2 tubes for an authentic overdriven amp sound.

You can store 4 different overdrives for immense flexibility.

Spinning controls!!!!!

A simple user interface.

It's so easy to find great tone. Top marks.

Sound Quality : 10
Some of the reviews on here have panned this unit but all of them refer to the early version of this pedal. T-Rex listened to the negative feedback and have changed the way this pedal sounds. How good is that? No-one can complain now.

It's the only pedal I've ever fired up at rehearsal and seen everyone's jaws drop. Seriously.

It cost megabucks but, into the front of a Vox AC30CCH, it sounds like, er, well like awesome guitar tone should sound.

I have setting 1 as a lightish crunch (think early Bryan Adams), sound 2 as heavier crunch (think Oasis - go on be brave) setting 3 is Santana-ish treble rolled down thick lead tone and setting 4 is in yer face full on meltdown searing hot lead. Supposedly. Shame about my note choice :~(

Reliability : 10
When something is built this well you know it won't let you down.

The Danes have given the Brits blonde hair and now great tone too. Everyone should have a little Viking blood!

Not had to use them but I bet those cool dudes have this sussed as well.

Overall Rating : 10
I play classic rock. And pop. And some folk but that doesn't count in this review. I reckon I could put this pedal in front of ANY amp and sound good. Pairing it with the Vox is just showing off.

I keep watching out on ebay for another. Just in case. (8 drive tones? Am I an addict?). I can't live without it.

OK the one downside is it's dear (mine was on special offer - usually they're around the 500GBP mark) but then quality invariably is.

Since I bought this I've replaced all my other pedals (drive, boost, chorus/flanger and delay) with T-Rex equivalents. Apologies to Boss, Digitech and Tokai but it really is a no brainer.....

The Spin Doctor is very easy to use! Saving a preset is as simple as possible. Just press the save button for a few seconds. So its really possible to change your presets in a few seconds to make it sound good in different locations...

Sound Quality : 9
I had to try a little bit. The normal output is optimized to produce raw rock sounds like e.g. AC/DC . I personally prefer altlle sweeter tone. So I use the recording out and then go into my (Plexi Marshall) Amp!
So I can shape the tone to the sounds I like with the tone poti on the back of the Spin Doctor. That works perfect!!!

Reliability : 9
Absolutely strong ! I use it for about half ayear now! No problems!

Customer Support : 10
The guys in Denmark are very friendly and helpful! Thanks a lot!

I play blues and roots rock ! See me demonstrate the Spin doctor here :

4 different channels. Took me 5 minutes to make it Rock!
The knobs move directly, when you change any setting.
I think the Spindoctor is pretty easy to use.

Sound Quality : 10
It is the warmest sounding preamp I have ever tried!
It is very vintage based - sounds like an old cranked Marshall. It is great for Jazz, blues and especially Rock.
I could nail old Zeppelin sounds right away.

Reliability : 9
It is built like a tank and the design is great. So far I have had no problems.

Customer Support : 10
I called T-Rex to get the manual and they showed me how to download it. The guys at T-Rex has helped me with The Replica ealier, and they are just great! Hands up!

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing guitar for 20 years, and I have had a lot of preamps - VHT, Soldano, CAE 3+, H&K. The Spindoctor beats them all. This product will make history!

This effect is probably the easiest and best sounding preamp for guitars i've ever heard and tried. The motorizied knobs makes it so cool to save your presets and you can change your sound even on the fly. Few knobs and an easy userplate.

Sound Quality : 9
You are able to make real warm distorsion and you dont have to be a rocketscientist to do it.
The Idea of having steps of overdrive is so useful and because of the Tube, you'll get a nice and warm Tubesound.

Reliability : 10
It seems very reliable og comes in a solid Metalbox

Customer Support : No Opinion

For Rock, Pop or almost every style of music, you can make your own personal sound, easy, fast and save it for next gig. This makes this Pedal a must in my effectboard from now on.

Actually the SpinDoctor is pretty simple to use. I would dare to say that it's nearly impossible to get confused, when you're looking at the surface of this pedal. The potmeters are named by what they do and you'll hear very specific changes, when you move them.

The spindoctor contains 4 individual easy-programmable channels, with an endless amount of possibilities.

My rate is a little bit low, because it comes without a manual. Personally I never use these, unless I can't make the gear work. But I'm also convinced that some might find it nice to have.

Sound Quality : 10
I've played the spindoctor with many different guitars, humbuckers as well as single-coils. It does for me, what i've never tried before. It gives me and ultimate satisfaction no matter which guitar I choose. Back in my "stomp-boxes-times" I was forced to use one drive-pedal for each guitar, to get the sound I needed. The spindoctor is so versatile that this isn't a problem for me anymore.

I've always been a fan of tube-effects, especially when it comes to drives. But the Spindoctor have carried my goals for "The greatest sound" to a hole new level. It really does everything. From smooth blues tones, to the most insane high-gain you can possibly imagine.

I listen to bands like "Angels & Airwaves", "Switchfoot" & Fall Out Boy. It is no problem what so ever to get close to their sound with the spindoctor.

At the moment I play mainly a 60's customshop relic strat over a Matchless Clubman 35 on a 4*12 cab. My board contains a TC Electronic G-system, a MoogerFooger Phaser and the T-rex Spindoctor.

I can't count the different setups I've had on 2 hands, but this is by far the one I've kept longest without any thoughts of selling out again.

Reliability : 10
I've had it for nearly a year now and almost use it every day. It's still as reliable as when I played it the first time. But it's no surprise to me, a T-rex pedal is built like a tank. I've owned a great amount of these and never had any problems at all.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Like I wrote before these pedals are built like war-machines, so "luckily" I've never been in contact with the customer Support.

Overall Rating : 9
I've had the spindoctor for nearly a year now, and skipped all my other drive-effects when I bought it. Maybe it seemed a little bit stupid at the time, just to rely on one pedal. But this preamp really does it for me. Sure it's a lot of money to spend, and I won't advise the one to buy his first pedal to go for one of these.

But it is 4 pedals in one... It delivers the greatest drive-tones for many different guitars...

And last but not least... You'll never regreat it ones you've played it live..

Ease of Use : 5
I have to give it a "5" because, yes the knobs turn all right, but you can't dial in a any usable good sound.

Sound Quality : 1
Treble, Treble, Treble. So you have to turn that all the way down same with the presence. The mid goes to max and bass to maxx and it sounds like a 50 USD Behringer tubescreamer. Lousy - don't spend your cash on this product. It costs as much as a fair tube amp. And its only produces one tone, no matter how you dial the knobs. Whats the point in 4 presets of bad tone??

Reliability : 5
Fine, on par with other stuff available today.

Customer Support : 1
I tried to contact the company in denmark, only to get a strange comment, that the pedal was designed to be used with racks systems???? and that this was the reason why the treble was voiced to extreme high pitch. Get that developer out of that company. Who buys a 1000 USD pedal only to use it in a rack, that need extreme bright boosts ?? I don't know any.
So I went back to the store where I bought it, and asked them how to use this pedal. They smiled and told me that it was the worst pedal they had heard to date and all customers had returned the product. I got a full refund on my purchase. So the store deserves no acclaim for selling me the product, but a "10" for refunding every penny.

Overall Rating : 1
I can't repeat this often enough: Dont buy this product!
You'll pay for a tube amp combo and come home with a worthless pedal.

Therefore, the overall conclusion is that the product is pretty lousy - don't spend your cash on this product. It costs as much as a fair tube amp. And its only produces one tone, no matter how you dial the knobs. Whats the point in 4 presets of bad tone??

I'm very dissapointed in T-Rex. They're way overrated IMHO

Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use: 3 knobs & 4 presets.

Sound Quality : 1
I gave the Spin Doctor a 1 regardless of the cost. It was way too tingly and bright. I know I play on a bright amp (Fender Twin) but I have not had any other pedals nowhere near as bright as this on my set-up. I first tried it with my les Paul and I had to back the amp treble to 1 or 2 and roll the treble on the pedal to 1 and it still sounded bright, even at any volume and gain setting. Not sure if the one I received is defective, but it doubt it. Also, the gain range was not impressive and the other EQ knobs (treble, bass, mid & presence) did not affect the tone as I much I would expect. Considering most retailers are trying to get $900 (the price of Dr Z amp head), if I could give this a negative rating on sound quality I would give a negative 50. Too bad 1 is the lowest I could give it. I hate to say it, but a $150-$165 Fulltone OCD or Full-Drive sound way better (IMHO), regardless of the price difference.

My gear includes: Fender Custom Shop Strat, EJ Strat, Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus, Gibson SG Standard, PRS Custom 22, and PRS Custom 24. I use a Fender Twin Reverb RI, and a bunch of effects: Boss RV-3, Malekko Echo 600 Dark, TS808-Keeley Mod Plus, Analogman Bi-Chorus, Metal Muff, Analogman Peppermint Fuzz, Maxon PH-350, RMC Wizard Wah and countless others in boxes.

Reliability : No Opinion
It seemed solid (for the short period of time I had it). However, I would bet that the mechanism that spins the knobs would probably break after a while. I would never gig with this, it it is too fragile.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them. I would assume customer support would be bad if you need work done on it since they are located in Denmark (language and distance barriers).

Overall Rating : 1
I checked out a demo at Proguitarshop.com and the Spin Doctor sounded and seemed really good. I know the spinning knobs are a gimmick, but being a pedal geek it is really cool. However most places sell this thing for $900.00 and I found it new for 599.50 (with free returns) so I thought I would try it out. I cannot believe how much this thing costs, for how terrible it sounds! Even if this effect was $100 I would not have kept it. It sounded terrible and was way too trebly and bright on any setting. I don???t think it was my set-up because I have not had any other overdrive or other pedals that sound good and nowhere near as trebly, but the Spin Doctor was too tingy on my setup. An EH Enlish Muff'n is bright on my amp, but it sounds better than the Spin Doctor and only costs $189 compared to $900/600.

Also, the power supply that was included did NOT include the cable that connects the AC adaptor to the wall. I had to use the power cable from computer with the AC adaptor to use it! Can you believe they charge this much for the effect and do not include the $12 cable (from Best Buy) to power this thing?!?

Another annoying thing - there is a slight delay when you are switching between the 4 presets. This would be really annoying if playing live.

It almost goes without saying - like any guitar effect, amp and guitar, don???t buy it unless you can return it for free and do you can try it out on your own gear.
