Saying that this is a bad product is just confirming that you don't know anything about the subject!
There probably are better reverbs out there, but this is by far the best stomp box reverb I've ever heard! I've been playing many different reverbs. Holy Grail, Holier Grail, Holiest Grail, Boss, Digitech, Dan Electro Spring King + different rack products. I've even tried Fender's tweed tank reverb. Digitech's new Hardwire reverb, RV7 got a hall reverb that is much better than the hall in T-Rex Room Mate.
Back to the subject :-)
I use the plate preset in the Room Mate only.
I would prefer that the spring reverb in my Mesa sounded good enough, but it just doesn't. The Room Mate blends perfectly with my guitar sound and it is the first stomp box reverb I've tried that works well with my Carl Martin Delayla XL.
The sound quality of this box is just amazing!

I play many different styles of music, but my favorite is blues rock.
The Room Mate fits most of my playing, but I'll ad the Hardwire for Halls.
I've been playing for 20 years, last 15 years as a semi professional.
My main amp is a Mesa Boogie F30.
Pedal board: Hardwire pedal tuner
Onkart Gromt Gromguten(handmade norwegian overdrive)
Cry Baby Wha
Ernie Ball Volume
.....
Carl Martin Hydra Boost
Carl Martin Delayla XL
T-Rex Room Mate
My main guitar is an american Fender Deluxe Strat.
I use this equipment on allmost everything that I do.
I guess I'd buy another Room Mate if it was lost.

What we have is a reverb with 4 basic modes - Plate, Small Hall, Big Hall & Plate + Chorus, there's an output level switch a mix switch (dry / wet) and a high cut + it does stereo.
Its very very easy to use and all 4 modes give you a good quality sound without much input to be honest.
Compared to some of the modern units though it is under featured and works off a 12v supply nocking off a couple of points.

Ahh now here we go to my ears it sounds like a natural reverb (not an expensive box of tricks with a 24 bit D/A converter in it) . I've had this set at 1/4 wet for rhythm and just under 1/2 for Lead on a clean setting and it???s a real treat to the ears it just seems to have plenty of body without taking over the sound. On overdirive (using a Tube Screamer rather than the amps drivet) it blends well and does the job its supposed too. Using it with the Amps overdirve produces mixed kind of results as you'd expect.
If your wanting to integrate delay/echo into the chain then your in for a surprise as the T-Rex works really well with the delay giving some good classic sounds. It does seem pretty seamless with your other gear changing guitars didn't have me racing to change all the settings.
You have 4 well thought out class sounds out of this and not much in the way frills

I've been playing for quite a few years and this review was written on the back of this unit being used with some decent gear.
On the negative side it???s a herendous price for a pedal reverb (not that I paid it as I got it 2nd hand but still my wallet groaned even at that), its 12v argggggggh. If I was gigging I'd probably get a 9v unit just to make life easy, there's some good robust pedals out there and your normally struggling with the venue's acoustics anyway. Finnaly lack of features for the price
Now we have the plus side it???s comparable with mechanical reverbs and can produce studio quality sounds, there's nothing really out there pedal wise that gives you such a natural vibe. It fits seamlessley with other pedals, works really well with overdirve /echo & delay and is responsive to touch feel and seems happy enough with vocals and other instrumnets.

Very easy. Takes an hour to figure out your best setting.
The only pop I've heard was when I forgot to turn the amp off when I plugged in the power on the Roommate. Don't do that with any pedal. You'll here a large BOOM.
A cool feature is the stereo out. Use it on two speakers or as an insert in two preamps for vocals.

I wrote to them to congratulate them on their great pedal and show off my youtube video where I used it on vocals, and I got a free T-rex T-shirt. And you will be speaking to someone Danish and not someone from India. Feels a little closer to home, living in Norway. For the American here who had issues with the support being in Europe, I can only say in a comparison that I have had great customer support from Lynx, the soundcard producer, situade in the US. They will fix my old soundcard for hardly any money and are super nice to talk to. As long as they answer e-mails, and they don't charge you a lot of money and takes forever to repair it, you will be satisfied even if there is a whole ocean between you. Don't worry. It's a rather small ocean anyway.

I play metal and indie and 60's surfer rock, and I can use this reverb in any genre. It feels more old school than tc electronics or lexicon thanks to the tube. The Reverb effect I guess could be a little more versitile. Four settings is not enough sometimes, so a 9/10 rating overall, but then I think why should everything be like a VST where you have hundreds of settings, and not all sounding good. Here you get four really good reverb settings, plus you can alter them quite a lot.
A great feature is the Cut off knob which I use to limit the reverb effect somehow. This is necessary when playing metal since distortion and reverb don't mix well.

This is the best reverb pedal for guitar. No doubt about it. I like to experiment and I'm now building my own tube pedals after T-rex opened my mind that outboard gear doesn't have to sound like Boss and their Yngwie Malmsteen. But I could not have built this one. It is too much a work of art. I also tried it on vocals using the insert/send input on my mic preamp (search "t-rex roommate on vocals" on youtube) with great results. I have many reverb VST-plugins in the computer and they are really high standard. Take Breverb in example. But none of them gives the same warm and musky feeling as the Room Mate.
About pops: This is the only kind of pop I have experienced and it is negiable; If your amp is on and the roommate is connected but off and you plug in the power to the roommate, then you will here a pop. That is understandable and you should not sit and listen to the pedal getting electricity anyway. So just have the Amp in standby or off when pluggin in the power, or disconnect the roommate.

Yes. I dropt it in the floor the first day I got it, when experimenting with vocals. It couldn't care less. Built like a tank like the rest of the t-rex pedals.
Though I am dreading for changing the tube in ten years. That thing is bolted in there behind glass and 3mm steel. I guess I'll just send it for repair. The tube is made for T-rex only. I don't think i will find it on ebay.

I play metal and indie and surfer rock on a modded Marshall AVT50 Combo. I like what happens to the sustain when playing metal leads when using the cutoff to minimize the reverb since distortion and reverb is usually a bad mix.
I could duplicate John Watts Luna Laguna in an instant.
Using Chorus I could play Tool.
I had an old Peavey Rage 158 15Watt speaker that I plugged in a cheap Celestion and with the roommate the speaker was transformed in an instant.

The sound can be described as warm and full.
I also like the volume knob, so I can make my solo's louder
This pedal works at it's best if i use it with the send/return from my amp.
Also very nice to use this pedal as the last one in the chain, on a clean channel with distortion pedals before it.

In response to a previous review which stated the tube is a gimmick and that it is a 'starving-tube' . . . . this pedal runs the tube at 300 volts . . . this is the same voltage you will find any high end tube amp running its own preamp tubes at - this is a true and proper amp-plate voltage. Point being, the tube is not starving nor is it under-powered - quite the contrary, this tube is running as hot as any tube in any real tube amp on the market. 250 volts and up is sufficient juice to power a single preamp tube. EHX pedals for example run their tubes at 225 volts - i don't hear anybody calling those tubes starving - they are running hot at 225 volts. In conclusion, the tube is being fed more than sufficient power. Some of these units seem to be malfunctioning but the tube is not the problem - the tube is not a gimmick in this instance like most pedals - the tube is as functional as any tube in any tube amp. If something doesn't work then something is wrong - if this pedal doesn't sound spectacular return it for a replacement - that is why they are under warranty. Anybody who has used the unit knows the sound quality is better than a 1. I am shocked HC even posted that review since they are supposed to filter out the extremely good and extremely bad reviews. Some lazy guy didn't feel like putting any effort in to getting it working and was probably a jerk when speaking to the customer service dept at TREX. I personally don't have any songs i play where i need to toggle on and off reverb repeatedly so the blip is no issue for me (i haven't ever heard it for myself when hitting the switch anyway). In my mind, a reasonable rating for this unit should fall between 6 and 9. I own a Holy Grail reverb and it doesn't touch this unit. One thing to consider, if your not that great of a musician to begin with then having great gear doesn't make you sound much better since your not playing any better when using it. I can see how some amatuer might think their spring reverb tank sounds better - i hate the sound of spring reverb which is why i love this unit. A top choice for digital reverb - the price on MF is very reasonable as well compared to a 63 fender tank.

I use it mainly on harmonicas with a '50s Turner mike and a Boss DD6 stereo delay pedal. Sometimes through the PA, sometimes through my gorgeous Sonny Jr hand-built Four Ten harp amp. Also general studio use on my analog keyboards when I'm not using the Peavey Valve Verb rack mount spring reverb.
I have to say this is a WONDERFUL reverb. I upgraded from a Holy Grail which was ok but too basic for me, and this is as sweet as can be. Setting 2 is where it lives. Very quiet which is vital on my regular gig which is just voice, piano and me so very exposed.
Only one thing and a big one: it's started to make a HORRIBLE clunk when switched on/off. WHY on a pedal of this price can't they use a top quality switch? Crazy... Hence the less than perfect rating

I've played for 35 years and have tried every piece of serous equipment med through 3 almost 4 decades. I play semi-pro and loves to play blues, classic rock, country, surf & Jazz. Infact, all root oriented styles with a nod toward Robben Ford and Jimi Hendrix (ballads). I play strats, teles, PRS, Gretch and Les Paul. And have collected a lot of old amps - e.g a Dumble amp. I use effects sparringly, but am a sucker for reverb and delays
Its sounds ok, but not spectacular.
It has four modes, which are ok but won't blow your socks off. I've got an ELECTRO HARMONIX "HOLY GRAIL", which beats the room mate by many lenghts. The reverb tail is much better and sounds almost on par wtih my ol' Fender Blackface Twin 64' - the room mate doesn't. It sounds like a reverb plugin in my computer, Maybee they use this kind of algoritm? Don't no. The tube that they made bravingly has put on display through a small plastic window on the front is definitely not doing anything for the sound. Don't let this gimmic influence your choise of digital reverb pedal. Its a "starving tube" with low voltage. Just a gimmic.
I wouldnt buy this one, you can buy Three ELECTRO HARMONIX for the price of one Room mate - AND get a beter sound.
Besides this mine has a strage "plup" sound when its turned on/off. That really annoys me. If it was build into the map I would just leave it on and not worry. But, hey whats the point of having a pedal the makes a loud plup??
In fact, I don't quite understand all the extremely positive reviews below. Perhaps, because some people payed (too) much money for the piece and likes to think that they haven't been fooled by advertisements and hot air. It's only human.

4 self-explained knobs: mix, level (overall loudness, as this baby can nearly act as a boost), high cut and mode. It has 4 modes, each one awesome and clear sounding. The tube really does the job of warming up the reverb as it's supposed to do... I find it hard to get a bad sound out of this magic box. Comes with an apposite Ac adapter and mine had a useful set of converters just to be played worldwide; isn't this customer care? Anyway, it has all the features I could dream of in a reverb unit.

Hearing this reverb and falling in love with it is a matter of nano-seconds! It adds some magic to your guitar's sound. Being able to control the top-end overtones in the reverb cue really affects beautyfull the overall response, as lets YOU decide wether you like that velvet jazzy-feeling or an ice-picky twang: it just does everything you want it to do, and does it d+++n well!
I've never been a reverb fan, so far, as I've always been playing with straight amps w/o rev (Marshall 1974x, lately; Valvetrain Tallboy 205, Marshall JTM45); now I hardly switch it off!
It's not noisy unless you dime the mix and level; perhaps it's a bit less quiet than a digital reverb, but if you wan it to be warm and tube driven it can't be dead-silent.
Reliability

My only other stomp-boxes are a T-rex Dr.Swamp and a self-built volume boost I call "the Gas", but I digress... These Danish boxes are really rock solid. I've been gigging 5 years regularly with my Dr.Swamp (I never had a back-up) and never missed a shot! I'm confident this baby will be reliable like its elder brother, although the tube could make it a little more frail.

Never dealt with them directly, but I suppose the dealer should be the interface between the maker and the user, and Mr.Kim has been really helpful and friendly beyond imagination.
ADDED UPDATE: I'd like to rate it at "11"... I wrote an e-mail to ask info about a problem with my pedalboard power-supply (which is not made by T-Rex) where I suspected a sort of incompatibility... 1/2 hour later Mr.Michael Pagaard replied me with the solution.
This is by far the best Customer Support I ever found in 35+ years of playing! I guess it's worth a mention.

This will be brief. I used the pedal over a weekend as a loan. I am trying to decide if I want to use it to replace the reverb in my Lexicon MPX-1 and go to all stomp boxes
Sound Quality

This is my main reason for writing this review, which I normally wouldn't do for something I don't own. I am trying to counter the 1 rating this was given. This is an excellent sounding reverb. My Lexicon processor was well over a thousand dollars new, not including control pedal. Although this does not have the large number of presets, the fundamental sound quality was superb. I used it with a 67 blackface Deluxe Reverb which is completely original including tubes (a closet classic), a Savage Rohr 15, a Mesa Express 50, Gibson Goldtone, and a Bogner Shiva, all amps I own. It worked well with all of them, even the Bogner which can be really picky. No noise issues and excellent tone. My point is that there must have been a problem with the unit for one of these to rate a 1. When I encounter something like that I assume that the piece is bad, perhaps question QC (or UPS) and don't rate it. I think there are too many 10's on this site but a 1 for this piece is silly.

Plug and play like most boxes, but the mode button needed an extra sticker to explain what it does.
As far as being a stomp box, it is useless. It makes a massive noise when you click the button. Not stageworthy at all. Only option is to turn it on and leave it on. But what kind of stomp box is that?

The reverb sounds really good, if you ignore the horrible buzzing noise the box makes.
I'm guessing it has to do with being 12 volts where every other box on my board is 9 volts. But can't really say.
I get the buzzing noise if I just plug the adapter into the power strip I use - even if the T-rex is out of the signal chain.
And if it is in the chain the noise is much louder.

This pedal is very easy to use, there are four types of reverb/effect.
1. Classic Plate - a vintage medium plate reverb.
2. Warm Hall - a bigger sound with a natural warmth.
3. Bright Hall more crisp detail reverb.
4. Chorus with Warm Reverb - very nice chorus - I really like it a lot.
I find I mostly use the 'Warm Hall' reverb with the mix at about 3 and the level at 7.
I noticed the high cut barely changes anything unless you are playing through a bright amp with single coil pickups.
There also is a stereo out - I tried it once at home with two amps and it is nice and full but for me hardly worth the bother of bringing two amps to a gig with extra cables, not to mention all the other stuff I have to set up.
Sound Quality

The reason why I bought this reverb pedal was because of the tube, T-Rex claims it acts a tube pre-amp when it is not even turned on.
I am a professional with about 150 gigs per year.
I play mostly acoustic fingerstyle guitar and some electric jazz at my gigs.
For my acoustic - I use and AER amp and I find the reverb much better that the AER stock reverb (so I just don't use the stock AER reverb anymore). I like a dark and warm reverb, so for me - The T-Rex nails the sound I was looking for - warm tube pre-amped reverb.
I have a handmade Clark Beaufort ('57 Deluxe) tube amp that has no reverb so this pedal goes right in front of the Clark and it sounds great.
Someone else complained about the hissing noise on this product.
I heard it once... when I used this pedal at my friends house. It must have been the power there, because I haven't heard it anywhere else and I've played tons of gigs in many places. It may not like noise in the line voltage causing some sort of 60 cycle hum or even RF - I really don't know, so I shouldn't comment on such technical matters.
I'm giving this pedal a 9 in sound quality only because the noise thing happened but once yet still could rear its ugly head in another future situation.

I've had the pedal for 6 months. I don't have a backup.
I think I would like to have another so I can keep it with the other amp.
It appears to be built very well with clean graphics and a little window to have a peep show of the tube. Kind of an 'Eye-Candy' thing really.

I've bought a few pedals from Super Sound Music. Brian knows his stuff. I'm sure if a problem arises, he'll handle things for me with the manufacturer.

This is where things get interesting! I purchased my FIRST (this is important later) T-Rex Roommmate from a music store in NY (I purchased online). I received the pedal a few days later and for some reason it made a horrible hissing noise, almost like wind through a tunnel. Apparently, according to the store, T-Rex KNEW about a bad batch of these pedals with this defect, yet couldn't pinpoint it down. FINE. Send me another. T-Rex sends me a completely new Roommmate 2 weeks later. TOO BAD THIS ONE IS BROKE TOO! The second one was worse than the first one. The tube WOULDN'T EVEN COME ON! NO SOUND WHATSOEVER! I wrote the music store that I purchased this item from and requested they immediately ship this GARBAGE back to Denmark where it belongs. I will never, ever buy another pedal from T-Rex as long as I live and neither will any of my colleagues. I should've known better than to buy a pedal from a company that endorses Michaelangelo Battio. Screw him and his four-necked guitar. That's three necks too many.

If you talk to a T-Rex representative they will immediately inform you that all of their products are garbage. I'm not totally sure of this, but I'd almost bet that this is true.

Very easy to use. Hardly had to read the manual. They could, instead of just numbers on the 4 part control knob, put the names "hall", "spring" , "plate", "chorus+plate" on the box. It's a little bit stingy considering the asking price. It's not that many letters to fit in.

It has replaced the onboard spring reverb on my amp. However, no one should BS me that the tube is essential for its sound. That could be solved with modelling today, or the same character could be obtained otherwise. Tube imposes a fragility in terms of reliability and actually heats up the unit unnecessary. They should have incorporated a pre-delay unit at least on some of the 4 patches, maybe two of them, or rather a know which controls predelay from 20 ms to 120 ms at least.
However, the timbre and character is very useful for electric guitars and you can get a twang reverb out of it without the boinginess AND noise of an onboard spring reverb. The chorus mode is so and so, useful sometimes, but actually gets fatiguing on the ears after a while, something that the "tube" and "warmth" are supposed to remedy in most other cases, but doesn't. It has true stereo mode, and it's there where it shines, but using as I do, replacing an onboard amps spring reverb, it has to resort to mono. The silence and dynamics of this unit are very cool. You can lean in and before it cracks up, the tube takes care of the cracking dynamics, whereas on a complete digital unit it may compress it first in order to keep it from digital unpleasant distortion.
The other 3 reverb settings are not as fatiguing on the ears, as the chorus one, and you can basically keep it on forever. The reverb algorithms decided for use here are exceptionally well sounding, but niched and narrowed down to use for electric guitars only, it seems. There's a plate/spring character to all reverbs in it, but without the resonant and chill frequencies. I wouldn't be surprised if amp manufacturers tried to license it and incorporate this reverb - with the tube - inside future amp models.
The main thing with this unit is how it handles explosive attacks from picking hand with reverbs. Then the tube - and maybe high cut filter - can come in and show how it mellows everything out from becoming to shrill and annoying. And when playing smooth dynamics it seems to "open up" a bit. Just as if someone is raising the treble inside the box! And when hitting hard on the strings, someone is turning it down...well, without compressing it! Ok, well, that's the closest description I can get. A very daft explanation, I know... :-)

Its sturdy, but has a tube in it. It's only a matter of time when it starts to burn out. Manual says 10 years. Well, so be it. 10 years is 10 years nonetheless. Other than this it holds up. See above caveats about the tube in it. Anyhting with a tube in it, imposes a fragility.

Suitable for all kind of guitar music. The main thing is that you can use a lot of distortion with this unit, as well as crystal clean sounds. I don't think an onboard spring reverb is THAT suitable in all areas. I wish it had pre-delay. Maybe a clipping indicator cause you have a control input on it. If it was stolen or lost, I won't even know if there's some similar competition at all. So I would buy another unit. It is a tad expensive, due to the tube, but if this works so be it. But, I can't help to think that the tube is put in there just to give it a "boutique" vibe, or hype it like "anything with a tube in it are bound to sound good".
I can't help to think, that they would've been able to solve this without the tube. Just as well. Get's a little TOO warm, the box and the unit.
A delay before this unit, and - maybe - a compressor, would boost this unit into a value of 10 and above.

Input jack, 2 output jacks, 12V DC in. True bypass, tube-driven item (12AX7).
4 modes of reverb: plate, warm, bright, warm w/chorus. 4 knobs: mode, mix, high cut and level.
Pretty simple to get useful sounds in a short time. Shouldn't need to read the manual for this!

The quality of the 4 reverb effects are of a great manner! They sound always natural and clear, the guitar's tone keeps alive, yet. Not noisy at all. The signal processing is digital, but it is led through the 12AX7 tube, so it always sounds warm (analog)! Fantastic plate, hall and reverb effects you get here!!!
It would be nice, if it were possible to change the time of the effect in every single mode, too! This way I would give it fully 10 points!!!

Seem to be built solid enough to last for a long time of usage! I would gig it without a backup!!! T-Rex says that its tube should work for 10 years, but maybe you should have a spare tube for the worst case!?

Exceedingly straight forward. Anyone could dial in something very quickly that they found made a good contribution to their sound. While only 4 basic settings are offered, in reality the sprectrum of sounds this pedal offers is reasonably broad considering how few controls there are overall.

This is both a digital and analog pedal. The fact that there is a 12AX7 tube in it's architecture is NOT something you would miss in making a critical assessment of it's contribution to your sound. The tube aspect is definitely noticeable in warming up the overall tone. If you use a solid state amp this would be definitely be helping you add signifcant warmth to your sound. The high cut filter is an equally welcome addition. Because of this control you can dial in more of the reverb effect for general ambiance and not have the reverb's tail get in your way or seem unnatural. To me it's the 12AX7 plus the high cut filter knob that set this pedal apart from anything else out there. My ears tell me this pedal offers the best of both analog and digital reverb. Imagine an excellent Fender spring and Lexicon LXP-1 verbs running concurrently. This will get you close to the sonic realm that's the core charm of this pedal. The reverb's tail I found to be very natural and complex. Using both outputs makes a significant difference in achieving spaciousness and spread due to some designed in delay algorithm differential. I did not find the 4th setting's sound (combined reverb and delay/chorus) to offer what I had hoped for in playing chordal-style jazz, but I'm glad it's in there and intend to experiment with it further. It is the plate and warm hall programs that I found most musical. Runs very quietly! The by-pass worked well/ transparently when I had levels adjusted properly to compare.

Too new to know. The manual states that the 12AX7 is designed to last 10 years?!? Who knows. Maybe it would be best to have a spare 12AX7 in your emergency repair kit arsenal. It's reliability is not an issue I'm very concerned about. Seems totally solid in its construction. The tube does make the pedal warm after use but nothing to worry about. On a darker stage you would see the tube glowing warmly.

This is definitely something you should check out for your own purposes if warm reverb and spaciousness are important to you in your sound. My satisfaction with this pedal is right up there where I'd hoped it would be. -At $369 list these are no giveaway, but overall... it's humble features, sound and musical contribution justify the cash outlay to me. It's an excellent and fully worthy reverb. I will be using it full time in my set up. My LXP-1 will be collecting dust from now on.

Very easy to use. The unit has not only a good choice for the amount of features, but also stereo outs, which can be handy. Further, the Room-Mate gets along well with high level input signals and has enough output to drive an effects return that needs to be driven harder. It's very easy to get a great sound. The 4 modes don't say anything, which means you have to open the manual to read what they are. Also the power supply is 12V DC. I also have the Replica which is 12V AC. I'm sure there are reasons for this, but in the end it's quite annoying to deal with all these different wall warts. That's why it's an 8 only.

In bypass there is no audible difference. The whole sound processing happens here on absolute professional level. I am surprised that this unit is cheaper than the replica, because the sound "feels" more expensive. Not sure what the tube is doing, but I actually think this makes my whole effects chain sound better when it's activated. The 4 modes are distinctive enough and very useable. I am happy that I don't have to deal with 16 different reverb modes like in many other FX units. The 4 modes here are a perfect choice and there is enough versatility in combination with the High Cut filter. The sound stays even at high effect mix levels transparent and punchy.

I play in a Top40 band and have to cover from Madonna to Rage against the Machine. Guitar is my passion since 17 years. I was mainly looking for a reverb to thicken the sound a little bit and only rarely give a real effected sound (e.g. Solo in Pink Floyd's Time) and decided to go for an external unit rather than the integrated reverb of my guitar amp, as it's more flexible. I love its simplicity and high quality, which is the same why the T-Rex Replica is such a great choice. Plug in and be happy, don't worry about anything related to reverb anymore. I wish it would run on standard power supply as I hate too many cables, and mess on the floor. I compared it to the optional internal reverb of my guitar amp and decided to get the T-Rex instead.
