It's easy to get great sounds from this pedal; it's very well laid out.

Sound Quality : 10
I had an original 80's one, and sold it many years ago. I always regretted selling it, so I was psyched to find this reissue used.

I don't have the original, so I couldn't do a side by side comparison, but this sounds exactly as I remember the my original.

The boost compares favorably to the other boutique boost pedals i've owned including the Fat Boost 1, Bad Bob Booster, Greer Royal Fromage, and Keeley Katana, and a couple others I can't remember. I perfer the boost in the TCE over any of them. It can do a clean boost, with absolutely no tonal coloration to my clean tone. I have a LP and a Marshall JCM800, and an 18 watter handwired, and it pushes them into natural overdrive perfectly. It does an incredible treble boost that works great with the 18 watter. If you kick up the bass knob, you get a great fat boost.

The distortion can get that just breaking up sound into a clean amp, with the distortion knob set at 9 o'clock and below. It has less fizz than anything I've owned, and I've owned too many boutique drive pedals. Set the distortion at noon - 2 o'clock, and you're very close to Physical-era Zepplin. From 3 o'clock to full out on the distortion knob, you're in lead territory, with Santana and E.J. sustain, and punch.

I've owned too many boutique drive pedals that are voiced weird, and change my basic tone too much. The TCE does not have the strange midrange voicing that many other pedals I've tried suffer from. It's very smooth, but not too polite, it cuts through a 4-piece band mix beautifully.

Reliability : No Opinion
I had my original for years, and it never failed me. I've only owned the reissue about 6 months, so time will tell. It seems like it's built like a tank.

Never used CS.

This pedal booted an OCD and a Katana off my small pedalboard. I haven't bought a drive, or boost pedal in 6 months, so I'm in recovery. These aren't cheap, but you do get two very great pedals in one small box.

well.
You plug your guitar in to the box.
Start with Drive, Gain, Bass and Treble at 12'o clock.
And there it is.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Strat with the EMG DG-20 pick-up set, and a PRS Santana SE with Duncan SH-2/SH-4. And it just sounds great.
If I try to do a bit of Gilmour things or playing Journey, the pedal produces just the drive I need.

Reliability : 10
The only thing that I didn't like, was the lack of adapter included. It eats batteries. No mailfunction so far.

Customer Support : 10
No contact with TC support on this product. But when I used the G-Major I sent som mails. They replied quick and understandable.

Overall Rating : 10
I chose this one over the Keely modified Tube Screamer, and I don't regret that. Not at all.
when the Keely sounds a bit like an angry bee, this one sounds like a drive pedal..

Really easy to get the good sound of it. This unit is the reissue of the 'Holy Grail' Booster+Line Driver and Distortion, with the same functions. A switch to change between the distortion and the booster.
Tone controls for bass and treble, an output level and a potentiometer to change the amount of the distortion.
The only thing i dont like is the pilot-light wich is too bright to check the amounts in a dark stage situation. In addition to this you can change the threshold of the noise gate.

Sound Quality : 10
I use it with the clear channel of my Mesa's (Studio 22+, F-50) as a distortion. The sound is the most transparent overdrive i ever heard.
To compare with the TC VPD1 this unit is even closer to the sound of the Tube Screamer but without any compressing on the original guitar sound. The VPD1 is a bit more Marshall like drive than the Booster+Distortion. It is not noisy at all so you dont have to use the noise gate exept if the other units in your setup are noisy.
I was tring out the boost function wich is also does a great job.

Reliability : No Opinion
I just have it for a few days...but i won't hesitate to use in my next gig without a backup.

For years i have just good impressions with the support of the factory.

I playing mostly jazz with East European folk elements, sometime i play standards as well. I playing for 18 years. I was looking for 'THE' overdrive for like two years, i tried out a bunch of a good cheapos like Fulltone Fulldrive2, Fulldrive2 Mosfet, OCD, Ibanez Ts-9 (original), Rat, Rat2, Tc VPD1 and a few more. I always felt that the sound is not perfect. Whit this unit i can have a great drive sound without make a compromise in my original guitar tone. I definitely would buy it again.
