortunate to get it cheap from ebay...paying 5-600 bucks for it is a bit much though...

Relatively easy and straight forward. The manual is one page. I had a difficult time finding a setting on the Level control that was perfectly balanced with the bypassed sound. At 12:00 it sounded fine with my clean tone, but required a boost when I engaged my overdrive pedal, and a slight reduction when I switched to the fuzz, whereas with the Replica disengaged. The AC wal-wart power supply plugs into the courtesy outlet on my Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2, but it sure would have been nice if I could have used one of the regular DC connections. Also, the tap tempo switch is a great feature, but a momentary type switch would have ben better and easier to manipulate than the standard "clicker" type.

I'm using a Fender '60 Reissue Strat, Gibson '58 Reissue Les Paul, and an '89 PRS Custom. Amps are an Allen Sweet Spot (Princeton Reverb clone) and a Clark Beaufort (Tweed Deluxe clone). Effect chain is guitar -> Fulltone Clyde Wah -> Fulltone Mini-Deja-Vibe -> Fulltone Fulldrive 2 -> Fulltone Soul-Bender fuzz (I like the Fulltone stuff if you didn't notice!) -> Replica -> amp. I use the Pedal Power 2 to keep all of this stuff running without batteries. The pedal sounded its best with a clean guitar signal. While the effect is true bypass (a MUST HAVE feature, in my opinion) there was noticeable tonal coloration when the effect was engaged. It tended to compress the sound, which was especially noticeable when used in conjunction with my overdrive pedal, causing the tone to sound muddy and flat. One reason I bought this pedal was for the "Brown" function, which is advertised as simulating the sound of 60's and 70's era tape and analog delays. Well, certainly sounds nothing like a tape delay, and in my opinion falls well short of simulating an analog delay sound. The Line 6 DL-4 does a much more convincing analog delay sound than the Brown feature on this pedal. With the Brown button engaged, I also found that the volume of my delay repeats was substantially reduced, forcing me to turn up the Echo knob in order to hear the repeats clearly. After a lot of fiddling, I ended up prefering the straight digital sound over the Brown sound. For a digital delay, it's actually very pleasing. The dual Burr Brown 24 bit chips (like those used in the DACs of high end CD players) sound smooth and not harsh or "sterile."

These are built in Denmark and have a two year warranty. Don't know if you'd have to ship it all the way across the pond if it breaks, or if there is a U.S. service center.

A nice delay pedal, but for me the negatives outweighed the positives. On the plus side it has a pleasing delay sound with a very useable range (up to 1.5 seconds). The tap tempo feature is useful, and it's true bypass so you can still hear the dynamics in your pick attack when not using the effect. On the negative side, I didn't care for the tonal coloration I heard when the effect was engaged. I found it difficult to keep a consistent volume level when using it with overdrive and fuzz effects. Contrary to popular claims, the Brown feature sounds nothing like analog or tape delay. The wal-wart adaptor adds clutter to your pedal board. For US$400 I was expecting much more than what I got. I sent it back for a refund. Previous delays I have owned include Yamaha and Roland rackmount digital models, Boss DM-2, Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man, and the Line 6 DL-4. The DL-4 isn't bad, and has a very realistic analog delay simulation, but it takes up a lot of room and for me had too many features to be practical. I think I will try the new Maxon AD999 next. It is a true analog delay with up to 900ms of delay time, true bypass, and it runs off of regular 9V DC current, which means it is Pedal Power friendly. Other pedals I've considered or looked into include the SIB Echodrive (still a possibility if the Maxon doesn't work out) and the Boss DD-20 Giga Delay (probably sounds great, but does not have true bypass, which I am a fanatic about).

I will knock off one here only because the "Subdivision" button is a little hard to work with. I have a rack mount multi-effect that I use for studio work and it has a good way of dealing with what the subdivision button does. It just has 2 delay time nobs to give you sort of a staggered effect. Maybe there isn't enough room here for another nob. This slight difficulty doesn't bother me too much because I feel no need to use it that way anyway... it is however a little tricky.

Gear: Gibson Les Paul. American Strat, G&L S-500, Jerry Jones Electric Sitar, Amp: Orange AD-15/10.
Great accurate signal. It makes the overdrive sound a little smooth and compressed... a slight loss of "edge" when overdriven. When effecting a clean sound however, it mirrors the original tone better than any other digital delay I've tried. It is also true bypass so it doesn't wreck your tone when deactivated. Best delay I've tried.

I'm working on an art, rock, techno one man band. Other gear: lots of boutique true bypass pedals (SIB, 4ms, Teese, Loooper, etc.), midi gear, percussion module, pedal bass module, etc. Since the weakest of my skills is drumming, I need devices to assist me in keeping time in a way that doesn't get boring or annoying. The Replica get's it done and sounds infinately cleaner than the cheapo Dan Echo I have since ditched. This delay digital (I've heard) features the one of the highest sampling rates of any mass produced delay pedals. It succeeds at being accurate yet warm. I was debating between this and the SIB Echodrive. I picked the T-Rex because of its longer delay capacity and the tap feature. It was worth the extra $100. I'd definatly replace if stolen.

Straightforward intuitive controls comprising four knobs - Echo, Level, Repeat and Tempo - plus two small push buttons for "Brown" (high cut filter) and "Subdivision" (to generate triplet repeats from the tapped or dialled tempo), and two footswiches for on/off and Tap Tempo. As mentioned in a previous review, you need to do a little juggling between the Level and Echo (mix) to get the right balance between effect on and effect off levels. Happily this only takes a minute or two and the graduated markings on the case make it a doddle to recreate your favourite settings.
Manual is just a sheet of paper but informative enough.
Tap tempo is excellent and seems to only need two "taps" to set the tempo. Personally I cannot understand why anyone would want to use a delay effect without this feature.
The "Brown" and "Subdivision" buttons allow further sound options, as described above, and are excellent features. The "Brown" button gives a very "vintage" sound, lovely and warm and dark.
I don't use MIDI in my set up so can't comment on the effectiveness of the MIDI socket (accepts controller messages for effect on/off and tempo).
I also like the fact that the unit is physically not too big (approx 4" x 4.75") making it a bit easier to find the necessary space on the pedalboard. The Replica is also nice looking with a good quality paint finish and clearly legible markings.
This unit would score a perfect 10 but for the requirement for a 12v AC power supply. My Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 only supplies DC so I'll have to live with another wallwart (I'm in the UK so this comment may not apply for other markets eg US etc) on my pedalboard... I guess there is a technical reason why the supply needs to be AC rather than DC but for usability this is a pain therefore I've knocked off 3 points.

I use two G&L ASATs (one single coil and one with 'buckers) and a Gibson Les Paul Classic into a Cornford Hellcat amp and cab. Other effects include a Crybaby Wah, Roger Meyer Voodoo-Vibe, MXR Phase 90, and a Carl Martin Boost Kick. I generally use the Replica pedal in the fx loop and it sounds great with either clean or dirty amp settings. True bybass or not (I've no idea) this pedal is NOT a tone sucker and is also very quiet.
The sound quality is superb - very hi-fi with the Brown button off, very warm and "vintage" sounding with the button in. Max delay time is approx 1.5 secs which is fine for me.

Only had the pedal a few weeks so too early to say. It seems solid and well built enough, the footswitches appear to be good quality and the knobs have a nice feel to them - smooth but with enough stiffness to stay put when the pedal is being transported.
My only concern is the two mini pushbuttons which appear to be rather "fragile". I wouldn't recommend selecting these with your size 10 boots... Only time will tell.
Yes, I would (and do) gig it without a backup.

I play mostly indie, trippy rock - mostly originals. Being playing guitar and in bands for over twenty years.
I've got through quite a few delay pedals in my time, Boss etc, the most recent being an Akai Headrush. The Replica beats 'em all hands down. It's not cheap but it has all the functionality I require plus superb sounds, though if it had been GBP 50 cheaper I would have given it a 10.
It is difficult to convey just how good this unit sounds. It took 30 seconds for me to make up my mind to buy - it really is that good. If you buy this you will not be disappointed!
My only gripe is the power arrangement - wallwarts suck!

The Replica basically is easy to use. Some knobs and some switches.
One thing is different from most other delay pedals: the way the volume levels are set. There are two knobs that interact: the balance between dry and wet sound and the volume level knob. When adjusting the balance, the volume level has to be adjusted too.
The tap tempo switch is a great way to adjust the delay while playing live. I use it a lot.

The sound quality is very good. The normal delay signal is clear yet warm and not obtrusive. A high cut filter can be engaged for a vintage dark tone (tape echo), I like it.

I use this with my Gretsch guitar and Twin reverb. Other pedals I use are: Time Machine Boost, TS9/808 (analogman), Boss blues driver, Clone Chorus (analogman).
This pedal isn't noisy at all. Much less noise than my other delay pedals, I think this is mostly because this is a digital pedal.

I only have this for a couple of days, so can't really tell. It's built solid as a brick, and I wouldn't care using it on a gig without a backup. That does mean something, as I play Rockabilly music, and therefore greatly rely on a slap back delay for my sound (I almost never turn it off).

As I said. I mostly play Rockabilly and rock and roll music. This unit is great for that, the 'brown' switch really makes it sound like an old tape echo or analog delay pedal without the hassle with tapes or the noise.
You can also use it to make HiFi delay sounds and The Edge-like stuff.

This is the most intuitively designed effect pedal I have ever come across.
The 'level' knob is at unity gain when it's in the 12 o'clock position (straight up). From there, to boost your signal(up to 3db), turn it to the right. To attenuate your signal, turn it to the left. It's that simple.
If you want the repeats to be unity gain with your dry signal, set the "echo" knob in the 12 o'clock position. For more delay and less dry signal, turn it further to the right. For a drier signal with less delay, turn it to the left. Again, it's that simple.
The 'tempo' knob controls how much time there is in between echo.
The 'repeat' knob controls how many times you hear the echo, each one gradually getting more faint.
One of the most useful features, and one which most effects manufacturers neglect, is the 'tap tempo' footswitch. Stepping on this disables the 'speed' knob and allows you to set the delay time while playing. There's also a 'subdivision' switch which generates triplets based on the tempo tapped in by the player.
Also noteworthy, is the mini MIDI jack on the side for controlling the tap tempo from an external MIDI controller.
There's a built in AC adaptor so you do not have to use an unsightly wall wart to power it. Just plug the attached cable into the mains.

Not only is it easy to use and incredibly practical for both live and studio work, it's also the best sounding delay stompbox I've ever heard.
It does not color my sound at all. There's no hum or hiss, or any audible difference in tone whatsoever when the effect is on.
It has a 'brown' switch which is, essentially, a hi-cut filter that alters the tone of the repeats to produce a warmer 60's era tape echo delay sound. It sounds incredible!

This pedal is a perfect '10'. I paid $400 for it new, and never thought twice about it. If it were lost or stolen, I would purchase another in an instant.
I'm a session guitarist. I play all styles of music with little or no rehearsal time and, certainly, no time to fiddle with pedals on a gig. The T-Rex Replica does not get in the way of me making music, it only makes it sound better.
